Description

This tall and lithe arial stands at just under seven feet in height. He has a hooked yellow beak and large black eyes. His limbs are lean and sinewy. His shoulders and waist are narrow, and what can be seen of his body is covered in downy grey feathers. Large black feathered wings stick out of his back. His hands are delicate and covered with feathers so fine that they look like gloves. He has a clean scent and a vigilant countenance.

Role

the Initial Meeting and its Consequences

Added Mon Jul 4 07:29:01 2005 at level 38:
The dreams began on Mazriel's 16th Birthday. He was three years into his
studies at the invoker guild above the clouds. At the time Mazriel burned
with a single minded ambition to become the greatest sorcerer in the city
(Arial City) as well as the city's most wealthy inhabitant. He originally
strove to be admired and respected as well as rich and powerful.

The dreams of torture and suffering continued until one night, on the winter
solstice, a misty visauge of a devil appeared woke Mazriel at midnight. He
had come at the bidding of his clairvoyent superior, whom he did not name. It
had been foreseen in the Hells that Mazriel would age into great power and
his services thus were sought. A bargain was struck and the devil went away.
Mazriel would live and would dedicate himself to finding ways for the devils
to surface once more while his magic and mind were both empowered and
influenced by the devils magic.

Mazriel has since moved to Hamsah Mu'tazz, a city near where the gates of
Hell were once rumored to be open to begin his work and gather personal power
in the Dark Prince's name.

The Scions of Eternal Night - the Road to Power

Added Tue Jul 12 21:35:50 2005 at level 51:
It has been some time since I was last visited by the dreams. Though it is
odd that they would grow less and less as I became more powerful. I thought I
was fulfilling their desires all along. They never did tell me exactly what
they wanted from me. I wasn't to be trusted, I don't think they've abandoned
or forgotten me though.

I've made many enemies as a scion, and they're afraid of me. The fear is even
more intoxicating than the power I draw from the scepter itself. I never have
set down in writing why I joined the chasm. Largely I desired the power, the
powerful make the rules and I definetly look out for my own interests.
Secondly I knew the Scions had some knowledge of interplanner transport. They
must for they summon beings (Ccul'gra) from a plane outside our own. I've
wanted to learn more of the actual process, the intricacies, so I might
better fathom the devil's interest in me. The only tangible goal I can see
from them is entry into our realm, they are devious and delight in slaughter
and torture and I certainly believe they like to truss up humans, arials,
dwarves, and elves far more than they do their kindred.

My time in the chasm has been both rewarding and disappointing. I've gained
much power through the scepter and my manipulation of the others. Offer a
little honey or rather, gold. And you will find willing slaves. It is my
eventual goal to become their Chancellor and lord it over them all. There is
one other who I think may be chosen in my stead. Her name is Raheena and she
is reviled, loathed, and in many ways an outcast among the Fold's membership.
However it is my belief that the Dark Gods favor her ascension and thus I
prepare for her downfall. She is taking a risk, one
that could end her life, I merely need to tip the scales of her mortality,
and I feel my rise to power is assured.

The disappointments that I've found lay largely in what consumes my time on
what feels like a daily basis. I am constantly in combat, always in the
defense of the scepter and and my duty as a scion. It is teadious and allows
little time for the research I must accomplish to ensure my own safety from
the power of the Hells.

There is always another night, another fight, and another hen.

The Road to the Chancellor Seat - A Reflection on Past Success

Added Mon Aug 8 21:59:55 2005 at level 51:
History often has a way of repeating itself. I look back upon the days when I
strove to gain dominance of the Scions in order to gauge how I should
approach my continuing challenge. I've yet to have another vision, but a
recent event has reminded me of the infernal powers that watch me.

I began my previous quest with a clear goal in mind and developed a suitable
strategy. I knew that I would be unable to gain dominion without the support
of those who were then my equals. I spoke then with a honeyed tongue and won
many of them to my cause. Including one who has become my greatest ally and
also my greatest threat. His name is Yagig, a mage of slightly lesser power
than I, but one with a shrewd mind. It was our scheme that in large part saw
me installed as Chancellor and a worthless scapegoat destroyed. I knew from
the instant Raheena told me of her success in plying the lichmaker that it
was my chance to both prove myself as well as cast down someone who could
potentially be my biggest roadblock to the coveted seat. Raheena played the
role well and we destroyed her. After she was destroyed it was only a matter
of time until I was annointed.

With that accomplishment and others behind me, I find the lessons learned
difficult to apply. Deception, destruction, and cunning will not see me to
victory here. For my solution lies in the hands of the dead and the unknown.

Advancing the Chasm & Advancing Myself

Added Tue Aug 9 00:40:06 2005 at level 51:
My goal of understanding the creation and maintenance of planar rifts remains
ellusive. There have been some that I have studied and all futilly. My
greatest hope was to gain knowledge from Zraneksor, the conjurer who created
the portal to the Shadow Plane within the village of Azuremain. The knowledge
to create or merely control the portal of Azuremain has been a prize the
Scions have sought since before my annointment. Through considerable toil,
favorable fortune, and murder we managed to free Zraneksor from his prison.
Despite our best efforts to convince him, he was unwilling to give us
anything but contempt. In the end he had to be destroyed, but I managed to
wrest some power from the portal during the incident. The means that were
used to disrupt the blockage has given me a few ideas as to how I may unblock
any portal from the Hells, though I would not dare attempt it if I were given
the opportunity.

The power I gained in Azuremain is a mixed blessing, as I feel ever more
powerful than ever before but I am also certain that the Overlords of the
Inferno know of it, and I am fearful of what they may manage to do.

There have been other instances for me to study various rifts that form
around mysterious tree-like constructs. I know nothing of them, and my
efforts to convince someone to step through the rifts have been fruitless. My
search for knowledge on that front continues, mostly through my minions in
the chasm who are all so very eager to please me.
