Description

The blank stare calm, though like an abyss, focusing on nothing but yet seeing everything. Dark with eyes like a pair of black pearls, her lips, grey as if the life has been sucked out of them, forms a wide grin from time to time. A face, covered with a large network of wrinkles, like any other, disappearing in the crowd. Her height greater then an average old lady yet it doesnt stand out in your mind. Her hairs are grey and long, like a dirty snow over a coal. Dark robes cover her body, as dark the shadows in which he seems to slip into. Looking once again at her face, you see no expression at all and only sometimes you notice mad sparks in her old lady's eyes.

Born in Dairen settlement's the most richest familily Pyrespear, Kithevroy was
a curious and cheerful girl. She has exercized abilities to almost all arts
wich can be learned in the village. Her family was very happy until one
incident ... Nobody knows what exactly happened, but once, her mother has
found her stand in her room. Kithevroy's face was pale, mother could not get
any word from her daughter. An invited healer has told that Kithevroy is in
shock, and that shock invoked by some vision or some person, maybe some
creature, also he told that he don't know a cure - only time and care. 

Almost two years have passed,Kithevroy began to talk but no words about that
"incident" was sayed from her lips. She told that she does not remember.
Sorrow came to the most richest familiy in the settlement - its lovely
daughter has changed. No cheerful eyes, no smiles - her red lips became dark,
her smily face became pale and her gaze sometimes didn't notice her parents.
Only one thing was Kithevroy's interest - magic. The parents have noticed she
could stand at shapeshifters guild and watch how students are practicing to
shift into animals and revert. Hoping, a shapeshifters class could "wake"
her, they sent Kithevroy to learn that art.

Lone Flashback

...It's an early evening. Kithervroy is 13 years old, she stands at window and
looks at family garden. She has just put away some book, Kithervroy looks at
trees, but, suddenly, a some movement behind the garden attracts her
attention. It looks like something or someone black and big approaches
through the trees to Pyrespear house. Kithervroy's heart starts to beat slower
and slower, a fierce cold climbs from fingertips to her mouth. Black fog
trails from bushes. She realises that she can't speak. And also can't move
and stops look. Now she is sure that is someone and that someone is close. 
Still trees cover that someone, but she feels his hard breath, exactly feels 
but does not hear. The fog on ground moves aside and on a lawn beyond house and
garden appears ... a hourse. A huge black horse. It stands half-turned and,
she thinks, looks precisely at Kithervroy. A bright lantern from gatekeeper's
house reflects in horse's eyes. The horse turns to Kithervroy and comes to her.
Hooves do not touch the ground and grass, but she does not notice it. Her
attention concentrates at horse's eyes. Even real size of this horse eludes
from her mind. Bright eyes approach and look straight into girl's eyes.
Suddenly, Kithervroy understands that now is already a night and the gatekeeper
has extinguished his lamp long time ago ... and that's not a reflection in
horse's eyes. That ARE horse's eyes. Reddish-orange eyes on an ebony muzzle
and ... almost spectral body. She releases that is not a horse. Soundless
scream flies from Kithervroy's lips, she can't move, but creature's eyes are
closer and closer...

Shadow Plane

During almost every rest Kithervroy has seen the same dream or flashback. 
Although this dream didn't affect her thoughts and feelings she felt that it 
somehow connects with her past. And she made a small research about dreams 
to try find out its cause...
... Almost third part of life a human sleeps. Despite the best efforts of all
magic arts there are so few of serious works about dream researches. One of
theory that Kithervroy has found is the theory of Veil. One of mages, called
Derrims Liprims claims that intensity of dreaming depends from Veil's
thickness, what is more remarkable that thickness influences different to
mages and to no mages (Kithervroy was not interested in nonmages researches so
she has let through that part). According to Derrims, a mage sleeps calmly
while Veil is thick and sees dreams that is not different from a wakefulness,
and begins to see phantasmagoric dreams while Veil is thin. Another theory of
mage named Ruphotp Shedrelk says that brain of a human or an animal has no
memory or knowledge itself. But all this is planes that surrounds us, where
connecting plane in this process is Shadow Plane. And brain, in case of
neccessity, finds a link with some of planes through the Shadow Plane, if
brain links with Shadow Plane itself then dreaming becomes much powerfull.

Fascinating Idea

Kithervroy, impressed by the research of the Dream and the Veil, somehow
inexplicably came to the following thoughts:
1) The Dream, in particular the one she saw, is somehow related to the 
Shadow Plane;
2)  How can she understand and learn to control it? Only through the 
moment of approaching to the Shadow Plane - the moment of death, when the 
ghost is separated from the body;
3) How can she get more data for research? She needs test experimental
subjects! Of course, she can conduct research on herself, but who will spend
such a valuable resource?
4) She believes that the subject at the moment of death sees a Dream and 
sees / feels something that will help the individual to control it and, 
possibly, get into the Plane of Shadow, at least for a while ...

Kithervroy became obsessed with this idea. Unfortunately, almost all the test
subjects either kept silent, or carried some nonsense about Organia, the Veil
of Shadows. Yes, Kithervroy had the experience of traveling to this place /
time, but it was not that ...

