Description
This statuesque woman stands very near six feet in height, all graceful
curves. Braids course down from her golden head to about mid-back length.
Eyes that are almost an unnaturally bright shade of blue seem to glow
faintly as she looks around her. In fact, all of her glows faintly with a
pale, golden light that shimmers, ebbs, and intensifies seemingly at random.
In the more intense moments, you see a pair of ghostly, golden wings
extending from her shoulder blades. But as the glow ebbs, it is as if the
wings were never there.
The woman wears an assortment of armor and weaponry, and is clearly no
stranger to battle. But her clothing and gear is meticulous. She carries
herself with a posture of pride and confidence. There is something oddly
intense about her, a sense of unpredictability. Her expression is impossible
to read.

Character Summary
* Larishae shares her body with a powerful Seraph named Naya'il.
* Naya'il came to Larishae while she lay dying on a battlefield, healing and
transforming her body.
* Larishae is a pure soul, but (formerly) rather weak, naive, and inexperienced.
* Naya'il desires only to destroy evil, and requires a physical body to
accomplish this.
* Naya'il, once a commander of a great angelic army, came from the Azure Fields, drawn to combat the evil she sensed in the material plane.
* Naya'il came here to wage war with the forces of evil, and cares for nothing
else.
* They share the same body, but have separate consciousnesses. These sometimes conflict.
* Naya'il can assert her control of the body in only minor ways unless
Larishae grants her full control.
Larishae Personality and Character Traits
She is a pure-hearted person, who desperately longs to do the right thing. She
wants to fight the forces of evil in any way she can. But she is a little
timid, and very inexperienced. She was the weakest student when it came to
combat training, and possessed no true talent in warfare. Instead, she was
talented with writing. Still, she tries as hard as she can and never gives up.
She would throw herself into a dangerous situation without hesitation if she
thought it would make a difference for the light. Being inhabited and
transformed by an angelic being has heightened her senses and emotions, making
her more unstable and sensitive.
Naya'il Personality and Character Traits
No-nonsense, brash, direct, utterly tactless. She was once the commander of
armies, and thinks of herself this way still even though her power is greatly
diminished here in the material plane. She can be arrogant, and has little
time for the trivialities of mortal life. She resents the weakness of the
human body. Pain only makes her drive harder. She glories in the destruction
of evil. To her, this is all a war and she WILL win. She is drawn to The
Fortress of Light, to be part of the greatest combat force in Thera. She is
drawn to Baerinika, whose warrior spirit reminds her of a great angelic
leader.
Naya'il Enters the Material Plane
Added Sat Feb 17 19:19:37 2024 at level 13:
Naya'il languished.
Once a great commander of an angelic army, Naya'il led the charge against the
demonic forces at the battle of Myshreth, in the limbo plane that exists
between Hell and the Azure Fields. That battlefield, contested for eternity,
was her home, her sole reason for being. Once she struck mighty blows, felling
tens of demonic foes with each strike of her shimmering sword. She and her
forces cut a swath through the forces of darkness, nearly reaching the portal
to Hell itself. How she longed to enter that portal, to burn the very ground
of that vile place with her holy aura!
But it was not to be. A great demon emerged from the portal, crackling with
dark energy, with the howling forces of Hell at its command, driving she and
her forces back. So fiercely they fought that many of her army fell. In a
final, desperate measure to keep the demonic forces from entering the Azure
Fields itself, they collapsed the portal to Myshreth. Though many attempts had
since been made to re-open the portal and resume their eternal war with evil,
none had succeeded. The demonic forces blocked them somehow. And so, the great
angelic armies sat. Sat and waited. Waited and languished.
Naya'il practiced her combat skills, sweeping her great energy sword in
powerful arcs. Stepping, twirling, beating her great wings, imagining the
forces of evil falling before her as they had always done. She worked herself
up into a holy rage, that such strength as hers should be wasted! Suddenly,
she hear a sound, like a tearing of fabric. She looked toward the sound and
saw what appeared to be a crack in the very air of the Azure Fields. And
through that crack, she smelled the unmistakable stench of evil. A portal! The
forces of Hell were reopening the pathway to Myshreth!
Such was her holy rage, so honed her preparation for war, that she immediately
sounded a deafening call to battle! Before even allowing her forces to rally
to her, Naya'il charged through the crack, sword at the ready to strike at the
demons. But as she emerged on the other side of the portal, what she
encountered instead was insense pain! Her body became insubstantial, and she
felt the worst feeling she could imagine... weakness! She turned to retreat
back through the crack only to find that it was gone. In her panic, she
reached out her angelic senses, searching for some refuge from the anguish.
