Description

You are certain a female wood-elf stands before you, her skin once smooth is beautifully worn by centuries of sun and wind, its near ebony a clue to drow heritage of wood-elves. You discern scars that hint at going up against an endless barrage of ice needles and the cruel markings of what could only be centurion's blades. Her once ageless face has finally caught up with the endless hunt wielding of such endless destruction on enemies of Thar-Eris. In fact, in the pursuit of fighting for the Children of Thar-Eris, her vibrant, dark gray hair has grown unkept. Yet somehow, it transcends wonder that it still is not the graying of age or decay, but the vibrant living gray of roiling storm clouds, cold oceans, and unforgiving granite. Unyielding so long as the Harbinger who carries it draws breath. While her build is the more broader elven build typical of wood-elves, garb drapes her in a way that seems more mystic in nature. Her clothing is an odd mix of the simplest common and most powerful relics of Thera and beyond, yet you have this sinking notion it matters little compared to the instinct and divine weapons, this hunter would bring toward you if she chose. The most noticeable detail is the necklace of charms hanging about her neck. The charms of her holy necklace contain very old runes universally recognized throughout Thera such as: Night, Storms, Winter, Frost, the New Moon... and several other older, more mysterious symbolts no longer commonly used, but all Spirits of the North known only beyond the coldest lands. Yet even more magnificent is the Infinite Helix that overlays everything. There is no beginning or end to be found, reminding all of the great potential of strife and change, and the risks of unleashing such power, as the Ancients chose in releasing what was once a simple young druid on the realms of Thera.

Role

Circle of the Black Thorn (Part 1)

Among the druidic hierarchy, deep in the wilderness at the far reaches of 
the land, exists an ancient following known only as the Circle of the 
Black Thorn.

Made up exclusively of wood-elves, the Black Thorn worship the most 
destructive elements of nature and believe that within the framework of 
all that is natural, nature itself and the savage pecking order of the 
creatures that inhabit it are the sole determining factor in the 
structure and hierarchy of the natural world.

While others coddle nature, they pay homage to the cruel, indifferent, 
and unfathomed potential of nature's force and indiscriminate brutality.  
Instead of seeking to make the world "balanced" like the Nexun's, they 
find true balance through removing all civilized concepts of good and 
evil and chaos and order in their pursuit of the original purpose of 
Natures Design.

Though surely wood-elves, the Circle of the Black Thorn is whispered of 
with a mix of hatred, disdain, and fear by other wood-elves who do not 
share their beliefs.  Those of the Black Thorn return this scorn, viewing 
with disdain their more common wood-elf cousins who dance among faerie 
rings, spend their days singing songs, basking in the sun, and see the 
more common wood-elves as little different than their high-elf cousins.

Circle of the Black Thorn (Part 2)

One is as likely to see a neophyte or hierophant of the Black Thorn 
worshiping the night sky, celebrating the coming of winter's frost, or 
staring in trance along the grey ocean's shores at the cold and merciless 
killing power of typhoons and hurricanes.  Their most sacred runes often 
represent aspects of nature so often forgotten by the high-elf leaning 
wood-elves that populate the realm.  In fact, it is said that the Black 
Thorn holds the new moon on the shortest and darkest day of winter in 
highest regard.

Due to the Black Thorn's even darker skin lending itself more towards 
shades of ebony than "fair", some wood-elves in their hatred or 
incomprehension of the circles priorities go as far to whisper and curse 
that the Circle of the Black Thorn did not descend from the ancient 
high-elves, but instead dark-elves who made homes in the forest from 
their caverns long ago.

Perhaps the only thing the estranged wood-elves of the Black Thorn share 
is their hatred of those who are not of the natural world.  While the 
circle of the black thorn is as likely to favor a volcano worshiping fire 
giant as an ocean worshiping storm giant, they will put aside all such 
competition with natural competitors in the pecking order to eliminate 
those who exist outside the natural world.  In fact, while many fear the 
indiscriminate and bestial power the Black Thorn can unleash with little 
thought to concepts of morality, those who find themselves defilers, 
outworld, or twisted creatures have more to fear as the Circle of the 
Black Thorn's primal savagery comes into focus against them.  

