Description
Vibrant, red feathers cover most of this arial's body, with shocks of
tropical blue and electric yellow appearing along the edges of his wings. He
walks with a showman's grace, at times seeming to demand attention. But at
odds with his flamboyant coloring is his clothing: He remains wrapped in drab
garb. His belt seems a little odd -- and it becomes apparent it is some sort
of custom utility belt packed with jiggers, flasks of liquids and powders and
several bartending implements. He bobs his head sharply, his movements at
once jerky and fluid, and he blinks his silvery eyes compulsively and
absent-mindedly rubs his dry tongue along his beak.

CHAPTER THE FIRST: A Vomity of Errors

Each corpse in the abandoned Arial City bar, The Bird Brain, was horrifying
in its own way. One patron had vomited so hard in the throes of death that
his beak cracked.
Another had streaks of blood on her white feathers. A cloud giant had fallen
across a table of arials and squished them, their bird-feet sticking out from
beneath him. In a grotesquely comedic twist, the cloud giant's loin cloth had
fallen aside, revealing an unnaturally erect purple member -- obviously a
strange side-effect of the poison that had killed him.
Near the door, a dark-clad arial stood. "Meko? he called out, angry. Where
the hell are you?
But Meko wasnt there.

There's something you should know about Meko. He is a prodigy, born with a
rare gift, especially among arials. He's a culinary genius, able to detect
and balance flavors in such a delicate manner that he could delight people of
all races, all tastes. Eating a meal or drinking a concoction designed by him
is said to be the equivalent of enjoying an orchestral symphony while getting
a massage from a gorgeous, perfumed whore who really loves you and isn't just
saying that for the money -- she really means it. She teases you, though,
withholding climax. That will have to wait for dessert.
Some of Meko's customers weep after the first bite or sip and can't explain
why.
Word reached the Inn of the Eternal Star, and Olin offered him a menial job
in the kitchen. Olin, who doesn't understand anything more complex than
skunky ale and boar steak, had no business trying to dominate Meko. So Meko
penned an eloquent response:
"Dear Olin,
Thank you for the offer, but I must decline on account of the fact that I
have standards and talent, you narcissistic asshole.
Yours truly,
Meko Chirpsworth"
Meko made a deal with a member of Arial City's criminal element and was able
to open a bar, provided that he launder funds and provide accommodations for
illicit dealings. But Meko's goal was to gain worldwide fame and make Arial
City a destination. For too long, it had been nothing but a place for roving
bands of murderers, who killed guards and prisoners alike, and travelers
looking for cheap flight potions. The impotent emperor sat at the top of his
palace and did nothing for the common man.
Meko wanted to put Arial City on the map.
But things don't always turn out the way we expect.
CHAPTER THE SECOND: To Health!

The Bird Brain became a rowdy place. His regular customers chased off the
connoisseurs he had hoped to attract. They said his food was good, and they
loved the drinks, but they were more interested in getting drunk and high
than tasting the delicate herbal tinctures that tickled the senses.
So, due to demand, Meko was forced to become a drug-dealer. He personally
scouted and discovered intoxicating plants and substances that he could
incorporate into drinks. The taste was not always optimal, but it was never
bad. He learned he was gifted at crafting beverages that gave varying levels
of highs, lows, giggles and panic.
He still despised most of his customers. He created a special bottle of
bourbon -- one that would cause a horrible panicky, vomity death if consumed.
He stashed it under the bar and forgot about it for a while.
Then, one day, a rowdy customer threw a glass and shattered the only bottle
of his best, hand-crafted brandy -- which had notes of vanilla, raisins and a
distant hint of honey-braised green apples and crispy leaves, recalling the
most wonderful autumn day. He had had enough.
Suddenly, he remembered the special bottle of bourbon.
"This one," Meko called out, "is on the house."
Meko lined up a couple dozen glasses on the bar and poured a measure of
bourbon into each one. As his patrons took a glass, he gave an empty-handed
toast: To health!
He perched on the bar and, with no small measure of satisfaction, watched the
macabre show that followed.
He did not pack his bags before he left town.
CHAPTER THE THIRD: Secret Motives

The years have been strange to Meko.
Hes honed his tastes and his talents, finding herbs and other odds and ends
for his concoctions, which he takes great pride in. If not for Olin and his
gimmicks, Meko believes he would undoubtedly be an honored master of the
culinary arts.
But Mekos hatred for his former competitor, the Inn of the Eternal Star has
also crystallized, like the venom at the edges of his blades. Showing up Olin
has become one of the greatest -- and most secret -- motivators in life. He
has set his sights on the Scions of the Eternal Night. He has concocted all
sorts of reasons for doing so, but the most appealing to Meko is that the Inn
of the Eternal Star would most likely be destroyed when the Night comes.
Meko also plans to sabotage certain aspects of the Inns operations to drive
down business, all without attracting attention to himself or revealing his
hatred.
In the mean time, he has gone to great lengths to keep as many people as
possible in the dark about his motivations. Some believe he is a Nexun,
others, a bounty hunter. Others still believe he is a sympathizer to mage
slayers. If knowledge is power, Meko wants no one to truly know him.
CHAPTER THE FOURTH: Scouring the Darkness

Meko has seen his reputation grow, from a minor annoyance to a vomit-inducing
menace of the Eternal Night. And the former bartender and Arial City ruffian
has been able to hold his own, intellectually, in a coven of scholars through
a combination of genuine intelligence and fraud.
He has begun hoarding information in the same way dragons hoard treasure. He
takes in all, but gives back as little as possible - just enough to get by.
All the while, those who consider him friend have no idea he is a foe.
Meko has begun to become interested in the teachings of Reksah - he knows
nothing of Necromancy, but enjoys the Lords valuation of knowledge. He has
been scouring the Underdark for an unholy place He calls home.
