Description

You are looking at what is obviously a very mangled individual. Bandages coat various parts of her body, a large amount of them bound and hanging off of her right arm. Where her dark skin is visible beneath her robes, you catch sight of numerous markings: hundreds of cut marks along her wrists and forearms, skin that looks boiled in patches on her upper arms and lower legs, and a plethora of various scars that appear from scratching, piercing, cutting, burning, and many others hardly as easily identified. The most obvious of all of her markings is around her neck, where there is a thick patch of scarring that follows around the entirety of her neck, which resembles a wound you might see on someone freshly garroted. Her clothing is dark, mainly loose robes and cloth, which drapes about her and flutters freely at any passing breeze. Her face, generally shadowed by her hood, matches the condition of her body, thin scars coating most of its surface. Apart from her robes, she has a number of small satchels and sacks. One of these sacks, while lumpy at first glance, obviously hold a number of books. Another, which doesn't look as packed, lets off an obvious smell of exotic herbs. The belt about her waist is a bit interesting, and is something obviously not meant to be stylish. It has a number of small pockets, from which the heads of vials poke out, and there are quite a number of them.

Role

The light

Added Sun Feb 5 07:31:47 2012 at level 3:
She stumbled down the passageways in the Underdark, steadily losing blood.
Her hands grasped more and more at the jagged walls around her as her vision
continued to fade. The more she moved, the more blood she lost, and her
increasing heaviness of breath showed that her situation was getting worse
and worse.

"She went this way!" a patroller's shout echoed from behind her.
"Not.like.this." she thought, continuing her unguided and desperate rush
forward - whichever way forward was. "Musn'tlet my body.give out on me
yet".

Her vision faded to black.

In the blackness she saw a shape. A small light, shimmering, like a
candlelight in the dead of night. She dashed for the light, but seemed to get
no closer. She tried to look at it, to figure out what it was, but a hazy fog
interrupted her vision anytime she stared directly at it. Like a teasing
whore, a treasure seen locked away, a trophy held up in the hands of your
rival - This light was something she wanted, it was something she need to
know, to explore, and to solve. She made another desperate leap at the light,
but just as her hand was about to close around her prize, she awoke.

She was beside a river. She grimaced as she sat up, placing a hand on her
chest as a reaction to the pain. Her body was covered in bandages, all of her
wounds dressed and cleaned. Unsure of what river this was, and intent on
discovering her location, she slowly wobbled around the area, looking for
landmarks.

She didn't have to look far. Through some brush nearby she could see the
massive city of Voralia.

The Exchange of Information: What is true, and what is it worth?

Added Sun Feb 5 07:33:08 2012 at level 3:
A year or so after somehow surviving her flight from the Underdark, Iussuni
was reaching moderate success in the over-world.

She was profiting, more or less, from lies. She took the position of
information broker, offering secrets and knowledge to those with the money to
pay for it. While the position, in itself, is entirely legitimate - Iussuni
was not. Out of the hundreds who had paid her for her knowledge, she had
answered honestly perhaps only once, and that was a coincidence. As her
wealth grew, so did her client base. She was contacted, not just by
individuals searching for a lost family member or for a dark secret about a
rival, but by business's trying to get the upper hand in their trade. She
knew that people wanted the truth - after all, that is why they came to her -
but she knew that the truth was something malleable, and something entirely
unidentifiable when placed among a number of ideas. People didn't care,
truly, if what they heard was true - only if it was what they wanted, or if
it settled their mind, or if it offered hope.

When a human came to her, offering all the gold in his pocket, to know where
his "long lost brother" had disappeared to, Iussuni could answer without much
difficulty (after pretending to rifle through paperwork) that he had traveled
far east, near Arkham, to seek his fortune. But that his situation was a dire
one, and it would be difficult for the man to make contact with him. You
would think, being as the human was curious, that he would press for more
information. It's true, some would, but when you attach a coin value to it -
when you place a stipulation with the truth, people are quick to accept and
slow to evaluate. Surely, since he paid gold for it, it was just information.
Surely, since he had wanted to know SO badly, badly enough to risk his
miniscule fortune, the truth would come to him - After all, isn't that
'fair'? It is only just that those who want, get, right?

Naivety.

