Description
Mardrin's eyes are alight with passionate fervor. He seems constantly full
of energy with his eyes ever scanning, and a thick hand ever finding his
weapons hilt. Fiery red hair explodes from underneath his head wear and falls
around his grizzled face. His face is framed by a monster beard, one
he clearly takes pride in maintaining, and is full of life and vibrancy. A
magnificent set of bushy, red eyebrows is sternly set above sparkling blue
eyes. His armor is buffed to a mirror shine, and thick muscles ripple in the
spots not covered. He is of average height for a dwarf, but perhaps a little
thicker than most. Though being exceptionally clean for his kind, there is
always a hint of dirt about him, and always more than a hint of ale.

Mardrin's former priorities:
First, Kill mages by own hand.
Second, interview applicants with eye toward inspiration.
Third, inspire members of Neltouda's crew.
Fourth, master skills of warrior guild.
Fifth, raise in titles.
The state of affairs in the Village, and the appointment of Drillmaster has
changed Mardrin's priorities for the time being to:
First, interview applicants, inspire them, build huts.
Second, Raise to hero title in the guild.
Third, kill mages by own hand.
Fourth, inspire members of Neltouda's crew.
Fifth, master skills of warrior guild.
Drillmaster II

Successful only in his escape, Mardrin returns to an empty, decimated
Village. He sighs deeply, angry with the Commander for not doing his job,
angry with Bartis for leaving, angry with the Imperial scum... but mostly
angry with himself, and his failure.
"Take heart, BattleRager," a melodic, timeless voice speaks as the graceful
form of Yean fades into view. Trailing not far behind is Borkhad, a menacing
sneer on the Warlord's face. "Join the Bastion and I in the War Room."
The three talk for a time, drinking beer brewed by Yean herself. The two
immortal Lords of Battle share stories of yore with Mardrin. In part it is to
inspire, and in part to test his knowledge of history and tactics. As the
conversation passes from minutes into hours and the empty beer bottles begin
to form unwieldy piles, the talks turn from stories and casual questions to a
full on interrogation.
"And what Mardin do," says Borkahd menacingly, "about orc attacking Village?"
Then Yean, "Should a Scout have parity as a Berserker?"'
On and on they prod him until finally Yean calls the talks to a halt. With a
satisfied, sublime smile she says, "Mardrin, I give you the charge of;role + rebuilding this Village. Go and make soldiers. Good ones."
"It'll be done. Yer got me promise," Mardrin oaths.
"Very well, Drillmaster." The words are an appointment, and with them Yean
hands over an ancient and powerful weapon that is able to shape itself into
any form on command. "Take this," she says, "you are going to need it."
Drillmaster I
Added Sat Sep 5 11:42:20 2009 at level 41:
"Fuck it," says the small figure, "Me brother is dead, and I've had enough of
battling. I'd rather die than go on like dis." The svirfneblin Drillmasters
words drop like an egg on stone. Sliding his flail into a loop on his belt he
strides off, his head low. Bartis Hammerhand has hammered his last.
Mardrin sighs. Bartis had been a good Drillmaster, and a good friend. For
such a short time in the Village he has seen too few come, and too many go.
He watches, his stormy blue eyes glossy from the verge of tears, as the near
legendary Bartis Hammerhand disappears from view. With a sigh, Mardrin hefts
his maces and turns for the ancient Village of Barbarians.
Known as the Helmsman of the Maiden, Mardrin has gone far in pleasing the
Goddess Neltouda. In such his charge is inspiration... it's primary recipient
the BattleRagers. In present days these are rough seas to sail. Morale among
the few remaining soldiers is low. Even the Swasher of the Maiden, Faeghn,
has lost some of the bounce once in his step. Even for one with such an
indomitable spirit, the breaking of the body can dim even the fires of his
heart.
As Mardrin marches back to the Village he hears the massive giant cry out for
aid. "Imperials at the gates! Ahtieli, Tersia, Talun!"
"Farg," curses the dwarf, and he breaks into a run. The gods still see fit to
protect him from the dread lich Ahtieli (if from only her body, not her
complete lack of personality) but Talund the healer, and Tersia the fire
giant warrior are within his grasp. With Ahtieli to handle the Destructor,
Talund and Tersia will prove difficult foes to conquer.
Still, Mardrin is no stranger to poor odds. His hut is adorned with dozens of
the skulls of fallen foes. The dwarf is a master of nearly every weapon, and
nearly every skill taught in the guild of warriors. He is a specialist of
both maces and flails, and all who have faced him in combat know that even if
they are victorious, a battle with Mardrin will mean heavy wounds to be
nursed for weeks.
Upon arrival Mardrin finds the battle swinging heavily in the favor of the
Imperials. Too few have heeded the call of the giant, and those who have have
been quickly cut down. Bandaging who he can, Mardrin makes for the three at
the tip of the Imperials forces. As he enters the heart of the battle, he
finds the Destructor completed encircled by an army of undead who have risen
from their slumber to answer the necromatic call of Ahtieli. The Destructor
fights bravely, but fights a losing battle.
Despite all his skill and courage, Mardrin too is quickly turned away. The
axework of Tersia is sub-standard to Mardrins eyes, but coupled with the
prayers of Talund proves insurmountable. Quickly bloodied, the dwarf breaks
for the gates of the Village, hoping to get on the river and escape to fight
another day. As he does, the Destructor falls... the bloody head of a
powerless.

So there I am... drinkin me foamy goodness and mindin Nikaulta's shop when a
fergin ELF walks in wantin to see bout havin a dagger made.
"Hello there chap! I would like to commission the forging of a blade."
I can smell the taint o magic on his skinny arse, and I ain't inclined to
have it. Mama always told me a mage never pays their tab. Mama being a
barkeep, oughta know. I reckon barkeeps is the smartest an wisest o folks in
all the lands. Mama certainly would not have me forgin no blades for no elf
mage.
"Why don't yer saunter yer skinny, no-good, fergin elf arse outta 'ere for I
throttle yer!"
That oughta shape him up.
"Excuse me, good sir?" The elf responds. I feel like shovin that "good sir"
up his skinny arse. I mean, I like me coin as much as the next fella, maybe
even more... but mama says there be some lines ya just don't cross. I reckon
sellin to magi is one of em. I ain't inclined to disagree with mama. I'm just
about to start swingin on em when Nikaulta walks in.
"Mardrin! What in da nine hells are ye doin?!"
Uh oh... it don't take no surgeon to know she ain't happy.
"Stop hasslin me customers, apprentice!" Nikaulta hollers at me.
Next thing I know Nikaulta is haulin me off by the back of me shirt toward
mamas. Guess this means I ain't no apprentice of Nikaulta anymore. Well
that's just fine by me, I been thinkin bout joinin the Village anyhow. Why
just take a couple silvers for forgin a dagger fer a mage when ya can lop off
his head, do the world some good, and take his whole damn purse.
