The figure that you are looking at seems quite at ease in any surroundings. His outlook appears to be one of quiet confidence. He is a bit on the short side, and he has the appearance of a human male in the prime of his life. He has a neat and clean-shaved face that makes him appear younger than he likely actually is. He seems taut like a spring, ready to bolt at a moment's notice. His eyes are blue and he has a head full of silver curls. He seems to carry himself with confidence, and looks as though he would handle difficult situations calmly. He is soft spoken when he speaks. Though the pattern of speech speaks to a sense of danger rather than meekness. He appears lean and muscular, body toned from years of martial training.

Surviving the Demons, The New World

A post apocalyptic setting, surreal and gray. There are pockets of humans
that form a resistance in what used to be large cities. Most of the world's
population has been eradicated.This world is the result of irresponsible
summoning via trans-dimensional magics. It isn't the only world like this in
existence, but it is the one where Hirleu was born.

Yet here we are in Thera. No demons fight for hierarchy and domination. No
chaotic magics roam wildly to devour and absorb any life they encounter. In
most protected cities you can even walk out in the open, merrily enjoying
conversation with those you encounter. These concepts are completely unknown
to Hirleu who's young life was spent in hiding, fighting, and watching his
loved ones get ripped to pieces by evil monstrous creatures. A true living
nightmare.

Though here he is awake. New to Thera. Randomly dumped out by a dimensional
portal. It was a last resort. The monsters were pouring in and his group was
overwhelmed. He had seen people disappear in portals before. He knew they
were never seen again. It was either risk the jump or die. He had a love he
had been protecting, Mira. She jumped in right behind him as he knew she
would, though she had taken grievous wounds in the process. After the stars
and light faded he realized he had arrived in the catacombs of a temple. He
searched the catacombs for his partner for days until starvation got the
better of him. He wandered out through a murky slime he had seen demons using
for transportation while he stealthily skulked about. He wasn't expecting the
submersion into water, but he knew how to swim and it turned out he could
breathe in the water safely anyway.

Miraculously he already spoke the native language. He found his way to a
large city after a nerve wracking and sleepless night of traveling and
avoiding the locals. The city guard eyeballed him warily and urged him to
keep it moving when he paused at a fountain. He made his way to the docks,
hoping to find a map of the world and knowing he needed to figure out where
he was. It was there he saw a figure hidden away guarding a door. Upon his
approach he was measured with a steady eye, then allowed entrance. He told
his tale to Kavan Lassion, the Assassin Guildmaster of Voralian City. Kavan
proved to be an invaluable source of wisdom and local knowledge who
encouraged him to utilize the Academy of Thera located at the Temple of the
Light in the city. Hirleu followed the directions and entered the Academy to
learn of Theran Lore and History. A new life, a second chance.

Growth, Knowledge

Hirleu is learning and growing. He has been furiously studying maps and
attempting to orient himself with Theran geography. He has discovered that
this world is very similar to his own, except unspoiled. He has attempted to
find Mira using all the tricks at his disposal including Kavan's network of
spies. Wherever the unstable portal took him, he believes it took her
elsewhere.


He is learning what he can to better fight. His heart is still pure and he
still has a desire to survive, and to help others do the same. He gets angry
when he sees mages recklessly and carelessly throwing their spells and
altering this world. From his discussions he knows such actions are the
beginning of the end for Thera, as he has personally experienced the end
result of such foolishness. He wishes to save Thera from these individuals.

He continues to grow and to learn, he continues to search out Mira. He wishes
this world to remain pure and unspoiled and he will do what he can to keep it
that way.

Journal Entry: I

Kavan has said that I should be journaling my thoughts and ideas, that the
words may grant me wisdom or future insights.

Thera is a good place. I am very lucky and fortunate to have ended up here.
There are so many worse planes and worlds that I've discovered in my
research. Others take it for granted. They do not realize how good they have
it. Plentiful food, places of protection, clean water. Extended families,
friends. Professions. Peace if they choose it. Guilds, Arenas, sport in
general. None of these things were available to me in my childhood. All I had
was fear and flight. At that young an age to stand up and fight meant to die
an early death. The goal was simple, survive.

