Role
A chance lost.

Jediel'uphaerlial Eln'Nisiswah, the first son of house Nisiswah, breathed
heavily as he retreated. His thin longsword a blur of motion as he worked
diligently to keep his foe at bay. Jediel's eyes watched the bright red form
of his approaching foe warily, the infravision showing just how hard this new
weaponmaster was working to try to prove that his station was deserved.
Another sudden flurry of blows, twin swords stabbing and slicing in wildly
unorthodox movements showing the desperation for what it was. Jediel was
sorely pressed by the rage of the attack, this was not the calm cool demeanor
Eagliste Nisiswah was bespoken of. Rolling his longsword and dirk over and
over in a cycle Jediel backed away as quickly as he could, worry suddenly
finding it's way through the icy cold consciousness he had been trained to
embrace. Two more quick retreating steps, his blades parrying faster and
faster, and then the hard sole of his boot slipped on the stone cavern floor.
Jediel glided to one knee, ever one of the most graceful, but it was over.
Weaponmaster Eagliste needed just that moment to close the distance and
lightly place one of his matching swords against the neck of Jediel. It was
done, and Eagliste was now the true Weaponmaster, until another of greater
worth was found or greater cunning dispatched him.
To ponder the impossible.

House Nisiswah had long heard the standing rumors of an assault, what
powerful house didn't. These rumors though came from the most secure and
trustworthy of spies, and so the ever present threat of extinction kept the
household moving in a flourish of deadly betterment. The clerics, all Women,
pushed themselves, attempting to gain the favor of their Shadow god. The
Magi, mostly Women, memorized the most deadly incantations and collected the
most rare ingredients, always ready. And the Warriors, also mostly Women,
battered and beat on their training partners, doing all they could to grow
stronger and faster. This was the glory and power of Nisiswah, over ninety
percent of its blood were the strongest and largest of Women. Ever did Jediel
resent his place, First son of these using women, they abused him always. He
was the smallest and weakest, and he resented it greatly, even more so with
the addition of a new Weaponmaster whom the emotional females of the clerical
order fawned over so obviously. This is why Jediel did not find a way out of
his rotation to join the raiding parties, even with the ever looming war.
This was Jediel's chance to make a name for himself with the independent
members of Iben'zuel, his hope, his wish, his dream... to be offered a
position in the citizenship. It had never been done, this scoffing of a
nobles social upbringing. To leave House Nisiswah, the fourth house of power
in Iben'zuel, abandoning all ties and hoping to do something so simple as
patrol the tunnels or even teach the dedicated. Such a thing was unheard of.
Kill to earn your place!

As the patrol of dedicated slid in silence along the edge of an underground
chasm, Jediel lost himself in contemplation. Vivid memories of being beaten,
tormented, and tortured all the in the name of 'training'. Days locked away
with no food or water so that he might learn to sustain and flourish with
nothing, though it seemed like playful starvation to them. And after all
this, the one opportunity he had to become something more, the Weaponmaster,
was ripped from him by Egliste's emotions! The man could not best him without
falling into a fit of rage and the accidental slip of a heal. The troop
passed into a small opening ahead, nothing of any interest had been found,
but this time away was more then enough for Jediel to assess his worth here.
He was certain that he could excel with these... A sudden dull ring echoed
through the tunnels. Before an eye could even fully blink, his patrol had
slipped into predetermined defensive positions. Within moments they moved
off, the obvious intent of slaughter causing many a wicked grin to spread.
There! The other side of this wall is were it came from, the scattered sounds
of metal on stone. The Dedicated formed a half circle around the point their
chanter had specified. A few moments later soft chanting filled the tunnel
and then an the blinding flash and deafening crash followed. The Dedicated
expected such, and had steeled themselves appropriately, and almost instantly
they were in motion. Jediel new this was his moment, he was the first through
the break in the wall, ready to kill.
Against every instinct.
Added Thu Nov 18 20:33:02 2010 at level 1:
Jediel broke through the gap with a diving role, this simple instinct
probably saved his life, or at the same time doomed him to his future. The
massive worms frenzied thrashing startled him almost so much that he nearly
let the rock man slice him down with a pick-axe. Jediel moved fast, running
on the side of the while as his dirk slashed quickly to the side deflecting
another pick-axe. Another deafening crash shook the entire tunnel as the
giant worm smashed into the side of the tunnel, causing the ceiling to crash
down and seal the gap. Jadiel was now, as he had been his whole life,
completely, and utterly, alone.
Once more Jediel found himself back peddling away from the furious onslaught
before him. His longsword and dirk flowing faster and faster, his feet
stepping lighter and lighter. There were a multitude of rock men before him,
Svirfnebli they were called, pressing dangerously close with their weapons.
Stepping left Jediel went against every technique he had ever known, his
muscles screaming against his instinct, he snapped his weapons from left to
right as well, so very quickly. Every trainer he had ever had pressed him to
always move to an opponents side, pushing their weapons so that he could
close into the opening and strike were the weapons weren't. But now, in this
instant of life and death, he used every single technique he could backwards,
drawing the closest, single rock man closer. His blades moved furiously,
pulling the axe wielding foe closer, between him and the seven or eight
others. And then, he shifted ever so slightly forward to put the rock man off
balance... turned, and fled into the black tunnels of the underdark.
The wise gnome.

