Description
A gaunt figure is here, his silhouette suggesting a lithe
confident build. Upon closer inspection, one might notice a few
details that seem out-of-place - the dark well-tailored clothes
that shroud his body seem strangely loose, as though a blanket of
air separates the fabrics from his skin in some areas. Those with
a keen eye may catch the stray ends of some bandages hidden
beneath the contours of a sleeve or a collar, but that is only
the beginning.
What seems like rich black hair at first falls apart under
scrutiny, the strands having long lost their luster. Minute
alterations to the orientation hide the absence of hair in
several locations, the illusion nearly pristine yet slightly
flawed in some way that is hard to pinpoint. His visage is
smooth, though the skin resembles polished bone - in contrast,
the dark circles where his eyes should have been appear all the
more striking.
When he speaks, the voice is clear yet coarse like gilded
cobbles. What was once a set of healthy teeth is now aged as if
the figure was recently exhumed from a tomb, a gash on his left
cheek forming a permanent one-sided smile. All the flesh within
this cavity is gone, exposing sinewy tissue within. A skeletal
hand reaches, every so often, to the three gold chains hanging
around his neck. It is during these few moments that glimmers of
emotion emerge from the figures gaunt features, though they are
swiftly extinguished.

There was a dark time in the Tribunal history when a dark entity
sat upon the helm of the Spire, taking the reigns and embarking
upon an era of darkness and deception. During this time, those of
pure heart were morally driven from the law or ostracized within
their profession, banished to the furthers ends of Thera so their
light would not afflict the bloodied heart of the law.
Ilaenvenval's parents were such. Banished to the jurisdiction of
Seantryn with their wages diminished and driven to the brink of
desperation. With a newborn child on the way, they were forced to
drastic measures and turned instead to unpredictable life of the
hired guard, selling their blades to the wealthy merchants who
traversed the lands. Their new trade would claim their lives,
leave their newborn orphaned and destined to be raised by his
elderly grandfather whom was forbidden from meeting his grandson.
The light did not penetrate his heart nor fill his spirit with
warmth. He was a hardened man, fair and just and would raise his
grandson with a firm respect of the law and the ideals of
strength and ruthlessness. Under the merciless eye of the once
famed Vindicator, Ilaenvenval would learn traits from his
grandfather that his parents would despise.
Protege

His growing years were riddled with chores and responsibility and
thus, he grew to maturity at an early age. He was disciplined, up
before dawn each morning to begin his routine, to train his body
to be stronger and more militant under the the tutelage of his
grandfather. He took lessons in all things from history to
alchemy and mystics, but his main focus was built around the laws
and cultures of Thera.
There was little argument as to where his path would lead him. He
would be a Magistrate like his grandfather, charged with the
burden of redeeming a disgrace brought upon his families honor by
his parents. The hardness of his grandfather turned his mind and
heart against his parents for they had betrayed their oath, their
duty and their honor.
In fact it was this deep sense of hatred and purpose that first
planted a dark and malevolent seed within his spirit, one that
would eventually turn itself into the infernal mystics of
necromancy. So deep did he feel shame at being the offspring of
deserting parents that he felt he owed the Blood Tribunal a debt
greater than his life alone.
And thus an unhealthy obsession had begun.
Necromancer

The Academy would be the last place he would see his grandfather
for many years. His instructions were simple and defined. Choose
your trade. Strive for perfection. Join the Blood Tribunal.
Redeem your family honor at all costs. He was told to return into
his grandfather's presence was within a casket or accompanied by
the lieutenants granted to those of stature.
So he lamented his loneliness and allowed darkness to fill his
heart with the chill of isolation. He found necromancy more
fascinating than he would have imagined and began to grow in the
guild with a raw passion of a soul that was truly lost to all
other purpose. He found company in the deathly creatures and
minions he raised to do his bidding and resigned himself to a
life accompanied by decay.
The rest of his orders were easy. He joined the Spire with a
dutiful heart and unbeknown to him, under the same tyrant that
had driven his parents to abandon their post many years ago. But
before that knowledge would have a chance to find its way into
his heart and offer him the truth, the Provost would die and take
Ilaenvenval's truth and salvation to the grave.
Only a husk would remain of what he could have been. A dutiful,
dark and deathly husk. Truly a creature his parents would have
despised.
... Just as he despised them.
