Description
This fully matured half-elf stands at around five feet and seven inches.
Although his youth seems to have passed him by, indicated by some light
wrinkling around his eyes, this half-elf appears to still be very fit.
His build is fairly stocky and well toned for a half-elf, indicative of a
lifestyle that favors movement. His pale oval face is adorned with two
large dark blue eyes, somewhat thin lips and a slightly larger than
average crooked nose. There is a light spattering of freckles on his
cheeks and nose. He has straight dark brown hair that is cut longish,
covering most of his forehead and his slightly pointy ears just barely
peek out from underneath the mess. The hair appears auburn under certain
lighting and there's some light graying at its ends.
Role
Role: Overview of Background
Added Thu Jun 7 22:20:14 2012 at level 3:
--Parents: Siva Elvold and Elain Solana
--Siva Elvold was an honest blacksmith and trader, who wandered the lands
selling his goods. Elain Solana was a travelling elven storyteller prior
to meeting Siva. The two met in Darsylon by happenstance, and they fell
in love. The two ended up settling down in Galadon after they got
married to each other.
--Siva and Elain had two children: Leric and Jeya. Jeya is Leric's
senior by five years.
-- Siva was generally busy working at the smith and selling his goods to
provide for the family. Elain, at first, was free to raise the two
children, making sure they were literate and had basic knowledge on how
to take care of themselves when they leave the household. This didn't
last, however, and Elain had to go work at the local Inn to help
supplement Siva's income. Leric was ten years old and Jeya was fifteen
years old. Jeya was deemed old enough to watch out for Leric.
--Leric and Jeya ended up being street children of Galadon, just getting
home early enough to avoid arousing suspicions from their parents. The
two siblings managed to stay out of any serious trouble, using their
natural intelligence, "borrowing" their father's weapons and teamwork to
survive on the streets.
--Leric's sister than vanished for reasons unknown though neither parent
were too surprised(suggesting that they may know where she went). Leric
decided that this meant it was time for him to leave the household and
look for his sister as he travelled Thera.
Role: Overview of Personality/Motives
Added Thu Jun 7 22:49:03 2012 at level 4:
--Leric is trying to find his sister, have a little fun, adventure and
excitement, while trying to make coin to provide for himself, friends and
family.
--Leric is mostly a good individual, if a little rough around the edges.
He generally wants to be helpful to anyone who is not of the shadow.
Leric is willing to steal from those of the middle path, though he is
mindful in the sense that he will not steal so much that this person is
endangered. He will not steal from those of the light, except in dire
circumstances(or as a practical, harmless joke).
--Leric is naturally athletic and quick, and likes to remain fairly
active. He also grew up believing that the best way to survive is to not
be seen. Leric is willing to fight, if the circumstances are deemed
necessary, but he prefers more crafty or peaceful solutions to a problem.
--Leric seems to be distrustful of most mages, due to an unacknowledged
fear. Despite this, his curious nature makes him want to learn more and
use it as a tool. Mages that are of the light are mostly immune to
Leric's distrust, as the half-elf reasons that these individuals must be
pure enough to remain uncorrupted in using magic.
--Leric likes socializing and his alcohol. He seems to also want to
spread good will and cheer to other individuals. In time, his
personality and skills might deem him a decent fit as a performer for the
Inn of the Eternal Star.
The Thieves Guild and Explanation of his Skills
Added Wed Jun 13 17:25:49 2012 at level 39:
--Leric is part of the Galadon Thieves' guild, but is not too interested
in becoming Kingpin. This might change if he feels someone dangerous
ends up in a decent position to take over or if he becomes a bit more
ambitious as far as the Guild goes. He's probably too laid back to make
a real effort, though, unless his inaction would cause real problems in
the future.
--He mainly paid his dues to make sure the guild doesn't bother his
family or himself. Growing up as a mostly unattended child meant he had
to get some protection from the guild. Naturally, no thieves' guild does
any of this for free. Paying the dues was his way to insure that he
would not be harassed over it.
