Role
Behind those eyes.

The home that I lived in was very large, plenty tall enough to house dozens
of my family, although it was just my servant and I. Our life was not overly
wealthy nor flashy but it was a good one. Our needs were met, always a roof
over head, and most of the time a good full tummy.
I was typically the provider. I'd leave to go hunting during the day and
keep a sharp ear to prowlers throughout the evening and nighttime hours.
When I'd return from my arduous trips through the wood and fields, many a
time successful from the hunt, my servant would have prepared a feast for me.
The savory aroma was often intoxicating. I'd eagerly dig right in, while
he'd sit and await for me to finish before removing the dishes. It was a
good life indeed.
My servant wasn't typical for his race, no charms, cheep tricks, or magical
aptitude dwelt within. Still, he was mine and not one I'd trade for
anything. At times, he was the only one willing to remind me of my manners
and in doing so, I shared no animosity toward his methods. On occasion, he'd
present me with gifts. Sometimes they were shiny little baubles, but on one
occasion it was a splendid collar, necklace. It even had my name engraved
upon it.
One day, either through luck, or sheer happenstance, an unknown caller
arrived at our humble abode. He was tall, lean, and smelled vaguely of
death. I immediately bayed him to turn and leave, leave us alone. Of
course, my servant reminded me of my manners and begrudgingly, I allowed him
to enter. He sat and my servant brought us refreshments so that we could
entertain his proposal. The man, if that is what it was, was making an offer
to acquire my servant. Of course I immediately protested, loudly and
unabashedly.
I felt utter anger, rage even, that he'd try to take him away. I didn't care
what the offer was or why he wanted him. No bloodline makes someone that
important because he was mine. Soon, I was standing up in a blinding furry,
every muscle was tense and engorged with blood. I'd tear his limbs off if he
didn't leave this very instant. I lunged.
Pain.. pure, unadulterated, agony.. burst through my body. His words twisted
and arched the very world around me. My physical body was powerless, aching,
dying. Blood oozed and a filthy black substance began to protrude and
intermingle with it. I felt my spirit lifting and just before my eyes lost
their sight, I saw my servant. Stricken with a similar aliment, fighting for
our lives. Before long, all began to grow dim and my life was extinguished.
The second perspective.

I was born and raised in the mountain city of Hillcrest. A fine town.
There, I lived a simple life, a good life. Like my father and his father
before, I was craftsman O'Deagon. Although my ancestors were adept in the
arcane arts, it was never my forte nor desire to practice them. While I was
constantly hounded in the city for this, it only ensured me that it would be
best if I departed. I departed the city with no ill will, only the intent to
move somewhere a little less known, I recall thinking the outskirts of
Tir-Talath would be a good idea.
It took a few years but eventually, I had built a grand old home for myself
and my companion. My companion was an aged black and tan dog, nearing
senility, but very caring, very protective. I'd take care of him as best I
could, let him wander off during the day and fix a meal upon his return. I
loved that dog. I suppose, he was also part of the reason that I departed
the city. It's better for them in more open spaces.
On occasion, we'd entertain guests that happened upon us while traveling
throughout the eluvials and plains of the area. As fate or happenstance
would have it, one evening, we began to entertain a traveler. This one, I
should have trusted my companion on, as he immediately resisted his entering.
This man wished me, well, mainly my blood as he believed that it had dormant
magical qualities. Of course, this enraged my companion and almost
immediately, he was prepared to leap. Again I tried to calm him, but it was
too late. He leapt to his death to defend me.
I rushed to his aid, holding his head in my lap as I watched his eyes cloud
over, sores slowly protruding from everywhere and eventually washing over me.
I knew, this would be his last. He'd lived a good life, I thought, as I lay
beside his lifeless body, drifting off to a dreamless sleep.
Insight beyond the events and summary.

Klibendon is a gnome, originally from Hillcrest. He is from a line of
craftsmen, magical craftsmen. A talent in which he only had half of.
He moved away from the city to live a more peaceful life, one less hounded by
folks trying to force him to embrace the O'Deagon legacy.
His faithful hound, companion, traveled with him. On the outskirts of the
city of Tir-Talath, they lived in an average sized home.
He continued his crafts, mostly artsy things, until a passing traveler,
likely a necromancer, slew his companion and left him comatose.
The last remnant of these times long past, with his lovable companion,
dangles from the belt about his waist, the engraved collar.
Having embraced the anguish of losing his one great companion, that he cared
so much for, he decided to embark to the nearest accepting academy.
It was there, that he learned rudimentary fighting techniques called the art
of the warrior, choosing to forgo magical training.
The path of thievery or woodsman were also options but they would involve his
embracement of shadows and deceit or magical gifts.
Picking the path of the warrior was his choice, as he was now scarred, and
feels that magic could only bring suffering.
A slight slant toward more flashy, yet brutish weapons, caught his attention
from the time spent in training but all will be learned.
His mannerisms are typical for a gnome, regular speech and temperament, but
now believing strongly in purity.
Purity of duty, neither too empathetic and light nor showing malice and dark,
no love for law or entropic desire, he is beyond all colorings.
Greetings and introductions are typically well rehearsed and will be cordial,
regardless of to whom he speaks.
Thick calloused scars remain from the attack that began his journey toward
war, they certainly detract from his physical appearance.
He left his home behind and has sat out for a more physically demanding life,
moving to the city of Galadon and tempering himself for war.
Semi-Resurrected Companion.

