Description
You look upon a mature dwarf, perhaps four foot tall. His copper colored
beard is neatly braided into several long strands and weighted with fine
chain to hang close against his body. Green eyes glint beneath his bushy
eyebrows and his nose is squat and bent, broken badly and poorly set
sometime in the past. His somewhat ruddy skin is weatherbeaten and fine
wrinkles are forming at the corners of his eyes. Wide strong shoulders
make him seem almost as broad as he is tall. His arms are long and thick
with corded muscle, honed by long hours working a forge or through battle
and training you cannot tell.
Role
Exile
Added Tue Feb 12 14:27:56 2013 at level 3:
His earliest memories are of moving around often, Watching hills and
fields roll by from the back of a cart. His family had left Akan when
Kirgni stole the crown. The whole clan chose self imposed exile rather
than live under the pretenders rule. They had no strength or claim to
stand against him and after so much chaos had beset them all peace and
exile was better. They expected Kirgnis' usurption of the Kingship to be
short. A just claimant would rise and restore order to the mountains.
The clan split up, unwilling to settle, always wanting to return to their
mountain home someday. They moved from place to place, but never settling
- always one day waiting for a true King to arise in their homeland for
their return.
Painful memories
Added Tue Feb 12 15:05:17 2013 at level 4:
His mother died when he was still barely walking. A few flashes of
memories remain -- her round smiling face -- her touch against his cheek
-- shouts and screams in the night, shambling monsters in the dark and
his fathers hammer dripping blood and gore. The look in his eyes.
He tries not to think of that night. The twice dead corpses, the bloody
smear which had been driving them. The unnatural pallor of..
He doesn't even know where his father built that small cairn.
They never crossed that way again.
Old wounds
Added Wed Feb 13 10:42:26 2013 at level 7:
The years that came between, he grew older and stronger and while he
learned to smith and to fight from his father there was never any joy any
more. His father had once seemed a paragon of strength seemed smaller
each year, less vital. He would drink each night, long into the dark
nights and sometimes. When the drink takes him he would tell stories,
even if there was no one awake to hear. At first they would be of happier
times but eventually, always, as sure as stone they would turn maudlin.
The mood would be turned sour and the drink bitter.
He would tell stories of a home that Kurnauch had not known. Names of
people he had not met. Grudges and feuds that seem so remote yet just
talking of them his fathers voice would gain an edge of anger.
Sometimes, rarely he would mention mother; but then it would be the
briefest of utterances and he would turn silent for a long time.
These are not Kurnauchs' stories, they are not his old grudges. He loves
his father but he barely sees him any longer when he looks at him over
the fire. That tragic night so long ago had left his father broken, his
forge fire had been dimming ever since, the vital spark gone from his heart.
Now, the drink quenched it down leaving mere embers where once had been a
white hot furnace. He is so very old now, weakened by grief and rage and
age. What little is left is drowned by whiskey.
A fresh sunrise.

One morning he woke and his father did not. He sat by the ashes of the
nights fire for a long time and looked at the face of his father. Still
now, at peace finally. Now there would be no more old stories.
He built a pyre and carefully placed his fathers body upon it, his hammer
held across his chest. The fire burnt well, the wood dry from the summer
heat. He stood and watched the pyre burn down, stood a long time watching
until as the fire smoldered to ash and the sun began to rise over the
hills.
How many other lives did that foul mage destroy? The lingering effects of
his actions had been a slow poison but it had destroyed not just his
mother but his father as well. Tarnished and corroded his very being.
Though Kurnauch may not have a home, he was still raised true. He will
hone his abilities, become as strong and sure as steel and stone and
strike out against those who would use the taint of magic.
A new home
Added Sun Feb 24 13:20:07 2013 at level 35:
Kurnauch has earned his hut in the village and continues to grow in
strength and confidence. He's even more surprisingly forming what may be a
friendship with some of his fellow villagers already. A felar by the name
of Fesa has traveled and fought alongside him and also come to his aid
in a time of need to shield him when hurt.
He has had very few friends through his life to this point, he does not
forget or treat lightly what Fesa had done.
The village has taught him new abilities and new ways to fight. He has
chosen the path of a scout, which while perhaps unusual befits his
experience of traveling and long marches. He did not want to follow the
path of rage having seen his fathers heart burn away after his enraged
battle.
It's going to take a while for him to learn how best to utilize these new
skills and he is striving to do his best to become competent and also
making himself useful spotting enemies for the elders of the village.
Of Dragons and Wood-elves
Added Sun Mar 10 13:21:55 2013 at level 48:
Growing in strength Kurnauch has learned some of the secrets of the
Macalla, these he hopes will enable him to become even stronger against
the mages that still roam unfettered around the lands.
Along with fellow dwarf of the village Vallanthrall he has been caught
into some sort of intrigue in Eryn Galen. Events which he does not fully
understand involving Geaes Glimmergem and a red-gold dragon and the
wood-elves. With Vallanthrall he tried to find out what was going on but
Gaeas did not explain - ever direct in his approach to problems Kurnauch
attempted to beat answers out of him - instead a he turned into a dragon!
Quite unexpected but a bloody fight ensued and the mystery continues.
Vallanthrall has asked the Wardens of Eryn Galen to contact him but
Kurnauch has not heard if anything more has been uncovered.
Sadly he also fears that Fesa his first friend in the village has passed
away.. he's not been seen near his hut for some time. Already in his
relatively brief time in the village he has seen that many have fallen
for the final time and no longer live to fight, he shall strive all the
harder in the fight, determined to combat the mages wherever he can but
also with more discipline than he's shown in the past. All too often he's
attempted to take down enemies in less than ideal situations and has been
marked as an outlaw by the law only to see mages escape his grasp. The
fight is going to be long and he cannot throw his life away cheaply.
