Description
A man is here, heavily concealed with various cloaks and robes.
The shimmering runes on the clothing surrounding him twinkle and
fade in rhythm with something, though their pattern is unpredictable.
Looking closer, you notice a slim mask conceals most of his features
though you are able to see the grey pallor of skin that has been
recently scarred over. His nose seems like it has been reset on
his face, and his hair is graying slightly, growing in patches, and
cropped short. The rest of his body is lithely muscled, though
heavily protected by various pieces of magically-enhanced bone
and leather. Several slim wands hang loosely from a belt loop
in an easily accessable manner, and a floating chest seems to
trail silently behind him. Looking closer, you notice...

Backstory (Part 1)

Our heroes story is full of tragedy and pain, and begins many years in the past.
For you see, many centuries before the birth of Jindicho Altomerri, there was a priest
by the name of Zaltrim Zinfalan. Born to a pair of lesser nobility semi-related to the
Baron of Dagdan, he sought to make his own mark in the world, wandering the lands
in search of power and glory. It was during these times before his true calling was
found that his greed for power drew the attention of the Merciful Lord, Enlilth. Enlilth
was pleased that a human could so encompass the desires and greed he found so
satisfying, and made his presence known to Zaltrim shortly after the human's battle
with a pair of elves loaded down with coin (which, coincedentally, was now in Zaltrim's
purse). Finding himself in awe of the Dread Duergar God's presence, Zaltrim pledged
his eternal soul in furthering the Merciful Lord's cause, and was given both the
the bloodoath and a snippet of the God's power on the spot. And all was good, for a
time.
But Zaltrim was cut from a different cloth. The power he had was not enough. His
status in Empire was lowly, for the Fifth Age of Man had most recently begun.
Tirelessly preaching the word of Enlilth and gathering coin to give to the Empire's
coffer began to chafe at the priest. HE wished power, and soon. He began to deal
with the Blood Tribunal, making shady deals with them when it suited him,
attempting to have his rivals slain and cast from the Empire. That worked, for a time
and Enlilth was pleased. Rising finally to the ranks of an honored Acolyte within
the Empire, Zaltrim was marked with the Merciful Lord's touch, and told his will
would soon be done. But still Zaltrim schemed and was unhappy with his status.
One day, while walking through the woods near the settlement of South Dairein,
Zaltrim discovered a place that would sow the seeds to his own undoing. A large
mansion tucked away, hidden from prying eyes. A place he found himself returning
to over and over again the next few years. The Shrine of the Lord of the Earth, the
Burning Desire, Daevryn the Shaper of Kings.

Added Wed Jun 9 09:16:36 2010 at level 28:
Throughout the next several years Zaltrim would return to the mansion, beseeching
the Lord of the Earth to hear his prayers. Somehow, during this time, the Merciful
Lord was amazingly unaware of his priests' deception, perhaps due to the sheer
amount of conquest being done in his name in other parts of the World. The Burning
Desire however, was aware, and one day gifted the human with His presence.
Zaltrim felt the power of the Lord of the Earth presence immediately, nearly being
driven to his feet by the sheer will of Daevryn's arrival. Prostrating himself before
the Gods feet, he spoke of his dissatisfaction within the Merciful Lord's clergy, as
well as his lowly status within the Empire. Daevryn heard his pleas, and was amused
as well as intrigued. The priests' goals were something the Burning Desire could
understand, as was his will to acheive them. At the very least, he could protect the
human from the gaze of Enlilth until he grew bored or tired of the priest.
And so Zaltrim returned to the Empire, reinvigorated and refocused on his path to
power. It was in these next few years that Zaltrim's rise was precipitous, his enemies
slain and humilated, his personal power multiplying seven-fold, his backstabbing
legendary. Daevryn watched and was pleased. But he sensed that the human
eventually would fall victim to his own hubris and desire for power, and perhaps turn
on the Lord of the Earth as he had the Merciful Duergar God. For this, he merely
watched and knew the moment the rogue priest stopped amusing him and offering
homage, he would allow Enlilth to see the deception. And then, the priest would
pay for his arrogance and deception. Which would also amuse the Burning Desire.
For even the will of the Gods strengthened him.

