Role
A Devious Plan
Added Sat Dec 21 12:10:42 2013 at level 15:
Ishuntal Duzeran sighed deeply as he sat down at the table. He reached out with no small amount of
enthusiasm and pulled the tome he was being required to read closer to him. History. How boring. He
had just joined the school for magic to be an anti-paladin in Teth Azeleth not more than a day ago and
he was eager to learn the good stuff. He didnt want to be wasting time learning about history. He
wanted to be learning about iceballs and unholy blessings! Unfortunately, the guildmaster insisted that
to be a student of magic one must have a sound educational base and understand magics place in the
world and that started with this book, A History of Thera. What stung even more, is that Ishuntal knew
the guildmaster was right. His ambition and strong desire to succeed trumped his desire to push aside
this task, and with that he began to read.
The first portion of the book was a history of the creation. It taught of the Lord of Shadows and the
Violet Spider and their roles in this. As the book went on it began to focus mostly on the Violet Spider
and the beginnings of magic in the lands. After several hours of reading commentaries focusing on the
magic of order and chaos and their struggles against each other Ishuntal came to a chapter about the
creation of the anti-magic army that would later become known as the present day Battleragers.
Battleragers, Ishuntal thought to himself snidely and snorted with audible derision. He had heard of the
short-minded fools, whose supposed hatred of magic gave them incredible powers. That thought hung
short in his mind. This book says something different. It says that their powers are not a product of their
hatred but rather they were created by magic. Ishuntal leaned back in his chair and mused, they were
created by magic.
Plan Part 2
Added Sat Dec 21 12:12:31 2013 at level 15:
The idea settled over him with a tingle of excitement and his acute drow mind began working out the
ramifications of this simple, yet, possibly important distinction. If mages used magic to create the anti-
magic army, which were at the time were more potent versions of the current Battlerager powers, could
it not be done again? Certainly the secrets have been lost to time, but, it had to be possible to replicate
it. Imagine the possibility of this? To be able to arm oneself with the famed powers of the Battleragers
while not restricted by their narrow way of thinking, this could be revolutionary.
Immediately possessed of a desire to investigate this possibility further Ishuntal cast aside his task of
learning the history of the world and began to research more about the Battleragers. He learned that
the Battleragers are one of several of Theras cabals whose powers are actually granted by the bloody
head of a magician when kept in their skull throne. Could this head be a magical artifact? Could these
powers that were once magically inherent in these warriors have been altered in a way that their use
requires the possession of this magical artifact? At any rate, it certainly led evidence to his speculation
that these powers were not generated by the intensity of their hatred, but, rather still based in some
sort of magic. He researched the Battleragers further and found that one of their most hated enemies
was an evil cabal called the Scions of Eternal Night. The Scions are famed for their magical research,
hoping to unlock secrets of power lost to the ages, waiting for the strong and the brave to reclaim them
for the day when the eternal night comes.
Plan Part 3
Added Sat Dec 21 12:22:04 2013 at level 15:
The Scions fascinated him and sounded like the perfect organization for a power hungry drow like
himself. Would the ability to replicate the powers of the Battleragers magically be of interest to them?
He thought they most certainly would. But how could this be accomplished? He would need to study the
Battleragers and their powers and that would never happen as a mage or as a Scion. How would he go
about unlocking these secrets? The answer struck him like a lightning bolt.
He would join the Battleragers under false pretense.
Excitedly he began to lay the foundation of his plans to unlock the secret of the Battlerager powers.
First, he would have to become something on the outside acceptable to the Battleragers. He would have
to leave the mages guild and join another guild. The assassins guild should do nicely for this as they are
adept at stealth, which will be necessary for this mission. He will then need to travel to the surface and
seek out a lord of Scion. He will need their blessing before he undertakes this plan. Obviously, it will
require the utmost secrecy so only the Lord Reksah and perhaps the Chancellor and or Advisor should
be aware of the plan to better protect him and ensure his success. Should they give him their blessing he
will attempt to join the Village of the Battleragers as a Scion agent set out to learn the secrets of their
powers and replicate them magically. The first test of his theory will require him to gain entrance to the
Village and use of the powers granted by the head. If he should succeed in this then he will know it is not
hatred that grants the powers, as he will have no hatred for magic, and that will prove that the magical
replication of the powers is possible.
