Description

You see a human before you. At a glance you would say he is a few inches below 6 feet though he is a little slumped over with age. His thinning grey hair falls in curls down to his shoulders in an unkempt way, it certainly doesn't look like it sees a comb in a long time. The face is mostly unremarkable but there are many lines beneath his eyes and his lopsided grin pushes permanent creases out to the sides of his mouth. The eyes still look sharp however even if he appears to be squinting a little. He is a rather lean looking fellow and his robes such as they are, appear somewhat faded with age though oddly are covered in many water stains.

Kastari yelped as the sword whacked into his hand causing his own
weapon to fall to the ground. As he bent down to pick up the weapon
he felt a heavy boot kick him in the backside causing him to tumble
unceremoniously to the ground, taking a mouthful of dirt in the
process.
'Never, never take your eyes off your opponent' a rough voice said
as he rolled over.
Kastari audibly sighed as he grabbed the offered hand and was dragged
back to his feet.
His brother looked him over before releasing his hand and none to
gently patted the dirt from his shoulder chuckling to himself.
'You know Kastari, perhaps its time you give this up, you do better
with a book in your hand rather than a blade'.
Kastari wiped some of the dirt from his eyes before poking his tongue
at his brother in a rather childish way before stumbling his way out
of the training circle.

But Kastari knew his brother was right. Both his parents were members
of the guard, and it was expected their children would follow in their
footsteps. And of their 5 children, only one seemed almost out of place.
Try as he might Kastari just didn't have the coordination, or the strength
or that special something that his 4 brothers did.
He trained almost as much as they did, though lately it had been getting
harder and harder, his mind distracted by the new books he had been
introduced to.

A begining

Added Tue Mar 2 03:12:03 2021 at level 11:
One of his tutors had introduced him to the study of magics. And Kastari
had been quick to lap up the numerous books available to him. It certainly
wasn't of interest to the rest of his family, but there was something
there that just called to him.
As the months past Kastari stepped further back from the physical training
with his brothers. His parents were supportive, and although they didn't
understand his attraction to the magical arts they believed in their son
and of course it brought them joy to see something that excited him when
the feats of arms so clearly was a lost cause.

As he began to learn more about the many types of magics, the lure of the
elements drove him to the guild of Invokers where with his family's backing
he enrolled to officially begin his training.
With time Kastari hoped to become skilled like his siblings just in a different
way. He had the same convictions as them, and hopefully would one day join 
at their side, perhaps with a wand or stave instead of a sword.

The Fortress

During his time with the Galadon guild of Invokers, Kastari travelled a lot. Often
taking up contracts to earn his keep, whilst learning to evolve his magical fighting
style along with the spells he was slowly acquiring. He hunted wolves in Aldevari,
took down bandits near Hamsah, and even had an open contract to destroy demons on  
Loch Grynmear.

All the while he heard of the Fortress, and the Maran of the Brigade. Originally he
had thought of joining his brothers with stave in hand, guarding the cities from 
evil doers. But that now seemed short sighted. The world was bigger than the cities
and Kastari had seen first hand that evil was just as prevalent in the deserts, the
forests and even the mountains and lakes. If he could hunt down and destroy that 
evil, then surely in turn, that would prevent that evil leeching into the cities his
family had sworn to protect.

So it was that Kastari pledged himself to the Fortress. Now he needed to hunt in 
earnest to prove his worth.

A Squire

Added Sat Mar 6 17:35:38 2021 at level 20:
Kastari was first blooded in a battle with one of his own guild. The dark invoker had
been in Akan with the intention of slaying the good dwarven folk there. He had somehow
talked a gnome thief into joining him, but the thief at least did not pursue Kas as
the battle spilled out onto the eastern road. Icicles and walls of fire were thrown about
as the two invokers traded spell after spell. In the end it was perhaps pure luck, but
a fierce wall of fire finally broke down the dark invokers defences and he succumbed to 
the flames.
Many emotions coursed through Kas as he collapsed from the battle. Relief and joy at 
surviving, sadness at taking anothers life, pity for others who shared their life with
the fallen.

But he knew in his heart that it had to be done. He had to look at it as saving lives
rather than taking them. Everyone of those wicked souls he took down meant innocents
could live free. It was the only path to victory over the darkness.
After the first victory came others, none of them were easy but Kas just kept on thinking
of those he had likely saved.

One day the Maran Tara'bal called to him based on recommendations of one of the Brigades 
Maran Paladins. After an interview Kastari found himself a member of the Fortress, his new
home.
His life as a Squire had begun.
