Kyaltaru the Despondent Dirgesinger, Inebriated Islander, Rhyme of Resistance

Kyaltaru looks about feeling overly embarassed. "I.. I.. had a dream" he
whispers meekly. Getting slightly emotional he just begins speaking rapidly
"My city looked destroyed and my father was dead and my brother must have
killed him to be king and then Woldrun was there and a zombie and magic
exploded and Gulden said I was doing what I was supposed and I cried and just
wanted to be where I belonged and then I woke up and.."

Calbaseeti cuts him off and motions for him to catch his breath. "And then
you woke up here... didn't you?" she says with her voice ever so securing.
Biklaha crouches down, his massive body expelling the air around him in the
process, "You family of Biklaha, family of Isle. Need learn, get in heart."

Kyaltaru stands up smoothing out his clothing for a moment. He stares back at
everyone as he reflects on the overly dramatic experience. "You are right
Biklaha, this *is* my family.. and I am where I was supposed to be all
along". Kyaltaru feels an overwhelming sense of ambition and drive as he
opens his lips to speak, "I.. I just need a bit of time to think right now",
as he hastily escapes the veil and sits on the nearby shore.

"This magic has strengthened me to levels I could not ever think of before..
and Tel'dethian was surely destroyed, what future did I have there? And who
am I to dwell on the past? I should glorify it for where it has brought me
and where I stand. Calbaseeti is the first one to ever make me feel this
free, and with the wisdom of Lord Daevryn, I am unable to be conquered. There
is power in the pain I have felt, and others will continue to feel it." he
finishes his self securing speech and stands up. "This is where I belong..
and this is my family."

"And hopefully you will allow me to be more then that" softly is whispered
from behind him as Calbaseeti covers up her reddening face with her gilded
death mask.

A cheer of mixed voices echo behind him from the rocky banks of Voralia's
tears... he was married. Calbaseeti stood next to him with a glowing smile as
she fixed her diamond wedding ring, and he fixed his wedding band as well
trying to emanate the same joy as hers to no avail.

What had he gotten himself into? He couldn't even conquer his own feelings,
let alone take on the burden of someone elses.  He should have just listen to
Daevryn.. but he couldn't help trying to at least get over his sorrow.. just
a little bit. Calbaseeti was the first soul he has ever met that made him
forget the pain of his brother, even if it was just a slight amount. How
could he ignore a woman with the same mindset as him? He wants to be great,
he wants to finally feel some sort of praise to balance his constant feelings
of being the underdog. Maybe he can have his relationship, and the
greatness... and she can strengthening him in that endeavor the whole way.

Extending his views of balance beyond the light and darkness.. beyond chaos
and order.. perhaps their relationship is truly what he needs. She truly is
the iconoclast of love, and what better than to have his mirror image at his
side? Only time will tell, and almost feeling at one now with what made him,
he knows his magic can only get stronger if he perseveres.

Dreary notes fill the air in the city of Hamsah Mu'Tazz. Kyaltaru is holding
an amber flask from the pits of hell and clutching it tightly. "Now.. to just
trick my wife.. why did you have to bring me to such lengths Lord Twist?" he
whispers with his grog stained breath. After some searching, he finds her,
and he slips the flask into his wife's pockets. Running to the base of the
Khalid river he tells her to quaff the first flask she finds, and her eyes
glaze over with the gaze of a construct. "I love you so much right now, I
don't know why I have this crazy feeling" she whispers softly as Kyaltaru
begins to feel more terrible by the minute. Handing her a whole flask of
scotch, he tells her to drink up as he begins to watch her...

It almost seems as if her mind is deteriorating by the minute, "I feel
terrible.. why am I drinking? I can't drink.. but I love you so much, I will
do what you say." she mutters as she falls in the river, almost drowning.
After snapping out of the trance of the love potion, she becomes so irate
that Kyaltaru almost feels the wrath of a woman could be stronger than
anything. She sends herself home and ceases her words for days.

He thinks for weeks, "What was the lesson I was supposed to learn? Why would
Lord Twist allow me to put my marriage on the line?". A blinding light fills
his eyes as the pure columns of mana appear before him shaping into Twist. "I
never thought I would see the day she drank, but then again.. that is the
lesson" he boldly states as he disperses and disappears once again.

