Description

A massive hat adorns this human male's head. Its bring is what gives it the size and girth and shades his whole body underneath its shade inducing brim. It is made of knitted seaweed, hardened by the sun and the rays of the moon. Underneath this massive, brimmed hat is a face weathered not in time, but in exposure. For he is still a human of quite young age, just something of the elements have gave his face and flesh a time exposed look. He is equipped for long adventures and seems unbothered by whatever elements he is exposed to. His eyes glimmer a sea blue and green, with a shining glint from underneath his covering. While not obvious, on closer look, you do seem to think you see a bit of blood on his weapons.

Role

Tolimon Marback the 3rd, 9th Mate, Sultan War Barge

Added Mon Feb 13 15:13:19 2023 at level 40:
This story doesn't not begin with Marbacal, but his father, Tolimon
Marback the 3rd. An ordinary man, conscripted into the Sultan
navy at a very young age. He was not very good at the whole
sailoring thing. He never strived beyond what he was and was
content and partially inept in that he did not move up the ranks
in the Sultan navy. He stayed a 9th mate for almost his whole
life including when Marbacal was born.

Marbacal grew up in the sailoring world. Heard the stories, drank
the grog (when no one was looking) and absorbed everything there
was about sailoring, ships, and the sea. He was also a very mischievious
individual compared to many on a highly disciplined ship. It was
not uncommon for the elder boy of the family to join the father
on the ships they serve, in part to train them, but also to condition
them to stay with the Navy and serve the Sultan. Hiding the fact
that most of those on the ship were slaves conscripted by Sultan
guards against their will. But as time went on, strange how most
simply accepted their path, their role, and suddenly became loyal
to the enslaver.

Marbacal was always getting into trouble and asking the wrong
questions. At least the wrong questions when it came to a navy
disciplined ship.

"Father, what is another name for pirate treasure?" Marbacal
would ask.

"Why booty my son, why do you ask?" Tolimon, his father would
respond.

This would bring a huge roar of laughter from the gathered
sailors, and every time Tolimon fell into this trap. His son
could not but help to continue to lay these verbal traps.

The Sultan's Barge or the Joke that Docked Marbacal

Added Mon Feb 13 15:14:52 2023 at level 40:
This ended up being the downfall of Tolimon and also Marbacal
as one day the Sultan himself was on the War Barge. As they
carried him to Seantryn Modan to meet with the Empress, the
sailors were all hands on deck. The Sultan walked the deck
inspecting the men when out of nowhere came Marbacal.

"Sultan, why be your ship be called a barge instead of ship?"
Marbacal asked innnocently.

Immediately the Captain of the ship stepped forward in a
threatening way to strike the child, but the Sultan smiled
and held his hand up in a silent command to the Captain to
let this happen. The Captain immediately backed down.

"Why son, it is because this ship is so grand and powerful it
must be a barge, not just a common ship. You are on the greatest
vessel of all time!"

Marbacal smiled innocently then blurted out, "I think its
because you are so RUDE! Because you keep BARGE'IN to
Port!"

The whole deck erupted in laughter, at the Sultan's expense. Then
everyone realizing what they did, very quickly silenced.

The ship's deck froze like a conglaciation had been cast on it.
The smile on the Sultan's face was the only thing to melt
down to a furious frown. Marbacal continued to smile broadly
so proud of what he did. Tolimon stepped forward in front of his
boy to protect him and as he did the Sultan motioned ever so
quickly and the Sultan's elite guard buried a cutlass deep in
Tolimon's gut. The weapon jetted out the back and cut Marbacal
on the face.

The Sultan turned to Marbacal as his father dropped dead in front
of him. "What be a pirate's favorite exercise boy?" the Sultan
smirked out of his mouth.

Marbacal could not do anything but stand in horror.

The Sultan then said, "The plank!" "Take this boy to the plank
and have him walk it to his death!"

Immediately the crew jumped to action, to save their own skin, and
Marbacal was forced to walk the plank to his death in the Open
Sea.