--Leric learned most of the basic skills from growing up in Galadon, and
getting a few lessons from the Guildmaster there. He is also agile,
acrobatic, and seems to have an interest in being able to perform
physical feats that no other individual in Thera can perform. He isn't
quite that skilled, but he has hopes in getting there.
--Leric is also the curious sort, and generally wants to be able to get
into anything or past any door. Locked doors tend to be frustrating to
him, especially if he can't find an adequate key for it. In efforts to be
better at exploration and finding things that he probably shouldn't find,
he has honed his locksmithing skills.
Thoughts on Magic
Added Wed Jun 13 22:06:06 2012 at level 39:
--Leric's distrust of magic was largely due to ignorance, but being the
curious half-elf he is, he always wanted to know a bit more and maybe
even use it, provided it didn't backfire too much on him. After meeting
the Village hopeful, Sabah, and having a discussion about magic with him,
Leric's interest was piqued and he started to research more on the
subject.
--Leric eventually came to the conclusion that yes, to a certain extent,
magic is a corrupting influence, certain kinds more corrupting than
others. Unlike the Villagers, however, he doesn't believe that magic
needs to be eradicated or shunned completely.
--Rather than shunning, Leric believes that studying and understanding
magic is actually the best way to handle the potential corrupting
influences in magic. It is even safe enough to use magic in certain
situations, as one would use any other tool. By casting and using magic
on a limited basis, an individual can begin to understand the whole of
it.
--A mage with a pure heart is something to be admired and to learn from.
Someone like this must have enough knowledge and understanding of magic
to prevent being corrupted from any negative influence it might have.
--Leric already knows how to use scrolls on a rudimentary level, a skill
taught by his mother. Because of his interest in the subject, and belief
that learning and understanding magic is ultimately a good thing, he may
learn more tricks involving magic over time.
Being of the Eternal Star
Added Tue Jun 19 21:05:04 2012 at level 51:
As Leric grows older he starts to find that he's more than just an
acrobat or jester. It still pleases him if his impromptu jokes or
performances makes someone happy or becomes an inspiration. However,
there is more to being a Herald than just doing a flip or joke on
command.
And so Leric thought perhaps he can be a scholar or a storyteller, the
individual who gives out information freely to act as a warning or to
uncover some hidden truth. Keeping that in mind, Leric continues to go
to the Lyceum on a regular basis, reading and rereading the many tomes
held within. Leric still has some problems remembering everything he
reads, but over time he may become a true historian or scholar.
However, Leric also has decided giving direct information or truths isn't
always the best service he can give to someone. Rather, everyone has
their own path or beliefs. These can be guided or mutated by an outside
influence, but it shouldn't be forced into something different by making
demands.
With keeping this in mind, Leric is the sort to ask odd questions, start
debates and otherwise confuse other individuals on what their path truly
means to them. Leric's goal is to make the individual think, and then
seek out the answers for themselves. In doing so, they can become more
well-rounded, stronger individuals and are more likely to understand the
lessons presented to them.
Arcane Vision
Added Thu Jun 21 19:46:29 2012 at level 51:
--While Leric has an interest in all types of magic, save for the ones
that tread too closely to the shadow, he has a primary focus in
divination. The divination school is about seeing the unseen and knowing
the unknowable, which is of great interest to a half-elf focusing in
knowing things beyond the ordinary.
--With less precaution than Leric often uses, he learned how to see the
arcane, sensing the invisible and the fluctuations of the veil with great
ease. However, it had an unintended side affect. This side affect can
be best summed up as the ability to sense auras.
--While in the presence of a magi who uses dark magicks, Leric will feel
uneasy, even becoming sick to his stomach if the power or numbers of the
magi within his vicinity passes a certain threshold. A very slight
feeling of uneasiness will accompany any dark magi, though if they aren't
a conjurer, anti-paladin or necromancer, this feeling can easily be
ignored or chalked up to a paranoia.
--This ability to sense the presence of dark magi(or magicks) can be
confused or even temporarily shut down by Leric if he wills himself to do
so. However, this effectively puts Leric in a state of confusion or
blindness, as his ability to see normally is linked to the arcane vision.
