Description

At 6'5" tall, this mocha skinned man is much taller than most human's you've seen. His towering frame must be hard to keep nourished in these dark times of famine, as such he is quite thin, making his limbs appear to be even longer than they are. Juhmarcus peers down his long pointed nose, scanning left and right for any signs of trouble. His head is topped by an enormous puff of curly black hair, a full foot in diameter. A rice farmer's hat lays on Juhmarcus' back held up by the string around his neck. He wears a simple white tunic and his brown canvas pants come down to his mud covered boots. His arms are bare and muscular, and you can't help but notice scarring on his knuckles.

Role

Juhmarcus, An Overview

Added Mon Sep 21 20:42:41 2015 at level 1:
Juhmarcus is a freedom fighter of sorts. The fight is against unseen
political forces poised to control the minds of mankind through the
manipulation of the veil.

He has learned to dress as a commoner and blend in with crowds to try to
hide from the mages who would silence his voice.

He has lost his family name, initially to be safe, but now it has been
long since forgotten.

Journal Entry 1: The Awakening

Added Wed Sep 23 19:03:44 2015 at level 5:
If you're reading this then they've found me, and I am dead. I am writing
this in the hopes that later generations will find it, read it, and
finally know the truth about the veil.

It all started when I was a young boy of only 6 years old. I recall my
parents marching the streets of Hamsah with signs and papers of protest,
but I was much too young to understand. One stormy night a man came to
the door to speak to my father. I couldn't understand what was being
said, but the hushed tone and nervous glances told me it surely wasn't
good. The very next day they put me on a wagon, heading to the farmlands
of the north.

"I'm sorry son, you couldn't possibly understand" my father whispered
into my ear as he plopped me on the back of the cart.

"You must learn to fight them! Fight to thicken the veil and save our
land. That's why I'm sending you away. Its not safe for us here, but we
can't stop spreading the word. You'll learn to fight for the
cause...You'll learn to be safe" he continued on, as he gave me one last
hug. With a slap to the rump of the ox the cart pulled away, and that
would be the last I'd see of my parents.

After 2 long days of travel we arrived at the rice fields, and I met
master Oushu. Over the next 11 years he taught me much of the art of the
assassin: how to fight, how to blend in with the common people, but also
as I got older he told me much of my parents' teachings. It seems they
sent me away because they were in danger. The powers that be did not
appreciate being exposed. A short 3 years into my training Oushu gave me
the bad news. The mages had finally gotten to them. My parents were dead.

The thinning of the veil and the introduction of magic to Thera was no
random act of nature, or the gods. Powerful secret political forces came
together and forced the thinning of the veil for one purpose: complete
control of the world.

That's right folks, wake up. Magic is not for party tricks or favors. As
the veil thins the powers of mind control become more apparent. If the
veil were ever completely broken, the people of Thera would be no more
than putty in the hands of these secret political powers.

Sadly I've outgrown the trainings of master Oushu, and as I write this,
I've just moved to Galadon to continue my training. I also hope to find
some like-minded, and help educate the ignorant on the dangers of the
thinning veil.

Journal Entry 2: Tainted Food

Added Fri Sep 25 07:15:06 2015 at level 15:
It wasn't long after moving to Galadon that I started hearing stories of
one called Varnon, the commander of Battle. Apparently this "Battle" is a
whole village of folks who've recognized the dangers of magic and
dedicated their lives to wiping it clear off Thera. I had the honor of
speaking briefly with Varnon and he instructed me to go meet with a man
named Tahren in the Ruins of Ostalagiah, so I did.

This guy Tahren is quite the character! He's a grumpy old smithy who
stands outside the gates of the Battle village. You see, he has this
special gift to be able to see the invisible glow items get when they've
been doomed with the taint of magic. He'll inspect any damn thing you
give him, and if its magical he'll just bust it apart in a glorious
blaze, in his furnace and over his anvil! What a great man! I can't wait
to become part of this village, and be able to call him "friend."

During my stay in Galadon, I feel like my eyes have been pried open to
the horrors of the widespread use of magic. Just the other day I came
across a woman who needed some help. After helping her she rewarded me
with a sack full of trinkets, including a giant pile of a moss which she
insisted was delicious, but after giving it a whiff something seemed
inherently off about it. After consulting with Tahren, I found the whole
mess of moss to be tainted with magic! Disgusting! Right on the spot
Tahren melted the whole pile of it in his forge.