"I have been merely a protector of magic, I cannot truly comprehend what this
means," Kyaltaru sadly whispers, but then it hits him. "Wait! With magic..
anything is possible!" and he almost sounds excited for once as knowledge
begins to fill his mind. Cherishing the knowledge of his first spell and
feeling the Might of Magic, he swares to himself to continue his path until
he breaths his last to defend this mysterious yet freedom invoking
phenomenon.

His drunken haze clears as he lifts his head within the Isle.. "Where.. where
did it go?" he whispers under his breath. He puts his hand over his heart and
breathes deeply only to feel his burdens lifted, the surging anxiety that has
plagued his heart for over seven hundred years. He tries to think about his
brother, but there is not one bit of disdain or anger that arises. He tries
to think of his frailty in combat, yet still feels strength and pride.

The lull of the waves below him crashes softly underneath the veil and speaks
uplifting words. Helping his forsake all his thoughts, she heals him, and
nudges him to continue. He nods to himself with pride at his recent success,
and stands up slowly.

His brittle body almost gives out on him as he rises, yet he regains his
footing. "My work here is almost done, but I must fight until the end.. this
Isle has given me hope, it has given me enlightenment, it has given me
strength... but most of all, a family that is irreplaceable. I praise you
Lord Twist, Lord Daevryn, and Lady Rayihn, for the chance you have given me.
The village sulks, the tippers of balance hide, and I am finally happy..
thanks to you."

Kyaltaru Tel'dethian steps onto the Island after a long rest. His demeanor
has been accepted by most, making him even more well liked among his piers of
the Isle. He stretches enjoying the newfound feeling of awakening without
hangovers until he hears a few words he cannot believe..

"Congratulations Rhyme."

Blinking with disbelief he cannot help but feel the newfound invigoration
within his bones. He shakes in head in awe that he actually accomplished the
words Neltouda spoke to him. He swears to himself to stand strong and fight
until he cannot fight anymore. His steps to being remembered as great seem to
echo much louder now.

The clatter of an army rings among the Isle... "Eight Imperials! Fargin'
'ell!" yells Rhyaldrin as the guardian of balance seems to fall almost
instantly. Before Kyaltaru can even make it home, the tenacious bonded pair
have already fallen and the key finds itself within the Imperial Throne.

Regrouping within Hamsah, Kyaltaru rallies his Nexuns within the sandy city
preparing a counterstrike. "We must be fearless, it is OUR key!" he says with
inspiration. He clutches his claw, ready to be summoned into death, or
greatness, whichever comes first. He flies through the sky to the brewhouse
the moment his feet touch their lands only to face the seven forces of
darkness. He sings with all his might retreating them all forcefully as his
comrades retake the key.

They regroup back in Hamsah with victory dancing on the air as the Burning
Desire meets them. He offers a bit of praise, as much as Lord Daevryn can
give, and Kyaltaru suddenly feels a bit of pain as the Lord places a tattoo
on his left arm. Looking at it with a sense of pride, he realizes how close
he is to greatness as he humbly thanks the Lord.

Feeling driven with ambition he leads his Isle to an evening of intense
bloodshed and can only feel pride for his growing Islanders, knowing eternal
balance and magic is just around the corner.

Wailing cries fill the Island as the Nexuns wonder what is wrong with
Kyaltaru. "I barely even got to say goodbye! Why did she do this!?" he
screams with morning terror. A somber ambiance fills the air and the minstrel
tries to gather his bearing but cannot. Turning to the only thing that eased
his pain before, he let's alcohol enter his lips after his short time of
being a teetotaler.

His wife was dead. The only thing that helped him out of his depression, to
show him his potential, to give him a family that he once lost.. it was all
lost once again.

Dread overcomes him as he runs to others in Thera seeking some kind of peace,
but none is found. Lornis plagues him with false hopes of a place where his
dread can be accepted, Lornkanamas tries to console him.. but it is
impossible to understand the hurt.

"Everything I had, is gone. All I have is an Island that looks up to me,
needing inspiration, yet I am crushed. I should have listened to Lord Daevryn
damnit, this only brought me more pain, I was so foolish! To hell with being
a Teetotaler, this ale is what soothes me.. it is all that can keep me sane
enough to lead the Isle."

Reverting back to even when he was in the deepest of his depression, he grabs
his ale and clutches his sorrowful heart. "I will never forget you my love..
but I am too great to be broken by you. I hope your spirit lives on, but mine
my stay here for now.. no matter how much death would bring relief."

