Something Is Wrong

Magner opened his eyes and winced with an audible groan. Had he really drank that much last night? He
laid there trying to remember the night before through the roar of a terrible headache but found he
couldnt. He must have drunk much more than he thought. He didnt even remember going to bed.
Glancing around through red-eyed slits he saw that he was in his chambers. That was good, at least. He
had made it home somehow. Slowly, he began to roll over to rise but his headache doubled in intensity
and his body ached in protest causing him to flop back to his back. Why did his body hurt so much? He
found a moments reprieve from his headache as concern washed over him. Slowly he glanced down
while at the same time running his hands down the length of his body. Panic raced through him.
Something was definitely very, very wrong.
Previous Day Part 1

Afternoon of the Previous Day:
Magner grunted with disgust as he stood before the throne of the King of AranGird and eyed the drow
sorceress and emissary from Teth Azeleth who stood aside of him with open scorn. Ill be goin on this
mission and doin it right, dont ye doubt. But, I ain fer takin me orders from this skinny drow wench! Er
any wench fer that matter! Me sword blade is good enough to do the job an she can tag along at me
pleasure! Magner declared stubbornly to his King.
Your sword is clearly an exaggeration of your manhood. And just like your manhood it is ill-equipped to
do the job it was intended for! The drow sorceress snapped back at Magner coldly.
BAH! Me manhood is moren you can handle lassy! An as fer the job at hand I ain even needin me
sword. I kin do it with me knives! boasted Magner as he produced a wicked looking dagger from a
sheath at his hip which was accompanied by a shout of agreement from some of the warriors standing
beside him. The banter between the duergar and drow had been going back and forth for some time
now and both wore their anger and hostility open on their face for the other to see.
ENOUGH!!! roared the king of AranGird as he stared promises of very unpleasant things at Magner,
Yell be doin what yer King says, boy!! Er Ill be lengthenin yer arse crack with me axe!!

With a scowl, Magner nodded his deference to his King and stormed out of the throne room. He was
furious at having to take orders from a woman a drow woman at that. The drow backwards society
placed woman ahead of men. Something Magner could hardly comprehend in his discriminatory way of
thinking. He was Magner McGee, a very proud young warrior in AranGird. His father was a great warrior
within the clan and he, though young, was on a path to follow in his fathers footsteps. The current clan
leader was at present heirless and it was whispered that the mantle of clan leadership would pass to
Magners family were the leader to die without an heir.
It was because of his rising status that he had been chosen to lead the AranGird contingent on a joint
venture between the duergar city and the drow city. It was a fairly important expedition into the wilds
of the underdark to explore a recently discovered potential mine site that was said to be full of
adamantite and mithril ore veins. Since it was the drow who originally discovered the site, they had
insisted on leading it. In fact, the only reason they involved the duergar, rather than just selling them the
mithril ore, was because of their mining expertise. Trade had been good recently between the two
cities, and this discovery stood to be very beneficial to both cities and stood to strengthen the tenuous
relationship between the underdarks two greatest powers.

Later That Night:
The ale hall of AranGird was crowded this night and Magner sat with some of his clan warriors at a table
several mugs deep into the ale. He was still stewing about having to take orders from that drow bitch
and that anger only made him thirstier. He tipped his head back to drain the last swallow of his mug and
as he brought the mug back down ready to call for a refill he noticed the drow sorceress and a group of
her companions walking into the ale hall.
Hey elf! Why dont ye come over an sit on me lap so I kin show ye wrong about me manhood! Manger
taunted. To his surprise the drow sorceress turned to him and smiled seductively and began to saunter
her way over.
Why Magner, perhaps I shall let you do that. After all, if we are going to be traveling companions we
ought to put all this animosity aside and get to know each other better the sorceress cooed into
Magners ear as she sat down at the table beside him. Magner stared at her through ale-soaked eyes,
mouth slightly agape in disbelief and then not wanting to look like a dolt he grinned broadly and took a
long, gratifying swig of his newly refilled ale mug. It must be his lucky day. He knew shed back down,
the dumb witch. Hed have her and make her subservient to him and when they were out in the wilds it
would actually be him giving the orders.