Fishing for Fish and a Marbacal

Added Mon Feb 13 15:15:32 2023 at level 40:
Off of the Arkham shore fishermen set up to catch fish for the day.
Today there was a great storm just off the shore and nothing was
biting. The old fisherman continued to fish regardless, as he had
nothing better to do. No sooner had he almost decided to stop for
the day that his line into the water took a deep dip! He grabbed onto
the pole as quickly as he could and dragged this massive weight
into shore. Thinking it was some kind of massive catfish or grouper
he could not contain his excitement.

Unfortunately as he pulled whatever it was to shore, it ended up
being a human child of no older than thirteen years old. The boy
was barely breathing and had taken a lot of water into his lungs.
The old fisherman pounded the back of the boy and out ejected the
water he had gulped. Once the boy was aware enough to talk the
old fisherman said, "What in hells and waves ye doing out there in
the waters?".

Marbacal could only stammer out a quick response, "Sultan didn't like
my joke."

The old fisherman knew exactly what transpired. A bit of pity and
seeing a free spare set of hands for fishing, he took the boy
under his "wing" and taught him th way of the mariner. The way
of the pirate was already seeped into Marbacal's bones, and thus
his path was set.

Arkham, Piracy, and the Free Life

Added Mon Feb 13 15:16:10 2023 at level 40:
Marbacal took to the teachings like a duck to water, or an aboleth
to slavery, or sahuagin to shark meat. Whatever the analogy, he
learned it quickly and efficiently. As he grew up he did not take
the path of the fisherman, but spent his time waylaying and thieving
on the waters as best he could. He learned piracy in the most simple
way and LOVED it.

He never cared for the coins treasured by many, instead he saw that
there was much more value in treasured objects. Something that was
small could be worth five galleons of gold coins, and he could carry
it. He sought no coins at all, and instead lived off the land and
waters. Learning to love everything that was wild, while coveting
everything that was infamous or legendary. Treasures were his weakness
but in that also, born out of treasures, and hiding them, found
his path in life.

For each treasure he found, he could not carry it all, thus he would
find a way off spot in the lands, make an X, draw up a simple
map, and bury the treasure for later finding. No matter what, when
he returned to the spot, the X was gone, but the treasure was always
there. The Lady of Thar Eris always kept it safe. Every time
She kept his most treasured things safe for him, and out of this
strange mutual respect, Marbacal unknowingly, or knowingly, became
an agent for the Lady. An agent for the Ancients, and an agent
for the war to come.

The Sphere of Storms and the Compass of Marbacal

Added Mon Feb 13 15:17:09 2023 at level 40:
Imagine a compass that points the right direction most of the time. But
when faced with a treasure very near and very valuable, that compass
spins and is unable to find its direction again until this treasure
passes or is owned. Marbacal is like that. Now turning full time to
Piracy, and embracing the names of a pirate (He took the last name
of Barnaclebreath, because Marback was lame and not piratey), he
also has a full blown case of Treasure Finding. For the most part he
can have both desires, the the seas, Thar-Eris, and that, with the
of finding treasure. But sometimes there is an overwhelming desire
when a treasure of such value is found (in someone elses' pockets)
that he may... act... not so nice, to get it, even if it may be
counter to the perfect way he SHOULD act.

This internal Storm spins endlessly within him, and it is this turmoil
that creates and is the chaotic and neutral nature of his soul.
He is unpredictable, dangerous, and sometimes absolutely kind.
But faced with an irreplacable treasure, he can be absolutely
wicked in pursuit of gaining it. Where will this conflict lead?
Will the Storm disapate or will it intensify to the point that
the sails of his ways will change, for the lighter side.... OR
the darker side?

(This is specifically a conflict that may lead Marbacal to the
Evil side of things as his greed possibly takes over and leads
him to more Evil actions in the pursuit of this drive. Feel free
to do as you wish with this information.)
