Description

Jaegrudai's eyes still hold the passionate fervor of youth. The brilliant gray-blue spheres sparkle like gems in water. They are alert eyes set below a narrowed brow. The years have made Jaegrudai wary, and he seems to constantly take in his surroundings. With his chin held high he grips his weapon in sure and ready hands. His hands seem to know the weapon, Order's Star, like an old and faithful companion. The mace, though well maintained shows unmistakable signs of battle wear. Jaegrudai himself shows these same signs of wear. Numerous scars proudly adorn his chiseled face. The very tip of his ear is missing and his gnarled fingers appear to have been broken around his weapons hilt many times. There is a slow way about him, when he's not in combat, that hints at many shattered bones. This grizzled dwarf has seen many battles, but from the look of Pride on his face he has won most of them. Jaegrudai's armor is perfectly maintained. It has been buffed to a mirror shine, and reflects the light around him almost as if to make it appear that he's in an aura of light. When he sorts through his belongings it's clear that everything is kept in perfect order. His fiery red hair has begun to gray a bit at the temples, and the soft braids of his beard hold the same gray and fire. Both his thick hair and soft beard appear meticulously maintained. The mark of the Ki-rin is tattooed brightly on his upper arm, identifying the cause for the Pride in his appearance.

Role

The Grul Dai Order

Grul Dai History

The Grul Dai have a history as old as the first Dwarves. These dwarves were
Orderly berserkers regarded highly by their fellows throughout dwarven
history. They believed then, as they do now, that the state of Berserking
(referred to as the Dorden) was a tool to be used in any endeavor. While the
art of Berserking had its birthplace on the battlefield, these Orderly
dwarves transformed it into a deeper way of life. It is said that the Grul
Dai would enter the state of Dorden while smithing, mining, brewing or any
other physical task. The Grul Dai Dwarves would produce amazing results
during these sessions, though few understood how or why. Eventually the Order
of Grul Dai decided to live apart from civilization, and sought a new home
north of the Blight where they could practice their craft in seclusion. The
reason for this move is no longer remembered.

Facets of the Grul Dai

1) Order

The Grul Dai value Order and methodology above all else. This is the secret
to their strength, and to the Dorden (Berserking State.) The Grul Dai make
everything Ordered in their lives. They analyze and categorize everything to
the finest detail. Each dwarf becomes a master of the methods of their craft.
Warriors practice set movements, counters, and counters to counters until the
Order of the techniques roots itself deep within the mind of user. The same
is true for artisans and craftsman. Thus when the rage, passion and pride
that are the Dorden enter the Berserker, the Berserker moves with flawless,
unthinking method. Order must be practiced, lived, and practiced and lived
again so that when Chaos comes, the Order takes over out of instinct.

2) Passion, Pride, Rage - The Berserker State

The Berserking skill of warriors is nothing compared to the deep Fury of the
Grul Dai Order. While in the state of Dorden a Grul Dai Berserker pays no
mind to pain, exhaustion, hunger or thirst. He is stronger, and can
accomplish more because he has used the fire in his heart to snuff out the
voice of his mind. This is why Order and method are so vital. If not for
Order and method a Grul Dai in the Dorden would be as unfocused as a blood
thirsting Rager.

3) Morality and Responsibility

Grul Dai carry with them the inherent goodness of the dwarves. They believe
that they are set above the normal man, and thus have a responsibility to
help and protect others. Grul Dai believe that Evil brings Chaos, and many
are ardent fighters against the Shadow. One of the Grul Dai order will not
allow the chaos of deception, dishonor, greed, lust, envy, boastfulness,
fornication or any other mortal sin be any part of their lives.

Grul Dai and the Law

Added Thu Dec 18 15:43:39 2003 at level 1:
Grul Dai obey the law, barring certain circumstances. At times it may be
necessary to protect a victim from a criminal, even breaking the law to do
so. If attacked in town a Grul Dai will slay the lawbreaker even if chase is
required. The law should not be abused by anyone, lawman or citizen alike. If
a Grul Dai believes an evil man is hiding behind the law, he will not
hesitate to visit death upon him. If a cowardly darkfriend seeks to flee and
hide behind the Law, the Law can not be allowed to be a protector of Evil.

Jaegrudai's Origins

Added Thu Dec 18 15:45:16 2003 at level 1:
Jaegrudai

Jaegrudai was trained by the Grul Dai Order as a boy. He was learning to be a
fighter, and on a training mission into the Blight he and his fellows became
lost. His friends fell, and Jaegrudai was badly injured. A gracious ranger
picked the unconscious, young dwarf up and carried him to safety. The ranger
assumed that Jaegrudai was from Akan, and left him upon the Ancient Road
where passerbies might find him. Once he recovered Jaegrudai discovered that
he could not return home, for the even Blight was inaccessible from the
southern side.

Determined not to let this be the end of him he decides to live a life
befitting one of the Grul Dai Order in this new land. He wishes to continue
training as a fighter, but finds the warrior guild to be lacking in moral
quotient. He seeks the guild of Paladins, and is happy to speak with the
guild master there. The guild master tells him two important things. One,
that if he is to train with the paladins, he must act as a paladin and adhere
strictly to the Paladins Code. Secondly, he tells him that he must become
empowered by the gods. Jaegrudai agrees to these two things readily.

Empowerment

Added Thu Dec 18 15:47:03 2003 at level 1:
Empowerment

Grul Dai value Order above all else, and thus when seeking empowerment
Jaegrudai seeks to find a god of Order. However the only god of Order with
the power to empower is Lord Khasotholas. Since Jaegrudai is sickened by
evil, he will not associate with it and certainly would not follow a god who
IS evil. Because of this Jaegrudai seeks any god of the Light who wishes to
test his faith in Order.
