Description

Tall, much taller than average and wiry for a giant, this sea foam green beast looms nearby. Long strands of kelp-like hair are offset by long and bushy brows. An almost aquiline nose and fierce emerald eyes lend a savage nobility to an otherwise gentle demeanor. Signs of his faith are tattooed across his face and arms with lightning bolts and symbols of gales and huge waves adorning him.

Role

Chapter One The Simple Path.

Added Wed Jan 3 18:39:34 2007 at level 19:
Lanning WaveStrider was born to a religious clan of giants from
the stormy Western Aryth. Long faithful followers or their gods,
most went into the priesthood. Lanning was not cut out for the cloistered life.
His itch to travel the waves and even onto the firmlands,
had branded him unusual, even in a clan of zealots.
His faith was no less strong, if of a different vein than most.
Lanning believed in the old ways, the primitive gods called the Ancients
by modern tongues. He long wished for a simple, more basic existence than
commonly found, even among the waves where simplicity was a virtue.
Not having even a name of the Ancients that he felt a calling to,
Lanning followed the spirit of the storms and worshipped the ancient power they held.
And so he cast off the more refined training of the cloistered or the
the discipline of the warrior, to relish the simple savagery of the storms
and the power they held to bring right all that had long since gone wrong.

Life gets simpler and more complicated.

Added Sun Jan 7 20:12:10 2007 at level 29:
As Lanning continued on seeking the simple path of the Ancients,
he discovered he could make do with less and less as he learned more.
But he also realized that the fight to restore the times of the Ancients was
more than a single soul could handle. So he sought and joined a band
of those who also sought the return. A band of brigands and outlaws,
rogues and hunters, and even a naked druid or two. The group was the Outlanders.
While not all walked in the path of the Sun following the storms, he could
see them as being useful in the their own way. Not that he ever wanted
to share a wave with them, but then he felt that way about jellyfish too.
And so while Lanning's life continued to simplify, it also got involved in the politics
of strife and struggle between those trying to destroy the Ancients for all time,
and those seeking their return to walk Thar-Eris.

The Adventure begins to get interesting.

Added Wed Jan 10 21:29:39 2007 at level 31:
Lanning was much amused by his journey thus far, despite managing to get stuck
in the same trap twice and carelessly walking into an avalanche another time.
Through his wanderings, he found himself with an axe made of lightning and a sword
made of water. Wielding them together felt almost like he had a storm
brewing in his fists. If also brought the first time
to lend his strength to the defense of the Huntress.
Two of the Tribunal came, both more learned warriors, a gnome
and a half-bred drow. They had come to retrieve the scales.
Lanning strode in and quickly chased them off, one bloodied, one just scared.
However, they re-grouped and returned, with one warrior in reserve to counter.
Regardless, Lanning ambushed a mighty blow against the gnome and quickly
while imitating the savage bear, dispatched the warrior, while the other
had attacked him in the meantime. Lanning communed with the beasts,
and a wolf came to his aid, and the second was quickly killed as well.
Though Lanning was a bit bloodied, he felt bouyed by the success against older and better
trained foes and felt vindication for his simple ways.
And he felt the power of the Storm grow, speeding the return.

Growing in the guild.

Added Wed Jan 17 13:12:02 2007 at level 42:
The oceans were spread wide before Lanning WaveStrider, now that his skills had grown.
He had swum deep into the bottom of the Aryth and ventured into the inky blackness
of the Sea of Despair. As he became more familiar with himself and the seas,
he felt his hunting prowess grow. Lanning's battles with others were not many,
but thus far he had managed to run off several more learned than he.
Now however, things had gotten challenging indeed, for his prey were among
the most learned in the land in their respective guilds, while he
still had much to learn.

So Lanning learned to hunt to his advantage, in the sea while he continued to grow.
And where he had few to fear, save the black magics for which he had few defenses.
He felt the power of the Sun and Storm growing though, despite the many
forces aligned against them both, and the return of the Ancients could
not be far away.