She felt something, a purity that drew her. She raced toward it. She found
herself before a human woman dying on a battlefield, surrounded by dead. Her
soul was weak, but pure. Naya'il reached out.
Larishae Reborn
Added Sat Feb 17 19:20:52 2024 at level 13:
Larishae lay on her back in the middle of an open field, gazing up at the sky.
She had managed to drag herself to her brother's body, where he had fallen
from his horse, despite the fact that her legs no longer seemed to work. It
would be a comfort to die here by his side. They had stood together against
the Imperial forces. They had done their best. And now they would be together
again in death.
How Walaric had begged her not to join the army. She had always been awful at
fighting. Even after months of training, her blade work was clumsy, slow. Her
talent had always been in writing. And there was no shame in that, her brother
said! But Larishae wanted to make a real difference. She did not just want to
write stories of noble deeds, she wanted to do those deeds. There was true
evil in this world, and she believed that each person must do all they can to
fight against it.
She reached a shaking hand out and found Walaric's own hand. Cold, lifeless.
She clasped her brother's hand as tightly as her waning strength would allow.
Her body was broken, she could hardly draw breath. Larishae gazed up at the
cloudless sky, watching as a bird circled high overhead. Her sight began to
dim. I am dying for something, she thought. This matters. We meant something.
We stood for the light.
Her soul seemed to drift up from her body. She looked down at herself, broken
on the ground below beside her brother. She felt herself drift higher. Then,
quite suddenly, she was jerked upright. A shimmering golden being floated
before her, grasping her shoulder with a powerful, armored hand. The being had
brilliant wings, blazing golden eyes, and clutched a huge pulsating blade of
energy it its other hand. It was the most beautiful and frightening thing she
had ever seen.
"Mortal creature, you are dying," the angel said. There was no concern in the
voice, just a statement of fact. "This need not be. I sense in your soul
purity and a desire to smite evil. Allow me to join with you, and together we
will crush the darkness of this world. We will wage a holy war on the forces
of evil. We will soak the ground with their vile blood and burn away their
flesh with the power of the Seraphim. Do you agree?"
Larishae agreed somehow wordlessly, a spiritual connection. The angel grasped
her soul, and flew back into her broken body. She felt them enter the flesh,
and suddenly she was looking through her own eyes again, but the dimness had
been replaced by an overwhelming intensity. And then the pain began. Larishae
cried out as her body was seared with what felt like heated blades. She
writhed on the ground as she felt herself... changing.
Strength of the Seraphim
Added Sat Feb 17 19:23:14 2024 at level 13:
When Larishae stood, she looked down at the world from a greater height than
she was used to. She looked at her hands, and saw that her skin shimmered with
a golden light that randomly flickered and pulsated. Her body was whole again,
and she felt a deep well of strength within her that she never could have
imagined before. She looked down at her brother's body, and sadness rushed
over her. The depth and intensity of her emotion caused her to fall to her
knees.
"He is dead," she heard herself say, but not in her voice. It was a deeper
voice, somehow amplified and filled with energy. It was the voice of Naya'il.
"Why do you weep? He died for what he believed in. You should glory in his
sacrifice!"
"He was my brother!" Larishae said.
"We will find you new brothers."
Larishae, using her new strength, easily lifted her brother's body in her
arms. Her intensified emotions shifted to anger, and she howled in rage and
anguish. Later, as she watched the pyre she had built for the dead burn, she
spoke with Naya'il. Her village had been lost, destroyed for daring to stand
against the Empire. But the war had only just begun for Larishae and Naya'il.
They would make good on the agreement Larishae had made, to wage war on all
evil in this land.
As they journeyed, Naya'il discovered that her strength in this plane was
greatly diminished. Though she could lend some of her angelic might to
Larishae's physical form, it seemed that to do more might require the
involvement of a greater being from this plane. She could feel a pulling, the
same kind of pulling that brought her to Larishae's dying body. It was toward
a ruin in a jungle, she could see it very clearly in her mind. In that ruin
was a fierce strength, a being not unlike a powerful angel but of the material
plane. Together, Larishae and Naya'il would make the journey to this place.
