Description

Age seems to have mellowed the features of this elf. Despite the keen-eyed gaze and sharp, satirical brow, there is a genuine warmth in his face, in the azure eyes and faint lines from smiles and frowns. A slightly haggard look plays about his features, indicating the rigours of middle age, though his skin is smooth and youthful as elves' are wont to be. Straight, platinum hair is pulled back into a pony tail, framing an even, well-proportioned face shaped in classic elven beauty. Alert, pointed ears seem to twitch slightly at every sound, and his gaze shifts from side to side, scouring the environs for threats. He stands at six feet of height, with a slight build, but his arms and legs have seen frequent use, and his clothes bear the marks of many wanderings. On the back of his hand, a small, silver phoenix is painted, a hammer gripped in its talons. You glimpse the traces of a few scars scoring across the skin of his arms, they look shallow and very deliberate, but they must have been inflicted a long time ago.

Role

Temperance

Added Thu Jun 2 00:56:25 2005 at level 51:
And so it goes, dear journal. I have been harsh. Yet the Light, Lords Aarn
and Shokai, and Caradoc, have been gentle with me, and guided me to the
bright path once again. I must looks over my deeds once more... do the grey
hearted deserve to be hunted? No, not until they have fallen down the path
to darkness. I have been appointed the place of Maran today. It is not
without some shame and guilt that I wear that new mantle. It will sit
uncomfortably on my shoulders, until I have reconciled the past error of my
ways with myself. May my story be a warning to all future Squires and Maran,
that our fight brings us closest to evil, and we must endeavour to escape
the yawning black pit that waits below. Temperance, is as much a virtue as
Wrath.

Defeat

Added Mon May 16 04:44:35 2005 at level 51:
Dear Journal. Shamefully, I have been defeated by Nhil, the Disciple of
Zurcon, at the Watcher himself. Much as I hate saying it, I am humbled. I
must learn to take humility and mix it with pride. I was arrogant to think
I could stand against him whilst unprepared.

What is worse, he was unaccompanied. None had beaten me singly in direct
combat, until he. I shall hone my skills and not let overconfidence cloud
my judgement.

On the Brink

Added Mon May 16 03:51:30 2005 at level 51:
Dear journal, I have attained six masteries, and I have but the smallest
advances left to make in immolation. I remember the days when I was a youth,
barely able to bring a spark to my fingers. I feel aged, with this vast
store of knowledge which must have spanned a good part of my lifetime to
study to perfection. Now the end is close at hand, and I will rise near to
being as powerful as I possibly can be, in terms of arcane power.

Drinks

Added Sat May 14 10:31:36 2005 at level 51:
Kiel has a very low tolerance for any mood affecting drinks, and these
include alcohol, coffee, and tea. Drinking those will exacerbate his mood
swing problems, and cause him to behave erratically. He abstains as much as
possible.

Kiel's Disorder

Added Wed May 11 02:43:06 2005 at level 51:
Kiel might not know it himself, but he is subject to mood swings. Sometimes
he is grim and dour as a dwarf, and at other times, prone to making jokes
and witticisms with a light heart.

The condition is psychological, and is the manic-depressive disorder.

Frost Mastery

Added Tue May 10 01:28:12 2005 at level 51:
Dear journal, Frost has come under my complete mastery.

I felt an immense rush of power connecting me to the plane of Frost upon
casting conglaciation at that time. I thirst for more.

Quicksand is my next target.

Shokai, Phoenix Lord of Destruction

Added Sun May 8 11:03:21 2005 at level 51:
On the Lord Shokai, dear journal. I have decided to follow the Skyborn,
though my decision was already made hundreds of years ago. When I was but a
middling invoker, before knowing shields, I had desired to worship the
Phoenix. It is the embodiment of what warriors of the Light should be, swift,
destructive, indomitable, and when killed, bring down the enemy as well.

I have only gathered the courage to go up to his shrine after I had learned
some shields, I felt myself more worthy of being his servant. He has not
answered my prayers as of late, and I fervently hope he will appear before
me in all his resplendence some time soon.

Dear Journal

Added Sun May 8 10:59:17 2005 at level 51:
So much time has passed, and at a ripe age of four hundred and seventy one,
I have decided to keep a journal.

Right now, let me tell you my progress with the spells. Of course, the
spells are the life of every invoker. I have gained the final seven spells
of each element, and they are vast in their Destruction indeed. Quicksand I
have seen ensnare helpless opponents, allowing me to destroy them at will.
Pillar of the heavens, it is such a thrill to watch the heavens themselves
respond to my arcane will, to watch bolts of lightning descend to strike my
foes. The geyser is a mighty, quick firing spell, most favoured at the inner
guardians of Empire. As for conglaciation, why, I can turn a harsh desert
climate into a blizzard with one tight surge of energy! And call upon rains
of stone to descend from the sky, though they strike foe and friend alike,
they stun much like boulders, on occasion. And my personal favourite, the
immolation, which evokes a continual channel to the plane of fire _within_
the hated foe itself, burning them continuously for long periods. Let them
stew in the wrath of the Phoenix, burn in the flame.

