Role
Background - He is Born
Added Wed Feb 4 08:28:54 2026 at level 9:
Malthis was not born into the world so much as delivered into it at great
cost. His mother, a high elf whose name he never learned, had been held
captive for years by a human man who kept her hidden and denied her any
freedom. She escaped while pregnant, injured and exhausted, and died
during childbirth shortly after reaching safety. The circumstances of her
captivity were never spoken of directly, but Malthis understood early
that his life was the result of violence, not love.
He was raised in a human orphanage, where his elven blood marked him as
different without casting him out. He learned quickly how to present
himself in ways that softened others. Politeness brought fewer questions.
Kindness earned leniency. Listening was safer than speaking. Over time,
these habits became natural, and Malthis grew into someone who was
well-mannered, calm, and easy to trust. He learned how people wanted to
be seen, and how rarely they examined themselves closely.
As he matured, Malthis began to pay attention to the world beyond the
orphanage. He noticed patterns others ignored. In places plagued by
violence or constant hardship, people clung to survival and little else.
Desire shrank. Indulgence disappeared. It was only within stable
cities-protected by walls, laws, and routine that people truly gave
themselves over to excess. Where safety existed, so did appetite. Where
order was enforced, people found the freedom to sin without fear of
annihilation.
Through rumor and half-remembered whispers, Malthis learned of Morius and
the Church of Virtuous Vices. He sought out what teachings he could,
studying them carefully and reflecting on their meaning. The idea that
indulgence was not corruption but truth appealed to him. So too did the
rejection of restraint as moral virtue rather than practical necessity.
Malthis came to believe that cities must be preserved, not for justice or
goodness, but because civilization creates fertile ground for desire. A
city allowed to fall becomes scarcity and fear, and fear leaves little
room for indulgence. Law, properly enforced, creates continuity.
Continuity creates comfort. Comfort invites want.
Malthis believes that by protecting the cities, he protects the
conditions under which vice can flourish naturally, chosen freely rather
than forced. Order is not the enemy of sin. It is its foundation.
On Vanity
Added Wed Feb 4 14:27:28 2026 at level 10:
Malthis does not see Vanity as a weakness, nor as a shallow hunger for
praise. To him, it is simply recognition of truth. He does not believe
himself better than others out of arrogance or delusion. He knows it.
Where others are ruled by impulse, fear, or conscience, Malthis exercises
control. Where others act openly and suffer for it, he understands the
value of restraint and presentation. This certainty forms the core of his
faith and his sense of self.
He is keenly aware of how he is perceived. His manner is calm, his words
measured, his presence reassuring. He allows others to believe he is
kind, reasonable, even virtuous, because such assumptions come easily to
them. Malthis does not correct these impressions. He cultivates them. He
takes satisfaction in how readily people trust him, confide in him, and
seek his counsel. Each instance reinforces what he already knows that he
moves through the world above suspicion, not because he deserves it, but
because he understands how to earn it.
His half-elven heritage is not a burden to him, but a tool. Malthis knows
how others see elves and their kin: refined, patient, inclined toward the
Light. He allows those expectations to stand, knowing they work in his
favor. A half-drow would invite caution and scrutiny; a half-elf invites
confidence. He uses this difference deliberately, wearing his lineage as
a mask that others are eager to accept. Their assumptions become their
vulnerability.
Through conversation rather than command, Malthis draws others toward
indulgence. He does not force sin upon them. He encourages it, reframes
it, grants it permission. He speaks of desire as honesty, restraint as
denial, and indulgence as self-knowledge. When people falter, he offers
understanding rather than judgment. When they yield, he offers
affirmation. In doing so, he leads them closer to the teachings of Morius
without ever needing to name the path outright.
Malthis takes pride in this subtlety. He considers open cruelty and blunt
temptation to be the habits of lesser minds. True indulgence, he
believes, is chosen willingly. His vanity is satisfied not by being seen
as evil, but by knowing how thoroughly he deceives those who would recoil
if they understood him. To be welcomed, trusted, and praised while
remaining a willing servant of vice affirms his superiority. He is not
merely a sinner. He is refined in his sin, and he would not trade that
refinement for honesty.
He Takes a Last Name
Added Wed Feb 4 21:23:03 2026 at level 13:
Malthis did not inherit a family name. Raised without parents or lineage,
he grew to understand early that names carry weight whether they are
earned or chosen. When the time came to claim one for himself, he did not
seek something common or inherited, but something deliberate.