She didn't need to worry about 'angry' customers either, given that the
answers she provided were vague enough to satisfy, and the specifics always
somehow ended up being just above what the customer was willing to pay. They
don't care about truth or knowledge, just momentary satisfaction.

Thoughts of light and death.

Added Sun Feb 5 07:34:11 2012 at level 3:
She quit her job as an information broker. Her reason behind leaving her job
is something she laughs at herself for. Because she wants to look into the
truth.

Recently she had been having dreams about that light, the one that appeared
to her after she fainted in the Underdark. That light. That something. It was
begging to be grasped at. It called for her to understand it. Maybe it was an
actual thing, some sort of demon or devil finding its way into her
unconscious, or perhaps it was a manifestation of 'truth' or 'knowledge'. No
matter the result, the act of understanding it is something she desperately
craved.

The reason this is amusing, of course, is considering how many times she has
fed lies to those coming to her for the truth. She, a weaver of falsities,
expects some 'truth' to be revealed to her.

What about that light, then, is so entrancing to her? When she thinks about
it, generally after waking from a dream in which it simply sits before her,
she considers when she experienced it. Death. When she was half-dead. Perhaps
it was a vision only available to those 'between worlds', or perhaps only to
the dead themselves. After this revelation, she had some ideas on how to come
closer to the light.

These ideas, hopefully, would prove close to fatal.

An amateur's first experiment. Trial and error.

Added Sun Feb 5 07:35:29 2012 at level 3:
She tightened the rope around her neck after tying it to a weak branch above
her. The rope, as well, was less than perfect. Exactly what she wanted. She
slowly let herself down from her position in the tree until the rope was taut
and her legs would obviously still be an inch or two above the ground. She
then let herself go.

Her body immediately reacted, grasping at the rope around her neck and
tugging to no avail. Her dark face slowly embraced a red hue, and her arms
and legs started jerking in random spasms. The branch above her creaked
beneath her weight. And again, as before, her vision went black.

She could see it clearly now, just as she had before. It was floating in the
distance, the only bright dot among this void in which she was present. All
other directions were the same, a deep blackness with no differing colors or
hues, pure void. She tried to force herself to float closer to the light, and
though whether she moved or not was impossible to tell, the light seemed
closer than before. Still, anytime she looked directly at it she could not
make out the shape within - It seemed to have some sort of shifting shroud or
veil that purposefully interrupted her vision. She reached out her hand,
urging it to grasp further - and awoke.

She was on her back on the ground, it was night time now. The noose was still
around her neck, but the branch above her was no longer part of the tree, but
rather splintered and shattered on the ground beside her. "My head.", she
groaned, rubbing her temples. Her voice came out ragged, as if she had a bad
cough. She traced her fingers along the deep indention around her neck.

"I need to get closer"

Piercing the shroud

Added Sat Feb 11 15:49:01 2012 at level 8:
Iussuni had come to the library of Hamsah Mu'Tazz in hopes of finding some
sort of information about dying. She chose this library given its proximity
to the scholars of Eternal Night, and its nearness to The Oryx Steppes, a
famed place known for its peculiarities. Mages of Hamsah Mu'Tazz tended to be
more likely to choose the 'socially unacceptable' practices, so Iussuni was
counting on finding some sort of long-forgotten scroll, or little known tome
that might give her further direction for her research into her studies.

While deeply absorbed in a small book about contacting spirits, Iussuni was
interrupted by a strange looking man that she didn't notice walk up.

"You won't find what you need in there..." the man coughed as he spoke, his
face entirely covered by the shadows of his robe, his voice sounded feeble
and he looked almost sickly.
"Oh, really, and you know what I'm looking for?" Iussuni decided to play
along. The poor of Hamsah's streets could be amusing, even if they were
delusional.
"No, I don't know what you're looking for, but I know you're looking. I don't
know what you want, either, I don't care, but I know what you need." His
voice was suddenly powerful, with focus and clarity, hardly the same voice
that spoke only moments ago.
"Very clever, old ma-"
"Quiet yourself. There are times to speak and there are times to learn. You
seek secrets, the knowledge hidden in the deepest shadows of the world. This
is where He is. He is the only place you will find what you are looking for.
Speak his name in the shadows: Reksah."
Before Iussuni could answer, the man was gone. He wasn't 'gone' in the sense
that he walked away, he simply ceased to exist. He hadn't uttered a spell,
made any peculiar movements, or quaffed a potion. He was simply gone.