Plan Conclusion
Added Sat Dec 21 12:23:07 2013 at level 15:
Gaining entrance will be a challenge. Certainly they will vet him thoroughly and he most likely will be
required to kill some magi. Killing wouldnt be a problem for a drow like him, nor will be lying through
the admission process. He will just need a sound story to prove his sincerity. The answer he realized is
right in front of him. Leaving the magi school and the anti-paladin guild in Teth Azeleth will certainly
create some enemies within the guild. He will be on a death list, and that will play right into his plans. He
can tell the Battleragers some story about a feud with the anti-paladin guild and how he resents their
claim of magical supremacy over the assassins guild. They will never be able to verify the story but will
see that he is hunted by the guild. It should work perfectly.

It is through his desire to unlock the ancient secrets of magic that first created the anti-magic army that
Ishuntal is associated with the path of revelation. He sees the genesis of his devious plan a type of
revelation of ideas and hopes that through hard work that the secrets will be revealed to him. Now that
he is set on his path he is determined to see it through. He is willing to risk all for the chance at success,
for if he succeeds, he will achieve a greatness that few have achieved before. Because of this appetite to
accomplish this task and his focus on revelation he has decided to follow the Lord Arvam for guidance in
his pursuits.
The Next Step
Added Fri Jan 3 17:07:34 2014 at level 24:
Ishuntal sought out his patron lord Arvam and explained his plan to him. Upon receiving his blessing,
Ishuntal set out to seek the approval of the Chancellor. When Ishuntal approached that Chancellor and
explained what his intentions were the Chancellor had his doubts. Ishuntal wondered if the Chancellor
behaved this way with all those who sought the Chasm with plans of magical discovery and research.
Despite his doubts, the Chancellor told Ishuntal if he thought it was worth trying he would not stop him.
Having received the Chancellors approval, Ishuntal has decided to seek out Arvam once again and make
his pledge to the Village.
Success!
Added Sun Jan 5 09:25:25 2014 at level 30:
While Ishuntal was seeking out the Chancellors approval he had been putting a great deal of effort into
making himself an attractive applicant to the Village. He went out of his way to try and cultivate
relationships with certain Battleragers and hunt as many magi as he could. Now that it was time to enter
the Village, those efforts seemed to have paid off in a big way. He found that the relationships he
cultivated allowed him to gain the recommendations needed and the number of magi he slew was far
and above what other applicants had done, which impressed the Drillmaster. He expected more scrutiny
into his background, but, his previous efforts seemed to have made the story easy to believe.
The background story he gave the Drillmaster revolved around drowish politics. He told him that as a
part of the assassins guild in Teth Azeleth he had been competing for a job with a higher house against
the anti-paladins guild. He was able to convince the house he was better suited for the job with his
stealth over their magic. The anti-paladins were angered he won, and in retaliation they supported his
target with magic to ensure his failure and show their magic superior to his stealth. His failure led to his
disgrace and dismay in Teth Azeleth and so before leaving in exile he, much like the famed Battlerager
Triln who slew Saberhagen, snuck into their guild and slaughtered many in stealth. Now he is marked for
death by the anti-paladins and hunts magi in Thera out of pride and spite for his downfall.
Success! con't
Added Sun Jan 5 09:27:17 2014 at level 30:
This story along with his recommendations and number of magi skulls created a cover suitable enough
to earn his way into the Village. The process was exhilarating, and it took all his assassins training to
keep from showing the nerves during the induction process. Once inducted, Ishuntal was excited to
discover that his theory was indeed possible. He, a drow with no magical hatred, was able to draw on
the powers of the head.
Upon this success he reported to the Chancellor, who he felt must be more interested in his project than
letting on as he remembered and inquired about his progress. Ishuntal explained the next part of his
plan would be to study the powers and begin to figure out a way to replicate them in place of the head,
perhaps a sort of magical reverse engineering. Now that he was inside, however, he began to realize
some issues that he would have to handle delicately if he were to maintain his ruse. One was the Scions
came for the head, which was certainly counter-productive to his studies, but, also put him in a situation
where he would have to strike back at the Chasm. He told the Chancellor it would be necessary and did
it. It wasnt killing the nightwalker that made him uneasy, it was the fact that it might make him seem
dishonest in his plans to the Chancellor. In the end, he decided that if some nightwalkers and lower tier
Scion need to die in his pursuit of power, so be it. He only hoped the Chancellor wouldnt become
suspicious of him.