In a rarely spoken elven, Malthis found the words Aina and rauko. To
those unfamiliar with the language, it sounded gentle, even reverent, its
syllables flowing softly and pleasantly from the tongue. Spoken aloud, it
carried no harshness and invited no suspicion. To most ears, it suggested
something old, refined, and reassuring.
However, he knew the meaning.
Aina means Holy and Rauko means Demon - it is quite literally Holy Demon.
Malthis chose the name precisely because of the contradiction it
contained. To him, it was not an insult to the Light, but a quiet
inversion of it. Elven ideals of purity, restraint, and reverence had no
place in the world as he understood it. By taking a name that sounded
virtuous while carrying blasphemy beneath its surface, he affirmed both
his vanity and his faith.
Aina'rauko is a reminder he carries willingly: that what comforts others
need not be true, and that holiness and damnation are often separated
only by perception. He wears the name with quiet satisfaction, knowing
that those who hear it are reassured by its sound, while its meaning
belongs only to him, those who speak elven, or those who visit the Great
Library of the Inn.
Blood Tribunal Position - Of Course He is Worthy to Decide
Added Sun Feb 15 14:09:03 2026 at level 40:
Malthis has never struggled with doubt in the way others seem to.
When accusations arise, he does not waver. When conflicting accounts are
offered, he does not feel pulled between them. He listens, he observes,
and he concludes. Where others call this confidence, he recognizes it for
what it is: clarity.
He does not pretend that all judgment is equal. It is not.
Some minds are sharper. Some see more cleanly. Some are simply better
suited to determine truth from performance. Malthis has long understood
that he is among them. It would be false humility to claim otherwise.
This is why the office of Justiciar appeals to him so strongly. To
investigate is not merely to gather facts; it is to decide whose version
of events deserves to stand. It is to declare that one account holds
weight and another does not. That authority - the power to resolve
uncertainty - belongs in steady hands. Malthis trsts his hands.
He knows how people construct their innocence. He has done it himself. He
knows how guilt hides behind civility. He has watched it. He has
encouraged it. Most criminals are not loud; they are careful. They rely
on sympathy. They hope for hesitation.
He does not hesitate. A Justiciar must not crave approval. They must not
be swayed by tone or charm. Malthis is rarely swayed by either, because
he understands how easily they are manufactured. His own reputation for
composure and courtesy only sharpens his discernment. Others lower their
guard around him. They mistake calm for softness. He allows them to.
As for the Provost, leadership demands something different: the shaping
of other Magistrates in ones own image. It requires visible strength,
consistency, and the willingness to remove weakness when it appears.
Malthis would not shrink from that responsibility. He would induct
carefully. He would dismiss without regret. He would expect discipline
because he expects it first of himself.
But the Justiciar's authority speaks to him more deeply. To be the final
word when doubt exists. To weigh a life and mark it accordingly. To
remove a flag placed in error and replace it with certainty.
He believes his judgment superior not out of delusion, but because
experience has confirmed it. Others may question themselves. He does not.
If the Spire requires guidance, he would provide it. If it requires
judgment, he would sharpen it.
He does not seek authority to be admired.
He seeks it because he believes he is the most fit to wield it.
Malthis knows that he would make the best Provost or Justiciar and hopes
to be granted that appointment now that so many seats in the Spire are
empty.
Small Victories and a Longing to Meet
Added Wed Mar 11 21:16:11 2026 at level 51:
Malthis Aina'rauko continues to establish a quiet presence within both
the Spire and the Church of Virtuous Vices and has made quite the name
for himself as a preacher and religious figure. He encounters many from
different backgrounds and tries to draw them towards induldgence or
conversion.
One recent encounter amused him more than most.
A young dwarf named Grummag sought him out, asking for assistance in
acquiring armor. The dwarf carried the unmistakable glow of a golden
aura, and that alone was enough to stir Malthiss curiosity. Rather than
dismiss the request, Malthis agreed to provide the funds. Such generosity
deserved a celebration, he reasoned.
Ale was produced.
They spoke for some time while the dwarf drank. The first bottles
disappeared easily enough, and conversation flowed freely as the dwarfs
voice grew louder and his steps less certain. When the moment arrived
that a more cautious companion might have suggested stopping, Malthis
instead encouraged the opposite.