A tragic mistake
Added Thu Mar 21 19:44:49 2024 at level 51:
Larishae found herself without many enemies to fight, perhaps a testament to
the power of the Light and the comparative weakness of the darkness. Perhaps
just a calm before the storm. Whatever the case, she and Naya'il took the
opportunity to practice battle techniques, train their minds, and work on
plans for the war to come.
As part of this training, Larishae had come up with some combinations that
would allow her to more rapidly summon an enemy and deal a devastating blow
before they had time to react. These combinations were good in theory, but she
felt the need to test one, ensuring it felt correct. She closed her eyes and
focused on what would happen if she were to do the technique in reality. But
so focused was she on the idea that this was a test, that her mind latched
onto that word strongly. Without intending to do so, when she practiced her
summoning, she summoned another who was focused on a test. It was a wine
tester, summoned from his home to where Larishae practiced. But she was not
aware she had done so until the second part of her test, striking a powerful
blow against her enemy. Instead of going through the motions of striking out
at the target of her summons, Larishae was surprised to feel the actual power
surge through her, and when she opened her eyes there was a man struck down
before her. Immediately she felt the wrongness, for man was of the light.
Naya'il, sensing the goodly soul struck down by her own angelic power shrieked
inside of Larishae's head so loud and long that Larishae blacked out for a
moment. When she regained her senses, Naya'il was utterly silent. Larishae was
used to the angel's presence, felt as much as heard at all times. But now, it
was as if Naya'il had departed the body they shared, or perhaps had receded
into some hidden corner of their mind. Larishae was left alone, looking at the
body of one who had been of the light and now was a casualty of a foolish
mistake.
After giving the man a respectful burial, Larishae traveled to the shrine of
Lady Baerinika to pray. She felt lost, awash in her own failure, sickened by
the taint that was now on her soul. But she vowed to find a way to move past
it; to do otherwise would be a further dishonor to the life of that poor man.
And she had Naya'il to think about as well. As much as the Seraph was powerful
and ancient, she was also a stranger here in this plane with Larishae as her
caretaker and guide. She could not fail in this, no mater how horrible she
felt in this moment. She must find some way to carry on and purify her soul.
Attempting to heal
Added Thu Mar 21 19:46:12 2024 at level 51:
In seeking to come to terms with what happened, Larishae sought the council of
those of the Fortress who are meant to be spiritual guides for the Squires
like her. First, she sought the advice of Dhuuston, Elder Prophet. After
hearing the entire chain of events, Dhuuston spoke much on remorse. He said
that it was already a good sign that she felt so deeply about what had
happened, that alone sets her apart from those they fight against. The
conversation focused much on taking personal responsibility, and learning from
what happened to take better actions in the future. It was a comfort to
Larishae to open up to another about what happened, just speaking it aloud and
sharing that burden somehow helped immediately. At the end of the
conversation, Larishae realized that Naya'il loves nothing better than to
smite those of the darkness. Perhaps part of what would be needed to comfort
Naya'il would be to bring some sort of balance to the action that must have
seemed utterly unthinkable to an angel. And so she vowed to take Naya'il to
places of darkness and bring the destruction the angel desires.
Later, Larishae felled the orc chief, Watclawsh, and felt Naya'il stir within
her for the first time since the accident. Several more deaths of evil
adventurers, and much destruction of the darkness to strengthen the light,
seemed to strengthen Naya'il's presence, though she still did not speak.
Another who gave her advice was Durmicke, a Scribe still but a very wise one.
In listening to what happened and what actions Larishae had taken so far, he
suggested she seek out the family or people of the man she had mistakenly
felled. He suggested that since he was a wine tester, he might have come from
near Balator, the winery there. He suggested that, even though nothing could
change what happened, at least them knowing would stop them wondering where
their loved-one had gone, and remove false hope of his return to them.
And so she did seek out those people. The man did come from that winery.
Though the family of the wine tester was unknown, the people there listed to
Larishae as she recounted what had happened. They were coldly silent, looking
at her with accusatory eyes, even as she explained how horrible she felt. It
was not unexpected. Larisae had steeled herself for whatever reaction these
people might have, for she was responsible for the death of their loved-one.
She did not expect forgiveness, only that they should know what happened so
they had closure. She walked away from that encounter feeling both horrible
and also somehow... purer. Nothing could ever make what happened right, but
these actions at least somewhat faded the stain upon her soul.
At last, after many months had passed, Naya'il's voice returned. It was a
comfort to Larishae, knowing that her soul was purified enough to still share
the body with this angel, and that she had not forever failed to guide Naya'il
here in this plane.