She found only one piece of information about Reksah in the library, which
was a footnote in a book called 'Entities to Avoid', and all that was written
under his name was "The Eye in the Darkness".

Iussuni had vibrant dreams that night, picturing massive quantities of
information opening to her - things that many would seek for their entire
lives but never have. She knew she could obtain what others only dreamed of.

Reksah was what she would seek, then. If he held the answers, or even better
- the questions, then she would do seek an audience with him.

Whispers

Added Tue Feb 14 15:36:42 2012 at level 14:
What is a whisper?
Something softly spoken.
How powerful is a whisper?
More powerful than a yell.

Many people, warriors are the primary targets here, don't understand the
power of a whisper. A yell echoes after shouted, starting as a blaringly
clear message and quickly bouncing around into a hushed unintelligible noise.
A whisper does not echo - Only the one intended to hear it does. But its
effect is unparallel.

From a whisper a man can be made or ruined. It is the whispers of fortune
that send a man tumbling towards fate as mercenaries. Whispers of power that
bring young magi to their craft. Whispers of safety that bring men to
Magistrates.

A whisper inspires. It is something that, when heard, makes us 'want'. If I
were to tell someone that "There is a pile of 32 coins on the other side of
the hill, exactly 32 coins and you will get two scratched knees on the way
there" - The person becomes disinterested in it. There is no revelation to
be had, no lingering need for discovery, no longer any want to covet the gold
and keep it his own.

What you say is this: "Something was gleaming in the grass over that
hill...."
Give him no more, but give him less if you can. This will pique his interest.
This statement that leaves something to be desired, leaves the person wanting
to know more. This is where they well press you "What do you think it was?
How much of it? Was it gold? Was it a blade?". The desire for this knowledge
comes from having only a taste of it.

Think of it like giving a small piece of a cookie to a child. Give them a
piece and their mouth waters for more, they want the experience of the full
meal. Give them the whole thing and the cookie is no longer valuable, no
longer wanted, they are content in their gluttony. They have eaten, and will
not want to eat until the hunger strikes again.

This is how mysteries work with men.
Just a whisper.
And I will whisper to each and every one of them.

What am I worth? What is in a name?

Added Tue Feb 14 15:38:22 2012 at level 14:
He asked me what I had interesting in my pockets. Like a child, he wanted to
know what intriguing or valuable things I had on hand.

I offered him what I had: My life.

It's not interesting now. It won't be for some time. But the investment is
worth it. I think He saw this. He wouldn't have let me taste a bit of his
power, just a small whisper of it. Enough to have me lingering, wanting,
needing more of it. It is ecstatic confusion.

Am I worth it then? I can't ask myself that. I know I am. But He, how could
He know? Maybe he doesn't. It could just be a game of amusement. If I fail to
interest him, he ends me, giving him the amusement he wanted in the first
place. I love the way it strikes fear in me. I missed this desperate feeling
of pushing forward.

He took a taste of my life. I felt him inside of me (how jealous the whores
must be). Consider how our meeting went. I came to him healthy, needy, and
asking. I left him weakened, plagued, and burdened - But empowered. Being
near him at all has this strange effect, as if he is inside of your mind,
eating all you know, seeing all of your secrets. It is the strangest feeling
- even a knight, drenched in armor, would feel naked at a glance from Him.

I know what I must do, though, as dull as it is. If I am to bring him
amusement, I must first bring myself some power. I need fools to trust me, to
listen to me. I need knowledge and association at my fingertips. I think I'll
go speak to Rindros, soon enough. He may offer a way to solve this problem,
in exchange for...Services rendered.

He.

I am hesitant to speak his name, and it has not yet passed my lips. I don't
think I'm worthy, yet, to openly say a word with such power. The feeling I
had when he touched me, it was amazing. It was as if you were thrown into a
library - everything tossed from the shelves, pages flying through the air
around you, books opened to every page scattered across the ground. All of
this information, all of the secrets swirling nearby, but without any
organization - Impossible to decipher at a glance. That is what he gave me.
Just a glance. It was a whisper. And how dearly I want more. What I would do
to spend time locked inside of that library, devouring those secret sources
of information, and how pleasantly I would twist their shape to present them
to others. Enough so that they want it as well, so that they will offer
themselves to me or Him, in exchange for a taste of that knowledge held just
out of reach.

