Description

============================================================================= Standing around five and a half feet, this wobbling mound of flesh appears to be part amphibian. His white skin has a sheen of permanent moisture about it, probably mostly the sweat of exertion from having to around move his profound bulk, and has the mottled whiteness of a corpse in the first staged of rigor. His hair is lank and white, pasted around his face with greasiness. The face is swollen with obesity to the point where his violet eyes appear no more than slits. The nose is flat and sunken into the puffy cheeks, so that only the two dark spots of his nostrils are apparent. The mouth is drawn back into an almost permanent leer. The lips so thin to be almost unnoticeable, his tongue has a habit of flicking out moisten them, but only makes his appearance more toad-like. Two rings have been jammed on the forefingers of his chubby hands and his massive bulk is swaddled in black robes with various other mismatched armor and accouterments. Here and there you see the tip of a wand tucked in a belt, a pouch filled with something noxious, weirdly glowing glass vials and the odd embalmed body part. Even at this distance you can hear his labored, wheezing breath and smell the sickly sweet smell of decay. You are still trying to decide whether the smell is from what he carries or actually him that is decaying, when it finally dawns on you that he is actually a dark-elf!

Role

The Hunger Within

Added Wed Aug 20 09:13:26 2014 at level 6:
Hvrakleas had needs, cravings they might be called, deviant though they might
be to others, he fully intended to indulge them to the fullest. There was
something about the sweet taste of warm flesh that caused a flutter in the
lower part of his enormous belly, not just the flesh of beasts, but something
especially delicious about sentient flesh. Yes his over-indulgence in the
area of the gastronomic delights, and his profound distaste for the act of
vigorous physical exertion, had left him rather...... portly, but it was well
worth it in his, rather bulging eyes. Life was for the satiation of desires,
everything should be experienced to it's fullest, drained to the last drop.
Every draft of wine, every piece of succulent flesh, of every race, and
there, there was the problem which caused him so much trouble.

While the race of Dark-elves are known for their cold brutality, their
insidious politics and complete lack of conscience or anything remotely
resembling morality in their quest for power. There seemed to be quite the
stigma and abhorrence for the cannibalism of their own kind. Yes, many knew
Hvrakleas feasted on the flesh of slaves and other captives of Teth Azeleth
and for this, and his obvious non-conformity to the general standard of
physical perfection, he was shunned. It was not until the corpse of a
dark-elf was discovered in his larder, several of the more tender organs
removed, choice cuts of the rump and other delicate parts butchered, that
things got......difficult.

Discovered

Added Wed Aug 20 09:16:22 2014 at level 6:
The discovery of a dark-elf corpse was bad, most likely Hvrakleas would have
been flogged to an inch of his miserable life, and indentured into slavery
for the rest of his natural born days. The fact it was a female, just made
things worse and, when it was discovered she was a handmaiden no less, well
things looked bleak indeed. Hvrakleas was dragged from his cell on the last
day of his life, it took several house guards and a cave troll, but dragged
he was out to a dark corner of the Underdark. There he was to be tied to a
stake and the cavefishers and driders were to let him experience from the
other side, the sensation of feasting on flesh. What none knew, save
Hvrakleas himself, was that not only had he been experimenting with the taste
of flesh, but in the reanimation of it also. He was not the first to have met
their end in execution cave, and as the guards struggled to tie his flabby
arms behind his rotund girth, he took note of the piles of bones and remnants
of the undead. Fervently he prayed he would remember the spell, it was rather
advanced and he was not all that adept in the necromantic arts as yet. He
squeezed his closed and began to recite the spell over and over, his tongue
often tripping over the complex words, but in his self imposed blackness, the
screams began. Sweating profusely he continued to recite the spell, until all
his mental strength drained and an eerie silence fell over the cavern.

