Description
A tall wood-elf stands before you reaching nearly six foot, five inches tall.
His face is chiseled and handsome. His blue eyes sparkle as he takes in the
world around him and his ears seem to perk at the sounds of life about him.
He carries a sword in one hand and a shield in the other. A longbow is
strapped to his back and a dagger is tucked into his belt. The clothes that
cover his armor are mostly browns and greens to blend in with the forest.
His arms are well muscled and his movements are very graceful. His skin is
quite pale but very little shows outside of his clothing.
As you look closer you notice that...

The "Simple" Life

The memory of elves is long and unmatched. That is at least, what many who
dont know better would say. The story I am about to tell you is about a boy
born among elves. In his opinion, the memory of elves is not long enough.
It is a memory forgotten that hounds him so and drives him onward. I take
you now to a time over a hundred years ago, to a verdant forest just east of
a bustling elven city.
It was a time of peace in the halls of King Evermoon. His people had known
no real danger since the great dragon had been locked away in the damp halls
of the lower city. Now and then a person would come in and cause a ruckus,
but his wardens made short work of any such shenanigans. In times of peace
families often grow larger as husbands are able to spend time with their
spouses. A sense of security always helps when speaking of starting a
family. It is among elves though that this sense is even keener as their
memory can think of less happy times. It is with great care and timing that
a wood-elven family would bring a child into the world. It was just so for a
young couple who lived on the edge of Evermoon Glen. They were a woodland
family in the truest sense. The father would use his skills of forestry to
aid the city and provide a somewhat descent living for his wife and he. Two
hundred years after the great dragon was captured the couple decided it was
time to have a child. Their hopes were answered when the young wood-elven
lady told her husband that she was with child. Delight was seen in the eyes
of the male for a long time after that.
After the required number of months had gone by it came to pass that the
couple game birth to a son. They named him Mikaelis. He was a strong young
boy who seemed to have a very great love affair with the world outside of
their meager dwelling. In his formative years he would often be found
playing in the woods near their home. He would chase after animals, sing
songs to the birds, and try to fly like the butterflies. As he continued to
grow older his father taught him a thing or two about forestry and also
introduced him to the uses of the bow and arrow. It was what many in the
aristocracy of the day would call a simple life. It suited Mikaelis just
fine.
To Laugh and Run

A few more years have gone by and now Mikaelis is in his teenage years.
Still very much considered a child by society, but old enough to roam about
on his own. On one of his many adventures into Evermoon Glen he came
stealthily upon a bush that was grunting and snorting. Intrigued by what he
might find Mikaelis crept up to the bush to find a wild boar. As he crept
even closer he made the mistake of stepping on one of the many twigs lying
about the forest. The boar was alarmed by the noise and sped off in the
opposite direction. Seeing the chance for sport Mikaelis sprinted after the
boar with abandon. As he was running and focused on the boar he did not
notice the other two figures that were also sprinting through the woods.
They apparently did not notice Mikaelis either as they all three collided
near the base of a great oak tree. After lying there stunned for a few
moments Mikaelis quickly gathered his strength and stood to assess the
situation. He was a bit angry but as he stood he took in one of the most
beautiful sights he had ever seen. Lying there, apparently knocked out, was
a wood-elven girl of a similar age. She was beautiful. Near her was a young
boy who looked a lot like her in many ways and they both seemed to be wearing
the same ring made to look like a laurel branch. Mikaelis knew nothing of
what this meant, but only knew that he should help them as he was able. He
quickly set about the forest to find the ingredients to make an herbal
solution to revive and heal their eventual headaches.
After gathering the required materials Mikaelis applied the herbal remedies
and waited. Not long passed and the two youngsters began to stir. The girl
looked up and there Mikaelis was, looking into her eyes. The girl wasnt
startled as many might be but she was instead intrigued. The boy just shook
his head and began to yell at Mikaelis for being such a fool. The girl
shushed the boy and told him that they were as much at fault for not seeing
him themselves.Once the boy calmed down they sat for a few moments and
talked. Mikaelis introduced himself and the boy said his name was Jae. The
girl said her name was Ily. Mikaelis smiled at her named and repeated it.
They talked a bit more and after a time Jae turned and told Ily they needed
to get back before father came looking for them. Ily hugged Mikaelis and
said that she would look for him next time as they ran through the forest
near this oak tree. With a wink after saying oak she turned and walked away.
Mikaelis also realized the time and headed home dreaming of his next time
with Ily at the oak tree.
Found Out

Two years have gone by now and there have been many meetings at the oak tree
between Mikaelis and Ily. Initially Jae would come along and the three of
them would play, but as ily became more comfortable with Mikaelis, Jae seemed
to show up less. Mikaelis didnt mind as he didnt pay much attention to
Jae. He always thought that Jae seemed to look down on him and treated him
poorly. He didnt argue or fight with Jae because of Ily, but he had no
desire to be around him without her. During those many meetings Ily began to
sit closer to Mikaelis, and one day she even grabbed his hand as they walked
through the forest. Mikaelis was ecstatic. They spent many afternoons
together teaching one another things. Mikaelis would teach Ily about the
ways of the forest, and she would teach him about the people of Evermoon and
about the Aristocracy. In all of their conversations though Ily never told
Mikaelis her full name, nor did he think to question her about it.
Another year has gone by and Mikaelis and Ily are quite serious about one
another. Mikaelis has even been speaking with his father about what it takes
to have a family and what he needs to do. As they are speaking about the
topic his father doesnt say much other than to caution him to take it slow.
They are, after all, elves and their lives are not short in comparison to
men. He encourages him not to be hasty like humans are. Later that day
Mikaelis meets Ily at the oak tree. When Mikaelis approaches Ily she appears
to be crying and Mikaelis cant seem to get her to tell him why. After many
attempts he gives in and just holds her while she cries. After an hour of
comforting her she finally looks up at him and kisses him on the lips. This
was new for him and he definitely didnt mind. After their kiss Ily just
sighed and put her head against his chest. A few minutes later a few shouts
can be heard in the woods and many wood-elven men armed with shields and
swords have surrounded the oak tree. They force Ily away from Mikaelis and
she starts to cry. He tries to get to her and breaks the nose of the man
holding him, but two other wardens are able to restrain him. At his cries of
pain Ily looks up and pleads with Mikaelis to stop struggling, and mouths the
word sorry to him. At this point the two are hauled away toward the gates of
the city.
Judgment