Magic and Iussuni

Added Mon Mar 12 14:04:49 2012 at level 32:
With Iussuni's dedication to magic and information, some might consider
asking her "Why not magic? Why not use spells to achieve your goals, to be a
student of the classic dark arts with the potential to advance them further?
Why study the regenerative arts?"

It isn't as simple as "Iussuni chose not to", or that she isn't good at magic
(she could learn minor spells, no doubt, if she had the right tomes), but
rather an answer of inspiration. Similar to how one who survives a near death
experience and wishes to, from then on, devote their life to good - She has,
from her experience, been inspired to devote her life to herself and to the
energies she felt in her otherworldly moment.

She considers herself a channeler. Mages, on one hand, have to utter a word
of command, perform gestures, draw out symbols, and so forth - All of these
are not to be underestimated, and are sources of great power, but Iussuni
considers her art as a close comrade to the study of magic. A mage, through
the sacrifice of mana, can expend energy to cause change in their
environment. Iussuni, through her attachment to the Eye, can do similar. The
difference is this: The mage does not often get the experience of being 'one
with magic'. They typically are in control of it, briefly if at all, and see
rather than experience the manifestation of its power. Iussuni is one with
her craft. She, when closing her eyes, can feel the power of the Eye and
darkness inside of her. These things reside within her, requiring no chant,
spell, or dance to summon. She is, herself, the gateway to power. This is not
to say that mages are forever barred from experiencing magic in such an
intimate way - As some invokers do learn to adapt the elemental planes to
their own body, reaching a demi-elemental transcendence. While Iussuni would
say that most mages cannot experience the direct and inner power of darkness
and knowledge as she can, it would be ignorant to say that mages are
inhibited by anything other than their own fears and uncertainties - and if
any mage dedicated their entire soul to it, they might be lucky enough to
reach her level.

Companions, servants, rivals.

Added Fri Mar 16 15:14:16 2012 at level 34:
On the subject of servants.

I am often asked "Will you travel with me, Iussuni?". It is understandable,
as I know how valuable I am. But I refuse most of these offers, not on the
basis of pure disinterest, though it may play a part, but on the idea of
reciprocation. These people want me with them so they can succeed. I can
understand that desire, I even relate to it. But the question is, of course,
why should they succeed? What makes their achievement worthwhile to me?

The answer is simple. My gain. I will join those only who benefit me. A gift,
service, or gain on some part might be attractive enough for them to be
granted temporary company with me. Only unique individuals would be provided
anything further.

What, then, makes an ideal companion for myself? I would say those that
aren't a threat. A threat intellectually, not physically. I am wary of those
who share similar interests as me - imagine what would occur if we both, as a
union, happened upon some extremely valuable information. The fact that it is
shared between us lessens both its value and my control. I am hesitant, then,
to share a journey with someone of rival mental interests unless they are
essential - as obtaining information with someone is better than obtaining
none at all. And after all, even if they share my concerns of knowledge, I
can distort the events or feign disinterest with them enough to hold them at
bay. If anything, perhaps I could pick their brain for more, with them
leaving it naively open, thinking that I am but a fool. This is a tangent,
though, and can be pondered more later.

The ideal companion is a fool. Not a fool in that he holds ideals contrary to
my own, like one of the Fortress, but rather one who does not think nor cares
to. An orc. A fire giant. A large shield of meat that obeys and doesn't ask
many questions. The type that I could hold an ancient scroll in front of
without them even trying to read it, instead asking "Where next thing me
gunna smash?".

Those are what I need. And, so far, Miczariel's hunger has proven a good
tool. He is a fire giant of the Chasm, and one I would consider an ideal
tool.

My success, enlightenment, and goal

Added Fri Mar 16 15:16:06 2012 at level 34:
I have been welcomed into the Chasm, whereas before I was an applicant - I am
now a known scholar.

The process was amusing, given my efficiency and presence. The new Chancellor
had written out to the various applicants, myself included, requesting their
research intents and methods as to evaluate them. Before attempting to
respond, I saw an opportunit: The Chancellor wished to get that ancient
Ccul'Gra relic, the circlet of living shadows.