After my departure from the land of the living, at the hands of that magic
using traveler, I began ascending. However it wasn't to last, I soon began
to regain consciousness from the groggy aftermath of death and the sight of
my servant, covered with disease. Maybe it was the refreshing effects
provided from the absence of my aged body but I felt great and my senses were
beginning to sharpen once more, but I didn't wish to leave leave him. We'd
been together for so long and the feelings of companionship were so strong,
that I was able to overcome the processes involved in death. I wanted
nothing more than to continue on, however I could, even without him
acknowledging my presence. So, I did.
Sometimes I'd trot by his side, as I used to do on many occasions, while
still living. Many days, I'd drift about, observing his actions and where
he'd go. I was proud to see him take up arms and set out to prove to the masses
that he wouldn't be pushed around. I paid close attention when he went
through the academy, when he chose the warriors guild, and cringed at the
beatings he took to learn those weapon forms. But so far, my proudest moment
was when I got to see him raise his head high, for a gnome it was, and enter
the village of the Battleragers. Such pride I felt, knowing he had achieved
so much, yet has a long path ahead, to go.
While lingering about the village for many months now, I've gotten to observe
numerous interactions and gaze over the assortment of texts, as I followed him
around. The most enlightening moment was when I caught a glimpse of him
attempting the motions of Gilut, the Drillmaster, when he passed along a
reforged flail. I don't know why but I think he has grown sort of attached
to that type of skill. I'd truly like to see if he has what it takes to
master such but he has yet to meet the lord of the forge, he's been seeking.
I suppose, only time will tell if he'll make the acquaintance of the Dwarven
Lord or not, and learn the technique of a smith.
On the Inside.
Added Fri Sep 27 21:02:03 2013 at level 26:
Klibendon has been followed, unbeknownst to him, by the invisible spirit of
his past companion, his hound. It stays by his side and observes.
So far, after taking up arms as he did and moving to Galadon, he's managed to
make some insights that are shaping his future direction.
He now believes that a weapon is treated as an extension of a warrior
master's body but begins only as a simple tool.
Currently, he compares himself to being one of these tools, weak and
malleable but with the potential to become more.
A deep-seated belief that the core material of the tool's making is paramount
to it's strength and usefulness now anchors his perception.
This core material, he believes, should be as pure as it can to achieve the
best condition but if one isn't careful, it'll dull or break.
A realization occurred after some consideration on his path in the village
and future training as a warrior but was set in motion by one act.
That act was watching the process of the forge being performed by Gilut, on
his bloody flail.
For the first time, all the pieces fell into place and he got a glimpse of
the big picture. The forge isn't just for material weapons.
Now he believes that an ingot can be of any material, even living
individuals, even himself, can live the process.
As such, he's began to visit the shrine of the Dwarven Lord, Thror, in hopes
that, one day, he'll be accepted and learn from the master.
His current, ultimate goal, is to prove to Thera, Thar-Eris, and all of the
lands, that a gnome may be truly strong without magic.
The Incorporeal Companion.

