Description
A patchwork of armors wrapped in cloth of natural shades such as brown
and green cover this sinewy man from head to foot. The armors appear to
offer protection but also allow for maximum mobility. Tanned skin
accentuates the very handsome features of his angular, young, elven face.
He has eyes so blue they nearly seem iridescent and sun bleached, brown
shoulder length hair which is wild and unkempt except for the few places
it is tied back with small pieces of leather to keep it out of his face.
His frame is sinewy, and this wood-elf male is young, but, he still
appears possessed of a measure of strength and all the agility his race
race is renowned for.

The Debt I

Hoyoharannas couldnt believe what he had just heard and judging all the murmurs of astonishment
from the wood-elves gathered around him, he could tell they couldnt either. Never before could he
remember hearing of such a steep pronouncement.
Her crimes are great and the debt must be paid, announced the Nsala, wise woman seer of the wood-
elf village, and you have taken her debt on yourself so that it will be repaid, as is right, as is our way.
Hoyoharannas frowned deeply. He had already sworn the oath to repay her debt, as was the custom
with his people, the Nsa Nsa, a nature loving clan of wood-elves who lived remotely in the forests and
mountains east of Udgaard. The assumption of a debt of another was actually quite rare among the Nsa
Nsa as most of the clan members adhered to its traditions and beliefs. However, when it was
performed, the oath to repay the debt was always done before the oath-taker knew how severe the
debt was. It had to be this way as it was the selfless nature of the act of repaying someone elses debt
that mattered, not the size of the debt.
And now he had to repay her debt and that debt was the highest hed ever known, and that her was his
twin sister.
The Debt II

The crime of his sister, Hollyharanas, had been to leave the clan and become a sorceress. Despite this,
the Nsa Nsa do not hate magic. On the contrary, they revere it. Magic is so sacred to them that it is
absolutely forbidden for mortals to use, and Hollyharanas had apparently used quite a bit of it.
The Nsa Nsa, who prize Thera and its natural well-being, see magic as its life blood. To them, it is the
invisible force behind everything that nourished and fed the planet. The Veil is the barrier or the skin
that keeps magic with Thera. A strong veil means more magic and a healthier earth. When mortals use
magic, it thins the Veil allowing more of the earths essence to leak out, thereby weakening the earth
and so therefor magic is forbidden. Finally, to the Nsa Nsa the divine beings are as much a part of Thera
as Thera is itself, and themselves beyond the Veil. Magic is as much theirs as it is Theras.
Hoyoharannas loved his sister very much. When it was learned that she had taken up sorcery upon her
departure from the Nsa Nsa it troubled him deeply. He and several others left to track her down and
begged her to give up the practice but she refused them outright. She cared far more about the personal
good magic could do for her than any greater good not using it did.
When a member of the Nsa Nsa uses magic and harms Thera they feel they owe her a debt which will
heal the harm done. Generally, this happens by mistake where a small magic is accidently activated and
the debt to heal this wrong is small in return. Often times, the debt is a pilgrimage to Tahrens forge to
destroy a small, magical item and the same person who committed the offense repays the debt.
However, there are the rare times, as with Hollyharannas, where the magic used is vast and the offender
refuses to repay their own debt. In times like these it is not only necessary but tradition that someone
else make the sacrifice and repay the debt.
The Debt III