Yet in Thera it is different. Here I've become the hunter not the hunted. My
prey is all around me, mages. Wizards, witches, warlocks, call them what you
will. Thera has another prominent feature of protection. A veil surrounding
it that, when strong, blocks the magic of the Gods from being stolen by the
mortals that choose to do so and, when weak, rips wide open and mana pours in
to all who would use it. This is when Thera is most susceptible to complete
annihilation.

They do not understand what they do. They have not come from a world where
the consequences of convenience and irresponsible 'innocence' of witchcraft
has led to the deaths of millions. An entire world shattered by the simple
choice to embrace magic and utilize it to summon otherworldly creatures bent
on nothing but destruction.

The Conjurers, Necromancers, and anti-paladins are the worst. They are the
ones that do tap into other planes and places. Any time these pathways are
open, we are at risk for invasion and destruction. All it takes is the wrong
door to open.

All other mages weaken the veil of protection around us through their very
existence and with every use of magic.

Yet my nature is one of peace, I am a good person I think. My hands still
shake every time I strike a killing blow with my knife against a mage.
Sorrow, occasional regret. I do not like what it is I do, but with each
thrust of my blade I am saving the world. And so I will be the best at it I
can be. That is how it has to be.

Journal Entry: I (continued)

I have heard of a guide for people like me. Hunters, bent on the destruction
of the evils of the world. Her name is Baerinika, and she was an elf. A
warrior of her people who I have learned inspired even the gods in her feats
of Battle and ascended to immortality to guide those like her. I have found
her ruins, and I have prayed. I sense her presence there. Her wisdom is all
around and it is obvious she is well loved by those that follow her through
conversations I've had in that place while praying as well as reading various
tomes available there. I have purposefully avoided killing mages of the
Light, much to the dismay of the Commander of Battle who gave me my hut. He
says that destroying all mages is on the Tablet, an unbreakable commandment
not open for debate or discussion. Yet I feel if they have kind and innocent
hearts, they are simply ignorant and need education. They do not have ill
intent, they do not seek destruction of the world, their actions are done for
the purpose of caring and protecting others. Yet the toddler who finds his
mothers knife and chases other children with it deserves punishment all the
same. But you do not kill the child, you simply take his knife. As such I
focus on thickening the veil as much as possible. This is how I deal with
mages of the Light. Take away their knife, remove their ability to cast
spells. Thicken the veil to prevent magic from entering the world.

This has gotten long winded. I suppose I had a lot to say. Kavan was right, I
feel more relieved. Yet I still push forward blindly in my quest. I second
guess myself and my choices. Perhaps I will have my guide eventually, but for
now I do the best I can to do good.

Journal Entry: II

So much has happened since I last wrote.

Foremost of these things is that the Goddess of the Ruins not only came to me
during my prayer and meditation, she offered bits of wisdom and guidance that
was sorely needed. We discussed the Village and my place in it, we discussed
the tablet and that the tablet itself is not as cut and dry as one might
think (even further evidence by the fact that it has been changed recently to
allow Villagers who so choose to use magical portals
considering most consider the words Boltthrower carved when he sought to
inspire the first Villagers both sacred and law steeped with tradition and
heritage..now subject to change). We discussed that though I may fight for
purity of the world and the light I cannot enforce others to be pure of
heart. This was evidenced by the fact that a supposed Lightwalker, Totania,
informed me she was a member of the Nexus Island before attacking the Village
while we had the Key. As it would turn out, after she fell in battle
repeatedly, she was an unaffiliated Lightwalker out to mar my spirit.

Discussions with the Drillmaster yielded the notion that the Lords of Battle
had discussed my morality with him as a concern, yet when speaking to the
Jaguar Goddess she said she felt the Drillmaster had miscommunication what
was said and that the fact that I traveled with others who use magic on their
person was an issue to the others. We discussed this, and just as a family
member would not turn their back on a drunk, I do not feel it right to turn
my back on someone who chooses to weaken themselves. I can educate, and I can
attempt to stop the behavior with words, but it is not something I'm willing
to kill or completely shun a brother or sister over. I will continue to warn
them of the long term impacts of utilizing magical clothing as a crutch,
specifically the dangers magic itself present to the veil that protects us
and to their own personal strength.

And now there is much training to continue, the Empire and the Nexuns grow.
Our fate is not written yet, but things seem dire for this world.
