Description
Standing at fifteen foot and three inches, this spindly female frost giant
is taller, yet less muscular than most of her species. Snow-blue hair cascades
down to her shoulders, left to hang freely for lack of fear that an enemy
would pull or tug on it in battle, thanks to the forbidding height that
would be required for such tactics. Their locks serve to frame their
piercingly yellow eyes, set into an aquiline face that appears worn, drawn,
and rather ugly, for as much as it matches her too-long-limbed frame. Her
alabaster hide, thick with scars, covers her all the way down to the tips of
her toes, giant feet just another example of how each of her features seem
mismatched and misshapen.
Role
Backstory
Added Sun Jan 31 15:05:07 2021 at level 1:
Abandoned to live on her own, as is the way of frost giants, at about seventy
years old, Jagre survived. The solitary life of a frost giant was simple and
easy, being the apex of their ecosystem. When she was a hundred, she had
officially 'come of age', and despite her self-assessed ugliness, managed to
attract a mate. Then, the Maran attacked the Gorge in retribution for the raid
on Voralian City, which Jagre had not participated in. Losing the mate filled
her with an immense sense of loss and bitter anger, and she could no longer
look at the mountains without the dull ache in her heart, so she left. Weaker
than her fellows, she had focused on channeling fragments of divine magic in
the shamanic heritage, finding herself now drawn to both the Empire - to have
things to Do, to distract from her thoughts - and Rahsael, who seemed to
present a meaning to what had happened in concept and perhaps a way to get
over them.
First Steps
Added Thu Feb 4 06:05:40 2021 at level 14:
Jagre went into the lands of Thera seeking power and vengeance. Pausing to pay
respect and gain wisdom by making a pilgrimage to Rahsael's shrine in the Sea
of Despair and praying there, she went to gain in power and knowledge of the
realm. Meeting a dark elf named Zorbel, they resonate with the antipaladin's
desire to 'grow strong', and they hunt 'small things' together until a paladin
promptly swooshes in and crushes Zorbel. This causes Jagre's brow to wrinkle.
She needs more power if she is going to not have to fear the magic-swords of
the small things, and especially to crush the Marans. This is reinforced when
Karnver nearly crushes her outside of the city as soon as she steps outside,
thanks to his necromantic spells and curses, Jagre only escaping out of luck.
She promptly pledges to the Empire through the bard Atrellio, who introduces
her to the Imperial Palace and its many strictures. She isn't sure where the
power thing the recruiter yells about comes in, but perhaps soon.
Citizenship and Choices
Added Mon Feb 8 03:38:29 2021 at level 25:
As soon as Jagre joined the Empire, she was surprised to learn Karnver
suddenly became her best friend. The brutal necromancer of the Tribunal
mentorred her in how to make money and gain in power, until suddenly she'd
donated over a hundred thousand coppers and earned her citizenship. Before the
paperwork was all filed, she had a mysterious visitor in the Owl & Thistle inn
that introduced herself as the Bandit Queen herself, who sold her a legendary
sword she had no use for for a mere four gold. This. This was the power Jagre
was promised when she joined the Empire. She is very pleased with it so far,
but Lussuria's offer to worship Morius instead of Rahsael - because of
Rahsael's 'silence' towards Jagre - lingers at the back of her mind. It was
the philosophy of Rahsael that gave her the strength to get this far, but
would silent strength of philosophy be enough?
Advancement and Agonies
Added Wed Feb 10 04:47:55 2021 at level 37:
Jagre attended the Emperor's speech in the Inn of the Eternal Star, where he
invited Fortressfolk to attempt to rebut his Imperial Vision. One of the
individuals there made a comment about how the Fortress only fought to save,
to defend, to protect. When it was Jagre's turn to speak, this turned into a
near-incoherent rant about her motives and why she wanted to crush the
Fortress and how he was an utter liar, for had they not gone on the offence
after the frost giants raided Voralia? They had ruined Jagre's entire life and
she was going to teach them EXACTLY how she felt by razing their home to the
ground and causing them all to suffer the greatest loss possible! This
outburst of pain was taken as proof of the giants' evil heart to most of those
present, save for the elf Gwendelya, who expressed condolences for Jagre's
loss. Skeptically, she left to the Palace, where the Emperor promoted her for
her obvious loyalty and large donations to the Empire's coffers. Later, she
hunted with Hiiraki - and Gwendelya's voice intruded, telling her that the
Darsylon elf she had just killed had loved ones 'just like Jagre had.' The elf
did not respond to Jagre's hasty justifications, but they are enough to plant
a seed of doubt in her. Whether it will flourish is uncertain.
