Description

Mostly covered by flowing holy robes, this elderly gentleman appears thin, wiry, and slender of frame yet, he manages to move with purpose and poise. Just below an oval shaped clasp, about his neck, faintly glows an emblem of a sun above a broken blade. Hanging from the opposite side is a small leather pouch with a few sticklike handles protruding from the aft flap with a slight shimmer twinkling off of their handle's oily sheen. His ink-smudged fingers, although gnarled with age, delicately maneuver through the contents of the pouch, tracing back and forth over the contents with aged wisdom and forethought. All the while, the look upon his face remains unchanged. Sky-blue eyes, highlighted by narrow crows feet, catch the passing light as they stare off into the distance, some little bit of radiant energy seems to lying beyond them but it's his soothing smile that expresses a peaceful aura its own. Two perky dimples highlight his rosy cheeks just beyond the corners of his mouth and exude the noticeable sensation of joy. A long scraggly chin goatee has several gems braided into the the base and makes the shape of an inverted tear drop. His overall condition seems to be that...

All tales have to start somewhere. pt1

Greetings,

This is the story of an everyday child exposed to an extraordinary condition
and the way that he reacted to it. As we all know, everyone has a different
reaction. Some individuals withdraw, some people grow angry or sad, a few
aren't able to handle unexpected stimuli and end their own lives but a few
accept and assimilate to grow more mature as a individual.

Jorje Ry'Vaith's reaction was more in line with the latter. When he first
discovered his father's lineage, he was a bit distressed. "How could someone
with the blood of a dark elf running through their veins be so kind and
caring?" he thought. At the time, he had run away from home and hidden himself
away, weeping and sobbing with the might of a youthful child. After all, he
wasn't supposed to have heard the conversation telling of his father's darker
past as a dastardly bandit. It was several days before he finally felt
comfortable enough to return home after overhearing the conversation but his
determination to find out more and maybe his grumbling stomach finally got the
better of him.

As he slowly marched home, each weary foot slowly plodding toward the small
cabin, his worried parents rushed to meet him and wrapped him tightly in a warm
embrace. Immediately his fears crumbled and again tears began to stream down
his face. After he and his family finally dried their crying eyes, they sat
down and discussed his father's dark past and he learned how he overcame that
life to settle with the women he loved and finally enjoy true peace.

All tales have to start somewhere. pt2

This event played a large role in the way Jorje's mental state evolved. It
caused him to realize that darkness is something that can be overcome and that
being good is best exemplified through action. This emotional experience made
this desire so ingrained in him that he decided to become an adventurer and
spread these ideals to any willing to listen. So, on his seventeenth birthday he
departed from his parents home in the plains and headed to Galadon to search
out a guild that fit his liking.

Upon arrival, he visited all of the guilds beginning with the healer and
shaman's in the north. Then he went south through the square visiting the
warriors guild and that of the transmuter's but it was when he was about to
head back to the Shaman's guild that out of the corner of his eye he spied
something enormous. The conjurer's guild he hadn't even considered but as he
began to learn of them and their attachment to the various planes, including
that of the light, he felt some kind of attachment and decided to join.

After spending a little time getting used to the art of spell casting and
growing within the guild he first heard of the Fortress of Light and the awe
inspiring acts that its' members perform on a regular basis. He believes that
it'll be a good place to start to exact change and be heard by more people.
"After all, it's always easier to enact change when there's a group of people
vying for a similar goal," he thinks.

Coming into his own.

Added Wed Nov 11 07:19:57 2015 at level 25:
Wow, conjuration is really powerful he thought. Not a moment before he'd
studied the incantation needed to bring forth a familiar and then, before he
even realized it, there was a mischievous djinn before him. It had some human
features but was clearly extra-planar in origin. And, although it took a
little time, befriending him was almost as if second nature, as they shared
their stories, talents, magic and mystery his bond with the mythical being
grew.

It wasn't until somewhat after this that he discovered more about the
benevolence of djinn by watching as the joining of power as he summoned
elementals. Truly, it was an amazing feat to witness but more importantly it
brought them closer together as partners. Together they'd do what they can to
make a difference in this world that darkness is so often trying to tear down
and manipulate for their own purposes. These new essences, the elementals,
although not goodly in nature would also become their strength to work along
side and defend the light.

Using the force of extra-planar beings is a prime method that he uses to try
and sway and defend those of righteousness but it isn't his only one.
Recently, he's begun to speak with those of the Imperial ranks, or any that
would assail his person, to try to help move them along the path to goodness
and peace. He believes that it is even more important to nurture the mind and
spirit than it is to try and beat it into the body, although that is what some
seem to force out of their encounters.

The Curative Arts.

Added Fri Dec 11 15:08:59 2015 at level 51:
Early life experiences have giving Jorje some perspective. In the past, he's
tried to do all that he can to motivate and guide people into a more righteous
path but he's come to the conclusion that although this isn't inherently bad,
that it's better to concentrate on a more singular aspect. In his quest for
peace, he's began to focus in on healing, in all of its aspects. To him, the
body, soul, and spirit all need the attention and rejuvenation to thrive, some
more than others.

Although at times, he still enlists the aid of the mighty band of angels, his
deepest concentration has been to build a good rapport with the various beings
of light known as Archons. To him, not only are they companions to aid in his
personal quest but they are beings to be emulated. Within them lies the key to
physical rejuvenation and health. They care for him and he in turn cares for
them.