And good journal, I have found a home in the Fortress. It is not the same
as House Dunelain, indeed there are many creatures of other races that
inhabit it. While I was at first not quite comfortable with them, after a
while the brotherly ties allowed me to get closer to them. Some interesting
people in the Fortress - this avian, Amaranda, and this half-elf, Caradoc.
Apparently Amaranda is in love with Caradoc, and is in some sort of pain
over his rejection. He has vowed to remain celibate. Pah! Elves of House
Dunelain made no silly vows of celibacy, love does not detract from duty.

Then there is the holy knight, Solasarath, who I much admire, though he is
no High Elf but a Jade Elf. He is a most mighty warrior, and I cannot help
but feel a surge of confidence whenever he reports to the Fortress. Such is
the strength he offers. Amaranda, though, often travels with him to find
some trinket or other. While trinkets are certainly important to a mage in
the way of protection, but she might be spending too much time on it. She
spends most of the spare time on that. I would prefer to write in my diary,
or spend my time honing my spells. After all, equipment is not permanent. I
am rather comfortable with what I have. With my equipment, I am twice as
durable as without. That allows me to finish the Archmage by myself, with
a judicious use of wands, of course.

The dwarves, ah. Gumbldink stands out in my mind. They may be coarse and
rough, but they have spirit! It is indomitable, and I much admire it.
Bruggadon, Rulcorr, Obane, all stout warriors willing to fight. They wish
to construct a Forge within the Fortress. I am not opposed to that.
Indeed, the Fortress has been home to many dwarves, and a Forge would
certainly be to their liking.

Some of the warriors return home to families, when they retire. Myself, I
take up accomodation in the Fortress. I like sleeping in the Hall of Light
or reading some tome or other. The Fortress's grey and white walls fill me
with a sense of belonging, and a feeling of being protected. House Dunelain
had not the resources to build a home, and lived in the trees. It

Anger

Added Mon Apr 18 22:18:03 2005 at level 18:
On speaking to Captain Azidreth, I was posed with the issue of Anger, and
how one can view it.
For myself, I am filled with anger at the sins committed against the light,
and I would not restrain that anger in my activities. Though if the Fortress
finds it unsuitable, I am willing to adapt, but my thoughts remain my own.
In my anger, I would never hurt someone innocent, but I would not show mercy
to spawns of evil, not even the slightest bit. It is not my belief that they
can be redeemed. If they have redeemed, I welcome them with open arms. If
not, may the light sear the flesh from their bones. Yet let it not be said
that I am blinded by anger, for if someone shows proof of repentance, and
swears it, I will leave him alone. I do not believe that anger will get in
the way of my clear head. I am not a berserker, charging into battle with
mindless fury. I hurl my spells with precision even while filled with cold
hate.

Fortress

Added Sat Apr 9 08:29:12 2005 at level 8:
Sworn to destroy evil no matter the cost, with unparalleled ferocity and
determination, the Fortress is the embodiment of the army Kiel wishes to be
a part of. He will seek to be a soldier within, and lend his elemental
to the forefront of battle.

House Dunelain

Added Sat Apr 9 08:26:47 2005 at level 8:
Kiel was born to a reclusive family of high elves. Here is the history of
the noble house Dunelain. Many centuries before, when the family of Darsylon
still ruled over Darsylon, a daughter of Darsylon was born. That was Kiel's
great-grandmother. She grew up to be the next in line for the throne, being
the second eldest after the eldest son, who did not wish to rule and ran
away from home. That generation must have been cursed, for a short while
after Kiel's great-grandmother, Elgina, was crowned queen, a strange fever
passed over her, which was gone in a few days. But she was never the same
person again, and spoke most of mobilising the small army of guards to
massacre those of tainted blood, the dark hearted ones, those who follow the
dark gods. The advisors and all the noble lords and ladies were not amenable
to the policy, being typical passive and peace-loving elves, and Elgina,
faced with staunch opposition to her plans, abdicated and ran away with the
Lord Commander of the guards then, Kielthas. They led a group of similarly
bloodthirsty elves, and formed the house of Dunelain, living in the forests
near Udgaard, terrorising the evil which was so common in those lands.
Members of the house of Dunelain were typically elemental wizards, though
the occasional conjurer and fighter appeared as well. The elves harnessed
the powers of the elements, and followed a strict training schedule, which
included non-lethal self-mutilation to keep their awareness of pain
constant, and to steel their nerves for battles. Hiding in the forests, the
elves managed to survive, until the recent invasion of Udgaard Loke's forces
into the then Icewind Dale. The elves were scattered, simply by the
proximity of the numerous patrollers. Some returned to Darsylon. Some
remained and were killed. Kiel ran away to the wood-elf city of Eryn Galen,
and bought citizenship within with the goods plundered from the raids carried
out be the Dunelain elves. He was safe there, cut off from his missing kin,
but he would continue the struggle against evil, even as he searches for a
new home and army, where he can wage his bitter war against the dark hearted.
