Description
A horrible, disheveled figure with limbs extended to alien and ghoulish
proportions is before you. Milky, blackened eyes peer out from hollow rotten
sockets, and flies hover around the dripping ichor that runs in streams down
his hollow cheeks. Taut, leathery gray flesh covers his sinewy frame, and
unholy power surges through his muscles making them twitch erratically. His
face is a mask of horror, needle like teeth jut out past his drawn back lips
giving him a sinister grin. Pieces of bone and flesh can be seen between the
teeth and the stench in his area is horrible. The robes of a master mage are
draped around this unwholesome figure, and the purest cursed and unholy aura
seems to emanate from the very ground as he passes. Wicked claws of yellowed
bone and nail are covered in adipocere and dried gore. What hair he once had
has left save for a long thin braid of white hair left in a topknot falling
from the back of his head to his waist. Looking closer at this beacon of the
unholy, you notice...
Role
Chaotic Deathbringer... as a boy, anyway.

When he was a boy, he was a citizen of one of the smaller villages within the
protectorate of Galadon, just on the outskirts to the south. He was an orphan
from a very young age, and neither he nor his caretakers had any knowledge of
who his parents were. For all they knew, he simply sprang up from the ground,
dirty, and in an even dirtier basket.
He always was a bit 'dark' as they say, mostly his sense of humor, but also
in is general demeanor and morality. He had what you would call a very loose
moral compass, though it was based on a very philosophical mindset as well.
He realized that he existed, because he could think... and therefor the needs
of others were not secondary, they were for all he knew nonexistent. How
could he know them, after all? And so what use worrying about them.
His... we'll call it 'outside of the box' thinking... often got him in
trouble. Initially, the work program through the orphanage had set him up to
be a farmhand as a boy. He would muck stalls and shovel hay from bale to
feeding trough and so forth. It was discovered that there were a great deal
of rats living beneath the distantly spaced floorboards of the barn where the
hay was kept, working their way in to the silos. So one weekend, when left
alone to deal with it, he came up with a novel approach...
First, he hired a few starving beggars from the city with promises of a half
sack of grain each to help him remove all the hay from the barn. The plan
that followed would have SURELY been folly otherwise. Next, he located every
hole in the ground outside and in that he could find. Lastly, he collected
fallen lanterns from the city so as not to exhaust the farms supply of oils
and poured what liquid remained into a handy spouted container normally used
to water house plants. He poured the terrible liquid into the holes at
length, filling the rat hovels with the volatile substance, and lit it
ablaze. Within minutes, flaming rats erupted from the holes in a fury and ran
in all directions. To the hay bales outside. To the grain silo. To the
farmhouse...
Now, surely it could be said he was a successful exterminator. But thus ended
his career as a farm hand. Through a series of mostly accidental coincidences
afterwards, he was led to follow this vein as an exterminator and marker of
death, and put his various 'outside of the box' talents to work in the mages
guild, specifically that of Death Magic. His mentor in this was a chaos mage
of some great power, and through him he would find his way to study while
spreading the seeds of destruction to the orderly through the Barons.
Origins of BoneGnaw - Baby BoneGnaw
Added Sat Jul 15 15:03:42 2017 at level 41:
Chaos in Thera grants that almost anything that can happen, will happen. The
many celestial bodies viewed from the Prime Plane such as the Crab, the
Unicorn, the Maiden, The Burning Eye and so forth are a type of this
evidence. As are the myriad of strange life forms and those that certain
sects might deem as unnatural, such as golems and the undead. But none of
this can truly fall outside of the realm of natural, as anything that can
happen and does is merely part of this very nature.
And not apart from this is our hero Kehdpel BoneGnaw. Though city records
would show him as an orphan adopted at a very young age, there was still a
time before that where such a chaotic chance brought him closer to the path
he was on.
If one followed the rivers coming from Targeth's Manor to their origins and
then follows them subterranean to the north they will end at what was once a
small coven of chaos mages from a more primitive time long buried by the
movements of the earth that created the Shadow Peaks. The last of these mages
uttered upon his last breath, and in fact as a means of making it his last
breath, a ward to protect and make eternal his comrades. And so the nest of
wights, ghouls, skeletons and wraiths of chaos was born there, depending of
course on their state of decay in the grave mound held at the coven at the
time. The ward both animated them, and prevented them from leaving.
It was this unlikely place that Kehdpel was actually raised as a small child,
though only for a short time. One can imagine that though such mages may at
some level wish to impart their lessons so that they might continue their
legacy outside of this small place, they were also once intelligent and now
would be keenly aware of their dark hunger for the flesh and bones of the
living.
Kehdpel made an excellent student, and even joined them in the consumption of
bones and adipocere and other weird charnel things from animals, wanderers,
and things that washed up from the stream. He learned to control chaos and
death magic even then, without any use of language, and the dead there
delighted at his natural talent. But after a decade or so, it became apparent
that to avoid him becoming the next meal before long, he had to be sent away.
Packed in to a basket of washed up floating reeds, he was sent with wind
magic up stream to float to somewhere safer to expand his teaching wherever
chaos landed him next.
