Description

He appears to be small and scrawny for a felar, though his swagger and confidence is testament that he is not aware of this fact. He has an air of fearlessness that projects from his radiant blue eyes and ever forward attitude. Sleek black fur is mottled with light shady brown spots all over his body. His whiskers are long and twitch in a feral display of alertness when his black nose sniffs the air. His fangs are short but sharp, one slightly overlaps his bottom lip when his mouth is closed. His tail seems to have a mind of it's own as it lashes back and forth at most times, seemingly charged by it's own source of energy. His arms and legs are frail looking, a brief reminder of his runty stature. Long claws extending from his paws balance out what otherwise might be an unassuming physical presence or threat.

-He was born very weak and runty with no hope of ever having an opportunity to amount to anything.
-For this reason, after being laughed at when sharing his dream of becoming a felar sentry, he left the felar village.
-He had always been lonely and never had the opportunity to play and roughhouse with other kits.
-He took on a job at an inn in the South Darien Settlement where his stature was mostly ignored.
-He heard tales of Maran, Gods of the Light, horrors, and magic.
-He became a shapeshifter to be more powerful and aid the light to protect others.
-Combat represents freedom and strength to him, he is finally able to defend himself and others and fight.

Runt of the Litter

The felar village itself is typically quiet. Fisherfolk, merchants, and some
bandits take up residence along side normal felar trying to live normal lives.
At times though there arises a break in the normalcy of day to day life. This
particular mewling and grunty kitten did not seem like it would be an example of
anything great, quite the opposite. Kuzoki was the runt of a litter of four. Any
sort of prenatal feedings and growth spurts or promotion of health at all seemed
to have all been given to his brothers and sisters, as it was NOT expected
Kuzoki would even live through his first few hours of life, so sickly and small
was he. In some ways his parents grieved for his existence before he even had a
chance to cling to life.

Growing up he was looked on with pity by most. When he began to realize what
those looks meant as he grew he was always filled with anger. This anger always
served as motivation for him to try harder at all tasks, physically challenging
as they may be. Parents warned their kits not to play with him, certainly not to
roughhouse. For this reason he was frequently a lonely child and frequently felt
excluded from both friends and family. This isn't to say he was unloved, he had
much love from his parents and siblings. He had little love for himself and his
'limitations'.

To prove himself to everyone he decided to join the village guard. This was met
with much laughter whenever he shared his plan. He was ashamed of himself when a
sentry gave him his spear and he couldn't even lift it. He had constant dreams
of the patrol. Dreams where he was the hero, vanquishing large bands of roaming
Frost Giants all by himself. Yet the reality of his situation would set in as he
grew older and he knew he would never even be afforded the opportunity to try to
make his dreams a reality within the felar village.

Strength in Magical Combat

For these reasons, against the wishes of his parents, he left the village when
he was old enough to reasonably do so. He settled into the unassuming and quiet
South Darien Settlement and took on the job of cleaning and clearing tables at a
local inn. He enjoyed his work, mostly because the locals saw him as just
another felar and never even took note of his runtiness, much less comment on it
frequently. He began to grow confident in his speaking to others and he learned
much by watching bard performances, tale-tellers, and eventually magic. Magic
fascinated him. The night a transmuter casted a spell of enlargement and another
of giant strength upon him he instantly fell in love with the idea of being a
mage himself. To be able to manipulate his on body! To make it stronger! To be
something else COMPLETELY! This called to him more than any other dream had
before that moment.

He joined the shapeshifter guild. He trained hard. He loved fighting, he loved
having the ABILITY to fight. To feel worthwhile. To actually PROTECT others and
prove himself while doing so. Combat to him represents freedom and strength.
Being able to physically defend himself and others just offers such a primal
sense of completeness and joy to him, opening up so many possibilities. He
quickly grew in the guild. He greedily gobbled up any and all opportunities of
growth and building strength.

When he began to craft new dreams about how to best use his newfound power, he
reminisced on the tales he learned of the Fortress of Light and the Maran. Of
Shokai, Baerinika, Aarn, and all the old gods of purity and light. And that is
where his path will now take him, the Fortress of Light, to learn the ways of
combat and protect others through the destruction of the foul and wicked. He
will be a sentry after all.