It's said the circle believes that only in a world free of defilers, free 
of civilized concepts of morality and invented social structure, can the 
natural hierarchy of the natural beings that inhabit Thar-Eris be free to 
follow nature's course and stake out their territory and place within it.

Circle of the Black Thorn: Objectives in the Warmlands

1) Hinder and when possible destroy the efforts of Tribunal and Imperial recruitment
and training where it originates like weeds in the warmlands.  Also, as we would in the
north, oppose and destroy defilers and humanoids foreign to the natural world.

2) Begin identifying and building relations with friends and hunters of Thar-Eris.  While
specializing in solo hunts, learn to work with a pack in preparation for future hunts.

3) Bring to the mind the power of nature's tempests and winter's frost which civilization
can not hide from behind locked doors and shuttered windows. Replace the comforts of society and the city-building
focus of the masses on the power and truth of the natural world.  When weak neutral prey is identified in
the hunt, consider sparing them in your strength as a predator if they side not with imperials, spirelings, and defilers.

The Way of the Black Thorn

-Revel in nature's destruction.  Embrace its power, fury, and every force of nature in its purest form.

-Revel in the hunt.  Take only what you need, something your pack can use, or to weaken prey in an
upcoming fight against their strong enemy pack.

-Those of the Black Thorn are gifted in the hunt. There is no greater calling than when the hunt aligns
with prey who defile or weaken Thar-Eris.

-When your strength has been proven and weaker prey slain, take no pleasure in repeated slayings that
wakening... less the prey grows stronger, joins more of its pack, or brings tooth and claw against your
pack.

-Know your prey and their place within their pack.  Sometimes one must obliterate weaker and unworthy prey
to open the hunt against alpha prey.

-There are few greater gifts than the gift of the hunt. To gift others with tools of the hunt will help for
only a season's breath.  To train your pack in the techniques of the hunt will gift them for a lifetime.

-While hunting will always be part of the natural cycle, chosen of the Black Thorn must release unimaginable
fury today, so children of Thar-Eris can live and nurture the land tomorrow.

Seeds of the Aspen

She stood at the range of mountains barricading the north, looking across to the south at lands warm
by her standards.  She smiled, and with it the northern wind blew harder. The brief return home had
not only been invigorating, but with it had opened secrets reserved for only the stronger heirophants
of the Black Thorn.

She idly stroked the full pouch at her side, and unable to resist, brought forth one of the tufted catkins
that would give birth to the hardy and ancient aspen trees of her northern homeland.

Lightning forked south, a good omen.  Soon the clouds followed and the rain it brought began to fall.  She
spread her arms, palms up, and lifted her head high letting the rainwater wash down her face.

Then she began to laugh, and in it was something both joyous and knowing. She had return, and she had brought friends.

A Day of Training (Part 1)

Lilyth stepped into a clearing among the refuge. She was optimistic, even 
excited. It was training day! The huntress stood spinning her spear, 
looking bored. Behind her, Milmum waited nervously. Nearby, Milonuthial 
was having a conversation with a butterfly.

"Alright Milmum, lets begin todays lesson. When your foe is more
powerful, work with our huntress.  Against a warrior that can cut you 
down, its important to stand out of harms way, then move in and cast your 
spell. If the warrior switches to target you.. flee..then run back.. and 
cast again..wait.. Milmum, wh-why are you staring at me like that?"

Milmum's jaw hung open and he began staring back and forth repeatedly 
between himself and the huntress. Lilyth put a hand on her forhead. "You 
didnt know your opponent, or you, could switch and hit another in 
combat.. did you?.. Milmum slowly shook his head, blushing. Lilyth opened 
her mouth to say something, but just snapped it shut.

