To get to know Iljenia we have to go back and look at the past. It is after all the past that defines why we do like we do in the future. Growing up on one of the wine castles south of Sentryn Modan Iljenia as a child got use to having a nanny to do her every wish, getting everything she pointed at from her father and all the other benefits of the upper-class. Life was sailing by in calm seas but in the east a storm was building. Iljeia's father managed to insult the Empress of Sentryn Modan and was thrown into jail and all of the family possessions were confiscated. Being left to her own as her mother had died giving birth to her Iljenia tried to get help from other rich families she had socialised with before. But finding that they feared being associated with the name of Marquise de Sombre she finally found herself going from Inn to Inn making her living reciting the stories she had read about the great wars, the epic love stories of elven princesses and how the Immortals came to be. Living the life of a drifter she was at the Inn of the Eternal Star one day when she met another story teller and fellow bard by the name Cantilena with some company. As it was a slow day Iljenia couldn't help over hearing their discussion of the Empire and the giving of the bloodoath. At the mention of the Empire something clicked for Iljeia. Here was the very thing she had been looking for. How could she have overlooked it. Becoming Empress she would bring back glory to the family name and make everything as it should be again. She approached Cantilena and asked if she would do the honour to give her the bloodoath. Said and done Cantilena started laying down the bloodoath. But something went wrong (probably the bard was to drunk, it happened a lot). So Iljenia was asked to seek the war mistress Eoria. By the time Iljenia found Eoria and could talk to her she had reached the top of her guild. The oath was given but Eoria was suspicious of her commitment to the Empire as she joined so late in life. And as fate would have it the joy of been given the oath would not last long. Two days and 200 gold later she was cast out by Eoria again, now anathema to the Empire. Feeling she had been done wrong she now finds herself hunted by the one thing that should have brought her back to status. As life is now she finds herself fighting where she finds a fight. Drinking her wine (none of that bad ale that the dwarfs keep drinking) and well yes a martini now and then, trying to figure out how to make her name known.