Lord Morius, when He met her, called this idea creation of a broken mind, mad
and insane. But Kithervroy decided that He was just possessed by Sloth at
that moment and did not pay much attention to the essence of this idea.

Concealment

Admittedly, Kithervroy has gone completely insane. Since she become obsessed
with the idea of ??a "special moment" during death of the subject, so she
also began to talk to herself. Her idea of ??"Dream", which originated
somewhere deep in her mind, completely took over Kithervroy and, moreover,
she began to suspect that the subjects were simply lying to her. She thinks
that she can use the results of her research (if they, of course, will be),
and believes that this will definitely help to strengthen the connection
between our reality and Shadow Plane ... Why? So that everyone can see what
she once saw! To see that elusive dark beauty, that rage and awe, that power
that allows you to feel the approach of something even more beautiful.

Despite her rather chaotic nature, Kithervroy tries not to break the law, as
this may prevent her from accessing resources, and this will entail research
problems. Although she counts all the representatives of the Tribunal
snickering snobs or petty cunning bastards, she does not miss the opportunity
to conduct her experiments on them.

And the main distinguishing and innate feature of Kithervroy became her
ability to conceal its madness with amazing efficiency. Those who talked to
her, hardly noticed anything unusual. Yes, her subjects are tired of hearing
the same question, but her speech is always was quite reasonable and
coherent, her actions were deliberate and cunning, and hardly anyone at least
once doubted the sharpness of her mind.

A timelapse

A lot of time has passed. And Kithervroy succeeded a lot:

1) She completed a mission of Blind Lord. Despite the fact that almost every
inhabitant of Thera wanted to kill her, she managed to convince several
magicians and even one healer to go for the desired treasures. Surprisingly,
Morius quickly ate the treasures and taught her a clever trick with
nightwalkers.

2) Kithervroy became the Advisor for the as-yet-defunct Chancellor. Morius
suggested that she persuade three Scions and have them send missives that
they agree with Kithervroy to be the Advisor. To do this, Kithervroy sent
out to all known Scions something like this:
"I offer _you_ a deal. You will be the Chancellor because you are "young
blood / the smartest / most experienced" (etc.) and I, Kithervroy, will
support you, and you, in turn, support me to be _your_ Advisor. And you must
send a missive to the Lord of Vices about our agreement". Moreover, almost
every Scion who received this message, in addition received a "confession"
that such a message was sent to everyone, but "you - the true Chancellor and
I really support only you!". As a result:
a) one Scion sent a missive with support;
b) two Scions sent missives with a plan to depose Kithervroy;
c) one Scion suggested that Kithervroy first send a missive stating that
she was supporting him as Chancellor;
d) and one Scion ignored her message.
And finally, Morius agreed to grant her the title of Advisor, but in return
made her ... a kind of "target" for other Scions ...

3) After Kithervroy became the Advisor, her research got off the ground a
bit. Her experimental subjects, impressed by her new high status, began to
share more information. A treatise on the topic "The Dream as an
Internuncial Contexture of the Universe" began to take on the form of a real
research work.

Loss and Gains

"The old definition that research deals with facts and religion with faith
is too simplistic," Al'ndra Rand'ra, shapeshifter's guildmaster, once said.
"Research includes evidence, but it also includes the skills of formulating
judgments and evaluating evidence."
"After all, you only have a limited set of evidence with which to base your
theory, and you have to believe them, which is not too far from the position
of a faith believer." These words were etched into the memory of a young
Kithervroy for a long time.

As her research was in full swing, Kithervroy remembered those words. And
she thought: Are research and religion are really at opposite poles? At
first she wanted to talk to Nalasul, but the goddess ignored her call. After
some time, Kithervroy heard about the Rahsael and ... here it is! Her
research as a quintessence of losses and gains (since her test subjects must
die to see and provide the information) perfectly intertwined with his
religion.

On their first meeting, one of the ... servants ... asked her to collect
some information about several inhabitants of Thera. It wasn't very
difficult, Kithervroy collected a data,organized it and described everything
in the missive.

Their second meeting took place rather quickly, it seems that Rahsael
himself was busy, and only one of his aspects demanded that Kithervroy begin
to spread terror and fear. It is was not difficult too, because fear and
terror are a by-product of her research.

The third meeting may not be called a meeting ...

But the fourth meeting ... At first, nothing seemed to foreshadow any
drastic events. But then, one of the aspects demanded from Kithervroy ...
demanded that ... demanded ... GO HOME! Something happened to her at that
moment. It's as if you are walking along a tunnel into a dungeon and bumping
into an invisible ward, you try to move it by force, you try to get around -
it doesn't work! Roughly the same thing happened to her, in the end, after a
struggle, one might say with the whole world, Kithervroy fell victim to her
own shadow. And only then she felt liberated. Going to South Darein, she
realized that she had not been here forever. Everything has changed, her
estate was not, in this place flaunted wasteland overgrown with weeds. She
even tried to establish herself here, but the Registrator of Udgaard could
not find an empty place. Now she sometimes wanders through the overgrown
streets and thinks: what has she lost here ?