The Next Day:
Magner stared down at himself, panic causing his heart to race and the blood to thunder in his ears. His
headache was forgotten as he couldnt believe what he was seeing. He had grown breasts! Feeling sick
to his stomach he began to reach his hand down between his legs, nervous to what he might find. He
gave a started cry in a voice that sounded strangely foreign to him as it was a pitch bit higher than the
gruff, baritone voice he was used to speaking with. He expected his hands to find his manhood and
instead he found -nothing! Well not nothing, he realized frightfully as he reached underneath his pants.
His manhood was gone and replaced with womans genitalia!! He had become a she!!
The coming weeks were simply awful for Magner. Quite embarrassed at having been turned into a
woman he, or she now, had refused to leave her chambers for several days hoping that whatever
caused this would soon wear off, which caused her to miss the expedition bringing shame onto her
name. What had happened? Memories from his last night as a male had been returning to him bit by bit.
He recalled the drow coming to his table with her sudden, now suspicious, change of attitude, and he
recalled being already quite drunk at that point. He remembered thinking to bed and dominate the
drow and her accompanying him back to his chambers but did not recall that actually happening. It
suddenly became quite clear to Magner that the drow trickster witch had used magic to curse him into
being a woman as a cruel way to torture him for all his boastfulness and male chauvinism.
The Next Day Part 2
Added Wed Oct 15 09:22:19 2014 at level 18:
After realizing the malady would not wear off Magner finally did emerge from her chambers only to
have her embarrassment and shame heightened when the other duergar saw what had befallen her and
began their merciless teasing. Desperately, Magner sought out every mage she could find, including
those among the drow, hoping to find someone to reverse the magic. Unfortunately for her, none could.
They all told her the same thing: the magic was too powerful to be reversed. Not only was the spell used
very powerful itself, it was cast at a time when the veil was incredibly thin lending further strength to
the magic.
Despair filled Magner when no mage could reverse what had been done to her. She had been turned
into something she had always felt completely beneath her and it shamed her greatly. She seriously
began considering taking her own life. As she considered her own suicide her despair mixed with hatred.
Hatred for what had been done to her. Hatred for the drow who had done it and most of all hatred for
the magic that allowed it to happen. Nearing the edge of actually going through with the deed she
pulled back. She was far too proud a person to take the cowards way out. Her pride in herself simply
would not let her do it. She would find a way to overcome this. She would overcome this obstacle and
be all the greater for it. Remembering that the Veil had a lot to do with the permanence of her current
state an idea occurred to her. What if she began to destroy magic? Could she then destroy the magic
that afflicted her? What if she made the Veil so thick it choked the magic right off of her? She could
become one of those Battleragers she occasionally heard of in Arangird and battle magic that way. Yes,
that is what she would do and in a final act of defiance towards the drow and all that had happened to
her she would do it with knives, not swords.
Being Female
Added Tue Nov 4 10:34:08 2014 at level 35:
Drow are not known for acting with the motivation of teaching someone a life lesson. Rather, they act
out of malice and cruelty, caring only for their victims suffering and discomfort. While the latter is
certainly true in the case of Magner, the former also may have unintentionally occurred.
It is no great secret that Magner agonized over his new gender for a long time after the transformation
took place. He was depressed and filled with utter hate for himself and for others over the whole ordeal.
It wasnt until his admittance to the Battlerager Village that the feeling of despair began to loosen its
grip. Make no mistake, he still has abhors his current form and the magic that brought this curse on him,
however, time and certain experiences have made this existence more bearable and have dampened his
chauvinistic disposition.
He was privately grateful when he was first brought into the Village that Crraya had been more
concerned with his actions and how well he impressed the other Villagers than she had been with his
personal history. He imagined how difficult it would have been to explain to a renowned female
berserker like Crraya how he had looked down at women as inferior and was in his current predicament
because of that. Certainly, she might have taken him for an idiot or a fool and perhaps he had been,
once.
As Magner grew stronger in his female body, he quickly learned that he could still be a force to be
reckoned with in combat, just as Crraya. He, for at the core of his heart is still a he, still fought at a level
he thought possible when he had been possessed of a male body, possibly even exceeding it with the
more rigorous training practices demanded of a Battlerager. Yet, despite his tenuous acclimation, he still
yearned for a return to his old form, as existence as a female in many ways was still foreign and
uncomfortable to him. For instance, some had taken to calling him Maggie, as would be a natural
nickname for a true woman, while other surface duergar had made lewd comments and cat calls to him
in passing. Strings of muttered curses could often be heard from behind some bushes as Magner still
cannot get used to having to crouch to urinate and the many other inconveniences specific to the
female gender.
If ever he were to find a way to loosen the magical curse upon him he would regard women in general
with the same outlook as he did men, which was to make judgments more on a case by case basis. The
drow, however, he was unsure he could ever trust that conniving race again.
Rites
Added Fri Nov 21 15:28:08 2014 at level 40:
The sound of war drums thrummed constantly and with purpose and for those paying attention had
recently picked up with intensity as Magner stood alongside of Crraya and Aoirse in front of the Bawdy
Old Biddy, Ysaloerye and the Cunning Blade, Verathi, Warlords of the Battlerager Village. For this was
the conclusion of the Rite of War.
Ysaloerye looked at Aoirse and said, so yer shall lead tha village wid tha old moggy as yer drillmaster.
The sting of disappointment slapped Magner in the face upon hearing those words. She had failed to
