Description
The fierce visage of a male fire giant stands before you. He stands with
good posture at his full height, which is shorter than many of his kind at
eight feet in height. The dense musculature beneath his deep ebony skin
makes the slight lacking inconsequential. Heavy burn scars that are just
lighter than the rest of his gloomy form create wide tribal patterns. His
dark red hair has been pulled back into a braid that shows signs of being
burnt along the surface. A large hooked nose dominates a broad face with
a crooked mouth cracked into a grin. Heavy furs drape over his shoulders
and pack to protect against the cold, while beneath he wears only a
simple loin cloth to keep his movement free.

A cry pierced the air as the young Kolarkos took his first breath. His
mother looked down upon the small babe and knew he would be found lacking
and left for the fires to consume him. She swung at the others as they
came for her son but found herself slipping into darkness as the trauma
took her from the long hours of childbirth.
She awoke to find her son and say a final goodbye after carrying him for
so long. She walked the depths of Kiadana looking for his charred form.
A faint cry drew her to her son, the small child still clinging to life
on a small cliff edge. She quickly picked him up ready for him to pass
in her arms, but found a surprising strength left within him. He latched
onto his mother, and she knew they would accept him, for the fires that
had been meant to kill him instead marked his young form.
Kolarkos grew through the years, but always the smallest of children his
age and sometimes the younger ones. The elders accepted him for they saw
the portents in the markings he had gained as a babe, but his peers saw
this as favoring the runt. It mattered little that Kolarkos was stronger
than most of them because he was shorter. The brutal upbringing of his
kind was made tougher by every other youth choosing to target him. When
he found himself most troubled, he would dive into the depths of the
volcano and bask in the heat.
Dark Magic

The elders of Kiadana saw the way that Kolarkos was forced into being
an outcast. Fearing the loss of the future of one so marked, they sent
him to where many of the most powerful fire giants trained. The strength
of their ice magic was well known amongst their kind.
Kolarkos walked into the dim chamber where dark magic was practiced. He
brought a nervous tremor in his hands under control and began learning
from the monstrosities there. Months came and went as they tried to find
the magic within Kolarkos, but he had none. Their methods were harsh, and
he was relieved to finally have a day to rest his battered and beaten
body.
A heavy hand shook him awake in the early mornings as Kolarkos was
brought to a chamber and told to wear a heavy red robe for a new
ceremony. He was told to lay on the slab and that they would pour magic
into him that he would be able to use. He must keep his eyes closed for
it to work. As he laid down and closed his eyes, he found the fire within
him roared awake. He opened his eyes to see his mentor leaping overhead
with a spear, about to fall upon him.
Escape

Kolarkos knew he saw death above and found no hesitation within. He
rolled off the slab and found himself jumping into the deep depths of
the volcano underneath. The sounds of pursuit followed him, and he made
a move out of desperation. He dove into a vent that led deeper into the
unknown. The markings on his body began to grow intense as he continued,
but he was able to tolerate the pain as he had grown used to it.
Hours after moving through one cave passage to another, he found himself
outside of the mountain looking back up. He knew he was not welcome and
would not return until he was ready to bring war. As he wandered the sea,
he found a place to stay in Arkham. There he began training as a warrior,
finding his strength greater than most.
The town never grew to feel like home, so Kolarkos often found himself
exploring near it. One day he rested near a rock within the forest far
north of Arkham. He leaned back to rest his head upon it and found visions
overtaking him. He did not understand much of it. He did not know the
Goddess it told of or the Sylvans it showed, but he felt the pain of
the wilds. He would bring Fire to those who caused the pain.
