Lornis the Shape of Death's Threshold, Chancellor of Eternal Night

When we come back to the man we notice that he is feasting on the neck of a
poor woman who has been entrapped by his enticing nature.  While taking the
last bit of her blood a man clothed in dark robes comes up to him.  He
delivers a handwritten note with a shaking hand.  The man reads the note and
a thin smile creases his lips.  You get a glimpse of the note and immediately
notice the feminine penmanship of one of the Queens supplicants.  Your
glance of the note offers insight into how the Queen has decided to choose
her Chancellor. The man with death in his eyes grins as he finishes reading
the note and folds it up for storage in his saddlebag.

A few moments later the man produces a parchment and pen of his own and
begins to address a missive back to the Queen.  He ponders awhile with pen in
hand and does not write anything on the paper.  You notice a look comes into
his eye, one of determination, and the man takes pen to paper.  He quickly
writes a fairly short yet descriptive missive to the Queen concerning himself
and his thoughts on why he should be Chancellor.  He signs the missive with a
flair of his pen and quickly summons the scared messenger back.He hands the
message to the man in robes and goes back to finishing his delightful
torture.

A few weeks go by and the man hears little of his fate. He wakes from
resting one day to see that Messervy has been named Advisor, yet finds that
nobody else has taken the mantle of Chancellor. The man notices that the
Queen is seeing to her supplicants.  While traveling about the land an
insatiable voice comes into his mind and tells him that she wishes to speak
about his note. The man reverts to his normal form and kneels while smiling
to himself.

A few more days go by and we find the man kneeling in the Den of the Queen.
She looks at him with a stern look in his eye and you notice that in some
ways she is not pleased with him.  He hangs his head under her stern gaze and
listens as she commands him.  He nods acceptance to the things she is saying
and looks up to state his desires.  He promises the Queen that he will change
the things she dislikes and that he accepts the fate she has put before him.
The Queen comes close to him and nearly kisses his ear, but stops just short
while the man trembles at the thought of his desire.  With some final words
the Queen nods at him and a sense of power passes through the room from her
to him. The Chancellor of Eternal Night he has become.

Again we find that the man has risen higher and to more acclaim, making foes
and allies on his path of pain and suffering.  More and more begin to succumb
to his formidable jaws and he revels in the pain and blood of his offerings
to Lord Beroxxus.  In his searches about the lands he finds that it is time
to bring his knowledge and power to bear within the folds of the Eternal
Night.  He makes acquaintance with Ezranil and Messervy and is found often in
their company.  Though he is not truly one of the chasm he aids them in
securing the Scepter often and bringing forth the promises of the Night.  It
does not take long for Ezranil to promise him his backing for the Night and
so the man smiles his deathly smile and continues on his path.

Not much time goes by and you find the man standing in a den of sin.  He
smiles as he looks about at the pleasures and desires being fulfilled.  He is
not a man without his taste for pleasure, but he knows that even here he can
taste painful pleasure. He thinks to himself that perhaps the Queen who
rules this place will find enjoyment in his efforts.  When he nears the
Queens throne room he notices another being speaking with the magnificent
Dark Queen of Desire.  He makes himself known subtly and then patiently waits
in the hallway nearby.  The other supplicant to the Queen finishes their talk
and so the man stands and quickly arranges his clothing to look pristine
again.  He would not want to go before dark royalty rumpled.  The man enters
the Queens lair and quickly bows low in her presence, not even daring to
gaze upon her without permission.  The Queen motions to him and they begin a
long conversation speaking of desires and pleasures.  The Queen beckons him
closer and touches his head.  She bends his head near to the floor in a
painful manner, almost to the point of completely breaking the man.  He
writhes in pleasure at her painful touch and asks her to continue.  The Queen
again beckons him closer and as he gets close she puts her lips near his
face.  He closes his eyes in anticipation and she quickly slaps him full
force across the face.  He is dazed and blood trickles from his lip, but his
grin grows even wider than it was.

The Queen nods at the man and with a simple motion he is known as a member of
the Scions of Eternal Night!

The man has grown quickly and achieved new heights within the guild of his
choosing.  Many would point to the signs of the eve of his growth as the
blessings of the gods themselves upon him.  It would seem that The Lord of
Suffering may even have taken notice already, but who can be sure of this
without direct contact. The man seems pleased as he enters the guild before
a long awaited rest.  He transforms quickly into the shape of an alligator
and then into that of a crocodile.  Rows of gleaming teeth appear sharp and
ready to bite.  As he reverts back to his human form you notice that his eyes
are at least somewhat amused at the possibilities of what this could bring.

You notice that the man confers with his guildmaster for a long time as they
look upon a scroll of additional teaching.  Again amusement can be quickly
seen in the eyes of the man before they go back to his normal stare.  He
points to an item and whispers to the guildmaster.  The guildmaster takes him
aside and shows him a few motions that he can make with his head while in
form.  These motions clearly give him the chance to cause bleeding, something
that the man clearly desires.  The blood of his enemies shall play upon his
senses and he is amused by it.  He nods once at the guildmaster and takes to
rest.

