Description

The massive figure of Keara is before you. He wears his seaweed colored hair in a tight, shoulder length braid, a small coral clasp visible at the end. His azure skin is pulled taught over stout muscles, skin no longer unmarred by blades of war. Even the darker skin of his face is scarred, a small line from lower lip to chin, another above his brow. Emerald green eyes rest evenly below thin, dark eyebrows, the ends of which are showing the first lines of age. An assortment of armors cover his body, both old and new, few seemingly fit to his long limbs. Closer inspection reveals bits of sea life tangled within his clothing and armor, seashells, urchins, and barnacles, though long dead, still very attached in folds of cloth and out of the way metal. You notice a pair of blades, hanging loosely from hips slowly widened with age, and several more handles can be seen about his body. Looking closer, you note that

Role

Starting Somewhere

Added Thu May 16 15:40:32 2013 at level 1:
Keara hails from the Aryth Ocean. She is about as gentle as storm giants
come, always willing to lend a helping hand to those in need, a word of
compassion in times of strife, and a shoulder (usually after kneeling or
sitting when with outsiders) to cry on. Though she is the pious sort, her
talents have never lent themselves to the finer arts of healing and communion
with the gods. Supplications and prayers are beyond her, save for those she
is able to whisper to the wind, hoping someone somewhere might heed her call.
As such, there is only one craft at which Keara excels, to a degree at least
and mostly because of her physical strength, that will allow her both to
protect her tribe and the innocent travelers of the sea her people encounter,
and to explore the lengths and depths of the ocean. That of the blade.
Despite her reticence to commit violence, she has proven fairly capable with
the implements that cause it.

Coming of age, Keara has been feeling the urge to spread the word of the
Light and protect those in need, guiding her from her home. She surely feels
some sorrow at parting ways, but she knows that her skills will be put to
much greater use in the reaches of Thera, where things are not nearly so safe
as amongst her own tribe. Evil is rife throughout the lands, and Keara will
not sit idly by while it continues to corrupt Thera, sickening the lands and
weakening people, tearing down at their hopes and beliefs. Keara hopes to
strengthen the resolve of both those with whom she stands shoulder to
shoulder and those who are trodden upon.

For now, Keara seeks a place amongst the Acolytes, to help protect both the
Maran and Thera's citizens, and to increase her ability to commune with the
gods. Her hope is that by studying with other Acolytes she can gain knowledge
of the gods of Light, find their favor, and use it to spread their will. She
hopes that the strength of her convictions will endure, that she will be a
force for good.

Added Thu May 16 15:41:15 2013 at level 1:
-she is of kind heart, gentle, and compassionate

-she fights only to protect the innocent or defend her comrades
-she seeks a closer link with the gods of Light via life as an Acolyte
-she is always willing to give charitably, even at cost to herself
-she hopes to show that strength comes from within, and from your allies

I am a stronger spirit today

Added Sat May 18 07:56:38 2013 at level 12:
I met a man today, a human woodsman named Aster. It was quite the experience,
talking with the little fellow. He put into words feelings I have had before,
but have never been able to express. It was the first time I thought I
understood what a spirit was, because I was looking at a kindred soul (when
he wasn't hiding in the darn bushes) that just happened to be a few feet
shorter than me.

I had a sword I couldn't use, and he could put it somewhere safe. That is all
it was that got us started down a path I did not know I would find in my
life, but dreamed I might. We talked about hopes, we talked about the Light,
we talked about storms. Our thoughts seemed to be so in tune it was quite
like talking to a circus mirror aboard the Aquavia Montage, all short and
funny, but the image within showing a strength of passion I hope to possess
as well. One that I do believe I possess.