*** Kyaltaru Tel'dethian writhes around in his sleep, his forlorn stature
apparent even in his subconscious. As he rustles under the bonsai tree.. he
beings to whisper inaudibly and you decide to peer into his mind ***

He stands before a palace made of wood within the trees. Looking frantically
about, every bit of the scene looks terrifying. Bats screech into the night
sky, wolves howl, and any bit of light that shines from the moon is of a
blood red hue. He takes a cautious step forward, and comes to a small street
of wooden walkways among the trees. Four small dwellings are placed on the
sides as he creeps forward to see what has happened, realizing he is within
Tel'dethian.

Opening the first door he takes a step back in shock... His brother Farunil
stands evilly over the corpse of their father, a broken crown on his head,
and large protruding fangs stained red stare back at him. "You never had the
heart to be king brother... this is my city now..." Farunil whispers under
his breath. Kyaltaru takes another step backwards and looks down at his
lifeless father one last time.. rage enters his heart as he takes a step
forward to swing at his brother, only to have him disappear along with the
corpse. "You.. you can keep it you chaotic excuse for life." he says
hesitantly while closing the door to the dwelling.

He runs to the next dwelling just looking for an escape and swings the door
open with his small arms. An image looking like a zombie of Woldrun stares
back at him with completely white eyes. "I knew you would be my bane, you
wicked slave of magic." Kyaltaru glances about not feeling threatened as
Woldrun falls to his side lifelessly, his body exploding into a radiance of
blue mana. "I merely harbor it you fool, the world needs it, it conquered the
iconoclast of it's hatred did it not?" and he steps out deftly.

Not even knowing what do to, he opens the next door without stepping in. A
whole mountain can be see with dwarves and duergar spread about it. "'ey
everyone, look up there! Ah can't believe mah fargin' eyes! It's Kyaltaru!"
echoes through the valley. The mountain looks much more peaceful than when he
left it. He hones the voice to his old friend Gulden, now wearing a crown.
"Yeh saved all o' us mate! Weh 'eard yer doin' it elsewhere now! Yer on the
right path, yeh keep pushin'!" and the voice trails with the door falling off
it's hinges leading to nothing.

Overcome with emotion, tears begin to well up in his eyes. "Who am I now?!"
he yells loudly into the sky. He runs to the next door in hope it will lead
him to where he belongs. Ripping it open wildly he closes his eyes and runs
in... as he opens them the entire Isle stands over him under the bonsai tree
in worry as the priestess Calbaseeti kneels next to him... "Are you okay
dear?"

I have been beaten and downtrodden,
Betrayed, broken, then healed.
Bastardized and stripped of my rights,
With no emotions to feel.

Yet, why do I feel freedom?
It rings loud in my soul.
Because I found purpose,
And put myself in control.

I thank those Dwarves for that day,
When I was beaten into the dust.
Else I would have never found power,
My spirit hung, left to rust.

My voice rose up from it's slumber,
Because it had melded with magic,
I thank you Lord Twist,
For allowing me to have it.

But now this road lies in front of me,
With just no end in sight.
Theres is only one way to travel,
And every step is a fight.

May it all be for Balance and Magic,
And I will fit where I may,
For it is only these two things,
That allow me to stand here this day.

They birthed a new creature,
They strengthened his spirit,
And now everyone shall hear my song,
Even if they wish not to hear it.

Kyaltaru Tel'dethian

***Decisions:***
-He has decided to take his old city as his last name to always remind him of
the events in the past. Realizing the future can always change, and also
change you, he uses this as his way of never forgetting what sculped him and
the revelations he received.

-He views those who rebel against balance as the strong. Needing to be dealt
with, he has vowed to be the one to do so, through words or action. Hearing
whispers of Urtrekis upon arriving in Thera, he will seek him out for more
wisdom of this.

-He also heard rumors of an Island where a group of souls seek the same thing
as himself. He has sworn to enter their ranks and learn from them to do what
he has purposed better.

***Himself:***
-He sings songs of tragedy to express his inner anguish and cry of his
heart... knowing it is his only release to grieve of the past and still be a
man.

-After seeing the duergar dark knight in the mountain, he realized the
strength of magic. He was healed by it when hurt, saw it's destructive power,
and now can feel it tingle in his throat every time he lifts up a canticle.
He will do anything to protect it, viewing it as a binding that holds this
world together.

-Feeling no need to candy coat situations, he is brutally honest, and often
too blunt. Perhaps others will have pity on him, or take offense, but he
cannot change who he is.

