Description
The man before you has a face that is beautiful in the way
all elven faces are beautiful. His features are fine, delicate.
At first glance he appears a bit wild, even exotic. His long
hair is silver, and falls unbound down his back. Threaded
through his hair are crystals and beads of various designs,
which chime and click together to make a song that seems
to follow him everywhere. His eyes are the dark, hypnotic
grey of black pearls. His gaze is sharp, direct. He looks at
you with curiosity but no fear. His lips quirk, as if a smile
comes easily to him. His eyes change between a dark look
of brooding and a twinkle of amusement, as if perhaps he
is perpetually entertained by his surroundings.

Purity. Even for one striving to lead a pure life, it seems Ive had a
bit of difficulty defining what it really means. Several times I have
been visited in the shrine of the Jaguar, and both times my eyes were
to be opened wider by my lady, Baerinika.
To be pure means many things, maybe more for one person than
the next. The jaguar lady has stated that she took no drink or lover
in her mortal life, and I have copied that in part. No alcohol have I
taken, ever. Moreover, it occurs to me that a life of purity must be
a life of consistency. I didnt grasp this until a bit of nudging, or a
nip I should say, served as a painful reminder. No lie, big or small,
harmless or malicious, can be accepted, for such seemingly small
untruths open the path to dishonor, malice, and a lack of regard for
others.
Purity is to never lose sight of what drives you, and not allowing
others to distract you or pull you from your purpose. What path in
life one may have chosen matters little, so long as it is righteous.
The purity lies in pursuing relentlessly your goals, whatever they
may be. As the jaguar stalks its prey and cares not for the buzzing
of flies or the cries of the wildlife, so too must one be impervious
to the obstacles one comes across.
Purity.
Such an easy word, easily lived and hardly expressed. I shall try
and show with my actions the purity I have found, as words often
fail me at the most inopportune moments.

Casually I leaned against the rock wall of the canyon, awaiting the
arrival of Ralkfahr. It was rumored he was a Scion, or at the least a
minion. Either way, it wasnt as I I needed much convincing before
happily presenting myself as a blade in his side. Well, an icy shard
in the side, perhaps. I guess being a bit lazy in my adventures was
a good thing, in this situation. None other within the Fortress were
young enough to assault him.
I could see the Maran a short distance away, standing as he always
did before the darkness. His vigilance seemed eternal, his courage
a steadfast reminder of what I have sworn to do with my life. With
a small shake of my head that set the crystals and beads in my hair
to chiming musically, I contemplated the conversation I had had a
few days earlier with Baerinika. My Lady had frowned upon some
of my words, and asked me again to define what purity meant.
I began to ponder the deepest meaning of the word, as obviously I
had been unable thus far to explain it well enough, but at just that
moment I was interrupted by the arrival of the death knight. I was
filled again with the thrill that always accompanies me into battle,
and almost began dancing as I sauntered up behind him. Quickly I
raised a barrier in front of me, and as I raised my hands and threw
they became covered in ice even before the shards were formed
and released into the back of the fire giant..
In a matter of moments, the anti-paladin was scrambling down the
canyon beating a hasty retreat. I quickly gave chase, hopping over
my own deadfall and wondering how he had missed it before I saw
him make a few quick gestures and vanish, teleporting to some far
off area of the land. I laughed once, kicked a rock in the direction
he had disappeared, and returned to my contemplations..
Loyalties and service.

I have given myself to Baerinika, my Lady.
I do not know if she knows it, yet. I have yet to speak
with her. I was at the gathering. I had the good fortune
to be able to kneel before her, to watch as she stood in
front of her followers.
Soon I will seek her out, in the shrine that I sometimes
visit, to leave small gifts for her. For now, I simply do
what I can to represent her well, until such a time as I
can stand before her with no weakness and beg for her
blessing.
My spirit stands before the darkness, unwavering. My
gift belongs to Thar-Eris. I hunt without mercy those
who would harm these lands, the vile and dark magic
that would corrode all around it. My loyalty belongs
to the Ancients, to those who dwell as I do within the
tree.
And I belong to the Jaguar.
Keren Haze
Brief history, small rant.

Who am I, you ask? As I stated before, my name is Keren Haze.
Is that the name I was born with? Somewhat. I have forgotten all
I could of who I was, of where I am from. My story is really very
simple.
I was born in the Palace of Darsylon. Am I a kings son? No, no.
Not quite that auspicious. But I am someones son. Of that, you
can be sure. As I am now, I was then. .quite beautiful. I say this
not to boast. I am stating facts. There was much promise for me
in Darsylon. I became a student even earlier than was normal, a
benefit of my parenting.
I am quite powerful. Im not the most skilled or the most wise of
mages, so do not expect to hear of me in the great stories that the
bards will spin. Perhaps time and experience will shape me into a
force to be respected. I do not pretend to know.
Among us there are those who remember the ancient days. Ones
who have been taught by their elders what has been passed down
for longer than I have lived, or will live. I shall not reveal them to
you. One resides within Darsylon. He seeks out those who would
not turn their backs on our true heritage, our charge. It is for this
reason that elves are so gifted. Again, I do not boast. I am stating
fact.
For years I listened to his words. His teachings are a part of me,
and they will be a part of my children. I will never take a student
who doesnt wish also to know why we are given this power.
Suffice to say, I left Darsylon. My skills have progressed to such
a point now that I need only visit briefly with those elder to me in
my guild. I am free to walk the darkest paths of the forest, to train
and learn and remember why I am here. None know my name. I
like it that way.
Soon, the world will know who I am. The people will realize they
need not rely on the laws of men to protect them. They need not a
wall to guard them. I will tear those walls down. I will remove the
spread of slavery across these realms, so that we may stand against
the darkness that approaches.
Questions and answers.
Added Wed Jul 2 14:39:32 2008 at level 21:
Perhaps you are wondering why an elf, so obviously of high blood,
could find himself traveling these dark forest paths, scornful of his
kin and disregarding his heritage? Why an elf born in the Darsylon
Palace itself would turn his back and disappear into the darkest of
woods.
This question is easily answered, stranger. Listen, and I will tell you
what truth I know.
Before you or I were born, before our parents even were born, we
were the keepers of this land. Before the eldest of elves living in
Darsylon were born, we protected her from the parasites that tried
to harm her.
This is the task we were given, and we have forgotten it. So I have
learned. So I have been taught. Once, the elven mages stood firm
against the darkness. We stood and protected our kin and the land,
because there were no others who could. Now what? Walk among
the elves of Darsylon. Witness what descent our great calling has
taken. They hide in the Palace. Conjuring parlor tricks to amuse
children and speaking strong words about ridding this land of the
darkness that rots her, they do nothing. They sit by and watch evil
stroll through the very streets that the great adepts of old walked,
in a time before law.
Even as the Empire grows stronger, scouring the land and forcing
slavery upon the people, I can feel no mercy for them. Why, you
ask? There is good in me, I assure you. Yet I will feel nothing but
contempt for those that I deliver from slavery, for they held their
hands out and begged for it. They sought shelter in the law. They
crawled forward on their knees, beaten like curs, and they begged
for shelter and protection.
I thank you for your time, stranger. You have sat and listened to
me for long enough. Perhaps tomorrow, I will tell you more.
Perhaps tomorrow, you will join me.