Most days are spent idle, trotting along after the steady plodding of my
companion. I'll admit that I didn't truly understand all that he'd gone
though for the longest of times. He'd treated me as if I were a king, always
allowing me to have my way, feeding me and taking care of me, but now I see.
A great bond was between us both. After all, I'd lived with him for close to
ninety years, nineteen as this other calendar counts, but they were good
years. I suppose, we were like family.
Sometimes.. sometimes, there is so much blood. I bark, growl, howl and
strike but never can seem to latch on with my bite, alone. I gaze onward as
he struggles, and strives to bludgeon his enemies. That thin little waif of
a man, barely even my height, never seems to relent before his villainous
enemies. When in the throws of those magical battles, I do my best to align
and combine my own assaults with his. I don't know if he's ever sensed it
but I make every effort to support his tactics. So far, I've gotten the
feeling that, at times, we work well together in some aspects.
After witnessing so many differing incursions, insurrections, and skirmishes,
I've grown to crave the excitement. The metaphysical sensation of my locked
jaws when he's wrapping the enemy in coils, the strong surge as fangs pierce
to coincide with a bludgeoning or stinging blow, each fills me with sentiment
and feelings long sense past. Some of the most intense emotions is derived
from facing orcs, in their savagery. I feel a resonance with this, nearly as
much as when facing the traveler who extinguished me. Such penetrating
desire and encounters raise he and us at an astounding pace, almost nonstop.
Aging's Progress.
Added Sun Oct 13 21:34:12 2013 at level 41:
Eventful is a interesting term and a good descriptive word for the life that
Klibendon has been living for the past few decades.
In his thoughts, he's finally come into full realization of his strengths and
some of his weaknesses as an eternal student of War.
Small insights into his style of fighting have led him to rely on tact before
pure rage and he's taken up fist fighting to compliment it.
As always, regardless of his weapon choices, he spends limitless time honing
his skills to their peak, through real and arena combat.
There is a lingering feeling that he's being watched at times and split
seconds of sensations that his talents worked better than it should.
On several occasions he has been able to apply his craft effectively and in
doing so, he has become a truly formidable warrior.
Not all occasions are equally as good, however, and he has suffered a few
defeats throughout his years, a few in specific to his adult life.
Sometimes small inklings of frustration and anger arise from his battles,
although most of them are in relation to Orcish combat.
He's come to a conclusion that most of those monstrosities, long devolved
from the dark god's magical twistings, are enemies.
Their greatest talent, savaging their opponents faces with their teeth or
tusks, is his largest perceived disadvantage, one he can't defend against.
Through time and his work at the forge, he believes that he is capable of
forging himself to the point beyond worry of such things.
An echo in his mind reverberates the notion of them biting the immovable
anvil and then their teeth being smashed by the hammer.
His main goal yet remains the destruction of magi but the idea of setting the
example of pure gnomish strength remains as lofty as ever.
Continuation of the Process.
Added Thu Nov 7 21:00:36 2013 at level 51:
Growth and maturity have settled into Klibendon. He feels as if he is well
known and respected amongst all those of village kin.
This very kinship has awakened thoughts inside that moved him to impart new
views of the lands and wisdom onto the youth and peers.
Instilling knowledge of which folk carry or wear certain armor and weapons,
he feels, strengthens the new village blood.
Although he will often travel with them on these excursions, he sees that
they put forth the effort and arent given such freely.
On an intellectual level, through conversations on tact and feelings, he sees
that some villagers, old and new, have began to temper nicely.
Even those that he felt may have been beyond shaping, like Commander Crraya,
have slowly transitioned into some of his views.
He believes this because not long after Crraya and he spoke, she relinquished
her hard stance of all out War with the Empire.
The argument that was made, in his mind, has and is giving the village the
needed time to infuse new blood that will soon be required.
At present, the most efficient enemy that he faces within the Imperial ranks
is Gharzal, the mummy, and his horde of undead.
Sometimes the thought of weather he is setting the best example of tactics
and how to represent himself to others of the village.
With some degree of certainty, thoughts of future leadership within the
village weigh upon him as well as the continued Tribunal War.
His instinct is to avoid earning a warrant, at all costs, if he isnt assured
that magi will die somewhere within the process.
Being wanted by the law, he sees as hamstringing himself in the war effort
and as such, has little reserve when speaking out about it.
Knowing and feeling all of these experiences and not being crushed by them,
he feels, strengthens him into the gnome he wishes to be.
The natural Becoming.

The semi-softened sounds of metal as it collides with bone and flesh seems to
be a self adopted anthem as we make our way throughout these lands. Forever
fighting at his side, I bore witness to the best of occasions and the worst
of defeats. I howled and roared as his prowess in combat allowed his rise to
defeat the dastardly orcish ilk that had plagued his youthful years. During
the battle with Zhenyen, I latched on with all my might and bayed that his
stubby little fists could carry him through and by some miraculous feat, they
did. The astounding peaks of these battles were quick to be overshadowed by
the coming years.
*Thonk* was the sound of the whizzing arrows as they flew by his head, after
returning victorious from a titanic battle. We searched our surroundings, my
hackle standing voraciously on end, as our senses seemed to momentarily
merge. Quickly, we took off after the source, although it seemed to be
corralling rather than a singular position. Off into the desert we strode,
still leaking some blood from one arrows prick. Within the whirling simoon,
we finally faced the attacker. The Sapper of the Sands, he was. As they
conversed, I listened, and aided in what seemed to be some sort of ritual
torture but in the end only increased our prowess.
The most recent ascension began in the dark depths of the spiders woods,
dreary and dank. Men and women from all over the surface, air, and
sub-surface of Thera, came to participate in the great brawl. At the call of
the man that hes always knelt in prayer to, they gathered and would shed
their blood. We sat off on our own, willing to face the hordes, fellow
villagers, Scions, Imperials, Outlanders, Tribunals, Nexuns, none would be
given any quarter. Flesh and bone, fang and claw, we fought as one and as
the last opponent lie before our bloody fists, we stood victoriously and in
doing so, faced our greatest trial and before long, stood true as a Noldarian
Smith.
