Description
You see before you a strong man, who looks to be a veteran of many campaigns.
His body stretches to over six feet in length. His blonde hair is thick and
long. It is not well kept, but not wholly ignored either. It falls about
his face, obscuring the edges of what appear to be strong and rugged
features. On the left side, there are three loosely knotted braids, each
with pieces of jewels in them. His emerald eyes hold an aged determination
in them, and compliment the jewels in his hair. His skin is darkened by the
sun and many years of blood, sweat and mud. You also notice a slight
greenish hue to the skin on the right side of his neck. What appears to be a
four fingered scar on the left side of his face disappears under a thick
blond and red beard. Two braids are visible in the front of the beard, and
are tied together near the bottom. He is a handsome man, and perhaps with
grooming would be uncommonly so. His body is large, tempered from many years
of warfare. There does not appear to be any softness in him, his arms and
legs invoking comparisons of stout oak trees, and his chest heavy and
rock-like. His armor, though mismatched, is well cared for.

In the time before time, when magic still blessed our lands, life was good.
The gods smiled upon us, and we prospered. And then He came and left. He
returned from the Void, and took magic with Him. It was during these dark
times that our people came to know War. No longer did the priests use magic
to protect us. For many generations we were held under by the other tribes.
Then the Bear returned from the Southlands. He made us remember what it was
to fight, what we were like before magic. He taught us of its weakness. So
it was that we once again grew strong. The Crow also came to our lands, and
told us of the deceitful nature of the Dragon. Magic never returned to us,
but we learned War, and then, our enemies knew defeat. So it was that the
House of Halvard came to rule over the Northlands.

"Horskr, why must we leave for the Southlands? Where is my father? Where
are the other warriors? What happened to the Bjarndyrborg? Why don't we
bring the dogs with us? What happened to the horses? How did you hurt your
leg?" The boy never ceased asking questions. Three days they had traveled
south, towards the great sea that separated the rugged Northlands from the
Southlands, who many call Thera. He didn't have the heart to tell the boy,
that their people were dead. That the boy was the last king of the Northmen.
The great and impregnable fortress of Bjarndyrborg had been overrun. The
entire royal family was dead, and their army scattered. Hroskr was the
personal tutor of the young boy, who was called Hraustr, because he was quite
brave. He had caused his mother no shortage of consternation, with his
adventurous ways.
They traveled on, for ten more days, with Hruastr endlessly questioning, and
Horskr mostly lost in deep thought. Eventually, they came to the southern
coast. It was their they were able to barter for passage upon a trader ship
bound for the Southlands. The journey was long, and the young boy had
troubles, this being his first voyage on the rough and windtorn northern
seas. But by and by they came to the Southlands, and after traveling over
many mountains they came at last to civilization, and the great city of
Udgaard. Hroskr told the boy that these people were their distant relations,
that in the time before time, the man whom the city was named after had been
a Northman. That he came here and founded this great city. Hraustr does not
see many people similair to his race however, the streets being populated
with a race of ugly giants.

In Udgaard, Hroskr was able to secure them lodgings. He converted a third
room into a training room, and began to teach the boy. He taught him far
less about what it meant to be noble, and how to conduct himself in such
situations. He did teach him of his heritage, and told him never to hide
from it. To be proud of who and what he was, and where he came from. He
taught him mostly of War. He taught him the story of the Dragon's betrayal.
He instructed him in tactics, and techniques. He pushed the young boy, and
forced him to grow up early. Such had to be the way of an exiled king. He
could not teach him the intricacies of personal battle, but their was an
Academy for those who could afford it here in the Southlands. They would
teach him much more. The boy would be well taken care of. There was also a
rumor that the Dragon, Twist as he was called in these lands, walked among
mortals from time to time, and that he was the head of an order. Perhaps
this boy's destiny was to revenge his people upon this betrayer. Time and
War would determine his destiny.
The night before Hraustr was sent to the Academy, his tutor finally laid
upon him the burden of his name, and his ancestors. Horskr would be here to
guide him, would remain in Udgaard, but the boy was truly alone now. He
must go forth and take revenge for his people, restore their lost honor.
The War of Northmen must be brought to the Southlands. There were rumors of
a mighty band of warriors who opposed the demon called Twist. Perhaps they
could offer guidance and aid in Hraustr's quest. So it was, Hraustr
Halvard, the Last King of the Northmen entered the Academy, and the War
against Magic.
