Description

You gaze upon the most charismatic fire giant you have ever seen. Dusky-grey skin that once had a shabby quality now seems the perfect skin tone to offset the reddish-orange hair that is long but kept very neatly in a ponytail that reaches down to the middle of his back. His eyes seem somewhat glazed as if lost in deep thought. Wide cheekbones surround a perfectly sized and placed nose. As for the rest of his physical appearance, the word would be imposing. Rippling muscles protrude impressively, huge yet still very aesthetically pleasing. Though short for his race at just over 8 feet tall, the short stature actually makes this creature more handsome, giving him a "compact" and powerful appearance. As you examine more closely, you notice wrinkles in the skin of this giant, perhaps a small hint at a losing battle with age. The wrinkles tend to simply make him appear more distinguished and appealing (for a giant), however. Looking closer at what he is wearing, you notice:

Role

Oaths, Weakness, and Explanations

Added Thu Jun 21 23:19:39 2007 at level 51:
Many times, Hunsobo receives criticism from powerful enemies, that he allows weakness
to fester in the Imperial ranks. He wonders, at times, if the Dark Lords disapprove as
well. The problem, as Hunsobo sees it, is that every single Imperial is weaker than he
is...only to varying degrees. If he began casting any weakness out of the Empire, he
would likely be left with the Shadow Lord, War Master, High Priest, and one or two Elite
Blades and Divines. A good core group, to be sure, but every Army needs its fodder.

Hunsobo attempts to prune the absolute weakest, on occasion, to set an example. At
times it works. Regarding the Blood Oath...Hunsobo has always believed that all
citizens of Thera should be allowed to swear their heart, soul, and life to the Empire.
He is incredibly confused when someone "interviews" a potential Oath.
Why should they be grilled at all? They wish to bind themselves to service, as all
Therans should. Such things as spies and potential traitors do not factor in.

And so, you have an Emperor who has administered the Oath dozens of times, possibly
more. And truly believes that every single Theran will eventually swear the Oath.

Recent events.

Added Thu Jun 21 23:00:20 2007 at level 51:
Where to start? Lord Khasotholas granted Hunsobo an audience where many things
were discussed. The lack of demotions by any council members was somewhat...
appalling. The permission to seek an agreement with the Village was a definite
plus. Hunsobo was very glad of the talk - he was certain that his inactivity after
assuming the Throne was being frowned upon, and yet until the audience, he had been
unsure of how much power he truly had.

The beginnings of an agreement with the Village have begun - so far an agreement to
not take each other's items of Power - perhaps more to come.

Emperor for a Day

Added Mon Jun 11 21:59:04 2007 at level 51:
Hunsobo strongly desired the Throne, but was not nearly as sure as those around him
seemed to be that it would be his. The High Priest Waserax was both deserving, and
at the same time cunning. Cunning enough to stage an 'upset victory' and claim the
Throne for himself.
In the end, though, the massive mound of malapropisms won out. He attempts to grow
comfortable with the title. He still tends to think of himself as War Master - planning
strategy for long and short term wars. But now he has other matters to worry about -
the nearly-defunct Black Sect needs rebuilding. His own donations are scraping the bottom
of the barrel, due to massive outpourings of currency on magical enhancements - pills, potions,
and such.
True to himself, however, he still views himself as a Soldier of the Empire. The head
Soldier, no doubt, but still a Soldier.

Senility comes to us all.

Added Thu Jun 14 22:11:51 2007 at level 51:
Hunsobo went to visit his Father, to inform him of his ascension to the Throne.
He did not receive the acclaim and congratulations that he expected. Rather,
his Father, having grown ancient and senile to the extreme, assumed that
his whelp of a son was playing a poor prank. He attacked Hunsobo, and, like
most giants, though his mind was gone, his strength was not. Hunsobo attempted
to subdue the ancient giant, but soon realized there would be no quarter. He ended
his Father as swiftly as his mithril swords cut through dark-elf butter.

There will be no funeral.

Words we don't understand...

Added Sun Oct 29 20:37:23 2006 at level 31:
Hunsobo is often asked by various individuals to recite some
form of statement. The blood oath, sect questions, and so on.
Imbessar even had him running around emerald forest like a fool
yelling various things. Hunsobo does not completely grasp the
meaning of each of these things, as they are not spoken the way
he would speak them. He has, instead, methodically (and painstakingly)
mouthed the words until his answer satisfies.

