Description

Jeira's fiery red mane, swept to one side with the opposite shaved close in an undercut, is usually what attracts some gazes. Tan skin, bit weary from the road, and a small scar that marks her left cheek. Her gray eyes keep track of her surroundings, and she keeps moving the weight from one foot to the other, ever so slightly, ready to spring into move.

Role

From Jeira's Diary (I)

"If someone is reading this, I'm either dead or you have some really nimble
fingers. In that regard, congratulations. Now that I'm more settled, I
thought it's time to start putting some of my story into writing. Mostly to
help me recall, to keep me on track. But also for anyone that comes after me.

I was raised in the forest, close enough to civilization to deal with them
from time to time. Far enough to always be considered an outcast.

My father, Marek, was a forester. He spent most of the time in the wilds,
surveying the lands for the local lord.

My mother, Serenya, was a herbalist. She seemed to have a cure for almost any
ailment, be it of the body, the mind or the soul. That earned her a good
amount of friends, and also some enemies.

People sometimes whispered about her being a witch. Later, they whispered
about her long hours alone in the forest. In time, the whispers turned to
open talk of rituals and sacrifices, of dancing under the moon, covered in
blood. In the end, the voices against her drowned out the ones that spoke in
her favor. And when it finally happened, they stood silently, watching how
everything I had known was consumed by flame."

A chance encounter

Added Mon Aug 11 15:29:23 2025 at level 11:
"I had an...interesting encounter yesterday. While traveling, I came across a
fela. She was completely immobile in the forest, almost invisible to the
naked eye. I'm pretty sure she saw me before I saw her, but instead of
finding another route and avoid a possible conflict, I decided to keep
walking. In her hiding recognized some of the same methods I've been using
myself, just with way more polished and practiced.

When I reached her, I simply nodded in greeting. She didn't say anything, but
didn't show signs of aggression either. Up close, I was able to confirm she
was a ranger too. And way more experienced than myself.

That's why, with survival in mind, I decided to ask her for some guidance
about procuring better equipment to ensure my subsistence as much as possible
in this lands. She pointed me to a nearby tower, where I should be able to
scavenge some things from the bodies of a duergar and a giant. Thanking her
for the advice, I left.

I was able to reach the tower unscathed and, indeed, there it were: the
bodies and the gear. I grabbed as much as I was able to carry, and tried to
leave. Suddenly, I felt cold as never before, and a translucent figure formed
right in front of me, giving me just a split second to duck and dodge their
claws. Getting out of there was, in fact, way more complicated than getting
in.

Now, being able to rest, I've been closely examining the gear I got. It seems
of good craftmanship, although there's something...odd, about it. The leather
is like nothing I've seen before. Now, I'm not really an expert tanner, but I
know the good from the bad when I see it. I might need to consult an actual
professional on the matter it seems. All in all, it's better than what I was
originally using, so I can't really complain either."

It was the middle of the night. I suddenly woke up, coughing and choking. The
air was thick, and I couldn't see anything. The door to my room suddenly open
with a loud creak, and my mother rushed in.

'Jeira? Hurry. Get dressed'. She saw I was about to complain, and continued
with a stern but worried tone in her voice 'There's no time. Just do as I
say, child. Hurry!'

Not used to see my mother so distressed, I left the bed and started dressing
in a hurry. I was almost finished when she grabbed me by the arm, pulling me
out of the room and to the other end of the cabin. I pushed back, hearing
the voice of my father outside. Then, a few more voices. Angry, yelling.

It was in that moment, when I finally saw the flames. The cabin was
completely on fire, the ceiling starting to collapse. I simply
couldn't believe what I was seeing, so I just stood there,
presenting no resistance when my mother kept pushing me to the
window. When I regained my senses, I had half my body outside.
I crept out of the window and turned back to my mother, when
part of the ceiling collapsed, blocking her path.

'Mother!'

She shook her head 'Run! Run and hide, my child. Don't look back. Hurry!'
then dissappeared back inside.

Unable to go back inside, and worried about what was going on, I ran to the
edge of the trees. Not to escape, but with the idea of creeping back into a
better position and find out.

From my new position, I watched helplessly as the cabin fully collapsed.
The townsfolk were there, surrounding my father. Pushed him to his knees.
When I saw the glint of the blade, I knew what was coming. I looked away.
And, as I heard the blade cutting the air, then the wet thud when it found
its target, I heard another voice. One I knew really well.

'There! Her daughter!'

It was Garrett. My childhood friend. The one who used to race with me to the
old oak. Who fought the imaginary monsters with me through the forest, using
sticks as knightly swords. His eyes, hostile and crazed, glinting from the
reflection of the nearby flames, followed me as I started to back away, then
run, into the trees."

From Jeira's Diary (III)

Added Sun Aug 31 05:28:11 2025 at level 23:
"I raced through the forest not even worried about dodging most branches, as
I just wanted to put as much distance as possible between Garrett and me.
Between what I had witnessed, and what I could imagine was still happening.
Luckily, he never was a fast runner. He was taller than me, burly and built
for working the fields; not for chasing someone through a forest. But, what
he lacked on strength, he had on stubbornness: I knew he wasn't going to stop
chasing me. I needed to scare him away, instead.

Close to the forest, there was a cave system I knew pretty well. My mother
gathered most of her herbs either at the entrance or inside, and I grew up
exploring those tunnels and climbing those walls. I tried to convince Garrett
a lot of times throughout the years to come play there, but he usually had
some made up excuse to avoid the caves. Myself, I enjoyed them a lot. How my
voice and my steps echoed around me, the ways my mother explained to me how
estalactites and estalagmites formed. The way, bit by bit, nature found a way
to craft that incredibly complex and beautiful network that ran for the gods
know how long and how deep.

I made sure Garrett was able to follow my steps, and the path I wanted him to
take. I perched myself on one of the upper tunnels, waiting for my eyes to
adapt to the almost complete darkness. And I waited, paying attention to
every sound and echo, to every movement through the tunnels.

A few moments later, before I even saw the light from his burning torch, I
heard his steps. They were slow, but not methodical nor controlled. He was
worried and scared. Unconsciously reaching the realization: the hunter was
about to become the prey."

"I remember everything of that moment. The sounds. The smell. The feelings.
My heart pounded as I held my breath, patiently waiting for the right moment.
Step by step he got closer and closer, until he was right under.

That's when I struck.

He was bigger, stronger. But between the darkness, the surprise and the jump
I was able to knock him down. The sword went clanking to a side, the torch
rolled to the opposite. And before he was able to discern what was going on
or who else was there, I was already on top of him, rock in hand.

He tried to fight back before the first hit, and was still moving a little
after the second. When I brought down the rock again, he stopped moving and
went completely silent. That didn't stop me, though. I don't remember exactly
how long I kept hitting him with that damn rock. The wet sounds every time it
made contact with what remained of his head. Again and again. In the end, I
had to stop simply because I was unable to lift the rock again. My arms hurt.
My whole body ached. I was panting, breathless.

Then, I started yelling, screaming. Which turned into a bloodcurling howl.I
let out everything: every ounce of grief, of anger, of fear. That also hurt.
I spent days unable to even talk...but it also felt freeing. Cathartic. My
life, myself, whoever I was, all of that died in that cave. I had nothing
else, I owed nothing to anyone. I grabbed Garrett's rusted sword, the torch,
and made my way to the other side of the cave system.

I had nothing left, but I wasn't leaving anything behind either."