"Alright Milonuthial! This is the perfect time to coordinate your healing 
tactics! A powerful party of three imperials is overwhelming the 
huntress! You must save her life! Begin!" Milonuthial rushes forward with 
a huge smile and jumps in front of the huntress, almost knocking the 
huntress over, a normally impossible task. The elven healer begins 
reciting a litany of healing prayers over the huntress.

"No, Milly! You can be seen! The three imperials would easily strike you 
down! You should chameleon before healing" Milonuthial looks around 
confused, and suddenly crawls beneath the huntress. The huntress gives 
Lilyth a plain stare, obviously offended. 

"Umm, still seen." Lilyth picks up an acorn and pelts Milly with it. 
Yelping, the healer steps behind a stump only waste high, continuing her 
prayers. 
"Nope, still seen." Lilyth picks up another acorn and hurls it at Milly. 
Another yelp.
Suddenly Milly bends over in a ridiculous position with everything hidden 
but her backside, which is now sticking up in the air in full sight. The 
healers prayers continue uninterrupted.  Letting out a huge sigh, Lilyth 
makes a mental note to have Milly return to a diet of berries and nuts.

A Day of Training (Part 2)

"Shake it off, Lilyth", she says breathing deeply. "Alright, Milmum. The 
enemies are too many and the pain to great, its time to call your beast 
to aid you!" Slowly the invoker raises his hand with a question, but 
eyeing Lilyths acorns, drops it suddenly and bites his lip.
Lilyth sighs, "What is it Milmum?"
"Harbinger.. I dont think Im able to call beasts." Lilyth blinks twice.  
"Of course you can, 38 titles have come and gone for you."
"Nope, dont think so, guess I dont get one.  I checked my skills and I 
cant do it."
"Milmum, Im sure you have the POWER to CALL a beast. Just..just, try it"

"I have powers?!"
Was the gnome bouncing? Yep, he was bouncing.
Lilyth groaned. Without delay, Milmum draws on his power and a wolf comes 
lapping forth. Milmum backs away.  It follows.  Milmum backs away some 
more.  It follows.  Milmum screams and runs.. and of course the wolf 
follows. The refuge gives way to chaos as Milmum begins doing circles 
around the huntress with his wolf happily keeping pace behind him.

Lilyth looked to her right to find her treant shaking its massive head. "I 
know", Lilyth says with a wry smile, "We do it for the realm."

Well at least she was patient.
Just then Irwabereth walks by glaring at Lilyth.
She felt less patient.

Yep, guess Irwabereth hadnt forgiven her yet for confusing her with 
Ireswyn and throwing those thorns at the wrong wood-elf.  What was the 
big deal? Well sure, it was like three accidental thorns.. four..?

A Day of Training (Part 3)

A cry from the skies fills the air as a vulture circles the refuge, 
spiraling to the ground and seamlessly shifting into Hoysepis. Concerned, 
he wastes no time reporting. "The nightreaver, Liantae, was seen running 
across the northern planes carrying what I believe to be the fortress orb 
with a war party chasing after her."

With a curse, Lilyth jumped to her feet! 

"We cannot be distracted by a war with the fortress! What else could 
possibly go wrong this day?"

"Well", says Hoysepis calmly, "Delkin is sleeping in late again on elven 
wine and Raeth has brought out his seasonings and is chewing on his leg again."

Hmm, that one would have to wait.

It was time to take matters into her own hands. The orb would be 
returned.  War avoided. She would see to it.  She turned to go...

...And was instantly barreled over by Milmum, which meant she was also 
trampled upon by a too loyal wolf.

Well that figured.

Standing up hardly scratched, she dusted herself off, opening 
her lips in the prayer to take flight as a condor.

Or so she thought..

Suddenly an elven face popped up from behind a stump. With smiling, eager 
eyes of elvish doom, Milly screamed, "Let me help!"

These would be the last words she heard as a healing sleep washed over 
her, ending what should have been a very productive day.