That Bloody Head
Added Mon Jan 6 17:50:40 2014 at level 30:
It didnt take long for an obstacle to fall in Ishuntals path. He had been thrilled that he was able to
access all of the Village powers upon his induction, however, this didnt last long. Not long after his
induction Ishuntal began to get the feeling that the bloody head was actually paying attention to him. It
almost felt as if it were staring at him from its place locked within the throne. Then, to his dismay, he
realized that the spellbane ability was now beyond his reach. He could still use the other powers
afforded to him through the head, yet, when he did he felt that eerie feeling that the head was watching
him. When he tried to call upon the spellbane, however, the head was too distant.
This was very disconcerting to Ishuntal. What did it mean to his theory? Certainly there was still some
truth to it, as he was able to call upon other Village powers, but, the spellbane he could not. Was this
because of his lack of hatred? Had a hatred for magic really become a necessary ingredient over the
years for access to the anti-magic powers? Or had he misjudged the nature of the head? He had always
assumed the head to be some sort of artifact, similar to a magical talisman that provided the powers.
Now he was not so sure. The head seemed to have a mind of its own, which caused him to wonder, why
would it care? It was the severed head of a magician. If it did have a life of its own, it would seem logical
to assume that it would hate the Battleragers for what they had done to it and would welcome someone
like Ishuntal drawing power off of it, but, this didnt seem to be the case. It was all very mysterious.
Ishuntal decided it was even more necessary than before to study all he could about the head, including
its history and origin. He would have to do so in a way not to arouse suspicion against him, which would
be tricky. He would need a plan.
A New Chancellor
Added Sat Jan 11 15:53:13 2014 at level 35:
Zhenyen abdicated his position as Chancellor to become a Scarab. This had Ishuntal quite worried as he
Zhenyen knew his secret. After some time, it seems that Zhenyen truly was uncaring about his activities
and perhaps has simply forgotten. He met with Halifan, the new Chancellor and revealed himself. He
found the new Chancellor to be much more open and encouraging to his activities. He explained all to
Halifan, including the point where he was at presently, which was trying to figure out a way to trick the
rest of the Village into learning about the history and origins of the head on his behalf. He felt that the
Village Warlords had the answers, but, couldnt afford to simply ask them himself. Hes currently toying
with the idea of creating a false threat to the Village, where the head is at risk and the answers lie in its
origins. Perhaps something out of the Villages past come back to haunt once again. This perhaps would
get the Villagers to approach Thror on his behalf and learn what he needs to know. Halifan was open to
this possibility and agreed to help him devise a plan.
The Plan
Added Mon Jan 27 16:16:21 2014 at level 43:
Ishuntal began researching deep into the Village history, hoping to find some piece of information that
might aid him in his endeavors. At first, he found little by way of historical threats that he might
resurrect to nudge the villagers to research the history of the head, but, finally after searching through
the lyceum and the hut of remembrance he came across a pair of stories written by the bards Yean and
Aramonk. The stories revolved around ten anvils and how there seemed to have been an expedition by
the Village to recover one in the ages past. Yeans story in particular mentions three anvils that were said
to be destroyed, but, more than likely were taken and hidden by the mages of chaos.
Ishuntal decided that these anvils might have to do. He decided to build a story around the anvils that
he could use for his purposes. The story he devised is that one of the three anvils taken by the chaos
magi was an anti-magic anvil that was taken during the battle where the anti-magic army was betrayed
by the mages of order. This anvil was a new anvil at the time, and the anti-magic army only had been
able to forge one weapon on it before it was lost. This weapon would be the blade that actually cleaved
the head off the powerful magi in that battle that would become the bloody head stored in the throne.
The blade has also since been lost, but, rumors of the anvil have surfaced and its location is tied to the
history of the bloody head and the mage it belonged to. The story would go on that the Chancellor has
learned of this and decided to secure the anvil for himself.
After speaking with Halifan, the Chancellor agreed to use the story in the ruse, and also agreed to
involve the Heralds as a means to plant the story with the Battleragers. Halifan would approach the
Heralds looking for information on the anvil and inform them of what he knew with the intention of
them relaying the story to the Battleragers who in turn would seek out the history of the bloody head in
order to locate anvil before Halifan. If everyone played their part, the Heralds especially, the plan would
work. Ishuntal hoped it would work this way, otherwise, he would have to get involved personally
himself to nudge the story along and risk his own exposure.