Davarrah the Ravenous
Added Thu Jun 21 19:49:56 2012 at level 51:
--Two anti-paladins visited the inn on day. Their aura was strong enough
to off-balance Leric, but not enough to completely confuse him. While
Leric was doing his best to entertain and to gently nudge the two
anti-paladins onto a better path, a lich going by the name Davarrah the
Ravenous appeared in the inn.
--Leric was the first one to notice Davarrah, and his ability to sense
auras put him in an uncooperative mood though he did his best to ignore
the aura. When she asked to have a tour of the museum, Leric's instincts
told him that her reasons could not be anything good. Leric thought she
was probably seeking a way to steal or use one of the artifacts for some
nefarious plan.
--Eventually, Davarrah left, but only after feeding on Leric, sending
Malfator to some dark unknown place and promising she'd eventually come
back. After some asking around, Leric found that the names Xaelobran,
Chabirir, Kaubris and Chyrseis were somehow related to Davarrah.
Knowing that no dark magi can leave things alone for long, Leric has
started researching these names, and anything else that may help discern
Davarrah's ultimate plan.
--NOTE: While Leric wants to figure out and stop Davarrah's plan, he's
still prone to flights of fancy as he often lives in the moment and is
easily distracted. Also, Leric can sometimes obsess over seemingly
unimportant things which can be seen in his quests for the glitterpants
and the dates.
Seeking out Lian Shian'ji
Added Mon Jun 25 12:47:21 2012 at level 51:
--In Leric's travels throughout Thera, he heard about Lian Shian'ji, an
immortal that seems to represent the ideals of the Warlocks of lore.
Based on Leric's limited knowledge, the Silver Wraith appears to
represent the ideals that Leric follows.
--Leric is fascinated by magic and all sorts of arcane knowledge, wanting
to understand its ins and outs. There are, after all, many pitfalls when
it comes to magic as the betrayal of the Third Age represents(a story
that he has read many times, if not fully understood). At the same time,
he believes that the knowledge of history should be shared to act as
reminders.
--It is quite possible that Leric has misunderstood what the religion
truly means, and even he is willing to admit that. Before seeking out
Lian, Leric searched for priests of the Silver Wraith. Eventually he
found Tanion and was quite surprised that this elf followed Lian.
--Leric prodded Tanion for information or thoughts on the faith.
Tanion's answers were superficial, giving nothing much more than "Lian is
my inspiration" and disparaging remarks about the Lyceum. After sensing
Tanion was not willing to preach or explain the details of the religion,
Leric wondered if he had misinterpreted the limited scrolls on Lian.
--Leric did not want to make an assumption, however, and wanted to
understand the religion even if he had misinterpreted the scrolls.
Finding Tanion lacking, he has decided to seek the source, hoping that he
will not be unwelcomed.
Miscellaneous updates
Added Sun Jul 8 17:14:02 2012 at level 51:
--Although Leric has been more than a little quiet about Jeya, his long
lost sister, by this point he has given this up as part of his grand
quest. He figures Jeya probably didn't want to be found by him, perhaps
to give him a chance to grow as an individual and that Jeya is happy
wherever she is.
--Leric has been presenting dark magical artifacts to Lian, sometimes by
proxy through the Skyborn's shrine. Some of these were stolen from dark
magi, some were found legitimately. Either way, in his mind this is part
of the quest to understand the Silver Wraith. Leric also believes that
stealing these dark artifacts is probably for the best, as most people
aren't wise enough to use them properly. Some things aren't meant to be
used by mortals.
--Leric continues to seek out the Shadow, not to join them, but to hamper
any grand plots they may be working on. The Shadow should stay weakened
and away from the Lyceum. On some other level, he also wants to know what
knowledge they are seeking, so he can get to it first and hide it away,
in essence protecting whatever forbidden knowledge the Shadow is trying
to abuse.
--Brindlebum has always been kind to Leric, but he is getting to be more
suspicious of the svirfnebli. Anyone who is in love with a Scion should
be watched carefully and words around them should be carefully chosen.