War Masters and Anathema

Added Fri Nov 17 23:23:26 2006 at level 45:
Qileor was selected by Draktel above Hunsobo for the War Master position.
Hunsobo was not surprised. He was not pleased, but Qileor had more standing
in the guild and in the Emperor's eyes, and he knew it would happen.
While Hunsobo believes he is the best choice to lead the Blade, his loyalty
the the Empire is unwavering, and he sees himself as a soldier who does what
he is told.

Recent events unfolded in which Hunsobo gave his life for the Emperor's, as
commanded. Meanwhile Kargthak, who had received the same order, quaffed a
potion of return, and escaped. The Emperor, later that same night, made
Kargthak an Elite Blade, the same rank as Hunsobo. Hunsobo was dismayed. It
It seemed his dedication and loyalty were for nothing?

The next time Hunsobo saw Kargthak, he was Anathema. If this did not weaken
the Empire in the short term, Hunsobo would have grinned maliciously. However,
undisciplined and arrogant as Kargthak was, he was also strong, and could
have at least been a good footsoldier, if he had not been at odds with the
War Master at all times.

Rituals and Duty

Added Sat Dec 2 00:59:43 2006 at level 48:
As slow as he is, Hunsobo exists purely on routine, and duty. He is orderly
as a necessity, for within chaos he would be lost and very likely die. He
defends the Palace despite feeling no need to slay a foe who he has just
slain. Duty. He proclaims the same greeting and farewells, praising
"Father Anger", purely due to Emperor Draktel's teachings. They are a
mantra to him, these words, and make him feel safe even with multitudes
of enemies knocking at his door.

Infernal Questions

Added Mon Dec 4 22:01:15 2006 at level 49:
War Master
Hunsobo traveled through the River Styx (ran for his life, really) while the War
Master awoke, spoke a few words, and then slept just as quickly. Secretly hoping
that Qileor had just slept "forever", Hunsobo heard the Dread Lady Kharghurln
echo his thoughts over the Imperial Channel.

The leadership of the Blade Sect was within his grasp. Now...did he dare claim it?

In the shorter term, Hunsobo tried frantically to get the boatman Phlegyas to take him
across the River Styx into Dis. This time the question was "what to say or do to him??"

Hell, truly, and yet pleasing

Added Sun Dec 10 23:49:03 2006 at level 51:
level power, who has gauntlets that one of the party wants. Tapping his massive
foot impatiently. Yet content, as he savors the new power that the Emperor has
bestowed. Hunsobo is War Master. He may not be for long, with Blades seeking to
challenge him, but for now, the title is his alone. As is deserved.
(added during a Hell trip, re-added later due to a crash)

Retaining the War Master position

Added Mon Dec 11 23:32:33 2006 at level 51:
It was an ugly bashfest during which Vezrith couldn't move. He/she was hard
to hit, but would stand still just often enough. More than just combat, Emperor
Draktel asked questions about tactics and strategy. Hunsobo retained his position.

Emperor?

Added Thu Jan 4 23:45:13 2007 at level 51:
Hunsobo wants to be Emperor, but is not stupid. He realizes that someone
with as much respect and tenure as Kharghurln will not be defeated in a
vote. He also knows that Rodalrina, the High Priestess, is basically in
Kharghurln's massive back pocket. So, in a stunning display of "stragety"
He encourages the other councilmembers (in a note that also is sent
to Kharghurln) to vote for the Dread Lady. Hunsobo intends to secure
his position as War Master and not be demoted when the new Empress is coronated.

In addition, the bottom line is that Kharghurln is a fire giant, strong, and
respected even by Hunsobo. And even as Emperor, Hunsobo will ever be the dutiful
Soldier of Empire.

Ehren Soul? Seriously?

Added Sat Jan 27 21:02:39 2007 at level 51:
While Hunsobo doesn't believe himself to be a man of Honor (Honor can, at times, get
in the way of Duty), he did select the Edge known as Ehren Soul. He did this more as
a tactical move than a belief - most frequently he is outnumbered by his enemies in
very large amounts. As I add this entry, Hunsobo has 5 members of the Fortress looking
for him, as the only Imperial around. This is, sadly, commonplace, and so the Edge will
likely prove to be more beneficial than harmful.

Too nice for a War Master

Added Sat Jan 27 21:10:31 2007 at level 51:
Hunsobo is often concerned that people will view him as "too nice" for the War Master
position. He is quick to promote Oaths to Sheathed Blade status, and the same
for Sheathed to full Blade. He does, however, require them to pay him back the
gold he has lost in his donations pool. He also does not promote those he sees
as fools.
In addition, he is free with gear that he does not need, setting up his Blades
with various trinkets. None of this is done casually or lightly, however. Should
he fall in battle, he fully expects each item to be returned from the Blade, if
he needs it. His easy-to-promote style is geared toward making the Blade Sect
a true army, and that army will follow Him.

