Role

Warfare

Added Mon May 3 08:37:09 2004 at level 36:
Generally in warfare, keeping a cabal intact is best, destroying a
cabal second best;

keeping an army intact is best, destroying an army second best;

keeping an enemy intact is best, destroying an enemy second best;

Therefore, to gain a hundred victories in a hundred battles is not
the highest excellence;

to subjugate the enemy's army without doing battle is the highest
of excellence.

Therefore, the best warfare strategy is to attack the enemy's
plans, next is to attack alliances, next is to attack the army, and
the worst is to attack a walled stronghold.

Laying siege to a stronghold is only done when other options are
not available.

Therefore, one who is skilled in warfare principles subdues the
enemy without doing battle, takes the enemy's walled city
without attacking, and overthrows the enemy quickly, without
protracted warfare.

Aim must be to take All-Under-Heaven intact.

Therefore, weapons will not be blunted, and gains will be intact.

Therefore, there are five factors of knowing who will win:

One who knows when he can fight, and when he cannot fight,
will be victorious;

one who knows how to use both large and small forces will be
victorious;

one who knows how to unite upper and lower ranks in purpose
will be victorious;

one who is prepared and waits for the unprepared will be
victorious;

one whose general is able and is not interfered by the ruler will
be victorious.

Therefore I will say:
One who knows the enemy and knows himself will not be in
danger in a hundred battles.

One who does not know the enemy but knows himself will
sometimes win, sometimes lose.

One who does not know the enemy and does not know himself
will be in danger in every battle.

my credo

Added Thu Apr 29 12:37:02 2004 at level 28:
I, claiming myself to be a Paladin, do hereby swear the
following, not only to my friends, but also, my
enemies.

I hereby swear to put others ahead of myself, to think
before I act, and to give much, much, much more then
I receive.

I hereby swear to look at everyone with an open mind,
and treat them for the person they are, not the person
I want them to be.

I hereby swear to give everyone the benefit of the
doubt, so to speak, and forgive where others would
not.

I hereby swear to live by the Code and treat others,
friend or foe, as I myself would prefer to be treated.

I hereby swear to NEVER cave in to the demons of
jealousy, greed, and anger. I understand that
sometimes, people can say hurtful things, but often
times, say such things out of childish anger, and a
simple talk with the concerned parties can save years
of internal anguish and pain.

I hereby swear to be compassionate, understanding,
fair, and just at all times, even when its nearly
impossible to do so.

A Paladin isn't a destination, it is a journey. It is much
like a workout of the body, only instead of increasing
the strength of your muscles, you increase the
strength of your heart. You must always strive to be
BETTER then the best, and follow the eight virtues.

Compassion.. Love unconditionally, be merciful.

Honesty.. Be honest with yourself and your friends,
even when it hurts.

Valor.. Never fear anything. Be brave and stand up to
the demons which lie inside you.

Humility.. Know you are just a man or woman.. and are
no better then anyone else.

Sacrifice.. Always put your fellow man ahead of
role + yourself. This is the most important virtue, in a way,
since this is the foundation of the Paladin...sacrifice
yourself for others...plain and simple.

Justice.. When something is wrong, right it. NEVER
roll over and die. ALWAYS fight to save what is good
in this world...always believe you CAN make a
difference.

Honor.. Respect those around you, never give into the
rrole + demons of Nefarious deeds. Even a loss can be
considered victory if Honor was upheld at all times.

This, is the Paladin, this, is me.

Good and Evil

Added Mon Apr 26 15:12:50 2004 at level 28:
How can we define what is good and what is evil? Are there universal
indicators behind, within, or consequent upon an action by which one can
determine whether it was a good or an evil act? How can one tell whether
a person is good or evil?

The first group of passages define good and evil by their fruits. A
good person or a good deed bears good fruits; and an evil person
or an evil deed produces evil fruits. From the fruits, the person's
heart and sincerity can be known. Unfortunately sometimes evil
person can use good deed to produce evil fruits but no evil deed
can produce good fruits.

Second are passages which define good and evil by purpose and
intention. Purpose may mean to follow an objective standard. Or,
intention may be known inwardly and intuitively. Defining good and
evil by purpose or intention permits one to know good or evil even
when the result is not visible. But since intention is often hidden, it
may have to be brought to light by testing, as in the final selections.