What better showing would there be for a young one like myself. I offered
myself to his journey, which two others took part in (I'll need to remember
Falkaine. He seems to have too much riding on my fate). Given I am not even
near the pinnacle of my guild, yet I was essential to the adventure's success
- it is obvious why the Chancellor wasted no time, inducting me immediately.
All it took him was a glimpse of my potential, which that journey provided,
and he knew what I might be worth.

Further, since I didn't have to open up my research without a return payment,
I was able to keep more of my knowledge to myself. And now that I am already
labeled among the Chancellor's scholars, I do not need to attempt to impress
him with my work. He will get his reports and minor understandings, but the
results and specificities will be mine and mine alone.

He will want more, though. They all will. My potential will be further
noticed, and in time they will all come to me for answers.

Still, with this step I will present myself, again, into the gaze of the Eye.

The last time he and I spoke, I was but an investment. A petty little nave
thing asking for a glimpse of the sacred, asking to borrow power from the
profane, and it was very peculiar he did not immediately destroy me. Still, I
think he knew what I was worth at the time, and he did take the risk. From
his power he wanted amusement, and I think he has, and will continue, to have
it. He gave me but a whisper, a sliver of power, and look what I have done
with it. I am now known, dressed in armors some dream of merely seeing,
having slayed the Nightmare Dragon with but one other, mastering the depths
of Glymarach's Prison, voyaging through the mysteries of Trothon, and having
almost solved the puzzles of Enpolad's Garden.

He planted a seed, and now he will see it bloomed.
I can only hope he is pleased.

The Chancellor's Goal

Added Thu Mar 29 13:43:25 2012 at level 35:
"The Chancellor needs me for something, a unique piece of a 'puzzle' he
mentioned, and nobody else" Iussuni originally thought, at the beckoning of
Narissorin. This was going to be something unique, especially since it was
meant only for her, and not even another soul within the circle of the Scion
was supposed to hear about it. At first it sounded delightful - a secret
between the Chancellor and herself, some sort of request that makes him even
more dependent on her.
Then the explanation came, and Iussuni was anything but pleased.
"My research?" she thought, "He's using MY research!". This wasn't spoken in
adoration, praise, or even wonder - but pure and vicious anger. Narissorin's
idea, as he explained to her, was to come as close to absolute death as
possible to attempt to gain something out of the 'brink' (as he described
it). "He thinks he can call MY void a 'brink' or a 'precipice' and pretend it
is meant for his exploration? Hardly". Iussuni was filled with a mixture of
disgust and anger, with numerous vengeful thoughts flashing through her mind.

"I'm to pull him back from it so he doesn't die, am I? Perhaps it is better
to let it take him and devour him whole. He isn't meant for it anyway. A
mage, he may be, but this requires someone with the ability to channel the
dark energies that it possesses, to become a conduit for it rather than a
master of it. Perhaps it is better to let him die, feign that I will assist
him, and instead push him over the ledge into the darkness. If he wants what
is mine so badly, let him become part of it - so later I can feast upon his
power as well".

But for the time being, she did as she had to, she agreed to his request. A
"No" could banish her from where her research flourishes most, within the
Chasm of the Scion, but a "Yes" at least provides opportunity: to assist or
deceive. But what to do, she wondered, and had not reached a decision yet.
This was something she greatly wished to inquire about with her lord, Reksah,
since no doubt he could forge more amusing ideas than Iussuni ever could.

Still, what of the benefits? Perhaps, given that Narissorin does not have
enough power to control the potential energies within, the journey and
experiment would do nothing but benefit Iussuni. It could be for the better,
then, since perhaps his brief glimpse into the unknown would be nothing in
comparison to what she could reach later. So much to ponder, so little time.

The Chancellor's Goal, and mine.

Added Tue Apr 10 17:45:13 2012 at level 46:
Narissorin has proven to be more...Intelligent than I gave him credit for. This
revelation comes from him 'opening up', a bit. It's delightful when someone
vulnerably opens up their mind to you - like a buffet, but you never get
full.

