Description
At first glance, you can instantly tell this is no ordinary Gnome; his build,
and the way he holds himself differs from the common Gnome. He is quite
obviously larger than most of his kind, towering at least a mighty inch over
the average height. He is also quite heavily built, not in fat, but for what
little mass this Gnome does have; it appears to be pure muscle. From the way
he stands, you can tell he is not your typical Gnomish peasant, or mage, he
seems tense, as if anticipating something, and his hand never strays far from
his weapon.
Looking up at his face, you find two brown, calculating eyes staring back
out; darting around in an attempt to take in everything at once. His slightly
scarred, but otherwise attractive face is surrounded by a mass of matching
brown hair, and like the rest of himself; you can tell he takes pride in his
appearance, washing it often.
Role
Forgotten Names

Jurtinal was the first child born into the family Sworthinaojin, a well-known
wizarding family in Hillcrest. With a long history in magic, Jurtinal was
expected to follow suit, and started studying at a very young age. In the
years that followed, Jurtinal gained six brothers, and two sisters, like
himself, they too were set studying at a very young age. However, it was
Jurtinal that all eyes were on, being the eldest, and male.
As the years went on, and the children grew, it became apparent that Jurtinal
was not magically adept as his parents, or siblings. His parents applied more
pressure on him, which only made him perform worse, and take it out on his
brothers. Because of Jurtinals poor magical ability, he developed in other
ways. Of the children, he was by far the most physically built, and he used
to his advantage, bullying his brothers continually.
More time passed, and finally Jurtinals parents gave up on him, and he was
outcast by the family, in a certain respect. He was now only tolerated, his
parents ignored him, Jurtinal was still feed, and always had a place in the
house, but his parents payed no attention to him anymore.
So Jurtinal turned towards the Warriors Guild, something that had always
fascinated him, and began training there.
Once again, the years flowed by, and Jurtinal turned his study to not only
warrior tactics, but once again, towards magic. Not the practical use of it,
but magic in itself, what it was, where it came from, and most importantly,
how to defend against it via mundane means. The more he learnt about magic,
the more it disliked it; he read about how it had destroyed families,
devastated cities, and eradicated entire civilisations. Now Jurtinal, like
most Gnomes did not believe in the traditional views on Good or Evil, but the
more Jurtinal continued his study on magic, the more he came to believe that
magic was Evil.
He turned his study to all sorts of areas, studying small magic-free tribes,
Priests and their supplications, to the great powers in the past, and what
they did. Each helped confirm his suspicions; magic was the true source of
Evil.
So finally after years of study and training, disgusted with what he saw all
around him in Hillcrest, and his family, Jurtinal packed up his belongings
and abandoned the city, his family, and his name. With a new goal in mind,
Jurt set out on his own, in search of what he had once believed to be a myth.
A band of fearsome, legendary fighters whose sole aim in life was to
eradicate magic from Thera; the BattleRagers.
Reasons for Service
Added Mon Nov 22 01:20:02 2004 at level 31:
As Jurts quest against Magic, and his application to the Village went well,
he turned his mind to other matters. Jurt has always had the upmost respect
for the Great Gods of Thera, and he always felt the need to repay them for
granting him the life he has. So Jurt began studying once more, but this time
his research was aimed at the God Jurt held above all others, the Wise Lord
of Reason, Phaelim.
There was one problem however, the Wise Lords religion placed much focus
upon Magic, unsure of whether this would hinder his service to the Wise Lord,
Jurt decided to seek him out, and speak with him on such matters first.
Shinkicker
Added Fri Dec 3 07:16:31 2004 at level 48:
Ever since leaving Hillcrest, Jurt had never had a family, or a full name,
but since joining the Village, he has found both. He now has brothers and
sisters whom he can make proud, and a name which he can answer to; Jurt
Shinkicker. Whether it was a joke or not, Jurt did not care, it was a name
given to him by the Great Bear Lord, and he would treasure it forever.
The Commander
Added Tue Dec 28 08:56:48 2004 at level 51:
In the recent years, Jurt has begun pondering Commander Iborenns ability to
the lead the Village. It all began with the War with the Spire. As far as
Jurt could tell the sole reason behind it was the Commanders hurt pride. The
Provost at the time had insulted the Commander, and the Commander instead of
dealing with it personally, ordered the whole Village to strike; wasting many
lives, and distracting them from their true cause. Many other recent
decisions have worried Jurt too.
Whenever Jurt brought such issues up, he was quickly reminded of his
position, and if such talk continued, Jurt knew he would be forced into the
Circle, where the Commander knew well that he could best Jurt.
Jurt spoke at length with his Lord on such matters, and tactics to defeat the
Commander. Jurt knows that something must be done with Commander soon, lest
the entire Village be damaged, though he cannot work out what.