Faking a Villager
Added Tue Feb 4 09:41:37 2014 at level 45:
When Ishuntal joined the Village he made the decision that he would do his best to act as a proper
Villager should. He would adhere strictly to all their rules so there would be no chance to jeopardize his
greater goal over a trivial breach of the Village code of conduct. For the most part it has been fairly
smooth sailing in this regard. Hes hunted all manner of magi, even scion mages at times, upheld parity
and courage as befitting a berserker and stayed his hand for the most part, at the cost of great
frustration to himself, to those who arent considered enemies of the Village unless they have initiated
the aggression.
At first, Ishuntal thought all this should be fairly simple and clear cut, but, as he would to discover there
are many gray areas. For instance, how should he deal with applicants? Fortunately for Ishuntal he
hadnt been approached by many but the question did vex him. He had no desire to listen to their grand
plans for ridding the world of magic, but, he knew that part of being an upstanding Villager was taking
the time to listen to these misguided fools. After much consideration, he decided on two things. First, he
would recommend them all. If he recommended some dunce or weakling into the Village, all the better
he figured. Second, he would use the opportunity to probe them for any signs of weakness that could be
exploited later. Perhaps he would find one who isnt a wholly dedicated as he or she claims to be and he
could turn them into an asset at a later time.
Another issue has been defending the scepter from his Scion. He would like to see his Chasm retrieve
their scepter and often times he is the only person standing in the way of that. On this he would have to
be careful. He would defend the giant as is his duty, but, the effort he puts into this or the speed in
which he returns to the Village may not be vigorous as normal.
So far the plan Ishuntal devised has yet to bear any fruit. Halifan planted the seed with the Herald
Corlyx, but, it seems Corlyx has yet to play his part. No word has returned to the Village about the anvil
or prompted any Villagers to look into the history of the head. If something doesnt happen soon
Ishuntal may have to try a different, perhaps even more direct approach. He did discuss this with Halifan
and the Chancellor agreed a reminder is in order.
The Dream
Added Wed Feb 5 15:58:09 2014 at level 46:
Halifan told Ishuntal that he went back and discussed again the story of the anvil with Corlyx, Saersha
and a few other Heralds. It occurred to Ishuntal that this story might find more credibility with the
Village if they learned of the Chancellor seeking the anvil without speaking to the Heralds, and then have
them confirm the story when asked. With this realization and desire to put this plan into full motion in a
timely manner, Ishuntal decided to take a risk and inform the Village leadership of the Chancellors
search for the anvil. To do this effectively, he would need a delivery method that wouldnt cause anyone
to be suspicious of him and so he decided to invent the story of having a dream where a voice tells him
about the Chancellors plans and how to protect the Village, which he wrote down on a scroll
immediately after waking up so as not to forget.
The scroll he wrote detailing the dream is as follows.
You see the clear image of a bloody severed head in your mind and a voice fills your mind.
Villager, a great threat is rising against the Village.
The Chancellor seeks an artifact of great power that has been lost to time, and once belonged to the
ancestors of the Village.
The Heralds know the nature of this item but its location lies with the history of the bloody head. Tell
your leaders to seek out this history from the Warlords of Battle, whose roots are as ancient.
Recover this item in all haste before the Chancellor!
He then told Hexugar about the dream and showed him the scroll. Hexugar took the dream very
seriously and ordered Ishuntal keep it quiet, lest the Chancellor were to discover they knew his plans. He
was also ordered to tell Crraya, and go to the lyceum in hopes of finding anything about the origins of
the head. The Drillmaster said he would seek out the Heralds and perhaps even the Warlords of Battle.
Things are finally beginning to progress nicely for Ishuntal.
A Life of It's Own
Added Tue Feb 11 19:09:23 2014 at level 48:
Ishuntals plans have sprung to life, but have also taken on a little bit of a life of their own. Even though
he is the one pulling the strings the story has evolved as the different pawns and players seem to be
adding their own little twists. For instance, Hexugar believes the Chancellor is seeking the Skull Sword
because it is the sword the severed the bloody head of the magician which is based on information he
received from Ysaloerye.
Another example is no other Villagers approached the Heralds to find out what they know, forcing
Ishuntal to do it himself. Halifan had said hed talked to Corlyx and Saersha, but, when Ishuntal
approached her she denied knowing anything. Finally, Ishuntal approached Corlyx and he did know
something, yet he refused to tell Ishuntal out of fear of Halifan. It seems Corlyx intends to hoard the
information to himself for his own benefit. Whats more is he believes there is two of what Halifan
seeks, not just one anvil.