-Safety overwhelms him within the confines of caves, and he tends to praddle
about his amazement at their formation and construct.

-He despises all forms of blood brotherhood due to Farunil, and is often very
untrusting with friends. Though a few will surely enter his circle of trust.

-A place dwells in his heart for Dwarves that stick to their heritage. Not
making their life about light, but about being a true dwarf. It is here where
he learned how to drink, and it is one of the few things that eases his soul.

-He sings now with a comedic style, simply to mask his pain and suffering.
Knowing if he sings in a dreary fashion, it will only draw attention and make
him dwell on the past instead of remember it the right way.. as what sculpted
him. Though, in the future, as he becomes one with himself.. he will sing the
true song in his heart.

*** Let the life of this young minstrel shake the earth with his actions
among the Island.. bringing strength and burning ambition where it is truly
needed. ***

The duergar struck the "Holy Dwarves" after a few days, only losing two men
to the sixty they slayed in the onslaught. They grew much respect for
Kyaltaru. Beginning to mediate between the two sides, Kyaltaru was amazed at
the newfound humility the "Holy Dwarves" had taken up after their beating.
They were the strongest power for miles, they knew it.. they held it over all
who came in contact with them. But with Kyaltaru's information and bravery,
the "Holy Dwarves" had repented. They began to trade and aid other's around
them, and swore to keep peace with the duergar that lived below them.

Kyaltaru felt accomplished, and revelation after revelation began to come to
him. If life was not taken in balance, the good and the evil.. the orderly
and chaotic.. all it ever led to was depression, death, and broken lives. His
spirit was more than strong, and although a purpose was brewing within him..
he could not help but dwell on the fact he had no family, and as much as he
appreciated Gulden and his clan, he wasn't fulfilled.

Realizing the three groups were set in their new ways of life, able to live
alone with no fear, doing their own things.. their own desires, he felt he
must see what else is in life. Receiving Gulden's blessings, the dwarves
hailed him as one they will never forget, and gave him permission to leave.
He wandered the land as a travelling minstrel for a few years, working on his
own songs, his own way of fighting, until he stumbled upon Thera.

After some exploration and absolute bewilderment at the creatures running
about.. he found a guild claiming to cater to those who loved music, they
advertised that their songs were imbued with magic, able to do things never
before done. Taking their mark, he walked into their bar and received a few
lessons, feeling at peace with his path. He was a bit anxious within the city
though and he nestled into some open plains nearby.

"This will be my new life. Other's will soon understand what I've experienced
and seen. Let Thera be balanced, may they understand.. and may I find other's
that feel the same" was uttered from his lips as he softly fell asleep within
the tall grass.

Kyaltaru failed to notice the small gathering of dwarves silently forming
behind him as he sang, nor had Kyaltaru ever even experienced this grandeur
expression of psalms before. His eyes closed as he seemed to become one with
his song, channeling his energy through it.

"Yeh ain't nah dwarven warrior, that's fer sure!" bellowed Gulden from
behind. "But yeh sure as 'ell found yer strength, and yer onna us now, so weh
need ter beh accepting yeh in this!"

Slightly embarassed, Kyaltaru stood up and smoothed the wrinkles from his
clothing as he attempted to look more presentable in an anxious fashion. He
had heard of minstrel's before, but it never hit him that it may be his
calling. As soon as he opened his mouth to answer Guldan, an explosion from
behind rolled him forward and he lost consciousness for a mere second.

"To arms, men! To ARMS!" shouted Gulden as Kyaltaru stood up and regained
himself. Looking toward the end of the cave, fifteen duergar had poured out
of a small hole looking to have manifested from some kind of explosive. The
dwarves dug their feet in the ground fearless and ready to fight, and the
duergar's obvious leader emerged from the settling dust. A feared dark
knight, screams echoing from his axe nestled into his clinched fist, took
another step forward with a menacing smirk smeared across his face.

"Still want ter worship the light?" cackled the evil being. "Yeh should have
came with our ancestors long ago, alla yeh are deceived, and alla yeh deserve
teh die" he whispered under his breath in disdain.

Kyaltaru, already feeling no purpose to live, stepped forward in pure
bravery. Walking right before the dark knights face, he stood there.
Completely bewildered and confused at this, the dark knight took a step back
in contemplation. Kyaltaru explained the dwarves situation, and Gulden made a
treaty with the duergar, and told them where the ones they truly sought were.

Agonizing pain consumed him from the inside out as his eyes opened slightly
as they twitched from his maledictions.