Escape

Added Wed Aug 20 09:18:58 2014 at level 6:
Hvrakleas could not tell how much time passed, but the pains in his belly
were intense, never had he gone so long without eating his fill. Was it days?
Weeks? Months? He only knew it felt like eternity, surely he would die of
hunger before any of the Underdark's more carnivorous denizens came to feast
on him. And there, only feet away lay all those freshly made corpses, rent
and torn by the remains he had called to life with his spell. He could smell
the sweet coppery tang of the blood, still fresh......wait? Still fresh? He
realized that the pangs in his belly had distorted his sense of time,
groaning he sags and his massive bulk causes the post to which he is tethered
to shift. Inspired by the possibility of escape he moves again, and again
until finally the post loosens and he rolls forward onto the cavern floor.
Some frantic work with the blade of one of his guards and his bonds are cut.
Free! Using the blade he butchers the sweeter cuts from his victims and fills
his empty belly. Then, taking one final look around the scene, he makes off
into the darker tunnels, there would be no returning to Teth Azeleth, so he
would make his way above to the over-world and perhaps continue his studies,
but, he thinks to himself, he would certainly return to the Underdark, if he
could discover more of these kinds of graveyards.......his mind spins off
into plots and plans of revenge.

Summary

Added Wed Aug 20 09:33:43 2014 at level 6:
Hvrakleas is fatter and clumsier that any drow, his massive bulk and
toad-like appearance have made him somewhat repulsive.

He is sphere gluttony and has heard tales of a certain Arial Deity called
Arvam who seems to share in the concept of excesses, although probably not
the subject of his, but he has decided that perhaps he will seek him out.

On coming to the over-world he has found that there are more races than he
previously had encountered below, and one in particular seemed to be touched
by beings of light, he has become obsessed with tasting their flesh.

He is a bit of a coward, averse to any real physical exertion. He will tend
to take the route of least resistance, unless there is the prospect of some
flesh, and then his obsession will drive him to do what ever it necessary.

Although he appears to be fat, slovenly, and cowardly, there lies within him
a strong will to dominate and to survive. This may in time lead him to the
Cult of the Scarab.

The Path Beyond

Added Mon Sep 8 13:28:51 2014 at level 30:
Miserable heat, miserable light, miserable mountains! Why oh why did the
overworld have to go up and down so much! Hvrakleas wonders if being eaten
by cavefishers wasn't the better option, rather than what he has had to
endure since coming out of the underdark, but still, he has to admit, he has
learned much of his craft from the guilds he has encountered. The first, in
Udgaard, was one of his own kind, although a rather haughty female, (and
really which drow females were not?), she did teach him quite a few tricks,
including some nuances of enhancing his golems. Then there was the strange
Arial master, though the trek to reach him was so painful Hvrakleas believed
his heart would leap out of his chest if he had taken another step. Yet while
there in the cool recesses of the crypts he perfected much. It was also there
he came across the Wight Lord Ulamette, quite an impressive visage she was,
and it was she who revealed to him the greater drawbacks of the becomings.
Wights, it appears are able to still gnaw on bone, so satiate their desires
and hungers, but Lichs were bereft of such things, having no need nor want to
feed on flesh, or drink the nectar of blood. Then she revealed the those who
became desiccated and turned to the form of a Mummy were able to partake in
certain ritual which enabled them to indulge in those pleasures which he so
enjoyed. To feast. To taste the sweet meats of flesh and organ. This then
would be the path into which he would begin his research.

Glorious Decay

Added Tue Sep 23 11:10:41 2014 at level 36:
Oh what magnificence! Who could have known there was such ancient death and
carnage amongst the caverns of the underdark? Everywhere I look I find the
remnant of death, what a glorious sight, the scent of decay clings to the the
walls and the dead answer my call at every step! If I had realized I may
never have come above to the overworld, but still there are things here which
have benefited me greatly, and I cannot deny that there is more opportunity
for the flesh of elves, not to mention these new Azure beings. Oh how I long
for a sliver of their light infused flesh, how sweet it must taste to be
consumed. Soon I hope to partake as their numbers grow in the realm.

My powers grow and new nuances of my craft become apparent with each day, I
have now found four unique creations of greater undead, each it seems with
unique abilities. Soon I will seek to learn the lore of which will let me
summon my victims within the dark recesses of the underdark, and I will
become its master. We shall see then which of these overlanders have the
fortitude to face me in my element and terrain.
Again I have heard the call of the Temple, other's who wear the vestments
have spoken to me and I find our minds akin. I have slain at least one of who
makes their home in the fortress of light, and like all there is blinded by
its lies. Others have come beneath my will and have fallen. Soon then I shall
try to reach out to the Father and see if there is a place for me within the
Temple's walls.

Now I have found my place in the darkness I shall also seek the Lord Arvam, I
have neglected my pursuit of his grace chasten myself for it. So focused have
I been on perfecting my craft that I have let too much time pass, I need to
find out more about this Eternal one.