Finally it all came crashing down for Zaltrim. As he finally doned the garb of the
High Priest of the entire Empire, he was once again unhappy. The power he had
long desired was still not enough. His dealing with the Blood Tribunal had made
him wish to rule over the cobbled streets of Voralian City, the seedy paths of
Seantryn Modan, the cluttered roads of Galadon. This Empire was just not enough
and to make his way into the Blood Tribunal, he needed more. Another Immortal
patron perhaps.
As the seeds to his own demise fermented within his brain, Daevryn laughed. A
pity the immortal thought, for he so enjoyed watching the human take what he
wanted. As he watched the priest search for the Pearl Lich's shrine, a
long-forgotten God of the Tribunal, he knew his time protecting the priest had
ended. And now was the time to watch and laugh at the pain that would soon
be visited upon this human.
Enlilth himself noticed his priest searching in vain for the Pearl Lich, but was not
amused. Not in the least. He had noticed his priest had lessened his preaching of
the Merciful Lord's magnificence, lessened his gifts laid before the Throne,
lessened his fervent conversion of the masses, but others things had consumed him.
But now, a priest baring his mark daring to consort with other Gods!? There is
a limit to Enlilth's mercy, and that limit had been reached.
The priest's first thought as he sailed through the skies, his body shattered and
broken, power stripped, was 'I am still alive'.
The Duergar God's first thought as the human landed in some forest many miles
from his Omnipotent gaze was 'That was a solid punt. Works better when they are
big enough for my entire foot, unlike those gnomes'. He heard a slow rumbling
of laughter from the very earth and was confused, for why would Daevryn be
watching his vengeance on a former priest? It was then that the whole of the
deception was known to the Merciful Lord.
Glancing once more at the broken body of his former priest, Enlilth knew his
torment was not yet done. For you see, Zaltrim would now be cursed for his
part in angering the Duergar God. And the curse would last longer than either
might have ever imagined.
Character Traits/Motivations (Part 1)

Above all, one must realize that Jindicho is an evil, capricious human being.
He has learned from an early age the power of emotion and words, and uses both
to twist the wills of men to suit his needs. Prone to bravado where it suits him,
cowardice when discretion is the better part of valor, and outright lies at times
Jindicho will do whatever it takes to get what he desires.
From an early age, Jindicho realized something was different about him. He was
acutely aware of sins of his relatives in cursing his blood, and was quite sickly and
weak as he began his life. As he traveled as a young adult, he discovered it was
Enlilth who cursed his bloodline, and began making preparitions to get the curse
removed. That is the foremost thing on his mind at all times.
That is not to say he is completely loyal to the Merciful One, for he still harbors a
deep-seated bitterness at his fate. For it was not he who broke his oath. Ever
cogniscient of the whims of the Divine and their ability to manipulate the humans
that follow them, Jindicho has a particularly loathesome attitude towards priests
and those fools of the Redhorn and the Refuge. Their blind loyalty to misguided
ideals of Freedom and Purity and their place at the foot of their Gods have led him
to hunt them with dogged pursuit, sometimes merely to impose upon them the
folly of placing their faith in anything but themselves.
Character Traits/Motivations (Part 2)
Added Tue Jun 22 13:45:43 2010 at level 28:
Of late, Jindicho gained a small measure of infamy and was cursed again, this time
of the flesh. Always one to enjoy the finer things in life, whether it be a good
mulled wine of a vintage variety, or the pleasure of a beautiful woman, Jindicho
has now found himself horribly disfigured through the whims of the Gods.
Unable to discover the true breath of what happened to him, and single-mindedly
persuing a cure to his malady, Jindicho has retreated somewhat from the realms of
man, researching arcane lore. He has even denied the love of his life the presence
of himself, for he is still a vain man. Perhaps he doesn't even love the ministrel
Mayael, for even as he lay with her in the splendor of a mansion bedroom, his
mind raced with thoughts of sacrificing her to the King of Kings in return from his
freedom from his curse.
Now, Jindicho has no idea what has caused his recent curse. Broken, disfigured
and supremely bitter, Jindicho at times believe perhaps it was the Goddess of
Love who saw into his black heart and prevented him from perverting the
sacred emotion with Mayael. Perhaps it was the Divine Conqueror, for through
the last few years Jindicho has not given the proper fealty and gifts to the
Duergar Lord. Perhaps it was merely capricious beings much like himself who
delight in pain and torment, or other, more envious Gods who saw upon
Jindicho a soul that burned brightly and devoid of any of the restraints that bind
even them.
Now he moves through the lands, known by all, feared by many, loathed by some.
In time perhaps he will find a cure to restore him to the prime of his life, a cure
to restore the guildmasters' of Thera faith in his abilities, to restore his name to
a place which will allow him to manipulate the world to his liking.
Perhaps...in time.