He also talked about a Captain. When he first brought it up, I thought he
meant of the Brigade, because a great deal of our talk was the Fortress. It
seemed to make him quite happy that I aim to become a Scribe, and perhaps one
day an Acolyte, within the walls of the Fortress, and also outside those
walls, spreading the word of the Light to all of Thera. This Captain, though,
is the Lady Neltouda, the calm, the tempest, the reflection within. Hearing
the words that flowed from my mouth like a stream as I spoke with Aster, I
realized that my strength, the thing that guides me to the Acolytes of the
Fortress, is being the calm before the storm. The Maran are the wrath of the
Light, they are the storm. But there must always be a calm near the tempest,
lest it rage out of control and become that which it once fought. There must
be time for thought, for reflection, after the storm has passed, after the
battle is fought, and won.

Strength of muscle will get me through life.

Strength of spirit will guide me through life.

Demons and the Undead

Added Sat May 18 07:58:14 2013 at level 12:
Two words that would send a shiver up my spine when I was a little girl,
demons and undead. I cannot remember a story with both, but Thera is a big
world, and I know it is out there happening somewhere.

I met a fellow in Voralia named Jolinar. He required help with some demons
that were over-running the Loch nearby. I made my way up there, and to my
dismay, he words were understated. There were demons swimming in the depths
of the water and on the crests of waves. I did not know where they were
coming from, at first, but my legs happened to carry me to a trail and I made
my way into the Temple of Loch Grymnear. There too, an inquiry was made about
helping, though this time it was more than just demons. People are missing!

Though I am yet to find those missing, I did what Jolinar required. I was
both proud, and a bit saddened, that such coin could be spent on a mercenary,
even one of the Light, for a task that should be done out of the goodness of
heart. The streets of Voralia are clean and there seems to be little by way
of need. That is not true in Galadon, where stray dogs wander, and beggars
live on the street. Perhaps when I am older, I can speak with Jolinar, or if
there is someone in charge of finances for Voralia, about the possibility of
sending some aid to Galadon to help the dire situations of some folk.

I digress, lost in my own thoughts like usual. Damned that Aster for showing
me this pipeweed! Where was I? Oh, demons and undead. Like I was saying, when
I was a girl those were words and stories that scared me. But now, I am
stronger. Perhaps not strong enough to fight anything and everything, but my
spirit and heart grow ever stronger, and I know that standing with my
brothers and sisters of the Light, we can cleanse the darkness in light. The
Maran will crash upon the armies of undead, the demons from the depths, as
and spirits like Aster, and maybe myself, will guard the rear, and stand in
front of the Maran when even they must rest, when they must be reminded that
the fight is not the goal, but the path to it.

What Keara wishes Thera knew II

-that she truly wishes to become a member of the Fortress Acolytes
-that she is starting to learn the strength of her own spirit
-that the Lady Captain Neltouda, and her beliefs, are reflected in Keara's

-that she hopes to one day help the needy of Galadon, much like Voralia

Change

Added Fri May 31 23:30:57 2013 at level 32:
Things do not change, we change. The war wages immortal, darkness trying to
overtake the light while it in turn tries to shine into the deepest chasms.
How we view that war, its participants, who we are, seems to me a constant
evolution. We do not walk out of the storm the same as we walked into it.

I am a Scribe now, one day perhaps an Acolyte. But I do not need to be that
in name to be that in heart. 'Though you are gifted with the powers of life
and light, you walk in a world of death and darkness. You are the shield of
light. Protect those of the Light, and stand fast against the forces of the
Darkness.' One not be an elder of the Fortress, an Acolyte in name, to have
these words strengthen the heart, to help fortify both self and allies in
these dire times. Awed and overwhelmed am I at the sight of my brothers and
sisters laying their lives on the line for each other.

The book of scribes says, 'Pay close attention to the defensive training of
the Brigade, learn the techniques well, but also know that no defense is
perfect.' This resonates with me. We must prepare for and not be afraid of
the present storm, but also remember to look to the coming sun. For it will
rise again and again, and as the storms pass, life too will blossom, and the
heart and mind will be able to relax, knowing the battle is won for now.

