Description
At just shy of six and a half feet, this muscular young man
has a remarkable appearance. His body is as an artist's creation
with swirls of tattooed color juxtaposed with the contours of
deliberate scarring. His slightly pointed ears peek from a
bizarrely coiffed hairstyle, the floppy fringe of which brushes
over rounded eyes of aquamarine blue, impossibly captivating.
His dusky skin tone causes the scar tissue to be more prominent, as
it winds in and out among the clothing and armor he bears.
You wonder whether any of the multiple weapons he carries were
used to effect the affect, lethal as they appear to be. The armor
and clothes themselves look to be mismatched, but somehow the
eclectic combination has its appeal.
You also notice crossed leather straps passing over his shoulders
and onto his chest. They seem to be holding paint brushes with
some suspicious stains on them, as well as chisels and other small tools.
Role
Joining the Academy
Added Sun Jan 6 16:07:56 2019 at level 5:
Son of Garron, the human gladiator famed for representing Udgaard
in many victories in Galadon's arena, and Chrysilin, dark-elven mistress
of Udgaard's necromancer guild, much was expected of the young
half-breed, Larnu.
For a time, his parents believed that their boy, who showed talent
for everything he tried, would live up to that promise, becoming
a great mage, or a warrior of reknown. Unfortunately, Larnu had
other ideas. Specifically, he liked drawing. And painting. And pottery.
Sometimes a bit of woodwork if it was for ascetics rather than utility.
Stone sculpture was a favorite of his too. But his talents exceeded
those of most artists, and Larnu was able to create art from the
interplay of light, the indirect effects of mana, and the randomness
found within nature and within battle.
Disappointed with their progeny, his parents packed him off to Galadon's
Academy, famed establishment where many a hero, and leader of factions
political and religious, had been honed and shaped. Larnu, however, was
going to study Art. And frankly, if his parents cared about art,
they wouldn't be kiving in Udgaard, would they?
Now in his third decade, Larnu was fully under the effects of puberty.
Which is why he wasn't paying as much attention to the enrolment
paperwork as he was to the various females of human and elven
parentage. And so it was that Larnu, having gathered together his paint
brushes, entered what he expected to be a studio, only to find himself
beset by leathery creatures in the Academy arena. Being so talented
(did I mention his talent?) he rapidly dispatched the creatures, using
his paint brushes in a variety of innovative, painful, and ultimately
fatal ways, pausing only to admire the effect of the arterial spray
on the arena floor, and perhaps the effect of various other bodily fluids
(or part-solids). It was, in its own way, something of a masterpiece,
he fancied.

Becoming a dark knight
Added Sun Jan 6 16:29:52 2019 at level 5:
Nevertheless, he was horrified when, having created his performing
art, or arguably textile art, or was it concept art, he was summoned to
report to the guildmaster of the anti-paladins for his next lesson.
What in the nine helkls had he signed up to while ogling that fetching
half-drow in the gi that left little to the imagination? Could he
really have ticked the box for Anti-paladin lectures instead of Art
lectures? What orc turd thought it was a goid idea to put things in
alphabetical order instead of grouping similar disciplines together?
The latter would have meant that an inattentive student was still
doing classes remotely appealing to himself! Resolved to use his
family connections to address the situation, and hoping it wouldn't
get back to his parents, he circled around the Academy (not for the
last time!) to attend the AP guildmaster.
Unfortunately, the guildmaster made it very clear that
he didn't care about Mommy and Daddy, and gave Larnu several lashes
on his back to ensure the lesson wasn't forgotten. This didn't have
quite the desired affect though as Larnu couldn't help but notice his
welts in the mirror and admire the intricate pattern that the
guildmaster had created. Peehaps being an anti-paladin wouldn't be all
bad. It might even impress his parents, which is something he hadn't
ever expected would happen. A fusion of magic and brawn could please
both his mother and his father.
It also occurred to Larnu that the appeal to art was thst it gave a
window into the soul of the creator, and even, sometimes, the subject.
How much more artistic would it be if the material used was the essence
of souls itself? This, coupled with the fact that that half-drow hottie
was passing by the door to the guildmaster's office, convinced him that
perhaps he was on the right path after all. This training would
enable his art, rather than stifle it!
sphere and consideration for edge
Added Sun Jan 6 16:41:43 2019 at level 5:
Larnu's sphere, Purity, drives his obsession with his art. Because of
it, he only applies himself diligently to things he considers
to be furthering art or creating it. He has a very broad interpretation
of what art is though, and sees most of life through a lens that
sees art where others would, or might, not.
He believes art is a product or manifestation of the soul. However,
he believes only mortals have souls as no necromancee has tormented
the soul of a god.
Consequently he doesn't believe gods contribute to art and thus scorns
them. He, with magic, brawn, and his own soul, is so much more. He
rejects them and their congregations and priesthoods.
If any imm is willing, I would love to have Champion of Man edge
early on in his life, when it is still hard to gather gold to buy
the preps that could replace a healer mob, or reach useful preps.
At hero, it would still be challenging, but I'd like to try it as
a lowbie if you are willing.
Thanks for reading!
Art gripes
Added Mon Jan 14 14:48:56 2019 at level 12:
Society is blinkered. Each defines art so narrowly, often punishing
those that seek to push beyond the expected forms. The empire
discourages art showing freedom. The priesthoods lay claim on the
medium of souls, not accepting that using souls in art transcends
all else a soul could aspire to.
So restrictive. But I'll create art my way. Just let them try to
stop me!

Larnu has taken his father's surname as his own.
He hopes that it, together with his new but
unplanned career, might please his parents

Tends to get obsessive about collections, only to abandon them suddenly.
At the moment he's obsessed with footwear. This was brought on by
conversations with the thief Gerda.
He's pretty sure thsat Gerda has a foot fetish and only asks to see
his collection in order to sniff them.
Demeanor
Added Sun Feb 24 16:43:19 2019 at level 26:
Sometimes I am embarrassed by my acting, despite the
rewards I reap from it. It reminds me of when
I was but a callow youth clumsily seeking to
the object of my affection. Or just anyone!
Still, as I said, the rewardsare significant.
Without me having to demand, or even ask, strangers
offer me help. It's almost as good as
having a patron if note for my art!
