Role
Cry of Thunder
Added Wed Apr 30 13:51:39 2008 at level 48:
While an apprentice stonemason, Ysaloerye taught Inger a new warcry for her to use in
battle. Since becoming a Stonemason the Paragon has taught even more powerful
warcries to the villager. Because of this generosity, Inger has decided to honor her Lady
with a tribute by learning, Cry of Thunder, so that the warcries might strike even more
fear into her foes.
Ysaloerye's task
Added Wed Apr 16 11:33:08 2008 at level 44:
Inger has been set out on a task by her Lady, Ysaloerye, to find out the favored stone of
blacksmith's and bring a block back. She was told that if she visited some blacksmiths
across the land she should find the stone in the smithies. Upon receiving this task Inger
eagerly set out to accomplish this new lesson and impress Ysaloerye. Inger traveled to
smithies across the lands, above and below looking for a stone that all these smiths had in
common. However, to her disappointment she could not find a single stone that seemed
to stand out and connect the smiths together.
Inger returned to the village of BattleRagers with a few mugs of ale and sat in the War
Room and used her meager intelligence to think on what she had seen in these travels.
While thinking on the topic a sudden realization came to her. She needed to apply what
she had previously learned in her apprenticeship. Every task and lesson she had been
given had up to this point used the art of stonemasonry as a metaphor to explain life. Why
should this task be any different? As Inger pondered this new angle, the answers started
to fall into place. She had learned that just as a stonemason uses the fires from within the
earth to shape the stone, so he uses the fires from within to shape himself and the world
about. Inger smiled as the answer presented itself to her. The smith's favorite stone was
himself. He uses to fires from within to guide his will, which in turn shapes the metal on
the anvil in front of him. With a chuckle Inger realized that she had already brought the
block of stone before Ysaloerye without even knowing it. The block of stone was in fact
herself!
Blackouts
Added Mon Apr 7 20:28:18 2008 at level 44:
Inger awoke with a dizzying headache. She found herself lying on the ground and rolled
over to see where she was at. She noted dimly through the haze that clouded her mind
that she was someplace familiar. Yes, she remembered being at this place. But, what had
happened? She wasn't drinking ale to an excess and didn't feel hung over, so why can't
she remember anything from the last half day?
Taking a moment to compose her mind, Inger relaxed on her back with her eyes closed.
When she felt that she was stable enough she sat up and blinked a few times to adjust her
eyes. Once she felt accustomed to the light she began to stand and absent mindedly
reached for her axe. Upon doing this she came to the sudden realization that it wasn't
there. Panicked gripped her mind as she looked down at herself and saw that she was
completely naked and missing of all her belongings. Not Again!! Inger screamed out
loud in frustration. Inger instantly knew what had happened for this was not the first time.
It was the magic sleep. Somehow, she knew instinctively, some damnable mage was able
to lull her into a magic induced sleep and rob her of all her things while she slept. It was
the only possible explanation. Feeling the anger and fire well up inside her, Inger vowed
to find this mage and make him regret the day he first learned to cast a spell.
A Chance Meeting
Added Thu Mar 27 10:48:38 2008 at level 30:
Inger rushed over a mountain trail as she was out on one of her hunting expeditions. She
heard of some mages training their magic skills somewhere in these mountains. It had
been so many years since she left her village, but, she vaguely recognized the area and
knew that she was within a days or twos travel of her old village. -No time for old
memories- she thought to herself as she rounded a boulder and came upon a small party
of four cloud giant warriors.
Inger immediately recognized the leader of the party as Jan, a captain in her old village
and it was apparent he recognized her too. Inger!, Jan bellowed out in surprise, "What
is it you do here? What happened to you? Come sit, share some ale. You ran off without
telling anyone. Your brother was very angry. Why leave? Where go?"
You know why left, Jan. If I stay, Magnus be dead by my axe, donchya know?, Inger
said quiet seriously as she took a swig of the offered ale without sitting. "I left, go find
village of BoltThrower's ancestors. Village like yours, they fight magi too. They have no
cares if man or woman. Allow me to fight, and become great warrior. This village even
has women deities, yah. One take me under wing, make apprentice. Teach the ways of
stonemason. I learn to use inner fire to shape world around me like shape stone. Use this
to fight magic. You tell my brother, he cross my path it will be his biggest regret." With
those words Inger turned and went on her way leaving the giant soldiers to look at each
other in awe. For they knew her skill before she left, but, they could sense she had grown
much stronger since that time and now possessed an inner spirit and will that they could
almost physically feel. There wasn't a doubt in any of their minds that she meant exactly
what she said and could do it.