After what must have been near a week of wandering, Jediel'uphaerlial
Eln'Nisiswah noticed a smoothing in the tunnels. There was more dirt here,
smooth dirt and less jagged stone, less rock tunnel. He also heard the
flowing of water, and after a moment of sorting through the echoes he
realized it came from above. Only a short while later Jediel had made his way
through man made brick tunnels, then to a small gap in the wall, overlooking
a flowing river. Crawling out onto the stone bank, he slinked up river. Above
him, what seemed like so far above, thousands of small twinkling lights shone
in the darkness, the ceiling above must be so high, and this cavern so very
massive. As he slid through the darkness a wall rose above him, one that he
could survey his surroundings easily from. There were men here, but he
quickly realized they moved so loudly in their armor that they didn't even
notice the softer noises, and it did not take long for Jediel to slip by
them. Along the wall he moved, he saw so many things that seemed normal, yet
were so different. A wide flourishing market, that was empty. Closed doors
with no guards in front of them. On he moved until something caught his eye,
a stone bowl spitting water high into the air. Closer he got, closer and
closer until he could almost taste the water on his tongue. How long had it
been since he had eaten or drank anything, closer and closer. And then,
unpredictably a small form spoke to him. Jediel was so hungry, so surprised
that anything had snuck up upon him, that he did not even turn to draw his
blades. So this was it, his death, then.. nothing happened. Slowly Jediel
turned to the figure before him, what looked to be a soft plump rock man
stood before him, smiling in greeting, and then it pointed up some nearby
stairs to an open door.
Gaining ones own accomplishments.
Added Thu Nov 18 21:43:41 2010 at level 5:
There was always, as long as he could remember, very little that was
exceptional about himself. Jediel had always been skilled with his weapons,
but what drow wasn't? Jediel had always been quick with his wits, soft on his
feet, skilled with manipulation, but again, what drow wasn't? It did not take
very long within this Academy to realize that there was very little about
him, that was special. All Jediel'uphaerlial Eln'nisiswah had, was the first
son clarification of his first name and the first blood title attached to his
houses name. That, of all the things he had, is what made him unique. This is
what he would relinquish, what he would absolve himself of. No more was he
Jediel'uphaerlial Eln'nisiswah.. no, from this day forward he was Jediel
Nisiswah, from this day forward he would gain everything he had by his own
actions.
Exiting the Academies front door, the young drow twitched his weapons free of
their sheaths as a night birds call filled the air. Jediel grimaced to
himself in a rare display of emotion, even after the days spent studying
everything he could of this surface land the brash calls and random sounds
still made him jump in surprise. So very different from the absolute silence
of below, but these reactions he would control, in time. There was so much to
learn within, he felt like a full sponge, and yet one item kept revolving to
the forefront of his considerations. The great dark empire took any and all
that swore the oath, and there.. there, even a peasant could prove their
worth and rise to greatness through the doing of deeds and the pulling of
strings. So dramatically different, diametrically opposed even, this faction
seemed.. compared to everything with which he was raised. Oh, if only his
Matron, his sisters, could see Jediel now. With that he laughed, lightly, and
moved off to find a way to raise the gold for his oath.
The Oath.
Added Mon Nov 22 20:09:20 2010 at level 21:
For the Empire.... it seemed to hang in the air, to cling onto the very
cobblestone streets themselves. The Empire.... the words vibrated with a
majestic energy all their own.
Empire.... a holding, coalescence, gathering, and then the snap!
His skin, all of it, felt at that moment as if thousands of thin switches
were slapped against it. Such blinding pain, but at the same time a profound
energy, binding him. Jediel straightened as the pain faded as quickly and
suddenly as it appeared, eyeing the Imperial Trainer. Compared to what he has
had since his escape, that coin was nearly a small fortune. But every bit of
it was worth the cost, he would make his own way by his own abilities!
The Palace was massive, resplendent, and so very glorious! The long paved
road leading through these perfectly similar buildings. Everything here was
spaced evenly, in increments along the road, past the wide fountain and up to
this Palace. This was now his place, the army was now his family, the council
was now his Matron. Though perhaps there were no women able to direct his
service, with a bit of luck. And if it turned out that there were, well he
would just have to fawn over them until they believed him a lick spit
creature incapable of any semblance of plotting. Those that Jediel found
himself commanding, he decided at that moment, as his gaze lingered on the
Palace of his Dark Family. Those he would just have to find believable excuse
to execute. A few quick strides and he entered the gates to begin building
his legend.
Sacred teachings, a history.

Backing away, his spear weaving through a series of parries, Jediel defended
himself against this massive storm giant that pressed him. Such slaughter was
necessary at times, to learn the extent of his abilities and to perfect his
techniques. As the giant jumped towards him it tripped, large hands reaching
in vain to grasp at the drow. A quick spin to one side and a subsequent
thrust, and Jediel finished the large beast. Just then, as the spear stabbed,
he had an insight, a memory of sorts. He remembered his families teachings,
too young to fully grasp them, and how they prized them in all secrecy. The
teachings were said to have been stolen from the most royal of elven houses,
and passed down along the Nisiswah line, generation after generation. He
realized the implications of what he had played at, when he was young. To
flow away from an enemies pressing attacks, using every surrounding as an
obstacle, only to strike decisively and violently as you draw close to them
again. The flow of realization coupled with strikingly brilliant memory was
almost to much, and he stumbled as he followed his companions down the
mountainside, pondering what next to study to compliment his abilities.
The plump duergar squealed in displeasure as Jediel slipped from the shadows
and poked it again, with his knife. You will tell me, tell me all! Oh how it
whimpered, the weak little coward. He had purposely chosen the one lagging
behind the rest of the tunnel patrol, so that none of the others would
notice. It was not a difficult thing, to cut the straps of this ones armor,
as slow as it was. And once that precious armor had fallen free, this
creature was as defenseless as a bug. It did not take him long to learn all
of the secrets of the Gates of the Forge, and begin to devise a way to put
such into practical use for himself. A true compliment indeed!
