Description

The color and garb of this short, rugged soldier's hair, skin and eyes identify him as one of the people of the desert. He is thin for a human, with narrow but strong shoulders and wiry yet powerful arms. A sunburst tattoo in black ink mark his cheek, stark contrast to his otherwise serious and unostentatious demeanor. His hair is neatly cropped and trimmed and he carries a thin but well groomed beard and mustache. If you had to judge his profession, the arms and armaments would seem to indicate a professional soldier or warrior of some kind.

Sharp, stabbing pain ripped through Lusciat's jaw and neck, forcing him to
grimace slightly. His eyes began to water unintentionally as he bore the
trauma with as cool a demeanor as he could put forth. Each prick of the
sharpened bone knife, with it's coating of blackened coal and squid ink,
penetrated Lusciat's body and soul simultaneously. While the pain was great
so too was his pride. First of seven children he was to be branded the
favorite of his father, a mark of pride and esteem, that he would go forth
into the world to bring respect to the name of his family.

At sixteen years of age, Lusciat had hoped and prepared himself for this day.
now the other children gathered goats, figs and the finest cheeses they
could afford to prepare for the feast that would come in the evening. But
for now, he knew he could not cry out or move and so he stilled his muscles
with a sheer force of will. In his mind he uttered prayers to the gods, to
the ancient warrior spirits whom had been patron to his family for two
hundred years and whom had seen many generation of Al'asad men grow to be
strong soldiers and guards to the Sultan. Solace he found in the words, in
this dark unfamiliar place.

Per custom he had been taken to the Great Temple. Built thousands of years
ago it was a monument to the Gods and to the religiousness of his people, the
people of Hamsah Mu'tazz. And the Gods were thankful, they blessed the tides
that carry wealth to and from the city, they blessed the walls that keep
bandits and vagrants excluded from the fruit of the city and they blessed the
great Palace of the Sultan with a thousand years of peace and prosperity.

The temple ancient as it was had many secret rooms, this being one that
Lusciat was unfamiliar with. It was unlit, save for a small slit in the
stone to let the sun's natural light through. He was sat in front of this
window that the sun might shine its warmth upon his face and illuminate it to
the priest. So too, Lusciat believed, was his eyes to squint in the direct
wrath of the Sun, that should he hold any doubt or fear they be cast out
under it's withering gaze.

Whispering silent incantations the priest finished the deed, bowing
deliberately and finally exclaiming something loudly in an ancient tongue
that Lusciat was not familiar with. He relaxed, allowing himself just a
moment of smile to sate the welling within his heart. His father was there,
dressed in his best ceremonial fineries given to him as a member of the royal
guard. He dared not gaze directly at his father's face but he imagined it
beamed with pride in his oldest boy.

His father stepped forward, it was the time to tell Lusciat how he would go
forth into the world and how he would honor his family. He spoke with
authority, the authority of a man who knew he had provided well for those he
loves and the authority of a man who commands undeniable respect of those
around him.

"My son. Still your mind, calm your thoughts and prepare yourself to receive
my demands. Are you ready to hear your father's decree, for how you should
live your life as heir to my name?"

"Yes, Sire", Lusciat declared without emotion or hesitation. He imagined
this response would please his father well.

"Good. I declare then that you are to leave this city. You will train to be
a soldier and some day, a lieutenant and general. You will serve the Emperor
and bring the name of Al'asad within the walls of the Imperial Palace. You
will kill those who bring disorder to the world outside of these walls. You
will subjugate those who refuse to receive our civilization. So it has been
seen and so it shall be done."

"Yes, Sire".

The request was unexpected but not unwelcome. He did not have the desire or
perhaps even the ability to contemplate if he wished to do this or wished to
do anything else. The decree was given, his path was set and so he accepted
it, as was the way of his people.

Customs

Added Sun Dec 8 13:12:48 2013 at level 10:
Weeks had passed from the ceremony and Lusciat had spent every day, even
riddled with fever from the infection his tattoo drew, training himself. The
hottest part of the year had come and the toll of the training was great.
Most dwellers of the desert city reside indoors during the Month of the Sun
but Lusciat had been given his decree and honored it with every inch of his
soul. His skin blistered when uncovered under the fierce heat and Lusciat
took it as a blessing that the ancient Gods were preparing him for his
journey ahead.

He had just finished his morning prayers and was washing himself in
preparation for sparring with his brother Samuel when Samuel burst into his
bedchamber with an indignant look on his face.

"Brother! Brother you must come!"

Lusciat dried himself quickly, the basin nearly tipping in his hurry.

"What? What has happened?"