"'ey! Get over 'ere yeh soddin' gits!.. Weh got a broken elf over 'ere!"
bellowed through the dark forest around him, unable to raise his head and
sense the direction of the voice. Passing out from the pain again, he slipped
into darkness.

As he reawakened he found himself within a well constructed cave. The pain
was gone and he realized he was cleaned and wrapped in linens as white as
snow. "Yer lucky our transmuter's and 'ealer's know a thing er two about
magic there fella," bellowed from behind him. "It's the only reason yer
alive. Yeh almost would 'ave thought yeh were a Dwarf livin' through that!
Tha names Gulden."

Gulden positioned himself within Kyaltaru's vision and began to help his
mental state with what had happened. He learned he was so far away from
Tel'dethian that he likely could never even find it again, and these dwarves
had completely saved his life. They branched off from their old settlement on
the mountain they were in because they were becoming too religious. Life was
only about the light there, being pure, and anyone who even made a mistake
was scoffed at for weeks for their "impurity". Gulden and his followers
wanted nothing to do with good or evil anymore, and just wished to live a
life in their own strength and hard work, they were fierce.. they were true
warriors.

Kyaltaru was devastated to the depths of his soul and spirit, his family, his
future kingdom, everything was stripped of him... forever. And all because
chaos overpowered the order of his city, at the peek hours of night and
silence or not. His demeanor was less than positive, but he began to train
with the warriors.. not talking much, for a bitterness swelled within him and
these dwarves deserved nothing but respect.

Feeling purposeless, and never able to match these dwarven warriors in
combat, he became even more disheartened. What was the point in even being
alive anymore? As he walked to the very silent end of the cave, he opened his
mouth and began to express his anguish in song.

Kyaltaru had lived with his father and brother in the palace ever since he
was born, but as he continued to excel in his studies and make his father
proud.. his father decided it was time to reward him with his own dwelling as
a step into manhood. The King could see the envy continuously building up
within Farunil as well, and he feared for the safety of his beloved child and
future king. With the security of his son in mind, he constructed him his own
dwelling, but little did he know.. it would be the bane of his child...

After Kyaltaru had moved in, there came a night that changed everything.
Farunil knew that he would live in his brothers shadow for his whole life if
he did not make a move, so he and three of his cronies planned a strike upon
him. As Kyaltaru laid to rest in the darkness, Farunil and his band lurked to
his abode when the moon moved directly above them.

Picking the lock silently they slipped into Kyaltaru's house on soft feet as
they decended upon him like a skilled assassination plot. Farunil gagged him
and they bound his legs and his hands behind his back as they lifted him from
his bed. As they exited the front door they threw him over the side of the
bridge as Kyaltaru fell helplessly to the forest floor with a boneshattering
crush...

Writhing in angish and nearly unconscious he laid there as he heard his
deceitful brother scaling the tree down to him. He closed his eyes and just
continued his muttled utterances under the silk gag he choked on. "You will
never be better then me dear brother..." echoed off his eardrums as he opened
his eyes. The gag was ripped out of his mouth but he had no energy left to
even cry out. He was finally able to focus upon his brother as he grinned
evilly as he held a glowing vial. "You may die elsewhere and forever be
erased Kyaltaru." spoke Farunil as he poured a mysterious vial of liquid down
Kyaltaru's throat.

Kyaltaru's head began to pound with his heart rapidly matching it's pulses
before he passed out from the pain he could not stand any longer.

The life of this young minstrel has been nothing short of arduous, yet a
strong spirit can never be broken...

Kyaltaru was birthed in Tel'dethian, a large city of intricate wood-elven
construct, quite peaceful and hidden from the outside world. The city itself
was breathtaking, built high in the trees and connected by thousands of rope
bridges from one house to the next. It hovered a bit over three hundred feet
in the air, far out of reach from any large scale attack or beasts.

The father of Kyaltaru just so happened to be the leader of Tel'dethian, his
wife had passed and he was only left with his two twin sons. He ruled this
city with a soft yet just heart, and so had his family before him ever since
it's establishment.

Kyaltaru's brother, Farunil, was beyond a mischevious prank artist. Always
creating chaos wherever he went, even within his daily classes. Kyaltaru
began to grow disdain for Farunil and the tainting he would bring daily to
their name with his disrespect. Kyaltaru's father could not help but to show
more favor toward his more well behaved son, as he was becoming older and
knowing the leadership would be his one day.