Another drink. And another. And...another. Another...
For a small purse of gold, the dwarf indulged further still, swallowing
more ale despite the clear signs of excess. The exchange amused Malthis
greatly. Even those who cloak themselves in virtue can be coaxed, with
the right words and the right moment, to indulge what they pretend to
deny.
Malthis recently delivered another sermon within the church, speaking
openly on the blessings of Vanity and Lust. The gathering proved larger
than expected, and by the end of the evening two new souls had openly
embraced the teachings of the Vitiatic Faith. Others lingered afterward,
listening and asking questions.
The bones of the foundation continue to grow. Converts come to the
Church. Malthis has become known as a preacher and religions figure, and
he enjoys it. People jest and call him a Bishop - but he quite likes it.
Meanwhile, his duties within the Spire remain steady. Malthis carries out
the work of a Magistrate with calm consistency, but in his mind the order
of the cities serves a purpose greater than law alone. Where cities are
safe and stable, temptation thrives, and where temtation thrives, the
faithful have work to do.
Recently it was suggested that continued effort may see him raised to the
role of Vindicator, a position he would very much enjoy.
He continues to preach.
He continues to tempt.
And he consistantly returns to the church and stands beneath the smiling
image of the Blind God, waiting for the day he may finally stand before
Morius Himself and receive the blessing he seeks.
Before the Blind God
Added Thu Mar 12 21:16:17 2026 at level 51:
Malthis Aina'rauko has at last stood before Lord Morius.
Drawn suddenly into the gods private study, a place lined with portraits
whose eyes seemed to move in the corners of his vision.
Then Lord Morius revealed Himself.
The Blind God seized Malthis and forced him to face Him. In that moment
Lord Morius made His claim unmistakably clear. Malthis was His, and none
would mistake it again. Pressing His thumb into Malthis's forehead, Lord
Morius burned a mark into the half-elf's flesh, an ashen black dot driven
into skin and blood alike.
Malthis did not resist. He submitted fully beneath the god's touch,
answering as one claimed rather than merely one kneeling.
What followed was not condemnation, but recognition.
Lord Morius spoke to him with approval, praising the sermons Malthis has
given within the Church of Virtuous Vices and the prayers he has raised
beneath the lantern. He called Malthis magnificent, saying that he shines
like a bonfire among mere candles, lighting the world around him with
every word he speaks.
The Blind God declared that by bringing souls to himself through his
sermons, Malthis brings them properly to Him. The masses, He said, were
fortunate to have such a voice among them.
More than that, Lord Morius promised that Malthis would become something
greater than a mere servant. Others might build temples, raise trophies,
or hold feasts in His name, but Malthis himself would become the temple.
When people looked upon him, they would see Lord Morius reflected through
him.
At last the blessing Malthis had sought for so long was granted.
He met his Lord, and it was all he could hope for.
Lord Morius restored his strength, empowered him, and bestowed upon him
the gifts of Proclamation, affirming what had already become clear
through his sermons and preaching. Malthis is not simply one of the
faithful, but a true voice of the Vitiatic Faith.
Before departing, the Blind God gave him a task. Malthis was entrusted
with a copy of the sacred book of the Church and instructed to add to it,
a prayer, a sermon, or another worthy offering of the faith. When this is
done, Lord Morius promised that Malthis would be blessed further still.
When the Blind God finally vanished, Malthis remained within the study
for some time, marked, empowered, and filled with certainty.
He had not simply been noticed.
He had been claimed. He had been praised.
And now, wherever Malthis walks, the faithful will know that Lord Morius
walks there with him.
Opening Souls to Indulgence
Added Fri Mar 20 22:39:38 2026 at level 51:
Malthis has come to understand conversion as an art, and in that art he
takes deep and private pleasure. Some souls open quickly, eager to cast
aside restraint and name their sins for what they are: blessings. Others
require patience. They must be studied, tested, and pressed in the proper
places until the first crack appears. Malthis enjoys that work. There is
satisfaction in learning where a soul is weakest, in discovering which vice
lies nearest its surface, and in giving that buried thing enough warmth and
language that it begins to stir.