A little about Inger
Added Mon Mar 10 08:46:54 2008 at level 20:
To those who Inger calls friends, she is very high-spirited, energetic and outgoing. She enjoys laughing
drinking, joking and having a good time. She is, however, a very fierce warrior and her temper and
and anger can be quite ferocious. She left her village because of the insult her brother laid on
her, which is something she will forever hold against him. Because of this unwillingness to forgive
and her love for and skill in combat she has decided to seek the counsel of Lady Ysaloerye as
a way to excel in this world.
A split in the family
Added Thu Mar 6 05:39:24 2008 at level 18:
Giants in full armor were lining up in formation, preparing to march on some wizards
traveling through the mountains and at the same time looking away with dismay at the
confrontation that was occurring before them. Inger screamed the foulest curses she could
think of at her eldest brother Magnus while being barely restrained by three giant
warriors. Svend had passed away a month earlier and Magnus was now the village chief.
He had always been jealous of Inger's skill and was now using his power as chief to
prevent her from going into battle because of it.
Inger calmed enough so that she was released from the restraining hands of the warriors
and watched in a silent fit of rage as her brother and his men march off into the horizon.
She could never forgive him for what he just did. Someday she hoped to make that point
blatantly clear with the blade of her axe she thought as she turned and went to gathered
her things, there was no need for her to stay here anymore. She would travel into the
world and make her own way as a wizard slayer. Recalling to mind the story she had
been told as a child, she pondered the possibility of finding this village of BoltThrower
that her ancestor, Tor, had traveled with.
Maturation
Added Thu Mar 6 05:36:37 2008 at level 18:
A grown Inger grined broadly while holding the blade of her axe against the throat of her
eldest brother who lay sprawled out on the ground. This was the third time in a row she
had bested him, not to mention the other men of the village. An aging Svend looked on
from across the field with a smile. He loved her so much that he couldn't ever find it in
him to stop her from training with the men, despite the fact that it went against tradition.
In fact, she had become so skilled that he was heavily considering further breaking
tradition and letting her go into battle. A force like her would do great things for the
village, and it seemed that many other villagers were inclined to agree.
Heritage
Added Thu Mar 6 05:34:34 2008 at level 18:
Come mine daughter, it's time you knew da story of our people, the pale-skinned giant
chief named Svend said in a husky tone. Hearing her fathers beckoning, the young giant
girl crawled over and took a seat at her father's feet on a warm bear skin rug beside the
fire. "Yah, good, good. Dis village has been here many generations, even before da time
of da great Tor. You see, mine daughter, back in da days when men cared more for crops
an sheep den of blades, wizards began to round dese men up for use in deir causes. Such
it was here in dis village. Most giant men had been taken away leaving only da women,
young, old an lame to live here in dis village."
Svend smiled down at his daughter before taking a long pull of ale from the giant mug on
the table beside him and then continued saying, "Tor was a giant like dat too, but, not
from dis village. Oh Yah, he was taken by da wizards of order to fight deir battle. He
one of many who had learned a resistance to magic from the experiments of dhose
wretched wizards and forced to fight deir wars. Tor fought for dese wizards an was also
betrayed by dhem when dhey tried to kill all da warriors like Tor because dey had
become too powerful. After da betrayel he escaped into da mountains after with a dwarf
named BoltThrower, who is said to have started his own village of magic hating warriors,
but was separated from da dwarf an his men after just a few days in da mountains. Many
a days Tor wandered through da mountains until he came to dis here village. Da good
people took da weary an worn Tor in, an seein dat dere were no able men in da village he
decided to stay to help da people. Tor vowed vengeance against da wizards dat betrayed
him an against da magic dat mortals shouldn't wield. Da people of da village, having had
deir men an lives taken by da wizards were quick to agree. From dat day forward dis
village had a new purpose, one we still follow to dis day. We are wizard slayers,
daughter."
With a scarred eye Svend watched his daughter's reactions to his words carefully and
smiled in response to her excitable eyes and broad smile. She had such spirit, his
daughter, and the people in the village all loved her gregarious disposition. Inger also
loved to fight, unfortunately, it was a shame she was a female. It had long been tradition
that only the males were allowed to train as warriors and go into battle against the
wizards. Oh, how he wished she weren't female. He didn't want to deprive his daughter
of something she loved, and was actually quite good at. Did he really have to? He was
chief after all, and what harm would it do to let her explore these skills? It's not like he'd
send her daughter into battle, he did have other sons, afterall. -Oh, mine daughter,
have so much spirit- the chief thought with a sigh. Dismissing the thought he smiled once
again at Inger and said, You are mine daughter, and we are descendants of Tor.
