Description
There is an odd, manic energy to this beautiful young woman. She is ever so
slightly in disarray - her mute pink lipstick slightly smudged on the right
corner of small mouth, a missed button bunching up the back of her fine,
black silk dress. Her fine red hair is piled up, and tied with what appears
to be an old, dirty wedding veil. She walks and moves smoothly and gently -
but pausing abruptly every couple seconds as if thinking of how to continue.
Her dark eyes dart about almost nervously, and there seems to be a twisted
half smile permanently etched onto her fine boned face.
She has her left knee wrapped in cloth and a brace, and she winces slightly
whenever she puts pressure on the foot.
Role
The Remains of a Wedding
Added Tue May 2 12:51:06 2023 at level 22:
She blinked away tears as she ran heedlessly through the Shadow Grove,
branches snapping angrily against her torn wedding dress and bare shoulders.
It had happened so quickly. Her beloved Drixiten, swallowed whole by the demon
that had torn out of the earth before them, his narrow drow feet kicking madly
as he slid down the thing's gullet. Then it had turned on the wedding guests,
a mad gleam in its snake-like eyes. It hadn't even had the respect for her
power to eat her next.
She thought back to the lessons. She had been the perfect student - the
praises had run out from her conjuration professors as soon as she had drawn
her first delicate circle. A generational talent, they had said.
And so in her fifth year they had bestowed a great honor - hosting her and
Drixiten's wedding in the Grove itself. They had fallen madly in love when he
had gallantly quenched the fire Hyara's inept laboratory partner Sarai had
started. He was hesitant at magic, but quick with both a joke and to help
those in need.
But nervousness had set in, and she had used all of the lessons she had
learned to draw the circle to summon a demon to bestow luck upon their
wedding. A little thing, easily within her power. She had never summoned a
demon that powerful, true, but she was the best student in the Tower, wasn't
she? Drixiten needn't know.
But the summoning had gone... wrong. The demon had gladly bestowed a blessing
on the wedding, for a small sacrifice - a tiny sparrow's heart, half chewed.
But then it had looked at her, squealing with demonic laughter... and she had
seen it. The vision. Magic tearing the world asunder. A million swallow hearts
pouring into the mouth of something... beyond. The cries of horror as Nature
succumbed.
Now she fled. Her vision blurred from tears, and she saw for an instant
Drixiten being swallowed, and the Veil tearing behind him unleashing... it.
Then she was running through the Grove again, whimpering.
A Summary of Hyara
Added Tue May 2 12:52:23 2023 at level 22:
Hyara is a former conjurer student from the Tower. After a summoning gone
wrong, which cost her soon-to-be husband's life (a drow named Drixiten), she
has been cursed with visions of the Veil tearing and Thar-Eris crumbling
after. She fully believes in this vision, and will do anything to stop it,
considering herself beyond redemption for her sins. She is a bit mad, and will
lie and scheme to achieve her goals, but can be rational and reasonable to
those she doesn't see as "Veil sunderers". She still suffers from an enormous
amount of pride (the ultimate cause of her downfall, per the summoning), and
can be condescending. While she can be deceptive, she does still believe in
honor in fights, and will not join in an ambush that she does not consider
fair.
Hyara will likely seek out Ergrush at some point, due to her ultimate
philosophy in defending Thar-Eris.
The Village
Added Mon May 8 19:42:26 2023 at level 37:
The times immediately after Hyara fled the bloodbath of the wedding were
trying. She, a girl born to rich merchants of Tir Talath and educated in the
Tower, slowly learned to fend for herself. She begged on the streets of
Galadon, slept under the stars and trees on the very edge of wood elf
territory, and even worked the kitchens in no less than three inns of
Seantryn. Those who crossed paths with her found her polite but distant.
Preoccupied, yet still competent.
And through it all, the vision plagued her - the Veil laid waste by greedy
magelings, and horror flooding into an unprotected Thar-Eris.
And then she discovered the Village. A group that had a solution to the future
her vision promised. Slay the magelings. Ruthlessly. Hunt them in forest,
plains, desert, city. On the beaches of the Aryth. High upon the cliffs of
Ayr-Trinil. Anywhere you could. Take their lives and drive the rest into
hiding. Then find the hiding spots, and lay waste to those, too.
And the tiny group of warriors and rogues welcomed her with open arms. The
Commander explained that her vision was true, and that she had been right to
seek them out. Her first night in her hut was the first time in a long time
she had felt safe. And the vision - while it didn't fade away - set her to
determination, rather than the fear that had always preoccupied her.
But while some of her hut mates drove themselves into fury and charged into
the cities where the magelings huddled within their guilds, Hyara surveyed the
battlefield with a cold eye and mind. Subterfuge, spying, lying. Befriend
those who might get you closer to the magelings. Quietly betray those who
would oppose you. Strew chaos behind you, but leave those in its wake
questioning who caused it. This, she thought, was the way to end the
magelings. Charging in painted a target on your back, gave the magelings
something to organize against. Hyara would be subtler.
Her guilt would drive her to protect Thar-Eris from the threat of Magic even
at the cost of her own death.
Plans Chaotically Form
Added Sat May 20 12:35:33 2023 at level 48:
The plan was coming together. She had identified the major weaknesses in two
of the major cabals of horrid magelings.
The Spire's? The Law itself. After sustaining a scrape to the knee to an ice
slick mistakenly placed by the Magistrate Acadus at the Market Square in
Galadon, Hyara has placed a faux brace on her left knee, and plays up the
injury in front of law abiding citizens in particular. She has plans to file a
lawsuit against the Spire, and after fruitlessly looking for a representative,
has decided to represent herself. She hopes to see the Spire crumble by
manipulating the very thing they put their faith in.
And the Fortress's? Guilt. While stalking the Captain Coqui outside the
Fortress, Coqui and Bazz were able to root her out and attack her before she
could strike. She now loudly cries malfeasance, pleading to any Fortress
member that will listen to her innocence and how the rabid magelings struck
her without cause. All lies, but she had forged relationships with those of
the Fortress so she could get closer to the mageling leaders that they have.
By using their kindness against them, she hopes that the mageling leaders of
the Fortress will be purged, and more suitable replacements will be found.
Notice of Intent
Added Sat May 20 13:18:54 2023 at level 48:
Notice of Intent
This letter is hereby forthwith a notice of Hyara Dobrogeanu's intent to
formally request a trial of recompense for injuries sustained in the fair city
of Galadon.
The claim is as follows:
On May 12th according to the calendar of the Gods, one Magistrate Acadus did
knowingly use magic to create an ice slick in the city square. As a result,
Hyara, an unwarranted, poor Villager, unsuspecting and with a smile on her
face, did fall and sustain grievous injuries to her left knee, rendering her
in constant pain and stiffness. This injury puts her in danger of not being
able to fulfill her professional requirements of hunting most magelings or if
not at least chasing them while berating them loudly.
Hyara Dobrogeanu seeks recompense in the form of one thousand gold coins, as
well as a public, contrite apology from both Magistrate Acadus and his
supervisors.
A witness list as well as a healer's report will be provided when trial is
scheduled.
Sincerely,
Hyara "Never Criminal" Dobrogeanu
