Description
Glaring at you with eyes formed of pure blackfire is a being that may
have once been of the half-elven races. Sparks of electricity cover his
body, while each step has the sound of splashing water following it. His
hair, or what was hair, is made of pure ice, and just sits atop his head,
motionless. His grin is full of malice, and you can make out teeth made
of pure stone, with sharp fangs dripping acid. So engrossed were you
with this being, that you just notice a slight breeze making a circular
motion around him. The rest of his body seems normal, although a bit
less corporeal than everything else around him. You shy away when his
gaze meets you, the blackfire flaring, almost angrily.

A young half-drow, short silver hair glistening with the low candle light
in the small summoning chamber, began the process of creating a large
circle of protection. Continuously glancing back at the stolen tome he
used, it's easy to discern this is his first time. He goes to complete
his circle by heading to each point of his star within the circle. He
puts the runes for each element on each point, sweat beading from his
brow, exerting himself, making sure it's all perfect. When he finished,
he went to stand at the place he had made for himself, another circle,
smaller, but just in case. He immediately went into the ritual of
casting, and was almost through when the guildmaster walked in his
summoning chamber, only to find a young student at work, against the
rules! He couldn't interrupt though, it would end badly, but he needed
to, he noticed many mistakes right away. When the ritual was complete, a
brilliant flash of light blinded the guildmaster, and the young student,
momentarily. What remained in the circle was a portal of some sort,
radiating power of all the elements, yet had some darker power outlining
it.
Broken Circle

Amazed, the young half-drow stared into the portal, and slowly reached
out to touch it. This was his chance, to go through the planes, and
witness the world he wishes to control. He took a step forward, and just
then, the guildmaster screamed. Distracted, the child looked away, and
just then, his circle gave way. He tried to fight it, but couldn't, no
mortal could, he was just pulled into the portal, into the planes. When
the portal disappeared, there was no more light, an eerie darkness
overtook the room, blocking all light for an instant, then the candelight
returned. The guildmaster instantly began recreating the circle, fixing
it, to bring his young and stupid student back to this plane. He only
hoped he could help him in time.
Planar Junction II

He was so lost. So hot. So cold. He felt some shocks. He was being
crushed. He could feel the energy from all the elemental planes. The
half-drow opened his eyes, and looked around, to see elementals of all
kinds surrounding him. They were intrigued, but more than that, they
were angry. They began tearing away at him, and he thought he was dead.
He never died, though. There was something else controlling them, they
had other plans. For each part of his flesh that was ripped away, he
could feel it replaced by some energy. He was ripped, torn, destroyed,
until all his flesh was replaced by elemental energies. When they
finished, they dispersed, and a dark, shadowy figure approached the boy.
All he did was touch the boy upon his head, and the boy knew everything,
and felt it. He felt the anger of the elementals when placed under the
service of the mortals. He felt the shadows need to reach the material
plane. He felt the power of this figure. When he went back, he would
still have his own flesh, but the energy will still reside within him,
and change his appearance. He would no longer be a controller of the
planes, but the elements. He would bring shadows to bear, fear to the
people, and destruction upon the material plane. He was their vessel of
vengeance.
Vessel of Vengeance

The old guildmaster had finally fixed the circle, and began casting
immediately to bring his young student back. He had to soon, or else
he'll be dead. He could be dead already. He finished casting the spell,
and the same portal opened. Using his magic, the guildmaster reached in,
and pulled the young boy out. For some reason, it was hard, and drained
him very much. Finished, he closed the portal, and went to check on his
student. When he looked, his face distorted in such a strange way. The
boy was almost incorporeal. He had sparks of lightning running around
his body, his eyes were replaced by ever burning fires, with blackfire
rimming them. His hair was pure ice, and a swirling wind seem to
overcome the room, giving everyone a slight breeze. He grinned, and his
teeth were made of stone, with acid as his saliva. With each step, a
little bit of water was heard splashing, and the fires in his eyes flared
when the boy looked upon his guildmaster. He began casting, and engulfed
the whole room in fire. Many days later, when an adventurer finally came
upon the guild, all he found was the charred corpse of some human, and
nearly destroyed arcane robes about his burnt body.
The Mummy

Sitting inside a small dwelling he had forced himself inside,
the demi-elemental looked at the poor residence whose corpses
twitched at his feet, sparks of electricity playing up and down
their bodies. He walked over to their feathered bed, and laid
his mortal body down for some rest. He awoke in the planar
rift, the space between the planes, to the same shadow towering
above him. The once half-drow simply stood there, and knew
that the being's hand was coming down to rest upon his head. He
felt it again, felt what the shadow wanted him to. He saw
visions, saw Thera, laid to ruins, then everything seemed to
rewind, to go back. It stopped at one point, a mummy stood
there, an army of zombies, ghouls, and other undead behind
him. His name was Tavlin. The shadow took his hand away, and
Kalsten once again just knew. He had to seek out this mummy,
and become one of the chosen. He must begin there, to gain
more power.
The Blackfire
Added Tue Sep 13 18:54:52 2011 at level 29:
Pouring through dark tome after tome, Kalsten the once mortal
Demi-elemental searched for the dark secrets he knew was his right to
know. The power of the Blackfire, fire touched by shadow. He glanced up
into the mirror he sat in front of, looking into his blazing eyes. He
must learn the secrets to control this blackfire, a gift that should've
been bestowed upon him from the start. In his anger, Kalsten didn't
notice the room turning dark, the light being sucked away slowly. By the
time he noticed, his blackfire eyes were the only "light" left in the
room. He gazed around the room, until he noticed it, a shadow darker
than the rest. He let the shadow walk in close to him, and once again
came that touch. Kalsten's head was filled with images of the Blackfire,
the power, the darkness that flowed from him when he cast it. He felt
it, the power was inside him, he just had to grow in power. Kalsten
looked at the shadow, more enlightened, feeling more powerful. He
nodded, and was sent back to the Material Plane.
The plane of Shadows

A desk sits here, with a ton of crumpled up notes here and there, but two
pages occupy the center, and seem most important
*************************************************
One pages seems to be a speech of some sort, with many scribbles and
extra words written, but the other which lies on top, looked like
research notes.
The power of the Blackfire still escapes me, but that does not worry me
at this time anymore. I have refocused my goals to a greater power.
Perhaps I could learn to channel power from the plane of shadow, of
darkness. I understand this may be the basis for the blackfire, but a
more pure, raw power of darkness could possibly be channeled. I could
possibly open a whole new path to those of my guild, but yet keep the
power for myself. Many possibilites could be unlocked...but first, I
must study a source from it. I must gain entrance into the Chasm...and I
must study one of their portals...to learn of the passage from shadows to
this realm. With this, I shall gain a power like no other!