"Hassan, that filthy louse! That villain! Delilah has seen him take one of
our goblets back to his room!"

Delilah was their youngest sister, only five years of age she had a bright
personality for a woman and Lusciat often worried for her. Hassan was a
servant boy, son to Osam who was an elderly servant that had lived within
their household for nearly forty five years. Only eight years old, Hassan
was otherwise a quiet child, serving well he almost never looked upon
Lusciat's sisters or otherwise was out of place.

Curiousity was replaced in Lusciat's face with the burden of knowledge. His
featured hardened and his fists clenched. Few things ired Lusciat like
thievery, it was a vile practice by which the dishonorable tried to feast of
the fruits of their superiors. He stood and gathered his practice blade, a
simple steel khopesh his father had gifted to him a year ago, already
starting to blunt from blows to the wooden training dummies their father had
purchased for their garden.

As Lusciat walked to the main house in the courtyard the other servants had
already gathered up Hassan. His father stood nearby, his eyes cast
shamefully to the ground. He was surrounded by younger servants and though
Lusciat did not believe the man would rebel, he was glad and proud to have
their assistance. Delilah looked on with gleaming happy eyes shining forth
from beneath her burqa, she knew better than to speak in front of all these
men. Instead she merely held the stolen goblet in her hands and she made
sure Lusciat saw it as he walked forward.

Lusciat never looked at the boy, he immediately addressed the father as he
gripped his khopesh handle tightly.

"You have dishonored our walls Osam. You have raised a thief! My father has
shown you compassion to have you here for so long and you dishonor him by
bringing forth this wretched Godless child."

Never raising his head, Osam fell to the stone and began to weep silently and
said quietly, "I am sorry Lord!"

Hassan was wild with fear, he began to thrash and the servant men restrained
him and covered his mouth to quell his screams.Lusciat never blinked, he
approached the boy as the servants dragged him towards a stone fountain that
sat in the center of the courtyard. He nodded at Samuel, who stood by his
side and obediently grabbed the boy's arm and placed it on the stone. Osam
sobbed violently from a few paces away. And with one quick and decisive
movement, Lusciat severed the boy's hand clean from his arm. He died from
the resulting infection.

Beaming with pride at fulfilling his obligations and protecting his family
from the wrath of the Gods, Lusciat went to the kitchen to gather food for
the day's training.

Overview

Added Sun Dec 8 13:15:05 2013 at level 10:
Below is some key information pertaining to Lusciat Al'asad:

Background -
_ Lusciat's father is a royal guard to the Sultan. Such a position has
paid him well and while his family is not of the merchant caste, it is highly
regarded and respected within Hamsah Mu'tazz.
_ Lusciat is the oldest of seven, having two sisters and four brothers.
Samuel, fifteen when Lusciat left, has been left in charge of the estate in
his leave.
_ Lusciat's father has decreed that Lusciat will bring their name to the
Imperial Palace and serve the Emperor. This obligation is unquestionable to
Lusciat. He has been trained physically within the academy as a warrior and
his family is from a long line of soldiers.

Morality -
_ Lusciat does not believe himself to be a wicked man. He is raised in a
society where violence is accepted as a normal part of life and he is
ordained (by the gods, in his mind), to bring forth violence to the world in
the name of his patrons.
_ He is not cruel by intention but his beliefs are one where disrespect is
enough to kill someone. Not doing as they are told is enough to kill
someone. Looking at a woman who is not related to them or married to them,
is enough to kill someone.
_ He has respect for paladins but views their dislike of him as a breach of
order. He believes his place is righteous and therefore, for them to view
him as wicked, must not be righteous.
_ He absolutely detests thieves and will not travel with them unless forced
to by orders.
_ He believes in the might of the Empire and believes it's cause to be
righteous, to quell disorder in the world and bring about peace.

Religion -
_ Lusciat is from a highly religious background. He respects all of the
Gods and especially reveres the gods of Order and civilization. He seeks for
the blessing of Destuvius to walk forward in his path to the Empire.
_ Lusciat does not have a vile or insulting tongue. He regards his enemies
as lower than himself. He is stern and might be seen as condescending but
his personal code prevents him from appearing crass.

Demeanor -
_ Lusciat is a very quiet and solemn man. He is serious in nature. He
does not joke. He rarely laughs or smiles. Every action he performs is a
methodical force of willpower and ceremony.

Goals -
_ Lusciat is not very ambitious beyond that he seeks to honor his father
and his family.HeHe believes in providing for the Empire by gathering gold,
he believes in following orders. If he is recognized for that he will accept
that recognition with pride, but inherently he serves those above him and he
is not rebellious or deceitful.
