Description
You see a broad shouldered human, not quite 6 feet tall. His frame is
compact, but his movements are sure and fluid. He sports a neatly
trimmed full beard. It is mostly black, but for a few streaks of grey
in it. His hair is cropped short, and is a rich jet black except for
his temples which has faded to grey. His face is furrowed, with thin
lines between his thick eyebrows and deeper ones at his mouth. Along
with his piercing brown eyes and imposing brow, it gives a visage of
stern regard.
His robes and armor are well cared for. They are adorned with strange
runes. The smell of leather surround him, but underneath it you notice
a sulfurous aroma.
Role
Background - Synopsis
Added Tue Jun 4 11:18:18 2013 at level 11:
Israh grew up in a clan of devil worshippers in the far East, with no
knowledge of the western lands of Thera. He has been instructed by his
patron, the devil Naburus, to spread the influence of the Dire Cults
in the West. At present his only fellow cultist is his fela slave
Zadirah, who also comes from the far East.
Naburus has warned Israh that in the West Lady Voralia is the
antithesis of the Dire Cults.
Long term goal:
Establish the Dire Cults in the west (Thera), preferably as the
imperial religion.
Short term goals:
a) Become familiar with the geography and power structure of Thera.
b) Join the imperial forces and pay lip service to the current faith.
c) Find Lady Voralia, assess her influence and establish a plan for
her destruction.
d) Find a suitable place of worship for the Dire Cults - in secret
for now.
Some notes on behaviour
Added Mon Jun 10 01:34:33 2013 at level 17:
Israh is primarily motivated by fear. During his harsh upbringing he
was schooled by fear of physical punishment. As he came of age, it
became fear of the afterlife. He knows that whatever hardships he has
endured so far, they are nothing compared to an eternity in the
Inferno. He believes that Naburus will protect him in the afterlife,
but only if he, Israh, serves Lord Naburus well enough as a mortal.
Israh doesn't like surprises. He feels out of his depth here in Thera,
due to not knowing the people, the geography or the powers that be.
He is content to follow others, to observe and learn for now,
but eventually he would like to lead, so he can plan ahead.
Israh strives to be honest and will commit to his word. Therefore he
prefers straight deals with a firm wording, whether it be goods for
gold or one task for another. He is very conscious of meeting his
obligations.
Update - Events
Added Mon Jun 10 01:37:50 2013 at level 17:
Israh has not heard from his patron in some time, when the reason came
to him in a dream.
Lord Naburus is trapped! The thought is terrifying to Israh, but
fortunately he is still allowed to draw upon a small measure of his
patron's power. Israh will continue to spread the word of Lord
Naburus, even though he himself can no longer hear his voice.
Planning to join the imperial ranks in order to get a foot hold in the
west, Israh has learned of the blood oath all who is part of the
Empire must commit to. This troubles him greatly as he feels it
conflicts with his service to Lord Naburus. He has thus postponed
taking the oath for now, unsure of what action he should take.
(Notice: Israh has no trouble praising people or powers obviously
higher in the hierarchy than himself. That is the only sensible and
proper thing to do do.)
Events II
Added Mon Jul 8 07:08:21 2013 at level 33:
Israh has bid Zadirah enlist as an imperial spy. Based on her
experiences Israh himself has taken the bloodoath. He knows that there
eventually will be a conflict of interest between the Emperor, high
priest and Lord Naburus, but so far the former are very slack in their
demands. A little gold and flattery have been enough to sate them.
Israh has met with Voralia. She is beautiful and full of power, likely
to sway lesser men to her cause. Knowing that direct confrontation
with her is beyond him for now, Israh is plotting a way to attack her
indirectly, perhaps by slander, perhaps by destroying her apprentices.
Naburus is still trapped in the city of Woe, but he has managed to
possess a foolish gnomish conjurer. Unfortunately, an archon allied
with Voralia has twarthed his possession, so that the gnome still has
some free will left. Israh is determined to find the conjurer, and aid
Naburus as he best can.
Having merely heralding the coming of Lord Naburus, Israh has
begun to initiate a few imperials in the way of the Dire Cults.
The Quest for the Infernal Codex.
Added Fri Aug 16 14:41:17 2013 at level 41:
Israh has been tasked to author an unholy codex of the Powers of the
Inferno and the Abyss. In it every powerful devil and demon that is
an archtype of mortal sin and the (appropriate) lesser virtues should
be recorded that their names be known to mortal followers. Thus the
codex shall form the basis of the creed of the Dire Cults.
At the moment Israh only knows of his Lord Naburus and the demon
Zurcon. Thus he has begun to quest for Infernal lore that he may
learn more.
He is considering contacting the Scions of Eternal Night,
believing them to have important knowledge. However, as
they are anathema to the Empire, it is a delicate matter, which
must be handled very carefully.
The emmissary of the Inferno was not clear on when the quest must be
done. Israh has given himself 10 years to complete the task.
Politics and duties
Added Fri Aug 16 14:42:04 2013 at level 41:
13 years have passed since Israh came to the West as a youth. More
than half of that time has been spent among the imperials and recently
Israh was rewarded for his service with the office of High Priest.
The giant Merf has become Emperor. Israh has never met him, and Merf's
imperial commands do not conflict with Naburus' plans, so Israh enjoys
his freedom. He finds the politics of the council demanding and a little
daunting and prefers to focus on spiritual matters.
Now he can preach of Naburus openly and advance the influence of the
Dire Cults. However, he has found himself rather busy with defending
both his person and the imperial premises. He takes pride in
fulfilling his imperial duties, time consuming as they may be. He has not
forgotten his quest, though.
