Description
The tall, lithe, being before you has a calm, almost serene look on his
marble white face. At roughly six feet tall he stands above most of his
Elven brethren. Long and straight, his auburn brown hair is pulled back
in two long braids falling midway down his back. His almond shaped eyes,
a vibrant deep blue, are opened wide to the world. His lips, pursed
together, are a slight red in color but stand out starkly against his face.
Clad in light clothes and armor while worn they appear well maintained as
the metal still glints as the light hits it.
Rough and unevenly tattooed over scar-tissue around his right wrist are
the words, "Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good."

As an orphan in Balator, Kalsuul felt like an outsider. But then, most orphans
do. He knew he was not the same person he once was (assuming so). He suffered
several years in the orphanage being depressed and alone. He never spoke a
word to anyone. But it was clear that he was very contemplative and observant
of his surroundings.
Kalsuul reminded himself daily what the healer had said to him. There were days
that it inspired him. And there were days when the words were meaningless.
Kalsuul knew that he had to stop feeling sorry for himself though. He has been
given another chance at life. He was saved. He decided he must figure out
where his destiny lies. To do anything less would be to shame those who
rescued him that day. It would shame himself. He would begin his rehabilitation.
Kalsuul approached Jaragh, which made Jaragh pleasantly surprised. Kalsuul didn't
even have to say a word. Jaragh seemed to sense something special about this
young Elf. He talked to Kalsuul about many things. Most importantly, that his
path would not be an easy one, but that he must not give up. He talked about
the importance of joining and interacting with the other orphans, and going
to classes, and to learn to be content with himself.
It took several months for Kalsuul to fully introduce himself to everything
the orphanage had to offer. And he spent several years learning. There came
a day finally, that Jaragh would explain to Kalsuul, that there was nothing
more he could teach. It was time for Kalsuul to find his destiny. He would
then apply for the Shapeshifter's Academy, where the purity of his heart and
soul would be tested. After learning the basic tenets, he was deemed a
worthy candidate to join the Shapeshifter Guild. This is where Kalsuul would
gain an introductory knowledge of Lady Baerinika--the guiding Light to his
birthsign.
Rescue

Kalsuul was one day rescued by a group of holy crusaders who were raiding
Aran'gird, to fight back the evil that spills from the unholy residence of
Duergar. The group came across the cell that Kalsuul was being detained in.
When they entered the cell to rescue him, Kalsuul backed into corner, unsure
of the strangers before him. It was a terrible and heartbreaking sight for
the crusaders to witness. To see an Elf mind so far gone. A Storm Giant
(healer) stepped towards Kalsuul, and began healing his wounds. The Giant
swept Kalsuul off the ground and into his embrace. The crusaders fell back
to the rear of the lines and away from the exposure to the fighting.
Kalsuul was one amongst many slaves rescued that day. The crusaders had
anticipated rescuing slaves, and had a group ready to escort the slaves
out of the Underdark. A dozen or so slaves traveled back with the Storm
Giant (healer) and Dwarf (paladin). The healer asked Kalsuul what his name
was, but he couldn't remember. It was a condition known as Post-Traumatic
Stress Disorder. His mind shut out many of his memories previous to the
capture. And so they decided to name him Kalsuul. Simple, though not very
Elvish. It is what he stuck with.
The group arrived to the Balator orphanage, where the once slaves could
hopefully be taken care of and salvage their lives. Kalsuul's reluctance
to leave the healer was a testament to the mental and physical abuse that
these slaves had to endure. One can only pray that there may someday be
a world without these evils. The healer set Kalsuul down and knelt before
him. The healer spoke, "I'll let you in on a little secret, Kalsuul. This
man (Jaragh) here can teach you everything you'll need to know. You may
hate those slavers, but that hate will never erase what happened. Nothing
will ever erase what happened. The scars you bear, they are your reminder.
It is about where you go from here Kalsuul, how you respond to your past,
and what you will accomplish in your lifetime. Do not be overcome by evil,
but overcome evil with good. Can do you do this for me?" And Kalsuul
responded with an acknowledging nod.
Slavery

Kalsuul grew up as one of the poorer, wilder Elves in the Vale outside of
Darsylon. Though the family had little money, one would be hard pressed
to call them poor--as they are rich with life. Kalsuul grew up in a close
family, with his mother, father and two sisters. They had a full child-
hood. On a typical day, they would do their chores. This consisted of
gathering various fruits, water, or running errands for the elders. Of
course they are all warned about the dangers that lurk amidst the valley.
Dangers that Darsylonians have to worry far less about.
Kalsuul found himself too close to the restricted area of the vale, and
was abducted by a group of Dark-Elf scouts. They covered his head with
a sack and bound his hands and dragged him into the Underdark. There in
the Underdark, Kalsuul was sold or traded off to a Duergar mining camp.
Elves were often of high value to them because of their ability to
handle mithril--unlike the male Dark-Elf slaves they purchase.
Kalsuul began a seven year troubled life as a slave to the Duergar--he
remains reserved of his past to this day, speaking very little of it to
those around him. Everyday was the same in the mining camp. Work hard.
Very little food and water. He would be beaten and raped. Lock him up
in his cell. Repeat. Kalsuul lost track of the days, weeks, months and
years during this time. There was no natural light. And for that matter,
there was no hope left in Kalsuul. All he wanted was to die.
He attempted to take his own life, having cut his wrist on a jagged rock.
During the process however, he was met by a spirit. Perhaps it was an
illusion of the mind--his sense of survival. Perhaps it truly was the
light of heaven. Either way, Kalsuul's soul was saved. He gritted his teeth
and decided not to give up. Never to lose faith.
From that day on, Kalsuul would just smile or laugh to himself whenever the
Duergar abused him. He would not shed another tear for them. He would not
give them that satisfaction. After a while, the Duergar were uninterested
in Kalsuul. The Duergar feed off of the hate and pain of others. And when
that was no longer there, the abuse lessened. They were dissatisfied by
him. This was Kalsuul's first victory.