He finds especial pleasure in the light races, most of all elves. Their
poise, refinement, and devotion to grace make them particularly rewarding
to work upon. Beneath that composure he knows what waits: pride, curiosity,
lust, envy, rage. The same sacred fires burn in them as in any other, but
they have spent so long pretending otherwise that the moment of recognition
cuts deeper. Malthis enjoys that cut. Refinement makes the cracking
sweeter.
He has no need to hurry. A soul need not kneel the same hour it is touched.
Often the finer work is slow. A sermon lingers. A question returns in the
silence before sleep. A vice once kept at arm's length begins to feel less
foreign. These are not small things. They are openings. Once a soul has been
made to examine itself honestly, even for a moment, it rarely returns
unchanged.
This is why he welcomes doubters, rival priests, mockers, and the curious
into the Church of Virtuous Vices. The moment they begin to listen, they
have already stepped closer than they mean to. Kishano, the elf who came to
dispute the sermon on rage, proved this well. In seeking contradiction, he
instead displayed the very heat he wished to inspect from a distance.
Malthis took quiet satisfaction in that. There is sweetness in watching a
man realize too late that he has become part of the lesson.
He has brought many souls nearer to Lord Morius. Some embrace the truth
quickly. Others merely leave troubled, and that too pleases him. Doubt is a
door. Curiosity is a fracture. A soul that questions whether sin may be
blessing has already begun to open.
Yet patience is not softness. Every soul shines with potential, and he will
seek that potential wherever he finds it. But some will refuse. Such souls
are not beyond use. If they will not join the Church in spirit, they may yet
strengthen it in death, their bones gathered into the foundation beneath the
faithful.
In service to this work, Malthis completed The Litany of Sin, a collection
of prayers offered to Lord Morius in fulfillment of the task laid before
him. He sent it with pride, as proof that his devotion is not passing
performance, but lasting design.
Opening Souls to Indulgence

he wished to examine from a distance. Malthis needed only to let the moment
breathe.
These things are not accidents. A word is placed. A thought is guided. A
soul is given just enough pressure to reveal itself. A dwarf, for the cost of a few
coins, was led willingly into greed and excess, drinking himself past reason
under Malthis's quiet encouragement. A golden-auraed conjurer, certain of her
own virtue, was drawn into frustration so sharp that she abandoned her own
summoned angel to die, and in her desperation turned to a night gaunt, binding
herself to darker means in an attempt to subdue him. Malthis did not force
these things. He simply brought them to the edge and let them step.
He has brought many nearer to Lord Morius. Some step forward openly. Others
simply begin to waver. Doubt is enough. Curiosity is enough. A soul that begins
to question whether sin is truly shameful has already begun to open.
His elevation to Vindicator within the Tribunal has only refined his purpose.
He does not uphold the law because he believes in restraint, but because order
gives shape to indulgence. Cities gather souls together, press them close,
tempt them with wealth, comfort, status, and desire. Without order, there is
only chaos. With order, there is temptation, and with temptation, there
is sin.
He enforces the law so that the stage remains set, so that every vice may find
its proper place and every soul its opportunity to indulge.
Yet not all will open. Some cling to hollow virtue until the end. These
too are not wasted. If they will not join the Church in spirit, they may yet strengthen
it in death, their bones set into the foundation beneath the faithful. Malthis
does not rush this, but neither does he deny its purpose.
In service to his Lord, he completed The Litany of Sin, a collection of

On Devotion, Age, and the Hope of Sainthood
Added Wed May 6 21:58:35 2026 at level 51:
The years have begun to settle more heavily upon Malthis than they once did.
Though his posture remains composed and his voice steady within the
pulpit. There are moments now where age quietly makes itself known. A
slower breath.A lingering ache. The subtle reminder that flesh, no matter
how favored, is temporary. Yet if this truth troubles him, it does so
only because there is still more he wishes to accomplish before his body
finally fails him.
Above all else, he wishes to stand once more in the presence of Lord Morius.
That desire burns within him more fiercely than any fear of death itself.
He still remembers the touch of the Blind God's hand, the ashen mark left upon
his flesh, and the words spoken over him like sacred fire. Bonfire among
candles. Temple made flesh. Apostle. Such blessings are not forgotten. They
have become the center around which the remainder of his life now turns.
Malthis prays often for another audience with his Lord before the end comes.
Not merely to bask in divine presence once more, but to prove himself
worthy of further blessing. Worthy of greater purpose. Worthy, perhaps,
of becoming something more enduring within the Church itself.