He seems to understand something, though, and that is the important thing. We
spoke of ancient magic, specifically around a character he met recently:
Davarrah the Ravenous. A curious thing, she is, and she seems to have not
only piqued his interest, but entertained and benefitted him somehow. In
speaking about it, he referenced Reksah in a way very familiar to me. Like a
drug or a delicious meal; where just a smell or small taste of it leaves you
craving for more. It was interesting to hear him relate to me, but I suppose
the Chasm attracts those like us. This is relevant, as it may make me more
willing to assist him in his upcoming venture into the brink.

Davarrah is something I wish to address more though. I know little of her..or
itWhatever she wishes to be known as. But I know some she relates to, and
these I will be seeking out at some point: Kaubris, Chryseis, Chabriri, and
Xaelobran. Kaubris, at minimum, is known for his greed of knowledge and
seeming aggressive nature towards magi who wish to learn his secrets. I think
I pose a better chance of 'opening' him up, since I am no mage. I pose no
direct threat to him, in terms of rivalry in magic. Simply not being a rival
isn't enough to make individuals as legendary as these share their wealth of
knowledge, though, no. Perhaps I can find a way to appease or entertain them
enough in exchange for information. There is no immediacy in this, but this
will be private research of mine that I will share with no one, not even the
Chancellor, until I figure out what the gains may be.

At current, my strength has gained further. The Eye has opened himself a bit
more to me, and I feel even more of his power channeling through my entire
being. I don't see why someone would indulge themselves endlessly in poppy
and the like when such an opening for power and pleasure exists - with only a
small price: your soul.

As Chancellor Narissorin requested, I have been engaged in practicing the
revival of the near-dead. My best patient, thus far, is a sylph in the
emerald forest. She has been tied up to an altar for quite some time, making
the dissection of her (as well as the mutilating of her physical form) very
convenient. I have succeeded in leaving her just almost dead and bringing her
back numerous times, but there is one important thing. Beings have different
capabilities and essences. Narissorin could last much longer than this Sylph,
near death. He also might last shorter if he is not at full strength. This is
a variable I must be very careful with. Listen to me...Sounding almost sure
I'll help him. We'll see.

The Chasm's Failure + Thoughts - Part 1

Added Tue May 15 14:47:45 2012 at level 49:
Failure. The scent of it permeated the entire Chasm after Narissorin's
ritual, and it disgusted Iussuni.

The attempt was interesting at first, and all seemed well planned. The relics
were provided, the mages competent, and the stars spoke of dark omens - all
things pointed to the direction of success.

Even so, while Narissorin flailed on the ground after losing blood, clutching
at Iussuni's cloak, and even while she stabbed him in the stomach with a
knife - nothing changed. He was restored, the shadows departed, and
everything stayed the same. Stagnation. If there is any sin for a scholar, it
is this. Iussuni never considered sloth a sin, sloth was simple laziness -
but it did not mean one couldn't covet. Stagnation on the other hand was
weakness; it was when a mage (or any other scholar) sat in their own filth so
long that things became static. There is no more learning or discovering, no
more revelations, only fools reveling within the 'now' that never changes for
positive or negative.

What was it that caused the failure, then? If all spoke of success, what was
lacking. Even the Queen of Gluttony herself seemed to have no answer at the
time, not that she would share it if she would. Instead she attempted to
seduce Reksah's form, undulating her 'treasures' in an attempt to get him to
delve into her 'secrets'. Iussuni could not decide which was more amusing:
these attempts at seducing the shadows themselves, or Reksah's quiet melding
back into the darkness. Iussuni might have done the same, had she the skill
to, to escape the hungry gaze of the Queen.

So, again, what was missing? Iussuni, when asked for her advice by the
Chancellor, gave a simple answer: "Understanding". It was a whisper of a
word, enough to urge him from stagnation, to make him want what he could not
grasp once more. It seemed to work. He became interested. From this thought
came the natural course of speculation: "The statue and portal must not be a
two-way street, but rather (as the statue implies) something that brings
things into this world but does not take them out. As such, one cannot reach
the shadows through it, but rather beckon SOMETHING from it. But what?".

The Chasm's Failure + Thoughts - Part 2

Added Tue May 15 14:48:22 2012 at level 49:
The Chancellor's thoughts were better on this than on his failure. Sulking on
failure does nothing. It just makes the stench of it all the stronger around
one's self. What would his plans be now? Iussuni whispered more to him as
they sat within the shadows of Morton. Enough to make him want and wonder,
but not to know: "Davarrah", she said. She briefly mentioned other strange
beings (she would not call them mortals or humans until more was known) like
Kaubris and his angle-ringed companions. Davarrah was the key, but to what
door? The hunger was visible in the Chancellor's eyes as she spoke.