become Commander and it wounded her pride. It took a few moments, but, she managed to muster
herself enough to shove aside the acidic emotion and do her best to congratulate Aoirse, for she still
held respect for the giant and did not want to insult him in his victory, especially now that he was
Commander.
Besides, she tried to remind herself. Any failure rested squarely on her shoulders. It could be reasoned
that it would have been a tall order for one as young as Magner to defeat a hero like Aoirse in the Rites,
but, she still believed in her heart it was possible. How could she not? She was full of pride and
confidence in herself. But, her mistakes within the Rites had cost her. Not only that, Aoirse was
deserving of the position. He had been in the Village far longer than Magner had. In fact, he had been a
hero when she was inducted and had backed her with his recommendation. His service record was
simply not something that could be overlooked. Because she was still young she truthfully knew very
little of his combat prowess, however, he demonstrated he was dangerous within the Rites and she
assumed that he must do the same in the field.
Her first mistake within the Rites was not knowing her enemy. During her first single combat match
against Aoirse she realized only too late that he was a warrior trained in the ways of Riddle of Resilience
and that her tactic of trying to make him drop his polearm through loss of strength was improbable.
Her second mistake came in the second round of the Rites during group combat. She had been teamed
with Aoirse to fight Crraya and she allowed Aoirse to dictate the strategy, despite knowing it had
shortcomings. She had thought to let the giant stumble on his own two feet in regards to these tactics
but it did not seem to work out this way as she ultimately took credit for the failure. A leader needs to
be vocal, and she failed at this here.
Rites II
Added Fri Nov 21 15:30:02 2014 at level 40:
Her last mistake came during the test of wits. Verathi posed a question of strategy to herself, Aoirse and
Crraya and asked Magner to answer first. Magner only gave an answer of general strategy, which was
sound, but, when Aoirse answered he used the same strategy but elaborated on the details quite a bit
more making him seem the more adept strategist.
Magner felt that she showed good adaptation within the rites to correct the first two mistakes. After all,
often times War required one to test their enemy to find a weakness. As for the third mistake, well, she
feels she understands strategy as well as anyone and would simply just have to prove in the field her
command of battle tactics.
As the pang of disappointment worked its course through Magner a new emotion began to take hold. A
motivation to serve the Village the best she could within her place. She was still young and had many
years and battles left to live. And perhaps, if she performed well enough she might make the Warlords
wonder if they had actually made the right choice for Commander. Now wouldnt that be satisfying?
Besides, there were many good things to come from all of this. She got to experience the time honored
tradition of the Rites of War, and had at least impressed enough to be granted the gift of striking harder
when the Veil was thick. And most important of all, Ysaloerye seemed to suggest that Magner would
succeed Crraya as Drillmaster. While Crraya had been an important mentor to her and she did not wish
to see her die, she knew she was in the twilight of her life and it was comforting to know she might take
over for her.
So in retrospect for Magner, perhaps losing the Rites was not such an awful thing. Perhaps it made her a
better Villager for it.
Dead Drow in Aran'Gird
Added Thu Dec 4 09:47:41 2014 at level 48:
The jail cell was small and cramped, the walls spattered with blood. At the feet of a very satisfied
Magner lay the corpse of Bezrah, drow priestess and emissary to AranGird. In Magners hands was a
note she found on the treacherous drows corpse proving that she was no mere emissary but there with
alternate goals.
The true goals of the drow and how they pertained to AranGird actually didnt matter to Magner
anymore. The note only served to reinforce her dislike for the deceitful drow. Her purpose of being
there was to see that the drow in her home city were dead, no matter what their true allegiances or
purposes were. She was there on a quest from Verathi, to prove her worth as part of his Enclave.
The battle plan was simple for Magner. It was divide and conquer. Magner was no match for Bezrah and
her two skilled drow swordsman at the same time. Since she knew the layout of the castle very well, she
decided to incite the drow and lure them into the dungeons where she proceeded to shove them one by
one into jail cells and lock the door. She then returned and dispatched with each one by one, starting
with the swordman and ending with the priestess.
The plan worked perfectly and as she stood over the body of priestess she smiled with pride at her work
and left the castle to return to Verathi with the tale of her cunning victory over the drow.
Time Passes
Added Wed Jan 14 11:25:33 2015 at level 51:
Gray hairs. Not many, but, a few have found their way into Magners beard and hair. She is aging, and
she is aware. It doesnt bother her so much as she is far from being an old decrepit woman, but, the
hairs serve as a reminder of the passage of time and all that has happened to her in her life.
So much has happened, in fact, that shes lived far more years as a woman than she had as a man. The
passage of time and her lessons from Verathi have helped her adapt to her life as a woman. Truth be
told, shes become quite comfortable in her skin, especially where being a warrior in concerned, and she
wonders if she could even go back to being a man. It was so long ago, it is nearly dreamlike. If it were
her place to finish her life as a woman, she wouldnt have a problem with that, despite that being part of
the reason for her joining the Village. Her being a woman, is like her hatred for magic. Shes lived far too
long doing it that she cant imagine life being any different. She certainly couldnt give up her hatred.
Could she her gender, again?
Magner has been the Drillmistress of the Village for many years now and since that time has also
become the First Blade of Verathis Enclave, an honor shes extremely proud of. Verathi challenged her
with a great many things over the course of time and shes learned much from him, lessons in all parts
of her life from controlling her pride, getting past her gender embarrassment and improving her
leadership. Even knowing her younger years are behind her she knows there is still more to do and more
to prove.