Praise Iunnalady!

Added Thu Feb 8 21:22:17 2007 at level 51:
Hunsobo met with Iunnalady recently and she taught him a new trick of the mind.
Centering his thoughts on the Indomitable Imperial Palace (Hunsobo thought Iunna
was calling the Imperial Palace an abomination. Confusion ensued for a moment.),
she told him to concentrate on how looking at such a powerful and steadfast object
made him feel. "Yuh good SMASH!" he answered. She then directed him to let the
image fade from his mind but continue to have the feeling. He had learned about
the Fortress of the Spirit.

Growing Numbers, maybe?

Added Sat Feb 24 20:57:12 2007 at level 51:
With the death of his (most recent) arch-foe, Enarn, Hunsobo walks a bit
more bold than he had been. While he had frequently been alone in the
Empire for long stretches of time, he now has 3 or 4 solid Blades beneath
him. He still faces long odds most times, but now feels as though survival
is not impossible.

Last Name

Added Sun Mar 25 20:27:50 2007 at level 51:
Things were really begining to stagnate for our big dumb giant friend, when
he received a message from his father. It read, quite simply: "Yuh. Yous come."
Knowing that this was a summons from his father, the Mighty War Master of
the Glorious Imperial Army scurried, yes scurried, off to answer the call.

Upon arriving, Hunsobo learned that he had finally earned a last name, in
the tradition of his family. His father asked what sort of last name Hunsobo
thought fitting. "SmashGood", "Iunnaladyguy", "MuchSmash" and so on were all
rejected. His father, though not much smarter than Hunsobo, was a bit more
wise in the ways of how the world looked at giant intellect, and realized that
Hunsobo would be mocked for such a name. Instead, he told Hunsobo that his
last name would be Oltog, which meant "Make much good smashin'" in the "Old
Fire Giant Tongue." You and I both know there is no Old Fire Giant Tongue...
hardly even a "new" fire giant tongue, but Hunsobo was overjoyed, and started
telling people of his last name immediately. Unfortunately he also seems bent
on explaining what it "means", as well.

Nexus and Battle

Added Fri May 18 22:33:16 2007 at level 51:
Hunsobo grows tired of the Nexuns. While the Fortress seemed powerful,
they seemed useful. Welcome, even. Perhaps even friends.
He's begun to despise them. As he grows more powerful, they seem to seek
only to pull him down.

Hunsobo has never been one to enjoy "smashin' rageguys". Now he'll be
even less likely to do so.

"Iunnalady"

Added Thu Dec 28 22:51:52 2006 at level 51:
Hunsobo set out to find the shrine of the patron goddess of War, Iunna.
He did eventually find it, and spoke with her at some length. After some
flashy swordplay, discussions about war, tactics, fire, and poetry, and
a fair amount of drinking, "Iunnalady" granted Hunsobo her tattoo.
Hunsobo has now added her to his list of people to praise over the Imperial
channel, and will (not too often, I promise) occasionally offer praise to
her for things that she really has no part in...such as him rubbing dirt
out of his eyes, or finding food somewhere. He knows that she had no part
in this but figures better safe than sorry when offering praise to his
god. dess.

Background information

Added Mon Oct 16 23:12:01 2006 at level 3:
Hunsobo is not smart. His intelligence is as high as you can get for a
standard fire giant, but that intelligence translates more into cunning
and combat tactics than your everyday smarts.
Hunsobo will, at times, use a phrase or word in the absolute wrong way.
This can have amusing consequences, such as the time he told his brother
about a dragon that was very impressive. The word Hunsobo *thought* he was
using was "aggressive" instead of "impressive." While he did tell the truth,
the dragon in question was not very amused to find Hunsobo's young brother
wandering in for a peek, and promptly ate him.

Born of a long line of Imperial Citizens, Hunsobo's parents were both common
laborers - building roads, constructing fortifications, and so forth.
When Hunsobo's knack for using the wrong speech (he told his foreman
that he was sure that the bridge was "steadfast", which Hunsobo
believed to mean "dangerously unstable." An entire Imperial Engineering unit was lost,
and Hunsobo was relegated to a more simple task of "smashing things." While smashing
a particularly large tree (attempting to use a hammer instead of an axe), he was
noticed by a passing Imperial Blade. The blade was moderately impressed at the
speed, savagery, and accuracy of the blows, as well as the weight of the weapon.
The Blade recommended Hunsobo to the guildmaster of warriors, and so Hunsobo,
continuing to do as he is told, adventures as a warrior, seeking to become an
Imperial Blade.