The man has grown more and has continued to learn more and more forms, but he
does not seem appeased. The flesh and blood of men and animals is still
appetizing, but he wishes for more.  He finds a strange sensation of pleasure
when his victims scream out and so he begins to learn to apply his craft to
more than just feeding. He learns to use the mandibles of some of his forms
to tear at the flesh of his victims while they still live.  He uses the teeth
and claws of his lynx to coax screams and pleas out of his victims.  He
continues to work at this trying to find a way to not only cause these vile
acts, but to find victims who want the torture, like his mother used to.

As the man continues to grow he hears of a group of people who are seeking to
make the world live in darkness forever.  He hears whispers of activities and
amazing beasts that come from the shadows.  He is intrigued by the
possibilities of not only bringing pain to people, but to creatures from
other realms as well.  He begins to imagine what wonderful things he might be
able to do should he find such power to open rifts and portals to other lands
and planes.  He finds that he wants more, and so he goes seeking to find it.
Listening to the whispers in dark places and torturing folks of the village
and fortress for information.  He wants more, and he will not stop until he
has it.

Years have gone by since the last time the teenager, who is now a man, has
had contact with the devout of the castle.  Fearing the worst for the
handsome man a number of their devout make their way to Hamsah to look for
him.  While walking the street they come upon the man who must be the boy
they sent so long ago.  The man sees the devout and smirks at them.  They
notice his smirk and approach him with caution. The man tells him he has
left their way and does not wish to be among them.  The devout become
agitated and try to grab him.  The man moves with incredible speed and shifts
his form completely into that of a lynx.  The devout are shocked and in that
moment the lynx strikes at them.  With biting and furious swipes the lynx
quickly dispatches the other men, feeding on their corpses.  When the last of the
devout is within inches of his eternal death, the lynx transforms back into
the shape of the man.  He tells the remaining devout that if he wishes to
exist he will leave and say that the guards were onto the teen and that he
was killed long ago.  That they were set upon by the guards and he was the
only one who could make it out. The last of the devout hobbles out of
Hamsah, hoping to never meet the man again.

Upon his arrival back the castle the leaders ask the last of the devout that
was sent what happened. He relays to them the story that was given to him
and they are clearly taken aback.  They decide that perhaps now is the time
to wait and only let their recruiter work in Arkham until the time when
memories begin to fade again.  It is with these things that the castle again
becomes less active and their efforts become localized again.

One day, while making his way along the street he bumps into a man with
beautiful dark robes on.  Symbols of the arcane arts can be found on the
cuffs of his robe and a pin adorns his collar.  The man notices the hunger in
his eyes and so takes him to his guild to feed him.  The man notices after
eating food that the hunger is not completely gone and asks the teen what he
wants.  In his hungry state the young man tells the guildmaster that he
desires blood.  The guildmaster is not surprised however and offers to teach
the boy something.  He utters a phrase and quickly snake like fangs come from
his mouth.  He grabs a bird that is on the sill of the window with incredible
speed and sinks his fangs into it.  The teenager is amazed and asks if he can
learn this ability.  The guildmaster looks at him and tells him he can teach
him so much more.  The teenager is ecstatic and takes quickly to the teaching
of the guildmaster.  It is not long before the boy begins to learn how to
shape his entire body, and he begins to satiate his hunger for flesh and
blood by attacking things outside of the city.

Years have gone by and the baby is now a young boy of about eight.  He is
extremely gorgeous for a child and his smile is almost seductive to anyone
who sees it.  He is often sent out with the man in Arkham just to smile at
folks and get them to speak to the recruiter.  The number of people who leave
Arkham to see the castle grows and the number of families left without their
members does as well.  The boy is pampered and very well taken care of. It
is his curious charm, after all, that has made the castle buzz with more
activity than it has seen in many years.

The young boy does not spend all of his days in Arkham however, but instead
also spends time with the others who are learning to be recruiters like the
man in Arkham.

After a few years the boy is now a teenager and the hunger of the people who
live in the castle has grown.  They decide that the teen is now ready to make
his way out in the world and decide to expand their reach to the city of
Hamsah. They believe his charm will keep him out of the watchful eye of the
Sultans guard. The teen quickly takes to his new role and eagerly
encourages folks to visit Arkham and meet with his friend there.  He speaks
of the beautiful castle and all that can be learned there.  He takes to
attracting young women and pleasuring them for his own gain.  He often will
bite and feed on them a little bit at a time, but not to the point where even
they would notice in the throws of passion.  He is honing his skill.  It is
around this time that his hunger for the flesh of men grows and he is having
a hard time focusing on his task.

Seven months have gone by and the thin young womans belly has grown quite
large.  It seems that all the food she has eaten has done little to help her
health, but the baby that is growing inside her must be quite large.  One
evening while sitting on her bed and contemplating where her life has gone, a
torturous pain racks her body.  Her belly shifts and she feels that what is
inside of her wishes to come out.  As the woman screams in the beginning
stages of labor a few of the men come in to assist in the birth of the child.
It does not take long for the baby to be born as it seems it has a strong
desire to be out of the woman who carried it.  The men quickly do what must
be done and wrap the baby in a dark cloth.  They hand the child to its mother
who smiles for the first time in a long time as she sees her son, her
strikingly beautiful son.  The woman is instructed to feed him and so she
does, but she notices something peculiar as he begins to feed from her
breast. She can feel two small teeth butting up against her skin.  The baby
boy feeds on what she is able to give, and when he can get no more bites down
on her skin.  The woman cries out and tries to push him away, but the men in
the room hold her down to see what will happen. They smile as it seems
evident that this boy will drink blood as well as human food.  As the three
men look up from the scene they smile at one another, some dark plan
formulating in their minds.

