Description
The following...."thing" is no normal fela - reminiscent of every
nightmare held by children, the infernal animal before you has been
warped into savagery personified. From its wide maw, the points of finely
tipped fangs protrude, oozing a viscous fluid that drips from the end of
its sharply pointed chin - each exhale spewing a toxic cloud heavy with
the horrifying stench of fetid decay. Bulging eyes like black pools of
darkness fill the bobbing sleek head; their merciless dance beneath a
bony brow and wild tufts of soot-colored hair. A chaotic wave of coarse
dirty hair matted with dry blood and infested with insects completely
covers her muscular form. Primitively hunched over like a stalking
animal, sharpened claws grasp at wickedly spiked weaponry that she
scratches and digs into the ground in anticipation. Arcing lines of black
light flicker about its fore-claws, webbing over its broad hands and
partially up the rippling forearms. Glancing at the armaments
barbarically strapped to the creature, you notice...

A small splash of water strikes the face of an orc berserker, shattering
his fleeting dreams of elves and finally awakens him from his drunken
stupor. Atop a small makeshift raft with three of his subordinates, the
captain of this ragtag vessel staggers to a standing position on the
rocking raft and quickly realizes they're far off course. What was going
to once be a surprise genius assault on the city of Voralia now seems to
be a bit off course, it appears in their pre-combat celebration they had
traveled past their mark. With a swift kick to the chest of the closest
slumbering orc, Hovac roars "Get up! We gunna miss dah fight!" As the
party comes to their senses, their raft approaches a sand less beach
among a series of old trees. Using lingering vines from above to halt
their sea adventure, the four splash into the shallow bank and wade
through to a small clearing which is connected to a fenced encampment.
After some arguing they decide to leave the fortified camp for their own
sake....they see a small figure as it starts down the path. A small fela
carrying a stone basin upon her head, she is walking nonchalantly towards
the river edge, humming a small tune that matches the beat of her step.
Each orc instinctively hides out of plain sight.
Whispering to the three within ear shot, the orc berserker in charge
motions to capture the fela alive. A few disapproving erupt from the
three but Hovac savagely barks to silence the others. "Tremblefist gotta
thing fer fela - alive!" The fela never had a chance.
Destiny

**** Several years have passed ****
The black leather cover shook violently - her cage lurched into a
dangerous sway as it began moving again...and likely headed to the Pit.
Her wounds hadn't fully recovered from her last "match" but her physical
state never affected her ability. A caged animal is a dangerous thing and
her morality and civility had faded away long ago. Deep within every
felar is a connection to the truest form of survival, a cold savagery
that comes only from the untamed. Using the bars as a brace, Mayena
stretched and shook the bugs from her fur coat that had nestled in during
the night. Clawing at the floor to sharpen and clean her claws of flaked
blood, she was ready for whatever she would face as her cage hit the
floor. As the cover was lifted and the cage opened, Mayena growled in
frustration as the sun momentarily blinded her. Lazily crawling out of
the cage, she halted as the chain connected to her collar held her back.
"Release her."
Blinking with disbelief, her "handler" hesitantly unlocked the chain at
her neck and quickly jumped back...he was the third handler after all.
The words came from Tremblefist who towered before the small fela. His
hands wrapped around a bone-claw club, he didn't seem intimidated by the
now free animal. Still stunned and somewhat scared of what would
transpire next, Mayena crouched defensively and hissed.
"Is time for ya to find Him - yuh are free, beast." Tremblefist waved his
club at her, almost as if shooing her away. Mayena hissed again and
defensively swiped at the club. She wanted to speak, demand an
explanation to the riddle, but it had been some time since she remembered
how to talk.
A loud thunderclap echoed above as Tremblefist raised his hand to the
sky. Showing power like never before, lightning began to course through
the forming storm clouds - his desired effect to prod Mayeena away
worked as she scampered her way out of the village. Heading instinctively
down the path she happened upon a felar adventurer returning from Akan.
Stalking like a wildcat, she followed him back to the fortified camp of
Blackclaw. No one recognized her, nor did she know how or care to
communicate with them, but there among the crowds of homeless villagers
stood a strange man in ornate temple vestments waiting for her. With an
open inviting hand full of pemmican, the robed man coerced the savage
fela into the front of the anti-paladin guild where Mayeena was ushered
in quietly. They knew she was coming and something secret about her
purpose but would never tell her...
She was home.
Calling

Tossing and turning savagely in her sleep, Mayeena was once again visited
by a haunting visage while she fought to sleep. The dream was always the
same - two beastly eyes staring at her relentlessly, the blood red globes
glaring incessantly into her soul. Her past trials and tribulations were
always in constant play within her head as the eyes watched. As all
creatures revert into a primal defense under such scrutiny, she groggily
awoke, unrested, to try and escape. As she woke upon the dirt floor, she
lazily stretched while on her back, clawing at the air to shake the pain
that ached in her muscles....but something was different. Her fur was a
sleek grey, not the normal coarse, dirty black....and her paws had
changed, the claws were more retracted...her fingers flattened and short
- with pads in her palms, what was going on! Having slept in a cave under
a waterfall, she crawled towards the water when she caught a glimpse of
herself. No longer a fela, what reflected back was the sight of an
abnormally large wolf - a magnificent beast with emerald eyes and a
frightening maw of sharpened teeth, her savage intellect struggled to
comprehend this foreign experience. She paced frantically in a circle as
she huffed and howled her anger - then she heard a familiar sound.
Breaking the shimmering sheet of the waterfall came Saraba, leading with
his two massive clawed paws. She would never forget them how they once
had raked across her skin, the sensation of pain and blood-pumping fear
as she was once devoured by her animal god. "Are you my sacrifice?"
echoed through her mind as his eyes locked with hers. She froze from her
panicked pacing and lowered her head in submission and defensively turned
her back to the Beast. She tried to speak a response but only the low
growls of the wolf left her mouth. "Now I remember why I tasted your
flesh..." burned into her conscience as he pressed forward into a
threatening position. Howling back with her inherent rage, she vowed to
not be so easily made a meal this time around - the magnitude of volume
from her howl rocked the cave and Saraba stopped his approach. She was
stronger, much stronger....who or what was she.....the approving and yet
mocking response of "Now you remember..." whispered from no source as the
eyes of Saraba turned blood red....the same as her dreams....her vision
was fading as everything around those eyes faded to black....
"Joheem...."
With a blink of an eye and instinctual pounce, Mayeena rose and found
herself in the same cave - and yet the cool metal of her spear and armor
hugged to her body. She was herself again...yet somehow not. She
remembered the sensation, the whispered name from her past - she had no
depth to her knowledge of Joheem but now she knew more. She howled into
the night like the wolf from the dream and the echo rattled through the
forest....
JOHEEEM!