Because of this shift towards healing, he's began to contemplate more openly
the insights into what healing really is and to what aspects of it that can be
projected. Surely his Archons are capable of great physical healing, likely
even better than those devoted to the guild of healing but healing mental pain
is considerably more difficult. Being able to sooth the anguish, calm rage,
and mend a broken psyche are all tremendously important in his path to peace,
as such, he feels that he will strive to become this example within the
Acolytes.

Planar Connections pt 1

Added Sun Jan 3 09:50:50 2016 at level 51:
In his journey through the healing arts, Jorje has come across a couple
instances of note that have given him cause for worry. These areas of interest
are just little bits of life that aren't quite making sense. Some lifeforms
having an apparent connection to one of the planes of existence over another,
or simply the lack of connection to some of the planes. Because of these odd
connections, he's began to study how the planes are arranged and to map their
intersections.

"Beings imbued with the spark of life, either flesh or element, should
logically have a connection to the plane in which they are birthed upon and
that the planes so closely associated with them should have an affect on them."
This is his basic theory, based on his diagram of the Planar Octahedron.

He's notice this connection with the creatures summoned by the conjuration
guild. All basic elementals are balanced by nature and this makes sense to him
because none are bound to the positive or negative planes directly. Angels,
Archons are of the light because of their connection to the positive plane and
Demons and Devils the opposite, being bound to the negative plane.

His puzzlement comes at mephits and their more sinister nature. He's
encountered a few of them in their home within the other planes by visiting
Khardrath's sanctum. Even the lightning mephit was dark, even with that
elemental plane being influenced by the positive. Surely, he thinks, there must
be some odd cause of this.

Planar Connections pt 2

Added Sun Jan 3 10:08:48 2016 at level 51:
Curiosity it seems, can't be sated all that easily and since the mystery of the
mephits exists across planes, and he's seen them, then why can't he access more
planes? In specific he's interested in each of the planes that's bordered and
influenced by the positive plane, linked to life and energy. Steam, Lightning,
Mineral, and Radiance all exist as quasi-elements that are linked from the
prime elements to the positive plane. The understanding that a breach and even
a contract with such elemental beings is possible, he discovered, as in the
volumes of the Convegno.

Avello's Convegno, as it's called, is a literary and mystical work comprised by
an ancient conjurer known as Avello. Through research, Jorje has discovered
that it was comprised of many volumes but three remain. Volume I allowing a
conjuring from the quasi-elemental plane of steam, calls forth a vapor sprite.
Volume II and III call forth para-elementals of ooze and ice, respectively.
All three are centered around the plane of water but his greatest interest is
in the plane of steam. "How was this man able to accomplish such things?", he
wonders.

Because Avello was able to do it, he hypothesized that others could as well.
In his search, he turned up Ooze para-elementals within Maethien, Lightning
quasi-elemental in Kteng's laboratory, a Magma para-elemental in Velkyn Olath,
and a whole host of elementals roaming the tower of Trothon but nowhere did he
find any quasi-elementals bordering the negative plane, which he was sort of
happy about, but his sadness and new journey is in the two that border the
positive that he couldn't find, Mineral and Radiance. Oh, how he desires to
bond and bring forth such a glorious elemental as that of Radiance, full of
life giving light.

Darker Planes

Added Sat Feb 6 14:28:08 2016 at level 51:
His footsteps echoed and rumbled as he strode down the hall. Small bits of
dust arose in small puffs as his tender fingers rummage through the various
tomes, scrolls and books of all shapes and sizes. From time to time he stops
and pulls out a dark and dingy work to thumb through before putting them back,
one by one. It's not just hours but days, weeks, even entire months he's spent
straining his eyes, going through the histories discovering ancient works and
taking his own notes on the various subjects.

Never is he able to find a comprehensive work written upon the creatures known
as Mephits. So, he began field research on the subject. Again he journeyed
back to Khardrath's Planar Sanctum and ventured into the various planes. He
observed and catalogued the various creatures accessible through the apparatus
portals. In his notes, he details that there were different mephits living in
each of the para-elemental planes and the quasi-elemental plane of lightning.
To him, they appear impish in nature and seem to not only have a tie to that of
chaotic magic but to the negative plane.

Certainly, he did not come to this conclusion lightly but taking observations,
one at a time, he noted that each mephit seemed to target the elemental
creatures around them. This targeting could be something as simple as poking
or laughing, but could also be as vicious as taking a bite out of a passing
elemental, consuming their essence. Their appearance in the various planes had
originally led him to believe that they were of elemental nature themselves but
this doesn't seem to be the situation.

The Murky Side of the Planes pt2

Added Sat Feb 6 14:30:10 2016 at level 51:
Going back and forth over his diagram, the writings from the Lyceum, and the
great Library in Hamsah, he concluded that beings of elemental energy remain as
balanced as a most proper gnome may be. This held true in every instance that
he's ever catalogued, from the magma para-elemental to the air elementals, each
one remained free from the perception of good or evil. They simply were beings
that embodied the elements, regardless of the influence of any plane, even the
positive or negative ones.

Because of his observations and his conclusion about elemental creatures, he
now has come to the belief that mephits are more akin to demons and possibly,
parasites, than they are to elementals. He's discovered that although they
wield elemental power, they seem to have extracted them, by one method or
another, from the planes in which they've taken up residence in. Maybe it's
the tattoos and various markings, maybe it's the consumption, he doesn't fully
understand but what is for certain is that they are not elemental beings.

After these months of study, he's finally come to the conclusion that he'll
depart from further research into the beings known as mephits and begin
searching for more unique entities that may actually be helpful to the light.
His first avenue for this is more research into the methods that Avello may
have used to come up with unique spellcraft but specifically, into the various
sprites and weirds that may exist amongst the planes.