Reflections of a storm

Added Thu Jun 6 22:31:22 2013 at level 34:
I am a storm, both by blood and by nature. I am the calm before the storm,
preparing my blades for a seemingly unending war of protection against the
depths of the darkness, strengthening both my heart and spirit, and hopefully
those around me. I am the epoch of the storm, the pinnacle when the lightning
strikes hardest, the thunder booms loudest. And I am the serenity after the
crashing of elements, my spirit calmed in reflection of action and words,
striving to better understand how and why, and how to better myself and those
around me.

A storm's origin

Added Thu Jun 20 02:45:11 2013 at level 41:
When I was a little girl, an idea that would make Corlx or Brakrar die from
laughter I'm sure, my grandfather called me his shadow in the light. Not that
I misbehaved or any such thing, just that I stepped on his heels more than
once. Every day. It was easy to follow him everywhere too. Not that my
parents weren't worth looking up to, because they truly were. It's just that
he embodied everything I hope to stand for, that I believe I do stand for.
Strength of spirit, of mind, of body. Belief in his convictions to the
fullest.

He always told me I had the strongest kadis he ever felt in his life. The
fire, the spirit within me. He said it was so strong it would never be put
out, not in the darkest of times. That's why I was his shadow in the light.
Wherever I was, brightness he said, would always follow.

Even though he was able to heal others, much like many in my family, and I
was and still am unable to heal others, beyond the words of my heart, at
least, he always taught me to be prepared for the storm. Whatever the storm
ended up being, either the literal thunderous claps in the sky and stinging
rains, or the flood of needy folk who might happen upon us in the ocean. He
always demanded I be prepared for the possibility of what might come, no
matter what that thing might be. And so I am, coin always on hand for others
to use for healing, or provisions. And my satchel too, is often full to the
brim with things I and others can use before, during, and after battles.

The calm before the storm, when the spirit and mind are able to be at ease
with both self and Thera. These things, this preparation of spirit and body,
enable me to deal with the storms life brings. The crashing of weapons upon
armor and flesh, the smell of fire-singed clothing, as well as the inevitable
fall of comrades during war, the wave of emotions that can fell the strongest
warriors at the wrong time. I learn the skills of my guild, and others as
well, to better understand how to proceed during the confusion of fighting.

And finally he taught me to take time to reflect. Reflect on everything, if
there is time, but never forgetting the important lessons to be gleaned from
life. That a great deal can be learned from remembering battles fought, both
won and lost. Especially lost. And that part of that is the actions of those
around you in battle, foe and ally alike, not just in the heat of battle, but
how they carry themselves, how they might anticipate, or overcompensate, or
underestimate. This reflection is of action, of interaction, to better
ourselves, and to help lessen the next calm before the storm, to better focus
in a shorter time, so the next tempest can crash even harder.

-she will fight for what she believes is right, and defend the light always

Ebani in Hell, and Out

Added Tue Jun 25 22:44:06 2013 at level 48:
It is my fault. Well, he is a grown man, and can make his own decisions. But
surely my presence and words more than prodded Aster to pull a card from the
deck. I told him I did, three times, and I came out unscathed. My poor ebani.
He pulled one, and to Hell he was sent!

I know his intentions were good, and in the moment they seemed sound. Perhaps
spending so much time with the Lord of Luck's followers has clouded our
judgement a bit, making us feel we are lucky by proxy. But luck was not with
us, or the fates were set and this was a test for both he and I.

Regardless of how, the what is my ebani was gone, unable to hear my words,
and me his. I did not know my heart could ache so much. I did not know I
possessed such dark thoughts, a willingness to do anything to see him free. I
would have swum across the river, boatman be damned (me as well, I suspect
would have happened). I would have taken every axe Thera had, and I would
surely have broken through the damned gates myself. I would have done
whatever it took to get through the depths to find him, and free him of his
imprisonment. Perhaps I am lucky though, because I was kept from letting my
emotions cloud my judgement beyond repair. If not lucky, I am fortunate, and
truly blessed.