It was funny, his hatred of Drow. He says he hates them, even that he hates
Iussuni (when his mood is especially dark), yet when she speaks he listens.
When he does not know, it is she he asks. When he wants, she is the channel
by which he gets. But, well as he knows, as long as he delves within the
shadows, and as long as Iussuni channels her (and Reksah's) energy into him -
there will always be a little bit of Iussuni in Narissorin. A pleasing
thought, one that might disgust him, but was amusing all the same.

After his failure of the ritual, where Miczariel's soul was consumed by
whatever energies resided in that dark place, Reksah spoke. This was
something he did not do often, and even less often did he present his
physical form to do so. A true omen. One that spoke of shadows and
corruption. "Take the Fetish from the Outlanders" he said. And it was done -
Iussuni was the first to their leafy doorstep. When Reksah grasped the Fetish
in his hands, something happened. The Prosimy Forest around them went quiet,
the light seemed to recede, and even Iussuni shuddered slightly. What he did
was unknown, Reksah did not explain it to even the Chancellor who stood
before him. It was a whisper of power, of some dark act, of abominations that
might fill the future - All of these things were good, and it sparked
something within those who witnessed it.

What comes, Iussuni doesn't know, but she looks forward to entertaining these
mysteries, as well as finally finding more results for her research.
Narissorin's failure was but another closed door to Iussuni reaching the void
that she desires so badly. To grasp that element of power outside of mortal
reach. Since his failure, her staged suicide attempts because twice as often
- leaving her more bandaged and scarred than usual, but perhaps this was her
way of coping with, or escaping the idea of a dead end.

Tiamat and the essence of a black dragon

Added Tue May 15 14:49:32 2012 at level 49:
The Scions had attempted to slay Tiamat. The attempt ended in death for most
of them, except Iussuni, she was cunning enough to avoid the dragon's gaze as
her companions were torn apart. Even so, they had succeeded in slaying each
of the other ancient dragons.

While this sounds rather bland and without note, one thing curious occurred
during their adventures.

The Black Dragon's lair, swampy and acidic, was one of the easier lairs for
the group. The dragon's half-orc pets, its assassin, even its elemental
guardians all fell easily beneath the assaults from Falkaine and the others.
Once the ancient black dragon itself had fallen, Iussuni's companions took a
moment to celebrate - but she was concentrating on something else. A circular
essence, flaring with dark energy, sitting on the ground where the dragon had
been only hours before. Picking it up, she felt it flare beneath her fingers.
It was powerful, and its essence seemed to seek out her own as she held it.
Closing her eyes, she let her mind drift into the essence in an attempt to
identify what it held, but all she felt were grasping hands - some sort of
dark energy pleading to enter her body. Smirking as she held the object, she
contemplated the results of such an experiment may be:

"Curious, it is. The essence is reacting to me, but why and to what end? I
can feel that it is dark, yes, similar to my own soul, but it
feels.Helpless. As if it needs me. The feeling within it is grasping, like a
drowned man to driftwood. Perhaps it is scared. Regardless, what could I do
with such a relic. What might occur if I let it have me. True, I could lose
my mind, or my soul, if it overpowers me - but given its helplessness I doubt
it could. This hesitation of mine is pointless - I am a scholar, and I will
dive into the dark where none have gone before."

And with that final thought, Iussuni brought the essence to her mouth and
swallowed it. There was a brief moment of pain, a spasm as she felt the
essence tie into her own soul, but a period of extreme bliss followed. She
could feel the power of the black dragon rushing through her, its essence
dancing around her own soul like a moth to flame. It was a kindred spirit,
she felt, and it knew she (and only she) could channel it into Thera. After
all, this is what she was. A channeler of the darkness. Later that day, while
she was practicing the art of flaying on a few gnomes, she felt the essence
burst from her towards her victim - it seemed to grasp for his very soul, the
sudden flux of dark energy killing the man immediately.

And thus it came, the gasp of the black dragon. Darkness wants darkness, and
she would let it flow through her.