At least Ishuntal can validate his dream to the villagers by telling them of Corlyxs refusal. He still needs
to learn some more information about the bloody head, and decide how hes going to duplicate its
powers.

Added Wed Feb 26 17:24:59 2014 at level 50:
A peculiar thing occurred. Hexugar went out of his way to bribe Corlyx for information on the story and
Corlyx obliged him by telling him of the anvil. Corlyx also relayed this story to Ishuntal, but, when
Ishuntal spoke with Hexugar about it, he did not get the response he anticipated from the Drillmaster.
To begin, Hexugar claimed Corlyx was lying and he had sources that told him otherwise, but, was very
secretive about who those sources were or what they might have told him. Ishuntal found this to be
very odd, since he was the author of this false story. Hexugar then went on to openly express his
suspicions of Ishuntal, essentially claiming Ishuntal fabricated the dream to aid the Chancellor obtain
whatever item he was looking for, which explains Hexugars reluctance to talk on what that might have
been.
This troubled Ishuntal greatly as he considered several things that might be going on. First of all, he
believed Hexugar was somehow tipped off about his true nature. The Chancellor admitted telling
members of the Chasm that the anvil story was a hoax, and so perhaps he was revealed this way. This
also meant to Ishuntal that there was the real possibility that Halifan was using Ishuntals position as a
cover for some alternate plan of his own.
In both cases, that left Ishuntal in a very precarious position. He is unsure if the Chancellor truly supports
his endeavors. In addition to this he is certain that his time within the Village is short and the
combination of the two could very well mean that he will be left out from both the Village and Chasm.
One possible plan of mitigation that Ishuntal has considered to buy himself time is to accuse Hexugar of
being the traitor. His reasons would be that Hexugar knows more than he is letting on and his
accusations against Ishuntal are a diversion to avert eyes from himself. If backed into a corner, he will
perhaps play this card, and has already suggested as much to Corlyx.
Time At An End
Added Fri Mar 7 17:11:44 2014 at level 50:
Ishuntals time in the Village has come to an end. The Commander told him that she had a dream of her
own, where she saw his face, yet it seemed sinister and undulating. Ishuntal couldnt be certain if the
dream was true, or contrived, as his was, but, it was certain that the Commander was on to him. She
behaved very suspiciously to him, telling him to call his spellbane to protect himself. When he didnt she
commented on how she never saw him do so. Ishuntal told her it was something so common she
probably just didnt pay attention to it. She wouldnt be put off so easily and challenged him to call his
spellbane before her. Ishuntal had no choice but to flash her a wicked grin, revealing his true face.
It was perhaps a good thing that this occurred as with the demise of Halifan, Ishuntal had progressed as
far as he could within the Village. Truth be told, he was glad to be rid of those magic hating barbarians.
He feels that he can accomplish what he needs from here on out from outside of the Village. For now he
hopes he can easily put his hands on the bloody head, unafraid of being revealed.
Welcomed home
Added Tue Mar 11 20:46:52 2014 at level 51:
Weeks have passed since Ishuntal was expelled from the Village. Understanding his vulnerable position,
he set to work forging new alliances with those who he thought that could be helpful. He was surprised
to find a sense of freedom in for the first time in many years, not being constrained by the ridiculous
dogma of the Battlerager Village. He also marveled at the small, but, strangely unfamiliar situations he
found himself in, such as being in the company of a mage he wasnt trying to kill.
One positive Ishuntal reveled in was being able to hunt with no restraint those foolish, misguided
protectors of the light. How many times had he wanted to snap a Paladins neck, but, didnt as it would
have been frowned upon by the Village as distractive to their war. Recently, he had just successfully
assassinated Worogha and was making his escape when he noticed he was being followed by a
nightwalker.
Ishuntal greeted the nightwalker, wondering at its purpose. The nightwalker commanded him to acquire
the bloody head from the Village and present it to the Archmage. Ishuntal did so, putting one of those
new found alliances to use, and brought the Head to the Chasm. It was then he was brought into the
fold and able to walk before the Archmage as a true Scion.
He discussed his time among the Battleragers at length with the Archmage and all that he learned over
time. The Archmage, in all his wisdom, concluded that Ishuntal, having done it before, could still
manifest the powers of the Village. It was decided that an item would need to be created, similar to the
bloody head, to channel those powers and Ishuntal was given the task of finding one who could create
such a magical item. Ishuntal agreed immediately, and began his plans on how to locate such an
individual.