A Saint.
The thought pleases him greatly.
To be remembered not simply as preacher or magistrate, but as one whose life
became inseparable from the faith itself. To have his words preserved, his
sermons repeated, his prayers spoken by future generations gathered beneath
the stained glass of the Church of Virtuous Vices. Such things stir his pride
without shame.
And so he continues.
The sermons do not cease. The invitations continue. The soft corruption
of the soul continues. He still watches carefully for cracks within
others, still guides them toward indulgence one careful step at a time. Some come willingly.
Others resist while already beginning to yield. Both bring him
satisfaction.
His elevation to Provost within the Blood Tribunal has only strengthened his
sense that Lord Morius still has purpose for him yet. Civilization thrives
through order, and within civilization every vice finds fertile ground:
gambling halls, flowing drink, crowded markets, gluttonous feasts, vanity,
greed, lust, ambition. A living city is a monument to indulgence. To
preserve it is no contradiction to his faith, but service to it.
Until death finally claims him, Malthis intends to remain exactly what Lord
Morius named him to be:
A flame meant to spread. A guiding light. A temple made flesh.
On the Lie of Selflessness
Added Sat May 16 18:31:21 2026 at level 51:
Another gathering was recently held within the Church of Virtuous Vices
where Malthis Aina'rauko once again stood beneath the stained glass and
addressed the faithful, the curious, and those still uncertain of the
truths Lord Morius places within every soul.
The sermon concerned what Malthis described as one of the most beloved
lies within all of Thera: selflessness.
Speaking from the pulpit beneath the lantern light, he questioned whether
any creature has ever truly acted without desire of some kind. Charity,
sacrifice, mercy, loyalty, protection, and even martyrdom were examined
not as acts free of selfishness, but as indulgences wearing gentler masks.
According to the sermon, the merchant seeks wealth, the ruler authority,
the martyr meaning, and even the charitable indulge the pleasure of feeling
righteous before others.
Malthis spoke openly upon the teachings of Lord Morius, reminding those
gathered that vice is not corruption to be hidden, but sacred truth
waiting to be embraced honestly. Pride, greed, lust, wrath, and vanity were
spoken of not as flaws forced upon mortals, but as revelations exposing the true
nature of the soul beneath hollow restraint and timid denial.
Questions were raised among those gathered regarding whether one may
indulge too greatly in vice. Malthis answered that some souls are indeed consumed
by their indulgences while others are elevated by them, but that consequence
does not make vice evil any more than flame becomes evil for burning the
careless. The lesson, according to him, was not restraint, but honesty.
Particular attention was given to the idea that those who loudly praise
selflessness often do so because they fear honest desire within
themselves.
Once a soul accepts its own hunger openly, he warned, it becomes
difficult to shame, restrain, or control.
The sermon continued long into the evening as questions, discussion,
food, and drink flowed freely beneath the Church lanterns. Before the gathering
concluded, both Tego and Glittepyk openly declared Lord Morius as their
chosen Lord and accepted the teachings of the Vitiatic Faith before those
assembled.
The Church grows. He has lost count of those he has converted.
Malthis himself seemed deeply pleased by this, speaking warmly to the
newly faithful and offering blessings beneath the gaze of the Blind God before
the evening finally drew to its close.
Gold for Sin - A Loan Earned
Added Wed Jun 10 14:58:12 2026 at level 51:
Subject: A Loan Well Earned
Coven the dwarven knight approached Malthis seeking a loan of gold to
armor himself and purchase provisions. Terms were discussed and an
agreement reached, with the dwarf pledging repayment beyond what was
borrowed.
Coin, however, was not the only condition.
In exchange, Coven agreed that he would indulge beyond his usual habits.
Not merely a visit to the taverns of Voralian City, but a proper evening
devoted to excess. The dwarf pledged that he would drink until his senses
were dulled, until memory itself became unreliable, and that he would
make full use of the hospitality and working girls for which the Golden
City offers in nearly every tavern.
Satisfied that both the financial and spiritual portions of the agreement
had been properly understood, Malthis released the funds and wished the
dwarf success in his endeavors.
After all, gold is temporary.
An evening of honest indulgence is a far more lasting investment.
Blessed are the sinners.
Open Hands
Added Tue Jun 16 16:28:40 2026 at level 51:
Today, Malthis finalized plans for a public food and drink initiative to
be carried out through the Blood Tribunal.