Blessed because so many heard my cries for help, to achieve the seemingly
impossible, a rescue of Aster from the fifth circle of Hell. Many expressed a
desire to aid, not to see Hell or gather things, but to gather ebani. The
love and adoration expressed rocked my foundations, I did not know so much
could be directed towards one person in need. There is a true beauty to Thera
I did not see until my eyes were opened by true fear. Fear of not just losing
my ebani, but of his spirit and soul being lost for the ages, subject to the
darkest torments of evil.

Blessed too, because the Lady Tempest, Captain Neltouda, saw fit to help
Aster escape. Or Bannon did, and the Captain decided that Bannon's efforts
should not be in vain. No matter, the mouse led Aster, and it was to freedom.
And for that, the ache in my heart eased, my spirit brightened again.

Warrior Body, Healer Spirit

Added Tue Jun 25 22:45:09 2013 at level 48:
The winds of fate decided I would be a warrior, no matter how many priests
and priestesses have claimed bloodlines in my family. Ah, but fate, how I
have tried to deny you!

I have furthered my training in my guild, as I suspect all warriors do when
the opportunity presents itself. I have chosen two things that I believe will
make me a healer, at least a tiny one. Well, tiny healing in a big body.
First, the monks taught me Whispers of the Great Siege. This, combined with
the other lessons I've learned from my guildmasters about healing myself
quickly, allows me the opportunity to enter the fray of battle with far less
resting. This in turn will allow me to to heal others through my new learned
altruistic powers, granted after Lady Baerinika decided I was worthy of the
cloak of the Acolytes.

The second lesson the monks taught me was Soul of the Mountain. Through their
tutelage, I have learned to endure more pain than others. The pain is not
lessened, but my spirit is strong enough to withstand the bodily assault.
Together with the various ways I have been taught to recover more quickly,
the healer within me can truly come out. If others stand at the fore during
battle, I can takes their afflictions upon myself, and being healthy and
healing more quickly will allow me opportunities to do this often during war.

I might be a warrior on the outside, but I am a healer on the inside.

Water on the Rocks

Added Sat Jul 27 18:05:29 2013 at level 51:
Pebbles and boulders, streams and rivers. Sometimes the rock is easily moved,
even shaped. Other times it diverts the flow of water, not stopping it, just
changing its course. There is flow but it is not always constant, at times
but a trickle, others a raging torrent.

Touching Lives. Helping Souls. Maintaining old strengths, learning new ones.
Finding love. Being a presence in Thera. A warrior and healer known for
aiding any who call for it, living a life touched by so many great spirits.
Using mind and heart to better understand the lands and its peoples, to craft
thoughts into words with true meaning, or jest.

These are the ways I can be water upon the rocks, a spirit known for shaping
others, ever finding a path forward.

To be great is to be many things to many people, perhaps as many greats as
there are people. I might not ever be Thera's greatest warrior, but I will
one day be the greatest warrior I can be. Nor will I ever be Thera's greatest
healer, because well, swords. But I can be Thera's greatest warrior-healer,
and that I will. And if, or perhaps when, I do accomplish that, becoming a
better warrior, and best warrior-healer, perhaps Thera will not learn, but
know the name Keara Taisteala, daughter of Joran and Isdentila.

Crashing of Storms and Spirits

Added Thu Sep 12 14:16:59 2013 at level 51:
As time stretches on, I have come to learn of worry, of loss, of sorrow. But
I too have learned the nearly unparalleled heights that hope, joy, and love
can lift a spirit. The strength granted through friendship. The storms that
are our lives crash together, often violently. But sometimes we are lucky, or
fortunate, or perhaps blessed, and two cycles become like one, and we are
awed by the beauty and power of the elements as they light a darkened sky. If
we are like the Lord of Luck, perhaps it happens twice or three times.