After a few days in a dank cell Mikaelis is starting to wonder if he will
ever be let out of this place. He has heard the voice of his father outside
of the cell, but was not allowed to see him. He tried yelling out but was
only told to be quiet and that his time would come sooner rather than later.
He sometimes could even hear the bellowing of a great beast somewhere nearby.
He cant tell how long he has been in there as there is no sun to pass the
time, but he surely knows something isnt right and it involved Ily.
He isnt sure what day it is but the door opens and he is thankful. Two
guards stand before it with cuffs prepared to put around his wrists. He
willingly offers his hands and is cuffed. He then follows as the two guards
take him through a number of twisting hallways to a large room. At the end
of that room sits a dais with a throne atop of it. To the left of the throne
is another small throne that sits slightly below that. To the right of the
throne sits another chair with a young man he recognizes, Jae. He realizes
quickly that this must be the King and Queen and off to the right he barely
recognizes Ily. Thoughts whirl about his head, but he cant seem to believe
that she is really Princess Ilythia Evermoon. It is Ily, the girl that he
loves, not some princess. To the left of the room his father and mother sit
on a bench to watch the proceedings. His father is clearly upset but is
smart enough to keep his mouth shut.
Mikaelis is quickly hauled before the King and forced to kneel. As he kneels
before the King the charge of treason against the Throne is read out.
Ilythia cries out to her father that this cant be so. The King is enraged
and looks at Mikaelis and tells him that he is not good enough for his
daughter. He berates him for a fool for reaching above his station and tells
him he will be banished from the Evermoon halls for one hundred years. Jae
just smirks. Mikaelis mother starts to weep and his father looks even
angrier. Mikaelis is then released to his parents and told to forget all
about Ily.
A few days later Mikaelis and his parents are packed and heading out of
Evermoon. As they cross the great bridge Mikaelis father stands up in the
wagon and removes his shoes. He holds them out over the bridge and bangs
them together so that the dust falls on the ground. He then yells out in a
loud voice that the city of his birth has abandoned him and his family and
the ground upon which it is built is cursed. After a few days of travel the
family winds up in the Emerald Forest where his father takes up forestry to
aid the local ranger guild. It is in this guild that Mikaelis will grow and
learn to care of the wilds as his father has, and they will put the dealings
of Evermoon behind them.
A Memory Forgotten
Added Mon Mar 29 19:31:43 2010 at level 38:
One hundred years have passed since Mikaelis was banished from Evermoon.
Within the guild of the rangers in the Emerald Forest he has grown up to
become a man. He has impressed his guildmaster with his skills of archery
and his ability to hunt in the wilds. It is with this proven ability that
his guildmaster encourages him to go out in the world and seek his fate. He
tells him of a place nearby that could use his ability. Mikaelis sets out
for this Silverwood forest that is overrun with goblins. It is there that he
encounters a bandit leader and lays him to rest in the earth. While checking
out the bow that this goblin had he hears a soft crying coming from a nearby
hidden passage. He makes his way through and encounters an elf named
Ailliyana. The elf tells him of the plight of the local forest and bids him
to aid the mother with his skills.
He cannot turn down such a cry for help from the lands he holds so dear to
his heart. He tells her that he will indeed help her and that is when she
tells him what he must do. His first task is to go and see the Princess of
Evermoon! He balks at this but the elf just looks at him with concerned
eyes. He then steels his nerves and tells her he will do it. He makes his
way to his former home in the north and all the while wonders if Ily will
even recognize him. He makes his way past the bridge his father had cursed
and walks the twisted halls of Evermoon. One hundred years is a long time,
even for elves, and it seems that the memory of him has passed. He even
passes a man that looks to be Jae and they do not seem to recognize one
another, but then, Jae never did seem to pay attention to anyone less than
him in his eyes.
Mikaelis continues down the hall and eventually finds the room of the
Princess. He stops outside her door and quickly lowers his cap so she wont
see him very well. He pushes open the door and there she is, as beautiful as
ever. She becomes him to come closer and he averts his eyes. It doesnt
seem like she recognizes him as he tells her about Ailliyana. Instead she
gives him a seed and tells him where to head next. He doesnt let it show
but inside his heart is breaking, and hers is doing the same. For years now
she has been told her love for him can never be, but it has not gone away.
It is because of that love that she pretends to not know him so that he will
not be harmed by her father. All Mikaelis thinks is that she doesnt know
him anymore and inside he is torn apart. He believes her just to be another
trapped soul living in the cities of their enslavement. So with downtrodden
heart he walks out of the city thinking he has been forgotten!