After returning to the village Hoyoharannas determined out of his love for his twin sister that he would
take her debt upon himself. And so he made his pledge and the ritual was performed. The Nsala divined
the cost of the debt through a divine vision granted to her. And the debt was fifty dead sorcerers.
Fifty sorcerers!! Fifty DEAD sorcerers! Hoyoharannas was striken with shock over the seemingly
impossible task set to him. Surely, he would never be able to repay such a vast debt. He hadnt the skill
to defeat so many wizards. He worked as a scout for the Nsa Nsa often and had a basic warriors
training but was nowhere near the skill needed to kill fifty wizards! Unfortunately, it was too late. Out of
love for his sister he had made his oath and now he had to repay that debt or die trying. Most likely he
would die trying.
Hoyoharannas wasnt going to forfeit his life as repayment for the debt without giving it the best try he
could. There was no time limit on when he had to accomplish the debt and so he would leave the Nsa
Nsa and find those who could train him best for such a task. He would go join the warriors guild and
then, hopefully, the Village of the Battleragers.
Hoyoharannas is aligned with the sphere of healing as he, like his clan, views his debt repayment and
other acts against magic as healing and beneficent toward Thera.
The Sister Problem
Added Wed Jul 23 19:56:35 2014 at level 25:
Hoyoharannas has made his way into the Village. The Commander agreed to take him in and he will
learn to kill mages from the best in the land to satisfy his debt. What he didnt expect from the Villagers
was the interest they took in his sister.
The first two villagers he spoke to, Torgun and Korhdazor, both immediately wanted to know why he
hadnt slain his sister. Hoyoharannas was appalled by the idea. He loved his twin sister, despite what she
was. He had sworn to kill any other mage in Thera except her, however, that wasnt good enough for
those two. They demanded more. Torgrun went so far as to refuse to talk to him any further, saying he
was too weak to be in the Village for not wanting to slay his beloved twin sister. He at first assumed it
was because the two were of wicked races, fire giant and drow, respectively. It must be how things were
done with those races. Family did not matter to them, only ones person goals and desires did. However,
after coming to speak to the Commander Erighan he found that there may be more than racial
background at work here.
Commander Erighan did not demand of Hoyoharannas that he slay his sister. They did, however, talk at
length on the subject and the Commander raised some points that Hoyoharannas hadnt considered
before. Erighan argued that with so many years of magic use, Hollyharannas, was unlikely the same
person she had been when Hoyoharannas knew her as a child. She likely had been perverted by the
magics use and the person he once knew was gone. It was a valid point, Hoyoharannas knew. Whats
more, he realized, is that if she keeps practicing magic, the debt he is trying to repay will only grow, and
likely at a faster pace than he can keep up with. Still, he had no desire to hunt her down. Not yet, at
least. Despite this stubborn position born out of love, the conflict over his sister was beginning to grow
strong inside of him and when they were finished Commander Erighan simply told him that when the
time came he expected him to make the right choice.
Meeting the Lady Rayihn
Added Tue Jul 29 10:42:28 2014 at level 31:
Hoyoharannas has found some irony in the fact that the villager who refused to back him for entrance
into the Village because of his weakness for refusing to kill his sister has taken his own life after falling
to an enemy. Perhaps it just proves the old adage it takes one to know one.
Hoyoharannas has met with the Lady Rayihn for the first time. He has received her blessing in being a
follower and after the meeting felt it was the right place for him. He can see that there is much about
the faith that he has yet to learn about but felt welcome pursuing his current path as Battlerager healing
the Veil out of his love for his twin sister Holly as a follower of hers. He also had the opportunity to get
to know better the retired Commander and now Elder, Crraya, who is handmaiden to Rayihn.
During the meeting Crraya and the Lady tasked him to follow a tendril of the Ladys hair to see where it
lands and what love is there. Now, following a tendril of hair on the breeze is no literal easy task, and so
Hoyo assumed that he is to pay more attention to where he sees love about him. In a world full of war,
most especially the Village, this can be a challenge. This prompted Hoyo to thinking about places where
there is the absence of love and its significance. Is it similar to heat and cold? Is hatred simply the
absence of love or is it something altogether different? Can one love to hate, such as a battlerager and
his hatred for magic? All these are points Hoyo will ponder all the while looking forward to discussing
them in his next meeting with the Lady.
Complicated Notions
Added Wed Aug 13 14:35:51 2014 at level 44:
Hoyoharannas has had much to think about since becoming a follower of Rayihn. She has offered him
much useful advice and has been instructing him on the tenets of the religion. One particular aspect that
has occupied his thoughts is that not everyone deserves to be loved or healed. How did this relate to his
sister? Was she deserving of his love? If she wasnt, where did that put him regards to his current
position?
It was a complicated line of thought, with many possible ramifications. He still believed in the teachings
of his people and that whether he was doing this for Holly or not, he was still doing something useful by
healing the Veil. There was also the fact that he gave his word to repay this debt. Once he made that
oath, it became as much about him as it did her. He didnt think he could walk away from that promise.
Still, where did all this leave him with his sister? Should he try to find her to see if she is still deserving of
his love? Perhaps she has come to her senses and given up magic use. Certainly then she would be
appreciative of the burden he is carrying for her and then possibly still deserving of his love. But what if
she hadnt? What if she was still stuck in her selfish ways and uncaring to what he has done for her? In
that case, she wouldnt be deserving of his love and to make matter worse he wasnt sure if he could
just leave it at that. Any other Villager would say he had a duty to do more. He would be obligated to kill
her. Just as his oath to repay her debt has him duty-bound to see it to the end, so his commitment to
the Village may have him bound by duty to end her life and prevent her from harming the Veil further. It
was a complicated situation.
Rayihn also challenged Hoyo to heal someone. This would be a large task indeed. While some might
assume that with his affinity toward the sphere of healing, Hoyo might have chosen to be a defender
and learn how to physically heal others. Hoyo, however, is concerned about healing the Veil and chose
to be a scout to better be able to discern the well-being of the Veil. Healing someone would be far more
challenging for him since he did not possess the ability to physically heal. Instead, he suspected he
would have to find a way to emotionally or spiritually heal someone, a far trickier endeavor.