The young lady has begun to look very different than she did when we first
saw her.  Her body has bruises in many places and she is dressed in thin,
almost sheer, clothing. She is no longer shackled to the bed in her cell,
but instead waits to willingly be embraced in the ecstasy of the torturous
feedings.  Months of these activities go by and her perspective doesnt
change, though she does appear to be even thinner than when she arrived.

Two months go by and though her legs and arms appear thing her belly is
beginning to show signs of growth.  One of the devout men with the peculiar
teeth makes his way in the room.  The young lady gets a hungry look in her
eyes as she spies the man, but he does not come at her to feed, but instead
puts his ear to her belly.  He cringes as he hears something he did not wish
to hear and pulls away from her.  The woman is angry and cries out at the
man, wanting the pleasure of her torture.  He turns from her in disgust and
tells her to eat some of the food that was left for her.  She does so,
practically unwillingly.  It seems that something else is driving her to eat
food and she doesnt understand exactly what it is.

In another room of the castle the man who checked on her confers with someone
who must be a leader of the people here.  He tells the man to keep her alive,
but to no longer feed on her.  He tells the man that he wants to see what
comes of this pregnancy.  Months go by.

Thunder peels as lightning strikes the forest just beyond Arkham.  Rain is
coming down hard against the windows of the Inn.  The young woman is getting
herself ready for her day trip to the castle today and not even the storm
outside can sway her mood.  She makes her way down the stairs whistling a
merry tune and orders a light breakfast.  Once she has completed her
breakfast she dons her light hooded cape and heads north out of the city.
The woman continues to smile as she reaches the crossroads and remembers that
she needs to head west from there.  Her smile begins to fade a little as she
makes her way down the dark forest road and comes to a place brightly lit.
It is evident that someone usually stands here but it would seem the storm
has forced even the sentries to abandon their post.  As the woman reaches the
edge of the moat she yells out the words that the nice man in Arkham told her
to yell.  Immediately she begins to hear a clicking coming from the entry of
the castle and the drawbridge begins to come down.  The water roils beneath
the moat as some creatures bump against the surface of the water.  As the
drawbridge comes to rest she smiles as she makes her way across it.

The young woman is quickly greeted by another good looking individual, but
this one has some peculiar teeth interrupting his smile.  Her heart flutters
though as she takes in the stature of this beautiful man and follows him
deeper within the castle.  There are many figures in dark clothing that seem
to want to reach out for her, but quickly put their hands back in place.  The
man leads her down a darkened hallway to a place that he says they have
prepared for her.  He opens the door and she begins to walk past him inside.
The woman notices shackles and the smile on her face quickly fades.  As she
begins to turn a burning sensation is felt on the side of her throat as the
man sinks his teeth into her.  The biting makes her cry out in ecstasy as
passion envelops the act.  The biting takes on a new level as the man begins
to move his hands over the womans body.  The young lady is too far gone to
know the danger, and instead embraces the pain and pleasure that is part of
this heinous act.  When the man has his fill and his hungers are satiated he
shackles her limp body to the bed and turns from the room, invigorated.

Morning dawns with rays of brilliant sunlight streaming across the bow of a
large ship as it pulls into the wharf of Arkham.  Sailors stand ready at the
rails to throw their lines to the dockworkers to secure the ship.  The lines
are thrown and the dockworkers quickly tie off the mooring lines to the
docks.  The gangplank is put down from the ship and the passengers and
tourists fresh from Hamsah make their way off of the ship.  Among the crowd
is a beautiful young woman with big wide eyes.  The young lady seems to be
new to this city and is in awe of its people and buildings.  Her eyes are
huge with delight as she looks about the city.  As she makes her way into the
city proper she is reminded that at night a terrible curse lies upon the
city.  The young lady assures the guard that she will be sure to be in her
room by that time.  What the guard didnt say is that darkness lurks on the
city streets all of the time.

As the young lady makes her way down the street she notices a charming man
speaking with people as they pass.  Most people just hear what he says and
keep moving, having no interest in what he is trying to tell them.  The
attractive man notices the young woman and smiles at her with delight.  The
woman is immediately interested in what this man has to say.  He talks to her
about the light and knowing the path to tree freedom and everlasting life.
The young lady, not knowing any better, engages the man in conversation and
asks him what she must do.  He speaks with her for a little while and tells
her of a beautiful castle that is just north of the city.  The man informs
her that all she needs to do is yell out that he has sent her to learn about
everlasting life.  The young lady smiles and thanks the man for his kindness,
assuring him that she will make her way there at first light.  As she walks
away an evil grin spreads across the mans face and he rubs his hands
together.