Its just crazy to think that this poor woman was handling and
distributing this stuff, unbeknownst to her. How devious that they would
even go so far as to taint peoples' food! I will tell her immediately so
she may dispose of the stuff.

People must know of the dangers! Be warey of any food you didn't harvest
yourself! Don't find yourself a mind controlled victim!

Journal Entry 3: A new family

Added Fri Oct 9 14:00:01 2015 at level 30:
Many moons have passed since I last opened this journal, and much has
happened since then. I am honestly quite surprised to still be alive. I'm
sure it won't be long before they take me out.

I've finally slain my first mages. The blood on my hands proved my value
to Varnon and the others in the village so I've been given a hut amongst
them. I couldn't possibly be happier. At last I have a home, and once
again I have a family!

I've yet to get any closer to knowing who is really responsible for
letting this disgusting mind control. Perhaps I should speak to the gods
to help me find answers.

Journal Entry 4: An odd new friend

Added Fri Oct 16 15:25:17 2015 at level 32:
After searching for some time for lord Arvam, I've come to find that he
has gone into slumber. Disapointed and searching for answers, one day I
came upon Lord Raltevio. Seeking divine insight to help find who is
behind this wicked plot, I asked for a moment of Raltevio's time to tell
him my story.

So I found Raltevio's villa, north east of Voralian. He asked to hear my
story, and cringed through the gory details. He seemed to be quite
interested in the mystery, but didn't seem to have any additional
information. He offered to keep an eye on me, but it seems I'll have to
do some work of my own to find some evidence of the plot.

Journal Entry 5: Study, Learn, and Execute

Added Thu Feb 18 15:21:07 2016 at level 44:
It has been too many years since I picked up this dusty old book, I've
been far too busy with the satisfying tedium of perfection. These last
years I've spent in secretive corners of the world, shutting out the
deafening din of mankind to focus on my art. In this time my knuckles
have grown hard as a rock, and my kicks as quick as an arrow. I feel I'm
now truly ready to serve the village to the greatest of my abilities.

The time had come to put all of this training to use. Time and again I
slipped through the shadows until I found a poor hapless mage, completely
unaware of my presence. Time and again I watched their movements closely,
sometimes for days, awaiting my opportunity to strike them down. Time and
time again, just as I was about to strike, my quarry disappeared as they
used their damnable magiks to travel far out of my reach.

Then one day I came across Darvoderis, an Imperial scumbag, prancing
about Galadon unaware. I spent nearly a day tracking his movements. He
spent quite a bit of time in his guild, which had me fearing he was
resting inside, not to come out again, but I stayed vigilant. I stood on
the balls of my feet, crouched around the corner he'd be sure to turn if
he were to leave. Then it happened, I saw him coming around the corner.

Quickly I stepped in front of Darvoderis, seeing the surprise on his
face. With a swift, fluid upswing I sliced his abdomen open. Collapsing
with shock and horror, he watched as his entrails spilled onto the
ground. Gripping my sword with both hands, I drove it through the poor
bastards back as he fell. As he gasped his final breath, I extracted my
sword.

At last, I could truly call myself an assassin.

Journal Entry 6: Changing of the Guard

Added Thu Feb 18 15:21:46 2016 at level 44:
Commander Varnon was a great man. It was he who granted me a hut within
the village, and on so many occasions forged my weapons to a fine sheen.
I, and the village as a whole, owe him a great deal. Sadly he has fought
his last foe, and drawn his last breath.

It is Battlerager tradition to hold a ceremony of rites to determine who
would be the next to hold the coveted title: Commander. I know deep down
that it is my fate to be a defender of the village, but not the
Commander. Even still I decided to take part in the rites, as it is a
proud tradition I'd only be likely to see once in my life: not to be
missed.

It is not my place to record the exact details of the secret rites, as
who is to say who may get a hold of this book when I am gone. Suffice to
say that there were great battles and tests of wit, and I'm proud to call
Torzen my new Commander, and Grimghal was named the new Drillmaster. Both
extremely powerful warriors who I'll be proud to defend to the end of my
days.

The rites were overseen by the likes of Lord Jormyr and Verathi. It was
truly inspirational to see them both in person. I was instantly awestruck
with the pride and precision which Lord Verathi carried himself. In my
searches for guidance from above, how foolish I was to not consider
Verathi. He teaches all that I hold dear.

If I am to be the greatest defender I can be, surely that path begins by
studying under Lord Verathi, and those studies begin today.