Temple Vestments

Added Tue Oct 7 13:34:57 2014 at level 41:
Since the first whispers of the Cult of the Scarab came to my ears I have
felt a kinship, a certain belonging with others who believe their will is
paramount, and only by following the desires of one's being can you find true
strength. And so, at a time of opportunity and a demonstration of my
fortitude to the Eye of the Scarab, I have donned the Temple Vestments.

We shall see what glories will become of it, and in truth, the ability to tap
into the knowledge of one as well traveled as the Eye can only enhance the
chances of me achieving my goals within the Ghoul Tunnels.

A strange twist though, during my discussion with the Eye he revealed several
things, whether by design or by the favor of my amiable manner, he had been
the one to drain the Scion Scepter of its powers, and he held a certain, what
I perceived as, healthy fear of Ulamette. The undead, it appears, have a
certain resilience against the spells of the transmuter's guild. I shall tuck
this nugget away until it comes time to use it to my advantage, but it lends
my thoughts to be drawn to the Shadow Plane, Ulamette has also spoken of it
and it seems that she feels the loss of Scion powers were a viable exchange
for access to such a place. I shall continue to try and learn more of it as I
grow closer to my meeting with the Conservator, I sense that the dark
energies there may be something that the undead might be better suited to
withstand than most. What if, the dark powers there might be tapped? The
Scepter granted access to the Shadow Plane, what if the Shadow Plane might
grant access to the power of the Chasm?

Zhenyen, I am told, was once the Chancellor of the Eternal Night, yet he
abandoned the Chasm to reopen the doors of the Temple and seek the untold
powers of the Shadow Plane. Would it not be fitting then, for one of the
Temple to use its powers to once again unleash the power of the Eternal
Night? Or, is there power in the shadows that neither of these two factions
have contemplated? While walking the halls of the Lyceum I came across the
Torch of Shadows, now inert and lifeless. Yet it once wielded the power of
the Shadow Plane, what terror and chaos would be unleashed on this realm if
once more the Shadows held the dark terror of those who wielded such powers?
These thoughts amuse my mind, all merely conjecture, as I have no substantive
proof that any of such things may even be possible. While those thoughts
tickle the dark corners of my mind, I know I have first a great task ahead to
surmount: none have survived the Conservators' process in many long years.
Whether my chances are greater than theirs will depend on my diligent study
and some small spin of luck's coin.

A Chance Meeting

Added Tue Oct 7 13:35:56 2014 at level 41:
My calls to the Lord Arvam were finally answered and deep within the bowels
of the underdark we spoke. I think he was intrigued by my designs to unleash
my vengeance on Teth Azeleth, and certainly encouraged my dominion over the
underdark.

I continue to lurk there as suits my purposes, soon even the beasts which
hunt there will acknowledge my power and will either step aside or perish. If
my becoming is a success there will be no mortals who will dare enter my
domain. The Darkness will feed and the soil of the underdark will reap new
blood and carrion.

Beyond the Veil

Added Wed Oct 15 23:13:36 2014 at level 47:
Beyond the veil of death lies power unending, the negative plane which,
until now I have only touched. Reaching my hand beyond the veil to draw forth dark trendrils
which animate my minions. Now, after an arduous foray into the tunnels below Hamsah
braving the hunger of the ghouls, and a titania battle of will against a fearsome golem
of sandstone. Almost a complete moon phase we dance, his blows stunning me, while I ripped
the dark powers which animated him from his form. Then finally after searching the chambers
he guarded I found a gong. Such a simple seeming thing, but as I struck it the Conservator
materialized in front of me, offering a path beyond the veil and, I hope, a way back.

Now I must search, four things he bade me bring, and well I know that if I err it will
be my end. I will recruit strength, for some may require force to obtain which I do not yet possess.
Others I will recruit possess lore and guile, for there will be those who will seek to stop
or hinder what I attempt to do. Yes, now is a time of caution. I must conserve what frail health
this body retains, and plan, that should the toss of fate's coin land in my favor, I will
have enough to rise and bring the terror of the darkness to these lands.
Oh Teth Azeleth, how I will revel in your horror as I stalk your streets, raising the dead.
Those who have been so long trodden under your feel will answer my call, and I shall be
your master!
