Description
A rather modest light skinned elven woman is before you. She wears her light
auburn hair in a tumbled freefall that cascades down past her shoulders, kept
from her eyes by a thin crimson ribbon, while the points of her ears can
still be seen. Her eyes are rather narrow, but their deep blue color is
readily apparent. A faint smile seems ever present on her face. Her body and
movements make evident her elven heritage, and a thin slit in her blouse
allows a small necklace with a crescent sapphire set in onyx to be seen
resting between the crest of her breasts. Each aspect of her attire seems
well worn, but cared for, and seems to fit loosely enough to allow her to
move without restriction.

Soul Tending

"Why are they fighting each other mother?"
"I can not say what their reason may be Jaelynn, but it is not for us to
concern ourselves with."
She looked away from the battling humans below them over at her mother in
that moment, only to see her humming a faint melody as she watched the fray.
Such was the prelude to a song she well knew, for she had heard her mother
sing it often. Jaelynn looked down to them, trying to understand.
There were five of them in total, four all trading blows against a lone
figure clad in an array of silvery armors, though from the numerous wounds
and blood pools, the four were faring worse than the one. She knew of many
races in Thera, but few puzzled her as often as the humans.
With one word, there was a magnificent flash of light, and it ended. Four
bodies, being rapidly consumed by whitish flames were on the ground. The
living human knelt, mouth going over words she could not hear from her
vantage. He rose slowly, without acknowledging the carnage he had wrought,
his blade of light simply dispersing into the air as he walked off.
"What a waste of life" was all Jaelynn could say as they approached the
corpses.
At that her mother nodded, and her song, louder now, began to echo through
the forest as they set about burying the dead.
The Unknown Future

The day had come for Jaelynn, as she had always known it would. Her mother
smiled at her as she entered the hollow, bathed in the soft moonlight. "My
daughter, my singular joy in Thera." Her mother looked at her, and Jaelynn
felt in that instant her own emotions overcoming her. "I've given you all a
mother can, a love of life and a song in your heart." She nodded her assent,
for it was true she had learned much from her mother, though her own
abilities paled in comparison to her mother's.
"It is time now, for this coming dawn you step out from my shadow, and go
forth into Thera to weave your own fate, Jaelynn." Her mother's smile veiled
the tears Jaelynn knew to be behind it as she handed Jaelynn a small necklace
with a crescent sapphire set in onyx. "But know in all that you do, my spirit
shall be there with you."
"But what shall I do mother, all I have known is.." Her mother's finger came
to Jaelynn's lips before she could finish.
"That is the beauty of life, the unknown canvas before you with which to
write your own song. Just as I have tended to the souls of the deceased these
many centuries, so must you find your place in Thera. But ever you find
yourself lost or alone, may that charm remind you that I am ever there with
you."
Jaelynn smiled at her mother and embraced her tightly. "My song will sound
across Thera mother, wherever we may be, you shall hear it, and know your
daughter's love and gratitude for all you gave me."
Her mother stepped away, and slowly faded back into the moonlight as she left
the hollow. Jaelynn waited only a moment for stepping out after her, knowing
her mother would be gone. She put the necklace on, and as she pressed it
against her breast she felt the warmth emanating from it.
Joining the Nexuns

The gnome was rather interesting, as was what he had to say. Jaelynn listened
to his views on balance, and the role he played in ensuring the future of
Thera. It seemed a lofty goal, one that afforded them a great deal of freedom
in how they pursued their aims. It also presented the opportunity to learn
much. She had pledged to them after reading about their existence and how
they served all facets of Thera at times, and it seemed she would soon walk
among them.
Jaelynn smiled at the gnome. "A fine song I could weave, learning from all of
you and seeing all that Thera is and shall be. My mother would be pleased."
He smiled back at her and nodded.
"Welcome to the Island, Keeper."
With that she knew she had found her place in Thera. It was not entirely the
path she had envisioned when she left her mother, but she knew it was one she
could be proud of.
Jaelynn's talents were still few, but she was slowly learning. Her focus now
was simply to learn, to remain as she had before under her mother, a lone
shadowed observer of her world, one easily overlooked and forgotten. Until
she understood Thera better, she could now know how best to fill her place in
it.
She would resume her training, still progressing alone, as she had done to
this point. It was slow, but she knew she was learning much with each day.
Musing on her travels so far

The salty air of the sea was a welcome feeling for Jaelynn. She often spent
her time there, when Thera afforded her the chance for a bit of time to
herself. She had completed her training, so that now she only had to focus on
the refinement of the many songs she had learned. A pursuit she enjoyed, for
even among her fellow Nexuns she did not mind the solitude.
In these quiet moments, she often wondered about her mother, and how she was.
She placed her hand on the sapphire charm she still wore, concealed beneath
her dress. Was she still tending to the souls of the fallen? Was she still in
their old home? Was she even alive? She had promised to her mother that her
song would ring out, that she would hear it. Jaelynn knew it had not happened
yet. But the charm, the familiarity of it, assured her that one day it would.
The battles she had waged in the name of the balance had not taken a toll on
her yet, for she rarely sought out needless violence. It was comforting to
Jaelynn that she was as she had been, that through her training and
bloodshed, she still remained who she was. The slight warmth she felt in the
charm only reinforced that her path was the right one. That a singer for the
balance, for the continued freedom of all Therans to pursue whatever course
they wish, was her proper place.
She could only smile as she thought of the day she would see her mother once
more, to join her song with hers.