There was a time in my life where I tried to change my direction, but the
wind got in my way. A little elf, beautiful, brazen, delightful to be around,
seemingly fluttered into my world. Or I into hers, but more lumbering, as it
was me who came to her to talk of protection and hope and the Light. She
guided me as an Elder when I was young, forced me to think beyond the
immediate. As I grew older she helped me understand how important each
person, and their place in the bigger picture, was in our battle against
darkness. She guides me still as my friend sharing wisdom, but also so much
joy and hope.

Order in the Chaos

Added Thu Sep 19 06:26:50 2013 at level 51:
We each must weather storms in our lives. Small ones that we can dance around
but also the larger storms. Some we see coming on the horizon giving us time
to prepare for the onslaught. Others though, we are caught out in the open.
Even in these storms, refuge can be found, if one has the strength.

Control of the storms is beyond me. Standing tall against such forces is not.
And if I am able to push forward long enough, I might happen upon the calm
within the storm, the eye. It is here that one can see the chaos of Thera
happening all around, yet still find peace. It is here that I can calm myself
and prepare for my next steps into the elements.

Melancholy and Hope

Added Fri Sep 19 00:35:01 2014 at level 51:
How does one reconcile half a lifetime in mere words? Especially me? Perhaps
one of the great writers of Thera could put it to pen, and eloquently. Me?
Ha. Here goes. Oh, I ate the grapes. Quite the change.

My heart is split, twin storms battling fiercely for my essence, my spirit
yearning to remain calm before it all, anguished for everything that is lost
to me but just as hard burning to improve myself, prove myself.

I have been fortunate, nay blessed, to have experienced the strong souls and
beautiful spirits the winds have blown me towards, or perhaps towards me. My
ebani, Aster, gone so long now. Tok and Kazz. The wild ones Azhelak and
Brakrar. Alauviel. So many others.

My lothlorien. In my thoughts while I wake, in my dreams while I sleep. I
close my eyes yet still feel your glow, your warmth. You are the light of my
life, forever and always.

I know now that part of my heart will never be the same for the losses I have
experienced. But perhaps that means I have lived decently enough, that I
should have been blessed with such greatness in my life for so long.

But still, the other half of my heart beats for the life I live, for the Lady
Baerinika has decided that I am worthy of being the Elder Prophet. And it has
bestowed in me an excitement I have not experienced in some time, knowing
that I have the opportunity to guide others in their lives, to help quell the
usually small differences within the halls of the Fortress, and restore
strength in times of great turmoil. Though I know deep within me that if I'm
half the Prophet that Andira was, I will have done a decent enough job.

Two storms, one body, the spirit within striving to remain steadfast in the
winds, drawing strength from the past, hoping yet for more for the future.

The Strength of Winds

Added Fri Sep 19 09:28:02 2014 at level 51:
It has been too many years since I last spoke to you my Lady Captain, last
saw you. For that, I can blame only myself. The winds pushed me towards a
path far from the ocean, where the fresh water of streams and rivers is a
lifetime from the salted waters of the open sea. A place of stone protected
from the elements. But still, I felt it in our halls, the gentle breath of
the coming storm on my skin, always present but so often kept at bay. And now
I have been thrown into a true storm, having become the Elder Prophet of the
Fortress, tasked with guiding spirits young and old, those wild and still
forming, those set dead in their ways.

I did not think I would ever be in such a position, truthfully, was content
even to help from the background. Or so I thought. How mistaken I was.
Because my heart again races, smiles bringing even more lines to my face, as
I interact with the young of Thera, help them prepare for their lives in the
midst of so much turmoil.

Still, I aim to be the calm before, hoping to instill in my young charges,
and even those more set in their ways, a sense that preparation might well
help turn the tide against the most ominous of storms.

And though the storms themselves are chaotic in nature, there is a true sense
of order found in attempting to prepare for them. And even in the harshest of
storms, a calm can be experienced within, the eye of the storm a place one
can truly see things for what they are, where one can use a moment of
solitude to find the strength to carry on, no matter what the winds might
bring, where the winds might blow.