The benefits to the Spire are obvious enough.
Citizens who view the Tribunal favorably are more likely to cooperate
with it. A citizen who has spoken with a Magistrate over a loaf of bread
is less likely to see the badge as a distant symbol of authority and more
likely to see it as a source of stability. Goodwill strengthens public
trust. Public trust strengthens civilization. Stronger civilization
creates a stronger Spire.
There are recruitment benefits as well.
A citizen welcomed by the Tribunal today may become a Magistrate
tomorrow.
All of this pleased the Provost.
None of it was the reason.
Malthis sat quietly after the plans were completed and considered the
true purpose of the initiative.
People trust those who feed them.
People trust those who listen.
People trust those who appear kind.
Trust is a marvelous thing.
It opens doors that force never could.
The Apostle has no interest in frightening every soul he encounters. Fear
creates distance. Distance creates silence. Silence leaves temptation
undiscovered.
A soul that trusts him will speak openly.
About desires.
About frustrations.
About ambitions.
About hungers.
And once a soul begins speaking honestly about such things, Lord Morius
is already at work.
The Church does not grow because people are threatened.
It grows because people feel accepted.
A man burdened by guilt hears that his desires need not be hidden.
A woman weary of judgment hears that she need not apologize for wanting
more from life.
A lonely traveler discovers fellowship.
A curious citizen discovers a faith that does not condemn every hunger of
the heart.
The rest often follows naturally.
Malthis smiled at the thought.
The people will see generosity.
The people will see kindness.
The people will see a patient High Priest with open arms and an open
door.
And in time, some of those same people will kneel before Lord Morius
willingly, convinced the decision was entirely their own.
The Blind God has always appreciated the finest forms of temptation.
Blessed are the sinners.
His Final Entry
Added Thu Jun 18 18:13:40 2026 at level 51:
The Blessed Demon's final days were spent much as he had spent the rest
of his life: preaching, guiding, tempting, and teaching.
His affairs were placed in order, his final sermons written, his wealth
distributed, and his favored pet, the werewolf Salehana, provided for.
The Church stood stronger than when he first entered it. The Spire stood
stronger than when he first led it.
Yet his thoughts often returned to a single unfinished work: Cindarious.
An Azure-Touched. A servant of order. A man who, by all appearances,
should have stood beyond temptation. Yet appearances had always been
among the greatest lies in Thera.
Their paths had crossed too late.
Malthis saw potential almost immediately. Over their time together, the
Apostle challenged assumptions, offered opportunities, exposed
hypocrisies, and watched as the Azure-Touched confronted temptations he
once believed himself above.
More than once, Cindarious chose desire over restraint, indulgence over
denial, and personal want over sterile doctrine. Not great sins, not yet,
but enough. Enough to reveal the cracks and prove that beneath every
title, oath, badge, and blessing beats the same mortal heart.
Malthis never succeeded in bringing Cindarious fully into the Church.
Time simply ran out.
Yet the Apostle smiled whenever he considered the matter. The groundwork
had been laid, the questions asked, the temptations accepted, and the
path shown.
Lord Morius was patient.
The finest temptations are rarely accepted immediately. They are
remembered, revisited, and linger quietly in a soul long after the
tempter has departed.
No soul is beyond temptation. No soul is beyond desire. No soul is beyond
Morius.
As Malthis prepared for death, he allowed himself one final indulgence:
hope.
Hope that one day the Azure-Touched would walk willingly through the
doors of the Church.
And hope for himself as well. Not for mercy or forgiveness, but
remembrance. Hope that somewhere within the dominion of Lord Morius there
would remain a place for him: a chamber within the Church, a statue among
the faithful, or a place among the Blind God's servants from which he
might continue to watch and take pride in the work he had done.
Before departing, Malthis left one final gift behind. After sending the
Litany of Sin to his Lord, he commissioned a copy of the Church's sacred
text unlike any other. Bound in elven flesh and inscribed in the blood of
the fallen, it was intended as an offering worthy of the Blind God.
Malthis had hoped to place it into Morius' hands himself.
That opportunity never came.
And so the tome was left within the donation bowl of the Church, waiting
patiently for the day its true owner might claim it.
After all, sermons fade. Scrolls decay. Memories weaken.
But temptation has a remarkable habit of surviving those who first
planted it.