Ascent and Acknowledgment
Added Fri Mar 5 14:42:05 2021 at level 41:
Continuing to rise in both power and ranking, Jagre hears ominous chanting in
her guildhall in the voice of her dead mate and, after getting a drink at the
Owl&Thistle, heads to the shrine of Rahsael where she meets Neajess, who she
argues with about her Imperial status, and then an incredibly cruel doll that
she attempts to match in insults unsuccessfully. Being given power and a
mission to learn more about Loss by asking others why they joined their
guilds, Jagre finds herself greatly enjoying the task as she learns about many
people, like Karnver, Gwendelya, Ahinu the Emperor himself, and others.
Continuing to not care for her own welfare, the Emperor is later impressed by
her staunch defense of the Palace and - after Vantwiss' death - appoints her
as High Priestess of the Empire. While there aren't exactly any other eligible
candidates, Jagre feels vindicated in her choice to join the Empire for power
- because now she is a ruler, and never was a slave as Neajess taunted.
Jagre merely awaits her deity to acknowledge the completion of her mission.
Darkness and Light
Added Mon Mar 8 16:57:17 2021 at level 41:
Jagre spoke a lot with Maeneekoni after asking for teaching and guidance in
the way of the faith of Loss and has been guided onto the path of the Mourner
thanks to her interest in listening to the others of Thera speak about their
lives and what caused them to become adventurers. She also expounded upon what
the doll said to Jagre about how the Marans had made her, and that the Light
is what had *cast* the darkness in Jagre's heart. To bring proof and preach to
the Marans about how their fight for the Light is fated to raise champions of
darkness to stand against them is what, Maeneekoni said, would please Rahsael
greatly. Jagre enjoys the idea of trying to strike them where it would hurt
the very most - not their bodies, but their faiths. Her hatred simmers down on
the outside. Now she seeks to speak more with the Marans and force them to
confront what their order has done - raised a High Priestess of the Empire
against them!
A New Faith
Added Tue Mar 23 15:56:23 2021 at level 51:
After spending 175 years struggling against the Fortress and rising to the
status of High Priestess, Jagre decided that the best way to fight their
overwhelming numbers was to recruit as hard as she could. This has not borne
fruit yet, and while Jagre was loudly raging over it to Arensra after a
particularly demoralizing Codex raid, she was summoned by Morius and offered
the chance to denounce Rahsael in return for the power Jagre needed to force
the Marans to listen to her. She accepted, having heard from Maeneekoni the
story of Tristhana's marking by Rahsael, and figuring this was just part of
the games between divine. But being a pawn in others' games was fine by Jagre
- that was the Order that brought her into High Priestdom to begin with. If
she gets what she wants out of it, she'll suffer anything - and she waits
anxiously for the retribution she know will come from the faith of Loss even
as she exercises her new powers in an attempt to crush Shokai's followers.
Avalanche
Added Sat Mar 27 16:30:20 2021 at level 51:
While largely unfamiliar with the church of Morius and the tenets of the Sins,
Jagre has decided upon Rage as her guiding force - it was Rage that brought
her there and Rage that would make her stay. The power Morius gave Jagre
permitted her to mutually kill Alendross, which excited her despite Alendross
not being a Maran. However, Kaloura, one of the Maran azuretouched, has begun
attempting to chip away at Jagre's rage, having recognized that breaking
Jagre's body would be insufficient to ever stop her from fighting. After
seeing Jagre caught in an avalanche, Kaloura rescued Jagre despite their great
amount of fighting in the past, shaking Jagre's faith. If Kaloura would just
quit the Marans, then Jagre wouldn't have to fight her. Her Orderly heart
grates at knowing she owes a Maran a debt, and she doesn't yet know what to do
about it. Perhaps Morius would be able to reinforce her faltering Rage?
